New admin settings

I have set up my two daughters on my MBP, Mountain Lion
I have given them both Admin settings when I entered them.
When I log either of them in, the aplications folder isnt showing, I cannot right click an app on the dock and remove an app from the dock.
when I open up safari, I can not right click to customise the toolbar.
I have restarted the MBP, I wave selected the MBP to default to start on my account, and then choose logoff and log on to the other two accounts.
Thanks for any help

    I suggest you create a backup administrator id on the system that you are changing!!!

    This procedure seems correct as far as to go. The author assumes that the GUID and UID are the same. You need to verify this.

    I am not sure this procedure is what you need.
    I'm not clear on what to rename though. Do I want to rename the new administrator account with the old user name or rename the old user name with the new admin name?
    There seems to be two ways to proceed.
    Assigned your old administrator data to your new administrator. To do this, you would rename your new administrator directory to something else then rename your old administrator directory to what ever you selected for the new administrator directory name. You would then verify the Group ID and the user ID.
    Or, renamed your old administrator directory. Create a new administrator with the same names as your old administrator was. You can either follow the steps above or copy the data from the old directory to the new with the Finder. Hold down the option key in the Finder to be sure that you are copying the data.
    Mac OS X: How to change user short name or home directory name
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106824
    This is tricky stuff.
    You need to change these things:
    1) Your account information
    2) All of your files & folders
    One way to change what uid and gid are defined for your account is theNetInfo Manager application. This doesn't change the UID & GID on your files and folders.
    Mac OS X ... harddrive -> Applications -> Utilities -> NetInfo Manager
    In the middle column is the function. Pick users then select your user. Click on the lock at the bottom of the panel. Go into the property list and change UID and GID."
    sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464 {} \;
    sudo find -x / -group 20 -exec chgrp 211 {} \;
    #combined change of uid & gid
    sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464:211 {} \;
    There are two generally used schemes for assigning a group to a user:
    1) Assign all users to a common group like staff.
    2) Assign each user to their own group. A user like test would be in group test.
    Mac OS uses method 1 in 10.2 and method 2 in 10.4.
    You should not have multiple users assigned to the same uid. My worry is that if you are only change in the 50x range, you could run into a conflict.
    Your best bet is to change to a high number like 5464 on all of your accounts.
    On Mac OS, there are a few files that have the old uid as part of their names. The .Trashes file will be on your removal media and maybe everywhere.
    /.Trashes/501
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.501
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.sbdl.501
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.user501pictureCache.tiff
    Here are some terminal commands:
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    cd /Applications
    Your current user is:
    echo $USER
    Let's assume myuser
    To find out your UID and GID do:
    cd ~
    ls -ln
    ls -l
    Or, you can use the id command.
    id
    compare the output and write down what you find.
    You best use the numeric value for your userid. In this case it is 500. To list all the files owned by a userid do:
    sudo find / -user 500 -exec ls {} \;
    #And you need to do this from an administrator id.
    /* adding a -x before the / limits the search to the current file system. *
    # To stop the display press control-c
    sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464 {} \;
    #And you need to do this from an administrator id.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • Extreme is going back, new admin utility is flawed

    This is long, but bottom line is my advice is to wait until Apple gets things ironed out unless you have a system without multiple devices.
    - Multiple USB drives hooked to a PC running iTunes with a wireless G card
    - A macbook
    - One Airport Express serving as a router and a USB print server
    - 3 other AEs that I stream audio to from the PC or the macbook to 3 different stereos
    - A PC laptop I sometimes use with iTunes
    - A Palm that I use to control iTunes with a VPN
    - A network printer that my PCs talked to via Ethernet and the macbook wirelessly through the express router via the USB port.
    Everything shares the internet through the Express router and can stream to the other Expresses.
    The macbook is used by my wife and shares the iTunes library hooked to the PC. I wanted the new extreme because I could hook the hard drives to it so she wouldn’t have to go through the hassle of sharing my library and I wouldn’t have to leave the PC running when I travel. She’s not very computer savvy. I thought the wireless N would be good for future updates.
    The extreme comes with a new admin utility you have to use. I configured it and it looked to work but couldn’t see any of the expresses. I reset an express and configured it and iTunes could see the express and it would stream music to it but now the admin couldn’t see either the extreme or the express. It could configure another express after I reset it but iTunes couldn’t use it because the admin utility couldn’t see the IP address of the router and assigned a bad address to the express. I could manually assign an IP address and iTunes could see it.
    After a few hours on the phone with Apple (they first tried to tell me I didn’t qualify for support because my extreme wasn’t in their system even though I bought it direct, so I had to bully them to help me) it worked, sort of.
    Each time I configured an express or changed a setting on the extreme it would screw up the security settings for the extreme so my computers couldn’t see it even though the green light was on. Every time I changed anything and updated I had to delete all keychain settings and reset the passwords. Then
    -I kept getting dropouts with iTunes when I never had them with before
    -nothing could print,
    -the extreme wouldn’t let the Palm join the network
    I went back to my original setup using an express as a router, but now it couldn’t see the other expresses and when I tried to reset them even the old admin kept giving them invalid IP addresses. It didn't even work if I assigned the IP address manually. I reloaded the old software that came with the AE and reconfigured and now everything works.
    What a disaster. I will be returning the Extreme ASAP.

    I bought a new Airport Extreme n and have been unable to set up an Airport Express to extend the network.
    Streaming with AirTunes is no problem, but extending the network has been exasperating and impossible.
    I exchanged the Airport Extreme n for a new one, factory re-set everything countless times and no luck.
    I think that some of the advice for this problem in these forums is coming from people who have not got the hardware concerned and so they are making assumptions based on Apple's reputation.
    For example, some are referring to Apple documents which relate to legacy Extreme products and not the n.
    I have trawled through every post and Apple document and manual without success.
    My own conclusion is that the new AirPort Utility programme does not work properly and/or there is a generic fault in Extreme n's.
    A clue here is that Apple's latest documentation says to set up the extended network manually, so that says a lot for their auto set up wizard!
    If anyone out there has successfully got an Express to extend their Extreme n network then please tell me how you did it.
    Meanwhile I think Apple should suspend their series of Microsoft batering advertisements until their hard/software works.
    I stand ready to be corrected and will be delighted to hear if anyone has been luckier than me.
    I hope this thread is not marked closed before it finds an answer.

  • How do I get a new AdMin User to have same desktop with all apps?, How do I get a new AdMin User to have same desktop with all apps?

    I recently switched from a MacBook Air to MacBook Pro.  When I transferred my Adobe Creative Cloud account to the MBP, I started having "User Privileges" problems with Photoshop. Adobe Support suggested I create a new AdMin User.  I did that, but when I logged on as the new AdMin User, all of my settings were off.  None of my apps were in the Dock; none of my apps were in the control bar.  I "believe" all my apps are there (by the way, this did eliminate the User Privileges problems with Photoshop.) However, none of defaults from the other "Account Name" are available.  I basically want to duplicate the same hard drive with the new AdMin User account.  Is that possible?

    KLOS wrote:

    See #6 here
    ..Step by Step to fix your Mac
    None of my apps were in the Dock; none of my apps were in the control bar.  I "believe" all my apps are there
    There are basically two levels in installing applications.
    1: Applications folder, which is for global use across accounts.
    2: User account specific, which includes Finder menulets, some browsers or any app that's sit's in the user account folders instead of being in the global Applications folder or it's sub-folders (like Utilities)
    When you created the new Admin account, it comes like a brand new account, the basic items in the Dock and so forth.
    When you installed software, it might have put those shortcut items in the Dock and elsewhere for you out of convenience. Also when Adobe installed it installed globally for all users, and each available user account (at the time of install) it placed the Dock shortcuts most likely.
    To place a shortcut item into the Dock
    Open your Applications folder, find the app and drag it's icon to the Dock and squeeze it in so it makes room and let go, it will make a copy there and put the original back into the Applications folder.
    If you drop it on the Desktop by accident, put it back into the Applications folder and try again.

    Hi,
    I'm unable to access the admin settings of a new spa525g2 phone, when trying http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/admin I get 403 Forbidden and the admin link on the gui does not appear. After a few seconds after booting the it is no more possible to acces the gui through the web access.

    Reset the phone as shown here on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq3jYvzTlJc
    Should do the trick.
    Be warned this should wipe your phone back to the factory defaults and you will have to setup your phone again from scratch!

  • How to Create a New Admin Account and Change Original to Standard Account?

    I have a single user admin account that I set up when I got my PowerBook. Now I want to have two accounts with the new one being the admin account. This way I can leave most of the data files, email accounts, etc. with the old account and use the new one for personal data and admininistration. Then I could give out the password for the original account without fear that a user could change permissions and get access to the new account with the personal data. Can I create a new admin account and then change the original account to "Standard" instead of "admin"? What problems will this create?

  • Creation of new admin role in Exchange Online Protecion

    HI,
    I am brand new with the Exchange Online Protection solution.
    I want to create a new admin role since the default one do not offer teh specific rights that we need for a group.
    I went in Exchange admin Center > Permissions > Admin role and we can only edit the actual default groups.
    I need to be able to create new one.
    I did read somewere some powershell command but, since this is cloud base solution, i have hard time to believe that there is no option to create a custom role on the actual web interface of EOP.
    Anybody have a solution for that ?
    Thx

    Hi,
    as far as I can see you can't create roles in EOP because there is access necessary to Exchange Online. EOP has only limited access to Exchange Online or no access. It seems to me that managing roles is not part of EOP.
    To be sure you should open a support case in the admin center.

    Updated my AppleID account info.  Under password security shows an email address to be used to receive email with new password settings.  I need to update that email address, how do I do that?  Thanks!

    Thanks for the help Niel.  I couldn't change the rescue email address (an address that no longer exists and is therefore useless) until I could correctly answer the security questions.  After numerous guesses, finally got them right.  Was then presented with the option to change the rescue email address. Guess the only other option was to have Apple Support make the change or reset my account info.  Have made note of the correct answers so this won't happen again.   Thanks for the fast response!!

  • Acrobat 8: JobOptionsFolder / PDF Admin Settings in Windows registry

    Hello,
    Systems are Windows XPSP2, Acrobat Professional 8.1.2
    We would like to share *.joboption files via a readonly server share (W2K3 Server).
    In the windows registry we find two values with the default path to the *.joboptions files:
    1. HKLM\Software\Adobe\PDF Admin Settings\, Default (Reg_SZ)
    2. HKLM\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\8.0\ , JobOptionFolder (Reg_SZ)
    both registry values point to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings\"
    When we change these values to "\\server\share\", which is write protected by security settings, and copy the installed *.joboption files to this location, all seems to work fine.

  • How to make the hard disk visible in a new admin account?

    I created a new admin account, in order (hopefully) to solve some problems that I've been having with SPSS21 for Mac.  But when I log on as a new admin account, my hard disk no longer appears on the desktop.  It (and all the folders and files in it) are still accessible by clicking on the hard disk in the path bar in a folder, but it's annoying not to have the icon on the hard disk.  I don't know why the icon for the hard disk does not appear on the desktop.  Does anyone know why, and how to make it appear?  Thanks.

    Oh, my god!  I'm so embarrassed that I couldn't figure this out myself, after being a devoted Mac user for three decades!  It's so obvious!  Thank you so much!

    Please I'll be thankfull.

    I stated that I did try to do all of this when I first set up the new computer...I did do the Setup Assistant numerous times but my old computer kept freezing half way through.  Even if I did it when I first got the new computer back in Septemeber, I would have had the same issue b/c my old computer has been 'broken' for a while.  My old computer can't handle doing too much at once and I think the setup and then migration functions I tried were too much.  That's why I was hoping I could use the migration function piecemeal.  I wish I could just check off the exact files and folders I want vs. having to choose it at the 'user' level...that's too much for my old computer to have to transfer.

  • How do I edit my alias and name in the new "My Settings" ?

    How do I edit my alias (and/or name) in the new "My Settings" panel ? The alias and name are not editable. When using myinfo.apple.com, there is no "alias" field. This seems to be only a feature in Discussions but is no more editable. Please help !

    I think that the idea is good, although nothing prevents that a "bad" user can create a new account on each login.
    The È is not the only problem. In Spain we use two last name, and in spanish translation of "my info", middle name is translated as first lasts name and english last name as second last name, so my alias is completely wrong (name + second last name).
    I think that nothing could happen if "good" users could change the alias once. I tried day after the warning, and I couldn't.

  • How to create a new admin user in oracle 9i?.

    Hi I am new to oracle. I want to set up a new database for my application.
    How to create a new admin user in oracle 9i?. I would like to have a new schema. where I can create tables for my application from scratch.

    If I understand your question correctly:
    You need to be connected to the database with the user SYS.
    open a command-line session and do the following to create an Oracle user with DBA option other than SYS.
    C:\>sqlplus /nolog
    SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Fri Oct 14 08:46:13 2005
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.
    SQL> conn  /  as sysdba
    Connected.
    SQL>
    SQL> create user test identified by pass;
    User created.
    SQL> grant create session to test;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> alter user test account unlock;
    User altered.
    SQL> grant dba to test with admin option;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> conn test/pass
    Connected.
    SQL>
    SQL> sho user
    USER is "TEST"
    SQL>Now you have a user with username 'test' and password 'pass' with DBA role with Admin option
    Tony Garabedian
    From now on you can connect directly with SQL*Plus no need for comman-line. Just provide the username/password and you're logged in.

  • Change name on "Home" folder or new admin

    I just got a Mac at ABT Electronics and it was a open box return with the old OSX on it so they instaled it for me. But since it wasnt purchased by me they got all the names wrong. I want to change the home name but I cant find a way. Would it be easier to just get a whole new admin account and delete this one?

    Hi There
    I suggest creating a new admin user and deleting the current one as changing the name can cause erratic behaviour, just make sure to move any important files over to the new admin user before deleting the current one.
    I also suggest creating a standard account to be used for everyday computing eg. checking email, web browsing etc. and just using the Admin account to install software and updates. This also adds an extra layer of security to your machine.
    Hope this helps

  • I just purchased a one year old iMac.  How do I create a brand new admin account?

    I just purchased a one year old iMac.  How do I create a brand new admin account?

    The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1a. If you don't own another Mac
    If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received those media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
    To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    Some models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you may not be able to reinstall 10.6 even from the original discs, and Internet Recovery may not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    1b. If you do own another Mac
    If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    2. Partition and install OS X
    If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
    If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.
