Network timeout MacBook Pro

So I have a april 2009 13" MacBook Pro. I was using on campus when it automatically disconnects from the campus wifi. The networks appear in the airport scans, but when tried to connect, it just says connection timeout. All other wifi elsewhere work. inputs?

I was having this issue on two macbooks that I have.  One was on Lion 10.7.2 and one Snow leopoard 10.6.3.  Both would not connect to my Airport extreme.  The only thing that worked was deleting key chain from keychain Access and then reseting SMC.  Hope that works for you. Good luck.

  • Create the internet network from MacBook Pro (Aircard) to iPhone and iPad

I would like to create the internet network from MacBook Pro (that used Aircard) to iPhone and iPad. I already turned on the internet sharing, but could not create the internet network. Please let me know how to solve this problem.

Couldn't you attach your iPhone to your computer and upload and add your iPhone Contacts to your iTunes Contacts and then sync the iPhone? Add one unique contact and calendar entry to your computer. You should then get the option to merge.

  • Network my macbook pro

what do i need to network my macbook pro and my I mac G5?

    Hi Edgill,
I have a similar set-up (MBP-G4.) and I have a suggestion. It’s nice to have a wireless connection when using your laptop. Run out and get yourself a wireless router- they’re not expensive- I’m using a Linksys. Set it down by the G5 and keep it wired if you like. Read the manual and/or browse this form for securing the wireless connection (MBP) via WPA, WEP encryption etc…
Once secure, select the G5 for example and open System Prefereces—>Sharing. Turn on personal file sharing and note the name of your G5 computer (above).
Return to your MPB and from the Finder window choose Go--> Connect to server. Type in “ComputerName”.local and connect. It will prompt you for the login name and password and you’re off. The G5 server icon will appear on your desktop and you should now be able to share files from your back patio. Remember to turn off file sharing when not in use.
    Good luck,
    Porgie

  • Operation Timeout MacBook Pro

Has anyone resolved the "Operation Timeout" for MacBook Pros? Airport times out for no apparent reason, and then this "Operation Timeout" message appears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the things you may have already tried - First contact your ISP.  You need to confirm that the issue is not on their end.
Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.

  • New macbook does not "see" my network, old macbook pro and iphones do...

Yesterday I installed an upgrade to my airport extreme base station, now my macbook pro and the 2 iphones in the household see the wifi network but the other macbook does not. It does see the neighbors wifi networks and will see it when I connect via a cable to the base station by no wireless connection... help!

I am having a similar problem. I have 19 iBooks in a classroom and, suddenly, none of them can see the AirPort Express network when they log on. Instead, the iBooks try to connect to a Windows-based school network. I have designated the AEBS network as the only preferred network but the iBooks NEVER try to connect to it first. However, if you click on the AirPort icon in the menu bar, the AEBS network is clearly visible and clicking on it immediately connects you to the AEBS network.
When I originally set up the network in January, everything worked just fine. After the upgrade to AE Firmware 5.7 and various OS X 10.4.5 updates, everything has gone downhill. I had the dropped signal problem that so many have reported. I downgraded to AE Firmware 5.5.1 and followed J. Exby's procedure to upgrade the AEBS framework. That solved the dropped signal problem. But now my iBooks cannot find the AEBS network when they log in.
I have set the AirPort Network Preferences to connect Automatically or to Preferred Networks with the same result. I have also set the option to "Keep looking for recent networks" and it never finds our AEBS network. Yet, the network can be accessed manually through the AirPort icon.
BTW, I use one of the iBooks myself and it works perfectly and finds my preferred network in 2 other locations with non-AEBS networks. But it cannot see its own preferred network in school.
This is really bugging my students--and me! Any suggestions? THANKS!

  • Can I use USB 3.0 to network a MacBook Pro to a Mac mini?

I'm looking for a way to have a very high speed NAS.  USB 3.0 offers the potential for much better performance than 1Gb ethernet.  I've seen a NAS product that has both 1Gb ethernet and a USB 3.0 connection, however it requires a reboot to switch interfaces.
So, I'm considering attaching storage to a Mac mini server, in the hopes that I could use a USB 3.0 crossover cable to connect my MacBook Pro to the mini when docked.  Hopefully, I could then achieve SS USB speeds while docked, but still have slower Wifi access to my storage when undocked.
I'll grant you that 1Gb ethernet when docked is a lot better than Wifi, but I'm trying to remove all the bottle necks here.
I've found a website selling "USB 3.0 Super-Speed A/A Cable Crossover" cables.  However, they specifically claim that there is no OS that supports using USB 3.0 in crossover mode for file transfers.  They sell the cable as an engineering debug and test cable only.
Has anyone gone down this road?
I don't suppose I could create a thunderbolt network instead? Target Disk Mode is not an option.  I don't want my server going offline.

You probably can't use the PB display at all--there are likely just too many differences between the MBP and the PB. One place you can go to check out display compatibility is PowerBook Medic:
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/
You can look up replacement displays for both the PB and the MBP. My guess is that they will be different.
It sounds like the disgruntled someone owes you a paid repair to your Mac.
    Good luck!

  • Hey Everyone - Looking to network my MACBOOK Pro to Windows 7

Can someone give me advice? I have no idea how to begin.
Am using a Windows 7 and am hoping its similar to Vista.
Both Mac and PC are connected to router.
    ROUTER"Wireless
    PRINTER = connected via ETHERNET
    Macbook Pro = Airport
    PC=Ethernet
Need to make them see each other and transfer back and forth - help appreciated as I am in need of this as soon as feasible.
    Thank you so, so much!!!

How do I enable file sharing on the mac?
System Preferences / Sharing. Check the services you want to share.
how would a I.T. person do this?
Are you asking how an IT person would work on the pc side? She/he would fiddle with various settings in the pc's control panels to set up networking. You can do this yourself; you do not have to be an IT person to set up file sharing on a pc (even to a Mac). There are various "wizards" built in to Windows that will set up a network. Bonjour just makes all this much easier.

  • I can't join my wifi network on Macbook Pro

    Hi jimkoz501,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your Wi-Fi connection.
If you've already tried the "Forget this Network" option for your current Wi-Fi network, the next step would be to Reset Network Settings.
This is one of the troubleshooting steps in the article below:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398?viewlocale=en_US
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • IPad won't connect to WiFi network, but macbook pro & iphones will.

Both of my iPhones and my Macbook Pro easily connect to the wi-fi network. I feel like I've tried everything to get my iPad to connect. It used to connect perfectly fine and I'd watch Netflix, but then it started crashing. I work for a non-profit so it's a company network, not my personal one, but it's the only network I have considering I live here! Such a pain!
    I've reset my network settings.
    I've click "Forget Network"
I've done a hard reset of the iPad multiple times.
    NOTHING WORKS.
Can some super tech savvy person help a girl out?! I would greatly appreciate it.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • IPhone connects to wireless network but MacBook pro won't

    All,
I have just relocated to Chicago from London and
my new apartment has wireless Internet through comcast and a linksys wireless router. My iPhone picked up the network straight away and I entered the password and all is good. On the macbook though I completed all the info (802.1x) it picks up the full signal but won't get on the Internet. Am I missing something here ? I wonder whether i need to do something else ? I have tried re booting just can't understand why iPhone works and macbook pro won't
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer
    mark

Welcome to Chicago. Everything should be pretty much plug and play. Power everything down; modem, router, MBP. Then power up the modem, wait 30 seconds; power up the router, wait 30 seconds; power up your MBP. Select your network from the pull down list under the Airport icon. If you haven't set up the router at all it probably says linksys. Put in you password if you set one up. You may need to put a $ sign first. Once connected, check System Preferences>Network>Show: Airport>TCP/IP. You should have an IP address like 198.162.1.10x.

  • Unable to set up wireless network between macbook pro and Pixma MX860 printer/scanner

I am about ready to throw everything out the window. I have followed the advice given in an archived discussion on this forum, but I always get hung up just a few steps from the end when I don't get the window I'm supposed to get.
Supposedly, I'm to link the computer and printer initially with the USB cable, configure it, and then it's supposed to work WITHOUT the USB cable.
I've configured the printer in my MacBook Pro, but I'm supposed to "highlight the access point" (presumably my router) in the IJ printer window, and it isn't there.
I've tried running a LAN cable from my printer to my router. That doesn't work, either.
I'm running Snow Leopard (still a bit afraid of Lion).

I'm not familiar with your printer but from what you have said, can I ask the following questions:
Have you actually been able to print using a cable from from Mac Book Pro to your printer, or is this a new setup?
From my own experience with routers/computers/printers you normally have to pair the router to your printer/computer if connecting wirelessly, this involves pressing one or more buttons on the back of the router, then type in the very long security (WEP) keys printed on the bottom of the router.
Apologies if you're not presented with the same problems as I did, but at least it's a start!
Pairing of laptop computers and printers using wifi using the router is sometimes overlooked - look for the WEP keys/access codes and buttons on the back or underside of the router, write down the numbers and letters, and check out whether any buttons on the router need to be pressed!!!

  • Network between Macbook Pro and PC (windows XP)

    Hello,
I hope to buy a macbook pro, but I have a question. My wife PC's (win Xp) drive the only one printer we have. Can I use the printer server with the macbook
    In French
Je souhaite acheter un Macbook Pro, mais j'ai besoin de savoir si je pourrais imprimer sur la seulr imprimante de la amison qui est en partage sur le PC de ma femme?
    thank you.

Do you mean the printer driver? The software that tells the computer you have a printer? If that's what you mean then the answer is Mac OS X doesn't need you to install any software to use your printer. For most printers, you can just plug in via USB and print. In any case if you can't you can download the Mac version of the driver from the printer's website.

  • Networking a macbook pro and a windows 7 computer

I can access my windows computer from my macbook fine. Sometimes I can access my macbook from Windows computer sometimes I can't. It is always listed there under network but most of the time when I click on the icon i get YOUR-MAC is not accessible, remote procedure call failed. It just happened to me now while I was checking. Clicked it once and it showed all the files and folders I have set up to share on my macbook, click it again and I get remote procedure call failed. For a while it was working OK and then it became intermittent. Now 90% of the time I can't access the macbook. Sometimes if I type in //YOUR-MAC into the explorer address bar that will help. This is nuts, I can seriously access my shared folders and then 2 seconds later hit refresh and I get remote procedure call failed.
    What is going on.
(How come I can't just access the Apple discussions forum? The way this worked getting here was awful. I'd rather actually do a power search through the forum to see if I can find any info than just throw a question out into the ether.)

fixed this by turning off file sharing on my mac and unsharing all my files and folder and then redoing all of that.

  • Trying to network my MacBook Pro to my desktop PC, getting error -36...

Title explains the problem. I can network wirelessly to my Dell laptop fine, but not the desktop. What's going on? Is there some particular setting on the XP desktop that I'm missing?
I've got the firewall turned off, and have tried every input I can think of. Help!

  • How do i connect my printer to my network? Macbook pro, HP photosmart 4780

Until I got a new router (yesterday) I was fine, but now I cannot print wirelessly, and cannot find the place to put my new network name/password.

Hi.. I have the ultimate solution for this:
1- On your small printer screen, go to wireless settings, press on WSP - press "push button"
2- Go to your wireless router panel - by using the IP address of the router (mine is 198.122.3.3), go to "Wireless" and press the WSP Button (two rounded arrows)
    another option:
1- On your small printer screen, go to wireless settings, press on WSP - press "Pin"
2- Go to your wireless router panel, go to "Wireless" and pput the PIN number that you see on the small screen.
