New Client wants FLV File

I have a potential client that wants a flash video -flv. I
have not made flash video before. I gave them a flv file that was
close to what they wanted. But, I really don't know what I am
doing. I have an idea but not sure if I am doing it right or
what... 1. I edit on final cut pro and i thought that I could just
creat a qt file and import it to the sorenson squeez and make the
flash video, But it will only except AVI,DVor Mov files which means
I have to compress it before I put it in squeez for the flv file. 2
I am using Soesen Squeez on a mac platform I am not sure if the
client is using PC or mac. There is a buffer between me and the
tech person this is because of the person I am dealing with. Is
there a internet site or a how to to see that or some who can help
me?

It doesn't matter if the client is on PC or Mac - the FLV
file is an FLV file regardless.
You probably didn't get the correct version of Sorenson
Squeeze. There is a version that supports quicktime:

I need to play a FLV file on a web page, but I don't want it playing in a visible player. That is I don't want there to be the usual Play button and no frame. I want it to work and look much like this link:

It is similar to those infamous "Mac vs PC" videos which occasionally play on the home page of NYtimes.com.
My flash ability in this area is limited. (I'm a Joomla pro but not a flash pro.)
Looking at the source code, I see various swf controller file links, and some javascript, I think. I have no idea what is in the swf files that may or may not be making it all work.
First of all I don't even know if it is possible for a FLV file to play above html and then disappear revealing the html when it is finished playing. I assume with the swf and javascript and divs this is possible, but am not sure.
Ideally I would love the complete code if possible. Or links to where I can find out how to do it.
Need clarification? Just let me know!

it's possible. but you have quite a lot to learn or you should hire someone. it's unlikely you'll find someone to do all that gratis.
if you want to learn, check the video class. it will let you play the flv file without a skin.
you can also use the flvplayback component with no skin. that will add to your swf's file size with no benefit except it's easier to use than the video class.
the floating and disappearing can all be done with divs.

I'm using PS6.0 and a client wants ".svg" files

I have a client requesting black and white line art be saved as a .svg file and when I looked at my current version of PS 6.0 (I know it's old and atiquated) I don't see that format in the dropdown in SAVE AS. Is there another format you can recommend which is in the vein of .svg which I can look for? This client wants basic black & white images they can "video transcribe" into an animated ad of sorts (or give my work to an animator), for an insurance company.

In any case you may want to look into what improvements (and other changes) have been implemented in Photoshop since version 6; there have been plenty, if they would be relevant to your work you’ll have to decide yourself.

Opening New Window for the file

Hi Everyone,
I have a requirement, where in the client has policy file, which is made to display when clicked on a link.
But the problem is, the pdf policy file opens in the same window. If the user closes the pdf policy file window, the connection to the application will be lost and the data that is entered in the previous page is also lost.
For the above reason, the client wants the file to open in a new window instead of in the same window. So that the connection to the application is not lost, even if the Policy file window is closed.
Can anyone help me in accomplishing the above with list possible customization.

You're a bit of a bind.
To save backwards you need to File>Export and choose IDML
But you will need to find someone with InDesign CS4 or CS5 as that is the versions that will allow to File>Export and choose INX.
INX is the only version that can be opened in CS3.
To be clear - the client should really update to the same version as you - as with each version the text engines are different, so there will be different line endings and perhaps even overset text depending on the layouts etc.
Plus any new feature in CS6 that was not in Cs5.5 or earlier versions will be stripped out - and going back to CS3 there are a few things which could alter the layout significantly.
I suggest the client upgrade to the latest version. Or if you can find a CS3 version online to purchase for yourself - either way - you should both work on the same version of the software.

You can check the home page setting:

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

New to Soundbooth....How can I export audio from a .flv file?

Hi,
I am sorta new to SB. My girlfriend has purchased a study program that has numerous .flv files on a DVD. She has asked if I can take the audio and convert each movie to an .mp3, (so that she can listen to the videos on her Iphone). I figured I could open them in SB and then export as an .mp3, which would work fine on her Iphone.
The problem I run into is that when I open the .flv files in SB, the video appears, but the audio doesnot. The .flv videos play fine in every other program. Am I doing something wrong? I figure since she purchased the DVDs (and owns the study program), that I am not doing anything illegal by removing the audio. Are they encrypted?
Any other way to do this?

Use the Share menu. Choose Export Using QuickTime.
Choose Sound to AIFF.

If that file is an FLV file then Firefox should save it as such and not change the file extension.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Please Help! I want to covert an FLV file to an AVI file HOW?!?

I downloaded a youtube video which was an MP4 and used Flash CS3 Video Encoder to encode it to an FLV file. Actually improved the quiktime file. Anyway, my question is: I want to encode the FLV file to an AVI file to put on a DVD for a friend to view in their DVD player. They don't have internet capabilities [ ] so I can't email the link.
If I can make a DVD so they can view the AVI files that would be the cats meow!!
I tried using the video import wizard to import the FLV file into Flash CS3 but can't seem to figure out what to do. I know there is someone out there that can help me.
OH, PLEASE!! You guys have always been SOOO helpful in the past.

If your friend has a DVD player that can play avi files, that's great! but most DVD players will not play .avi files, since .avi is more or less a Windows based video container format... for use on computers, not broadcast TV or DVD players.
But if you're sure that it will work, there are lots of flv to avi converters available. Just Google "flv to avi converters", for example:

Thanks. I was clicking on a .flv file thinkin that I needed to download it from Khan Academy, however, that was not necessary. All I had to do was click on the forward arrow appearing above the download location to actually play the video. I now understand how to play the videos.

FLV files in dreamweaver....??

I have just started creating websites and thus this is all still new to me so let me try to explain. A client has asked for a website and got a Graphic designer to create a moving animation for me to put on the site. He supplied the file as an FLV file. When I put it into Dreamweaver, it thinks it is a video and puts the skin on. I dont want the skin! How can I convert the file to something else? and what should i convert to?!!

Obviously the designer does not know the difference between flv and swf. My advice would be to contact the designer and ask them to supply the animation as an swf file.
Alternatively, if you have flash proffessional you could create your own custom skin and use this instead of the normal one.

What's it take to show FLV files?

I'm fairly far out of the Flash loop.
We'd like to start hosting FLV files on our site. These are
being produced
by external vendors.
Once I get the FLV file, what would I need to do to add it to
our site. I
assume I'd need some sort of flash based FLV player.
Would I need to manually set up each FLV file in a SWF
manually in Flash? Or
is there a standalond Flash component (SWF) that could be
configured on the
server movie-by-movie to eliminate the need for setting each
one up in
Flash.
The issue is that we're going to be getting more and more FLV
files with
more and more employees wanting them posted on their
individual pages and we
don't want to be burdened with having to create a custom SWF
for each and
every video if at all possible.

I'm sure there are components out there but I've always
created my own or
created them for my clients. I've done this a couple ways:
dump all the flv
files in a folder on the server and do a dir read with a
server side script
and out put in an xml format that flash can read. Or, have a
db with the
info to the path to the flvs, then do the same xml format for
flash to use.
As for the flash file itself, you could do this any number of
ways once you
have the flv files' information.

I am attempting to add a page with flv videos of a client's
tv commercials. I want to use the template I have used to create
most of the other pages on the site. It works well and I have had
no problems. When I attempt to add the flv file to the page, I get
this error: "Making this change would require changing code that is
locked by a template or translator. The change will be discarded."
Just for grins, I tried dragging a jpeg onto the page and
that worked fine with no error. I use the Lynda dot com tutorials
and as far as I can tell, I am following the correct procedure.
Being now at my wits end, I will appreciate comments from those who
know much more than I.

The problem is that when you are putting the flv in a child,
when your
dialog box pops up, uncheck "Prompt useres to download Flash
Player if
neccasary"
That should do it.

How to protect your .flv files on a server?

So I have a .swf which references playback of some .flv files on my server....Is there a way to protect these .flv files from access through any means other than with the .swf controls I have created? Currently I can simply type in the url location of the .flv files and download them completely circumventing the .swf if I so choose, which is not really how I would like them to exist...
I would far prefer that they are only accesible through the .swf.
Is there any way to do this....I know it's not a Dreamweaver specific question, or at least I don't think it is...but I would be interested in any thoughts.

Lynda.com uses either Quicktime or Flash...they added Flash playback of movies within a new Flash Player around a year ago. I'm a member of Lynda and use their services all the time.
When I was trying a flash grabber it was on these Flash based tutorial videos.
Just thought you would like to know that Lynda does have a Flash option and the grabber does not work with it.
My initial question is not in any way about me grabbing or copying Flash movies anyway, but rather that I want to protect my own Flash based movies on my own website.

SAP* and DDIC passwords for new clients in Sol Man 4.0

I just recently finished a Solution Manager 4.0 on Windows 2003 server box. Then, I performed some of the post installation steps until I had to create a new client. So, I went to scc4 and created a new client. When trying to get access to this new client through SAP*, the default password did not work and the entries were not created in the table usr02. Also, I tried to insert the missing entries into the usr02 table, but had no success after all.
I hope some of you can help on this, because I am stucked on it.

If you install a new ABAP or ABAP+Java system, in most cases you do not need to perform the client copy for
the ABAP stack. SAPinst creates three ABAP clients during the installation, client 000, client 001, and client 066.
You can use client 001 for production.
The following procedure describes how to perform a client copy manually. We recommend that you
use client 001 as source client.
Caution
If you want to use a client other than the default of 001 as your production client, you have to reconnect
the Java part to the production client as described in SAP Note 937323.
Procedure
1. Maintain the new client with transaction SCC4.
2. Activate kernel user SAP*:
 a) Set the profile parameter
 Login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to 0.
 b) Restart the application server.
3. Log on to the new client with kernel user SAP* and password PASS.
4. Copy the client with transaction SCCL and profile SAP_CUST.
5. Check the log files with transaction SCC3.
6. Deactivate kernel user SAP*:
 a) Reset login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to 1.
Caution
 You create SAP system user SAP* on the new client
 before resetting
login/no_automatic_user_sapstar.
 b) Restart the application server.
