New account wizard hangs

Question

I recently installed 10.6 on my Macbook. I've been trying to set up a new account with Mail. When I launch the program I get the new account wizard. I enter my email address and password, and then the wizard hangs up as it's "searching for mail servers for the specified email address". I've tried to bypass the wizard, but if I cancel out of it, then the program quits. I've tried deleting the prefs without success. Is there any way to bypass the wizard without quitting the program? Thanks.

To get a better picture of what its hanging on, get a stack dump when it freezes ('kill -3' or
'ctrl-brk')

When "password" is correct all works fine. When "password" is wrong, new InitialDirContext(env)
hangs.
If we run the same code on a Win 2000 machine (jdk1.3, WLS 5.1 SP8, LDAP Netscape
on the HP-UX 11 machine) , it works fine.
