Networking protocol send commands to client

I was wondering how does sending commands to a client work.
What I mean is would I
write a loop (runnable) which will listen from the server for keywords and then perform the the required action on the client side?
I've looking for a bit of explanation of how it would work :)

thank youKeep listetning on a particulat Socket in the client for specific Strings. Imagine the server sends a String "Shutdown". The client has to receive the String and then it can compare it with a set of predefined strings and when it finds a match you can execute whatever command associated with that string.

    I assume you have tried toggling the setting in Firefox between Outlook and, say, Gmail:

    In the search box, type or paste '''mailto''' and pause for the list to filter.
    Change the setting and OK to save it, then return to the dialog, change back, and OK again.
    You also might want to toggle the setting at the OS level between Microsoft Outlook and the native Windows Mail client in a similar fashion. In Windows XP you could use IE's Options dialog, Programs tab, for this, but I'm not sure in Windows 7.
    Since one possibility is a problem in your Firefox settings (including the possibility of interfering add-ons), and another is a problem at the Windows level (e.g., Registry settings), it would be useful to try to identify which one it is. One quick way to distinguish is to create a new Firefox profile. It will start up with all factory settings. You can switch back to your existing profile after testing.

  • Network Protocol Documentation for ARD or ANA?

    Is anyone aware of any documentation on the network protocols used by ARD? I have plenty of docs on RFB/VNC, but Apple is doing something more with ARD than standard RFB. It looks like they are still making some use of Apple Network Assistant (UDP port 3283) protocol and clearly performing other tasks that aren't part of the RFB standards. Could anyone point to any documentation for this?
    I'm trying to develop some utilities that will make working with ARD in a multi-thousand Mac environment a bit more tolerable. I'm not very interested in remote desktop control; this is about asset management and patch management. Once you have more than a couple-thousand Macs in ARD, it seems to slow to a crawl.
    For example, we have a very large number of large (21-bit) subnets, and the ARD scanner takes forever to scan them. I've written a small utility that will scan a subnet in seconds, and provide a text file containing only active computers that are Macs. This output loads into ARD much, much faster. I did this after discovering that a UDP packet sent to port 3283 will cause a Mac to respond with its name, ethernet address, etc. I'm trying to figure out what else is in that response packet, and what more I can do. I'd rather have an ARD API that allows me to add/remove computers into ARD (anyone?) but that appears to be the one area that Apple forgot. I'm still new to the Mac world, so I could have missed any number of things. Pointers would be welcome.

    Ok, I've figured out why I dropped the AppleScript route. The ARD dictionary command to "add" a computer to a list appears to require a computer descriptor for a machine that is already in ARD. So, doesn't look like it can actually add a computer to ARD via that route.
    Regarding import from file:
    I've used the scanner to scan IP addresses from a text file that is the output from my utility. While manual, this does work. I then have to "add" the computers to the "All Computer" list manually, specifying the credentials. This has been my process to date. Better than nothing, but very manually intensive. It also appears that the scanner is limited to scanning only the first 4096 addresses from a text file, we have about 20x that number of Macs.
    I have not tried writing a plist from my utility and importing directly (bypassing the scanner). I'll give that a shot. Assuming this works, it might take one manual step out of the process. Still not sure if I can automate list import any further.
    I'd still like to find some protocol-level documentation so that I can improve the precision of my scanner utility. I'd like to verify my credentials on each system discovered, and verify that the ARD client-upgrade is an authorized task before going to the trouble of adding them into ARD only to find these problems later. So far, a significant percentage of my Macs are still running ARD 2.x and 1.x so the upgrade process is important. On a related note, it doesn't look like the "Upgrade Client" task can be relegated to the local task server. Wonder why...

  • RDS 2012 - Slow Perforamance, random disconnects - The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error (0) in the protocol stream and the client was disconnected.

    We have an RDS environment configured on server 2012 with approx. 20 users connecting for remote app utilization across 4 different locations that are connected via VPN. Server 2012 has great resources from the virtual host so system resource allocation
    shouldn't be an issue. I'm thinking these errors are correlating with the performance problems. Any recommendations on how to effectively end these errors or to boost performance?

    Do you have any progress at the moment?
    Regarding the TLS error code 49, it indicates a valid certificate was received, but when access control was applied, the sender did not proceed with negotiation.

  • How to send command to device via HTTP

    Hy everyone,
    i have installed olite on a number of wince device.
    If i try to send command to the device when connected with the desktop computer on wich the mobile server is installed everything goes well.
    My devices are connected by wifi to the lan of my company and i would like to send command via HTTP.
    I tried to change the settings on the mobile server setting the Network Protocol to HTTP and setting the ip of the device but it does not work.
    Does anyone know how to solve the problem?

    yes the command is queued but anything happens.
    I tried to wait for long time but the command never succeed to execute.
    If i try to send again the command from the Command History windows the command fails.

    seems some issue with IP address in the Destination column as the IP address of the database server machine is 172.16.40.64
    may be this can be creating the problem.
    If it is so, then in which file to change the IP address ?

    As far you are using VirtualBox, your processor capabilities shouldn't counted (min from my own experience while setting up the virtual machine. Change the Domain Type under configuation node to XEN PVM and try again. Most probably the virtual machine will start running.
    One more thing, enable promiscuous mode -> Allow allow with your network configuration (if bridged network is in use) for the VM Server prior you try to SSH into the virtual machine (your guest on VM Server)

  • Sending keystrokes to clients

    I've been using the UNIX command to send keystrokes to client machines to get various things done. Although I'm sure there are more efficient ways of doing this, what would be the correct syntax for using modifier keys, etc? For example, if I want to send a keystroke with "command+Q" or something like that? Thanks.

    To quit a specific app:

    Start an ipad-app initiated from a dock-button (e.g. Skype) and then send commands to the app depending on other input from the dock? All over Apple Accessory Protocol.

    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.

    projector you are referring to have some interface with a PC
    that allows
    you to do these thing via the computer?

  • OO middleware v network protocol API

    I am learning the basics of OO middleware. I am building my way up to developing a 4-tier architecture distributed program for a undergrad class(JDBC, client/server apps using servlets, RMI/JSP)
    I was asked to consider "What is the motivation for using object-oriented middleware in distributed system construction as opposed to programming against a network protocol API?"
    Its been awhile since I had a datacomm class but would you consider this as an appropriate answer...
    OO middleware provide IDL compilers that create client and server stubs to implement session and presentation layers
    I am sure people can write books on this, but am i understanding the question and should i ellobrate from there????

    My $0.02 on the topic is based on the principles of OO and middleware. The motivation for choosing OO middleware over direct network API interfaces is to allow the two to vary. The main goal of middleware is to provide an insulation layer between your code and the code it interacts with. The main goal of OO design is to provide abstract interfaces for data items and development principles. Programming this way allows an almost pluggable approach to development where your another network API can be plugged into your code providing the middle where supports it. for example programming with RMI allows the developer to forget about the transport layer and even interchange different transport layers without chaning the program code. You can change from a jrmp protocol to a CORBA to jrmp over http without touching a single thing in the program logic. Contrast this to programming directly to the network protocol and you'll quickly see the need for major changes as the network API either matures or gets replaced. So middleware provides the buffer layer while OO presents the intracacies of lower level logic as easy to use components.

    Is it possible to send messages through DBMS_PIPE using external JAVA process instead of a pro*C daemon ?

    Yes it is.. as the client will simply use DBMS_PIPE to receive the piped messages.
    DBMS_PIPE can be considered the transport layer. It has a client and server interface. Whether the caller using that interface is a local PL/SQL process, or a remote C/C++ process or Java process, is not relevant. The only criteria is that the caller must be a valid OCI/JDBC client (in other words, it must be able to "+talk+" SQL and PL/SQL to the Oracle instance).

  • "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" changes to false upon closing Firefox

    I've tried to troubleshoot why I can't get gmail to work as Firefox's email mailto app for quite a while now. A while ago I stumbled on this solution: I changed the "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" string to true and it worked perfectly. However, now whenever I close my browser, the string returns to "false"--every time--so whenever I click on a mailto link and untitled blank page pops up instead of an email handler. Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and have Firefox 3.3.6 installed.

    I assume you have tried toggling the setting in Firefox between Outlook and, say, Gmail:

    Change the setting and OK to save it, then return to the dialog, change back, and OK again.
    You also might want to toggle the setting at the OS level between Microsoft Outlook and the native Windows Mail client in a similar fashion. In Windows XP you could use IE's Options dialog, Programs tab, for this, but I'm not sure in Windows 7.
    Since one possibility is a problem in your Firefox settings (including the possibility of interfering add-ons), and another is a problem at the Windows level (e.g., Registry settings), it would be useful to try to identify which one it is. One quick way to distinguish is to create a new Firefox profile. It will start up with all factory settings. You can switch back to your existing profile after testing.

  • Cant login multiple network accounts on the same client?

    Setup:
    I have created a simple Lion Server on a new i7 Mac Mini. I have configured Open Directory in Master mode and have setup 4 user accounts. I have enabled the File Sharing service and checked the "Make available for home directories" option on the "Users" file share. I have configured each of the 4 user accounts to use this location as the home folder. I have connected my client machines (all OSX Lion) to the Network Account Server.
    Problem:
    I can log one user into the client machine, but when using "Fast User Switching" and logging on as the second user I get the following error:
    "You are unable to log in to the user account "guestaccount" at this time. Loggin to the account failed because an error occured"
    In the console if I search for that user account the related error message is:

    Any thoughts as to why the Home Folder "mounter" failed in this scenario?

    Historically you have never been allowed to use Fast User Switching to log in multiple network logins on the same client machine. This certainly applied with Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard. I have not yet personally tried this with Lion.
    I believe that the underlying reason for this not being allowed is down to how AFP volumes are mounted. The AFP mount becomes 'owned' by the user that triggers the login. With a network login the first user becomes the owner and this means subsequent attempted network logins are denied access to that share and hence cannot access their home directories.
    With Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard servers, one could configure network home directories to be shared via NFS instead of AFP. NFS gets treated a lot different in terms of mounting, and is done more at a system level than a user level. While again I have not personally tried Fast User Switching with NFS shared home directories, this approach is specifically recommended by the authors of AquaConnect (a Macintosh Terminal Server solution) in order to allow multiple logins on the same Terminal Server. This seems to be for the same underlying reason. Using NFS does certainly work for use with AquaConnect and also works for the competing iRAPP Terminal Server product as well.
    Unfortunately, Lion Server while it can be made to run an NFS server, will not let you configure using NFS for sharing home directories. I have actually reported this as a 'bug' in Lion server.
    Neither the authors of AquaConnect or iRAPP have actually tested this scenario with Lion server yet, but AquaConnect do plan to investigate it. It could make it considerably more difficult to use their products.
    So in summary, using NFS to share network home directories in theory would avoid the problem and can be done with a Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard server, but cannot be done with a Lion server. It is possible however to mix Lion with older server versions. This might for some people be a possible workaround.
    PS. A bonus side-effect of using NFS shared home directories was that this allowed badly written software like Adobe's applications which are otherwise notorious for having major issues with network logins and home directories to work without errors. As an example Adobe Acrobat Pro introduced a bug in version 7.0 which prevented it being able to print-to-PDF (one of the major reasons to buy Acrobat Pro). It tooks two years for them to eventually fix this in Acrobat Pro 8.1 (I know because I spent that two years nagging them to fix it and was a beta tester). Unfortunately they then reintroduced the bug in Acrobat Pro 9.0. Fortunately I discovered this side-effect got round the issue although a clunkier workaround was also possible for Snow Leopard clients by redirecting certain folder paths.
