Networking with CLDC devices

Hi,
I need a bit of help with converting the program below to CLDC. Essentially, I'll blush if you could suggest a way to do; InetAddress.getLocalHost(); getHostName(); InetAddress.getByName
Thanks
import java.net.*;
class TranslateAddress_App1
public static void main (String args[])
// Look for command line argument
if( args.length != 1){
System.out.println("Error! No IP or Host name");
System.out.println(
"Usage: java TranslateAddress www.ibm.com");
System.out.println(
" or java TranslateAddress 192.168.1.1");
System.exit(0);
try
// When the argument passed is:
// a web URL (e.g. ibm.com), the IP address is
// returned a IP addresss, only the IP address is
// returned.
InetAddress address =
InetAddress.getByName(args[0]);
System.out.println(
"Address " + args[0] + " = " + address);
// To get the hostname when passed an IP address use
// getHostName(), which will return the host name
// string.
System.out.println("Name of " + args[0] + " = " +
address.getHostName());
catch (UnknownHostException e)
System.out.println("Unable to translate address.");

There is no spec'ed way to do this on CLDC. Some vendors may offer OEM specific packages to address this but I haven't seen any. The Generic Connection Framework was designed not to require a TCP/IP stack to perform HTTP and therefore does not require InetAddress type functionality.

  • Connection to wi-fi network with apple devices is highly unstable

    About a year ago I bought a 1TB time capsule that I use to create a wi-fi network at home. At wi-fi network I connected with no problem my Imac and Iphone 3g up to 20 days ago. Since then the connection to network has become unstable, I can not always connected with both utilities, especially with the iPhone that any attempt to link it to network indicates "can not access the network". Without change anything, sometime We can connect to network without any problem for some hours, sometime for some minuts/seconds. I tried several times to reset the configuration of the time capsule, also with qualified personnel apple but I have not solved anything. Today the connection to wi-fi network at home with apple devices is highly unstable.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply but as mentioned in my post, I've checked if drivers needed updating and it says the latest driver is already installed and updated for this device (network adapter).  I double checked through the HP Drivers & Download page and scan for updates for out of date and missing drivers and software and it seems to scan to about 17% then I'm taken to another page with a link that goes back to software & driver downloads page so I click 'next' to confirm my operating system which then shows a long list of things to download and being that I know very little about computers, I don't know what I'm meant to be downloading or not?  Everything?  There's a total of 31 possible downloads listed (under their respective headings).
    Have just rung the store that sold us this notebook a week ago and they are going to replace it as they've said it sounds like a faulty network card.  Whew.  I'm still a little confused though as to which of the downloads from HP's list I'm meant to download (assuming I'll see a similar list when we get the replacement computer) so if anyone can help me out with that, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks.

  • How do you properly set up a home network with multiple devices?  I have a macbook pro, an iMac, and several other phones, tablets, roku devices, etc.  Everything works properly except for when I try to access the other computer through the network.

    I have an iMac and a macbook pro that I used to be able to share files between but ever since I moved 3 months ago I can't get it to work.  Also, now my phone and my wife's phone are inseparably connected.  She seems to be getting all of my text messages but I don't get hers.  We also bought new computers right before we moved so that might have something to do with it.  Both computers are on my account and have my name.  Thanks in advance, it would be nice to get this working again - tired of walking ten feet with a flash drive to share files  : )

  • Our home network has multiple devices connected by iCloud. Having problem with Calendar. On one iMac, all the events are duplicated. How can I correct that problem? Under the Calendar accounts, I had my Apple id listed and also just iCloud.

    Our home network has multiple devices connected by iCloud: 2 iMacs, 2 iPhone 4s, 1 MacPro Laptop, and 1 iPad 2.  When using Calendar, all the events were
    duplicated on my husbands iMac.  On his computer, under Calendar accounts, I had included iCloud and also my iCloud ID.  I thought that because I had two accounts listed that were connected to iCloud, that might be the cause of the duplication.  When I deleted ithe calendars from one of the accounts, it resulted
    in deleting all of the events on all of our network devices!
    I have since entered some new events into Calendar from my iMac and from my iPhone.  These appear correctly on all devices except my husband's iMac where they are again all duplicated.
    I have two questions: 1)  How can I eliminate the duplicated events on my husband's computer and 2) How do I retrieve the old wiped out Calendar events from
    Time Capsule.  I don't know how to find Calendar in the Time Capsule.  If I find the Calendar information in Time Capsule, how do I transfer it to my current Calendars?
    I was obtaining phone help from one of the Apple techs at Apple Support, but our call was disconnected part way through.  Didn't know how to reconnect with the tech.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Can see and recognize my wireless network and Internet is working, but I can't connect with ANY computers/iPad/iPod/air TV, etc. I have reset the time machine several times, and can see the network, but cannot access it with any device. PLEASE HELP!

    I have Comcast Internet and have it connected to a Motorla Surfboard modem and have that running directly to a 2TB Time Capsule. The TC is serving as our time machine as well as our wireless router. We lost power in a storm a week ago and can no longer connect to my wireless network I can see the network and sign into it via password, but cannot connect with any device(iMac, MacBook, iPhones, iPod touches, air tv, etc.). ALL of these devices worked gat before the power went out. I reset both modem and TC and still can't connect. I can connect to the Internet through Ethernet cord directly from the modems dn have confirmation(per Comcast service) that the Internet is working and we have a good connection.
    The TC is less than six months old so I'm not sure what is wrong. I have reset settings with TC to no avail. I have reset the TC SEVERAL times and have no idea what could be wrong and what is prohibiting me from connecting. Anyone that has ANY suggestions or ideas as to how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!!  I'm going crazy using iPad 3G and not being able to connect to our wifi. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY!

    Anyone have any ideas or information to help with this?  Any help and consideration is MUCH appreciated.

  • TS2755 Cannot connect my I-Pad 1 to Comcast modem network with correct password. Other devices work fine.

    I cannot connect my Ipad to a Comcast modem network with the correct password. Other devices work fine.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

    I'm suddenly unable to join my Airport network with my PowerBook G4.  I am able to access my network with all of my other devices.  How can I once again establish access using my PowerBook G4?

    Bruce777 solved this for me, thank you Bruce! My printer now works perfectly on my new wifi network!
    Bruce's  instructions, for anyone else having the same issue:
    - delete any previously set up printers
    - scrub old hp software and update software to get the hp 2.8 drivers
    - remove the usb cable from the printer if you have one connected
    - reset the printer network to hpsetup (hold down the power button and press network button 2x and then cancel 3x, release power button.)
    - print out the wireless network test report (hold down the network button and press the update button 2x). verify the network name / ssid is hsetup
    - got to sys prefs > network and change the mac wireless network to hpsetup
    - go to the sys pref > print scan
    - add the HP 8000 printer
    - click on the options and supplies button and click on the Show Printer Webpage
    - click on the networking tab > wireless in the left pane > start network wizard and change the network from hpsetup to your network
    - finish (this page may freeze up.  close the browser)
    - go back to the sys prefs and change the wireless network back to your networt
    - go to the printer and print out the wireless network test report (press network button and update button 2x).  Check that the SSID is your network
    - go to sys prefs > print scan > select your printer > options & supplies > show printer webpage > network info (check ssid and compare to wireless network test report)
    - try printing something to your printer.  It might take a little time the first print.

    Replace the Time Capsule with one that has a larger hard drive. Or erase the one you have and start a new set of backups or backup one of the computers to a different backup drive.

    I have a new iPhone 4s.  I have a home wi-fi network using Cisco Linksys2000 router with all settings per this article - phone will not see network if set to 5 GHz channel width - solution??  2.4 works but is not optimal with other devices in home (computers; tivo).  Have others seen this?  Any advice is much appreciated.

    Stephen Spark is right - your best alternative is to use a simultaneous dual band wireless router like the AirPort Extreme. Your Cisco Linksys2000 is not a dual band router, meaning that it will be constrained to operate at the slowest speed of all the devices on your network.
    The AirPort Extreme's dual networks will support all your 802.11n devices as well as all your 802.11b/g devices on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies simultaneously.

  • Help! Why does my HP 1536dnf Printer appear in my network with a strange device name?

    I own a HP Laserjet 1536dnf All-in-One Printer.
    I notice that with the default settings, my printer is appearing in my network under the device name that seems to be some randomly generated name like NPICG042G that makes no sense to me.
    I know that I can change the name in the device page, but I like to know how did this name come about in the first place??
    When I reset the printer and redo the setup, the SAME device name appears as if this is some fixed preset.
    Can someone explain this to me?
    Also, if I change the name, do I need to reinstall all the drivers for each computer on the network OR change the name of the printer MANUALLY to the new name on each computer on the network?
    Please help.

    Same probleme here on a HP Officejet 8500. Same question also under the post "How do i change my printer's name in the Mac OS X Finder?"

  • Network is created with extreme, devices dont see expresses

    Hello everyone, i will try to explain my dilemma as clearly as possible.
    Recently we recived the 2WIRE u-verse ATT router, which is terrible on giving a wireless signal.
    So i decided to buy an airport extreme, and 2 expresses.
    I disabled the wireless of the 2Wire router,
    Then set up the network with the Extreme,
    and placed the expresses in the room that has terrible signal.
    (other rooms do not have any ethernet ports, but do have the phone line things on the walls)
    The issue that i am having is those two other rooms.
    The room with the Aiport Extreme is fantastic, and runs smoothly.
    And yet my iPhone and iPads, cant receive a signal, the computer can but its so slow. And yet the Expresses are in those rooms.
    The Expresses are set to extend the range, and the signal to the extreme is "excellent"
    The ony information i could find to resolve this is to buy a powerline adapter, is that the only way?
    If so/If not, how do they work?
    I did every confiquration possible, very rarely the connection would be great, but dead again the next day.

    Without knowing the exact layout of your home, it may be possible that both of the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Stations (AXn) may be just outside of the useful signal range coming from the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) to successfully extend it.
    One way to find out, is to make Signal-to-Noise (SNR) measurements at the locations where the AXns are placed to see if the signal quality is sufficient enough.
    SNR (in dB) = Signal (in dBm) - Noise (in dBm)
    For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
    SNR Guideline
    40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
    If you have a Mac laptop handy, I suggest downloading a copy of iStumbler. You will use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to capture the Signal & Noise values.  Be sure to power-off each AXn as you only want to measure the SNR of the AEBSn. Start with your laptop near the AEBSn, note the readings, and then, take the same measurements at each of the locations where the AXns are placed.
    The SNR, as measured from the laptop, decreases as the range to the base station increases because of applicable free space loss. Also an increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
    If the SNR is 25dB+ at each of these locations, then you should be getting reasonable signal quality from the AEBSn at all of these locationst. If less, either try to locate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating either of the AXns until they are within a 25dB SNR range.
    If, after relocating the AXns, you still do not get a high enough SNR, then you may want to consider employing Powerline adapters.

  • E5: Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device...

    I am trying to update the software on my E5 using OVI suite but I keep getting an error during the install phase (after backup). The following error and instructions are displayed in the OVI suite window but makes no difference when I follow these instructions (just end up back with the same error).
    "Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device. Follow these steps to help reconnect your device:
    1. Remove USB cable from your device.
    2. Restart the device (turn off and on again).
    3. Re-insert the USB cable.
    4. Click 'Ok' below to continue updating."
    Current E5 software version is 042.007.
    I am trying to update to E5 software v. 043.115
    Any ideas?

    Yep having the same issue. Just got a replacement handset due to the random restarting issue, soon after setting up the new handset I get a message on phone saying software update is available. Both OVI suite and Nokia software updater say version 43.115 is available (about 200mb in size), I currently have the same version as you 42.007. It claims to do a lot of improvements to the handset. The update downloads fine but when it comes to installing I keep getting the same issue. Phone simply will not restart automatically and the update restarts then fails at the same point over and over. Had the same problem with my previous handset.
    I spoke with my network provider to see if it was an issue with the handset needing firmware specific to them but they said no it is an issue with the firmware itself and has been happening to everyone since its release!!! They said I should not download it until Nokia has resolved the issues with it. But how do I know when that will happen as I cannot find anything put out by Nokia stating there is an issue or anywhere on web forums saying there is actually a problem.

    Hi
    I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?
    I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
    Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
    Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

    Hi..
    Restart your router then restart the iPhone to test.

  • Setting up network with newer and older AirPort Extremes

    Okay, I thought this was going to be so simple. I have a newer (like a year old - square) Airport Extreme that I have three computers wirelessly hooked up to in the house. Great... so now, I want to hook up the old iMac in my son's room that doesn't have a wireless card to the network. It is too far away to use the ethernet cable into the back of my newer Airport Extreme station so I figured I'd dust off the old saucer type base station, plug the ethernet cable into that in my son's room and then just easily get the old base station to network with the newer one wirelessly.
    Not so easy. The newer one has no reference how to make a network with other base stations whatsoever and the old book describes how to with the Airport Admin Utility which is not available to the newer version, just Airport Utility and it does not have the WDA options listed. I tried to extend the network and then Doh! The whole network disappeared.
    Is this a compatibility issue with the older and newer base stations? Would it just be easier to put in a wireless card to my very old iMac, if that's even possible? Has anyone successfully networked an old and new base station together? If so how?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
    When you have an older "g" device (the flying saucer) and a newer "n" device (the square one) in order for them to communicate using wireless only, you must configure both of them in what is known as WDS configuration.
    This is a quite tricky setup for most users. The best set of instructions that I've seen for this comes from expert user Tesserax in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2355832&tstart=0
    If you elect to try this type of setup, you will probably need to hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box to get the WDS option to appear. (My guess here is that Apple "hides" it because it slows down the network substantially). But, it's the only way to do what you want to accomplish with and old and new device.
    Other options would include the wireless card you mentioned for the iMac. Even better might be a pair of ethernet powerline adapters. One adapter goes near the AirPort Extreme and the other near the iMac. The AC wiring in your home transmits the ethernet signal of the powerline. Works great, almost no configuration required and better than wireless in many cases.
