New Computer. How do I NOT lose all my files?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this. However, here goes. I recently had my computer completely quit on me. Luckily I keep my files and whatnot on my external harddrive. I was without a computer for about three months and in the meantime there were some things that I purchased/added via the app and the iTunes store on my phone.
There are also new phone numbers and events added to my calender.
How can I sync my phone with my new computer without losing my information of files?

Unless you have over the air syncing for contact information and calendar events with an Exchange or MobileMe account, the iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer for contact information and calendar events. Contact information and calendar events are not included with your iPhone's backup.
Assuming your new computer is running Vista, you can sync contact information with Windows Contacts - the address book used by Windows Mail - or whatever the name change is for Outlook Express with Vista.
Enter one contact in the Windows Contacts address book before syncing contact information. This will provide a merge prompt for this data, which you want to select.
If you don't select sync contact information and calendar events with a supported application on your computer under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences, this data on your iPhone should not be touched.
I suggest syncing your iPhone's contact information - how do you get by without having your contact info available on your computer - at lease for email exchange, and what happens if your iPhone is lost or stolen? If lost or stolen, your iPhone's contact information will be lost or stolen with your iPhone.

  • Syncing to a new computer - How much will I lose?

My original computer that I synced my Iphone too just died and for all practical purposes is unsalvageable.
If I sync it to another my computer (my laptop), will I be able to preserve my contacts? Will I be able to make a backup of it otherwise (text messages, etc)?

You will lose your music unless it was purchased from the iTunes store. To retrieve it to the new computer first open iTunes and turn off automatic syncing. Next Authorize it by choosing *Store/Authorize computer*. Then put the iPhone in the dock. After it is recognized choose *File/Transfer purchases* from iPhone.
If you have music that was not purchased from iTunes there are 3rd party products that can retrieve this music; do a web search, as this is not officially sanctioned by Apple.
For Calendar and Contacts make sure there is at least one entry of each on the new computer before you sync. Your contacts should then sync to the new computer.
Other data will be backed up on your new computer.

  • New Computer - how do I download music

OK - I posted a similar question in the past, but I'm still not real sure if I can do what I'm hoping. The original computer that I was downloading my music from crashed. I have a new computer now and have iTunes up and running and have even purchased some music. Can someone help me with how to get this music from my new computer/music library uploaded onto my iPod without losing what is already there from the original computer? P.S. I did have the iPod on the manual option before the original computer crashed - if that's helpful. Basically, I want to use the new computer exclusively now, but not lose the music that I uploaded from the music library on the original computer. Can this be done? And if yes, how???

Ok. Since you're syncing the iPod to a new computer, the first thing that the sync does is erase everything already on the iPod. But then it copies everything from iTunes on the computer over to the iPod. It's not the most efficient way to do things, but it keeps the record companies from accusing Apple of fostering music piracy.
Since you've already copied your music onto the computer and loaded it into your new copy of iTunes, you have nothing to lose by letting the iPod sync to the new library. If your iPod is acting odd, you can reset it to factory specs with the iPod updater.
The first time you sync with the new library it will take quite a while to copy everything. You may want to start the sync at night before you go to bed and let the computer and iPod sync overnight. Depends on how much music you have.
If you can play your purchased music on your computer (i.e. the computer is authorized), then the purchased music will be moved to your iPod.
As long as your library isn't bigger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes will pretty much take care of everything for you.

  • I want to move my ipod touch plus itunes to a new computer, how do I do this to ensure that I do not lose all my music

I want to move my ipod touch plus itunes to a new computer, how do I do this to ensure that I do not lose all my music?

    - iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    - iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Copy/move the iPod backup file from the old to new computer.  That file is located here and you may have to have show hidden files turned on.
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    - After all the stuff in on your new computer, restore the iPod from backup.

  • I have collected alot of music over the years and the new update will delete all my music.  I have puchased a new computer about a year ago so the previous music that I have is not available.  Is there anyway to get the update and not lose all my music

I have collected alot of music over the past couple years and the new update for the itouch says that it will erase all music and videos on the ipod.  Is there anyway to do the update and not lose all my music or is there a way to take all the music off my ipod and store it on my computer to put back on after the update?  Any help

... I have had numerous computers over the past years
Let me guess, you have had numerous Windows computers, all of which crashed or became worthless virus-ridden junk. Happens every day, yet people think Macs are expensive.
Anyway, you are going to need the assistance of third party utilities to extract your iPod Touch's content. See wjosten's procedure here:

  • I am due to upgrade my iPhone 3 to iPhone 5. I have icloud which co-ordinates my phone and mac what happens when I get a new phone - I dont want to lose all my contacts, notes, addresses etc. Do I have to disconnect icloud and how? What happens?

I am due to upgrade my iphone 3 to iphone 5.  I have icloud which is co-ordinating my iphone 3 and Mac Pro updating each other.  What happens when I get a new phone - I dont want to lose all my addresses, notes etc.  What is the procedure and step by step action?  The new phone arrives - then what?

When I upgraded from the iPhone 3GS to iPhone 5, I simply did a Backup of my phone using iTunes, plugged in the new iPhone 5 into my Mac, and did a Restore of that backup to put everything back. This procedure is documented around the web. Also, the new phone will ask you for your Apple ID and when you enter it, all your iCloud info will be downloaded to the phone. It worked pretty well for me.

I have restored a backup into a new iPad but it did not downloaded all my photos. There is a message saying " downloading 515 of 1230" but it never finishes downloading. How can I get all my photod downloadeda.

Sorry this solution is late but I just got off of the phone with Apple support and this worked.
    Open iTunes
Connect your iPhone and keep it connected during this entire process.
In the iTunes menu at the very top (File, Edit, View) choose STORE> Sign in and sign into your iTunes account.
Once this is complete look at the upper right corner of iTunes and you will see an iPhone and Store button, cick STORE.  Now you will be in the iTunes store where you see the advertisements of the various albums, songs etc.  Look on your upper left of the window for your itunes account name and in the black band next to your iTunes account name, you will see a House icon, then Music, Movies, TV Shows etc.
Make sure the HOUSE icon is selected.
Stay on this screen in iTunes and on the lower RIGHT, you will see an area that says- QUICK LINKS.  In that area click - Purchased
After you do this you will be transported to another area of iTunes.  Here there will be a menu across the top- Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Books are the choices.
Choose APPS and you will see the apps that you have purchased.  You will also see the apps that didn't download to your phone.
Find the apps that didn't download and click the cloud next to their name.  Doing this will download the chosen apps to the computer you are on.
Once you have downloaded the apps in question, in the upper right corner click LIBRARY.
Now you should see the button that says iPhone because your phone is still plugged in.  Click the iPhone button and then click SYNC on the lower right to sync your iPhone.
The apps you downloaded will now be on your phone.
Sorry for the long instructions but this is what works.

  • How do I authorize my new computer when I'm not getting a prompt to authorize?

I'm trying to authorize my new computer, however I'm not being prompted with a tab to authorize! Also I need to deactivate my old computer. How do I do these?

Log into iTunes Store on your old computer. Select De-authorize This Computer from the Store menu.
Log into iTunes Store on your new computer. Select Authorize This Computer from the Store menu.
About De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
Also, see iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - To transfer other music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
