New customer (well been away from bt for ten years...

Hi everyone
this is my first post so be gentle!  this morning I had a text message telling me my brand New phone service was ready to use,great thinks I. So I tried to phone the mrs from work but I went through to some body else's phone,not good BT.
I tried the helpline and was told they had to test the line,so I had to go home from work and unscrew the box plug the phone into a master socket and retry,obviously still dead. Phoned the helpline again and they told me that I would have to have an engineer out to check and poss pay 99pounds,so they cant get out until Saturday,so another day off work and poss 99 pounds poorer.
I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall,has anybody else had similar problems?
 oh.. And the poor people who my New number goes to are getting my calls!

the charge is only made if the fault is found to be with your equipment or internal wiring after the master  socket  it sounds more like an extrnal /exchange problem which will be no charge they just need to check  the line from your end to re check the routing

    Hi, if anyone has any advice I'd be very grateful.
    I'm travelling and will be away from home for about 1 year. If I take my ipod (ipod photo) and a travel charger, will the music "last" for a year without being updated from the computer?
    I'm worried if the hard disk is corrupted somehow, i will be stuck with a fully charged but empty ipod.

    I bought my 3G 40G iPod just before I left on a RTW trip 15 months ago. I have constantly charged it and although I am definately not getting the reported 12 hours, the only real problem I have encountered has been the iPod freezing but a soft re-boot sorts it out.
    Your music will last without any issues on the iPod and it does not need to be updated from your/a computer.
    The MAJOR problem I had, believe it or not, was boredom with no new music! I had 5,500 songs but missed having new music as I didn't have a laptop, so I had no home computer.
    I have resolved it by reformatting my iPod to Windows and I now buy CD's (I'm in South East Asia) and I rip them onto public computers and upload them using one of the many iPod software packs you can download for free.
    When you are away you will experience so much new and fresh music its great to be able to get them on your iPod.
    I haven't had any problems with corrupting my hard drive and it shouldn't really be an issue you will encounter.
    The only thing I did do was buy a 40G external hard drive (fifty pounds) and backed up all my music onto it - I had a minor scare when I thought I had lost all my music - so maybe that is something you could consider.

    I have been a Quicken user for many years but have heard that the move to Yosemite is a Quicken nightmare - so I'm trying to research new software.  I'm overwhelmed by the number of available programs, all the things that each program can do and perplexed by the arguments for and against each feature in each program. 
    My needs are relatively simple for my small business:  1)  I need to be able to import years worth of Quicken data into the new program  2)  I need to easily print checks  3)  I need to easily reconcile my checking account each month and  4)  I need to generate basic reports for my accountant (e.g. P & L statements, category summaries).
    I have been a FileMaker user since 1.0 so I don't need (or want) A/R, A/P, inventory management, invoicing, etc.
    I just need a solid, dependable electronic checkbook per above.
    Suggestions?

    I would recommend you continue with Quicken Essentials.  As noted by others, it performs well on Yosemite.
    My personal experience is Quicken 2007 for Mac also on 10.7.5 (with many reports of it both updated and successfully running on Yosemite) and I personally would not touch Quicken Essentials with a 10 foot pole -- BUT, if it ain't broke for you, don't fix it!

    Apple supports most of their computer products for a 7 year period, could be that your IBook is well past any kind of help.Secondly parts are no longer being made for this machine and never will be again. Finally I find it hard to believe that nothing has been done with this for 6 years.Have you documented the reasons why you were turned down for repairs ? were the replaced Ibooks within a couple of months of warranty expiration? What model is your IBook ? At least if we knew what the model #, some of the more techy types could find out if there were any repair programs for your model.
    Seems odd that you'd hang on to a non-working IBook for that long.

    Are you trying to get an upgrade before you're actually eligible? If that is the case, it doesn't matter if you've been a customer for 6 years or 6 days...if you're not eligible then you're not eligible. Some of your possible options are to pay full retail, do an early edge up (if you are eligible for that option), or buying a phone from some other source to use.
    If your situation is something different then it might help to share that. The options may still be the same but it helps to know what exactly the issue is.

    I had to reboot my desktop computer to original manufacturers specifications and all my purchased Itune music was deleted from my computer.  I didn't back up my itunes because they advertise they keep a record of your purchased music.  I contacted Itunes and they have stated they only have a record of purchases made this year.  I've been a member for ten years.  Any ideas on how to get back my purchased music?  Also, I have an old Ipod Nano that I haven't used for quite some time because the battery didn't hold its charge, and it has some of my older purchased music.  Itunes said I can't get the music on my old ipod downloaded back onto my computer, any ideas on this?

    No. If you want an extended warranty you still must purchase it. It is not included with education pricing.

    Your email address (used as your Apple ID) does not matter, because iPods are not directly linked to a particular Apple ID. 
    NOTE:  You can still use your old Apple ID, even if your that email address is no longer valid.  As long as you remember your Apple ID password.  Go here and click on Manage your Apple ID.

    You can change the primary email address used by Apple, although the Apple ID remains the same.
    Back to the iPod.  iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
    Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.  After confirming everything is there, sync your iPod to that library.  If there is any content purchased from the iTunes Store that uses DRM (copy protection), such as audiobooks, videos, and very old song purchases, iTunes may prompt you to authorize your computer with your Apple ID (the one you used to make the purchases).

    If it's frozen, reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

    Do I have to be near my printer (within my wireless signal) to use the Zeen?  I will be traveling and I cannot find out where or how to get the zeen to find and lock into another WiFi signal away from my home. I went to a place that has a locked wireless signal and went to a place (library) that should have had an open signal. I could not figure out how or where to enter the code for the house with the locked wireless. 
    Help is so appreciated. I so want to take the zeen for small internet stuff while on vacation but can't if it wont work independent of the printer. The printer just can't go...it's too big for my suitcase

    Hi imtad,
    You can take the Zeen, all you have to do is from the home screen:
    Go to the menu button (the four little lines by the home icon).
    Go to settings.
    Go to wireless.
    Select the network you wish to connect to at the bottom of the screen.
    If a password is required, you will be prompted to enter it.
    At the top of the wireless menu, under Zeen Wi-Fi, it should say 'Connected' if all is successful.

    You don't just click the home and sleep button, you have to hold them down for at least 10 seconds while it is connected to the charger. If it comes awake (and it could take several tries) ignore the red Off slider, wait for the Apple logo and then let go of the buttons.
    But that may not work. Polymer Ion batteries need exercise, a full power cycle is recommended once a month. Your battery may be dead.

  • New iTunes 10 took away auto syncing for PDFs from podcasts?!

    You might as well make this a sticky since I've answered my own question:
    The autosyncing of PDFs to iBooks has been changed. You now have to select your PDFs and put them to the "book" selection under media selection. I guess you can make a smartlist to find your PDFs so you can find them quickly to change their media type.

    Ok Apple why did you have to break something that was working perfectly to begin with? None of the PDFs can be synced to my iPhone now even though it says it is. This is just ******* ignorant that you had to go and change something yet again!
    Now I've got to figure out a good way to get these PDFs from the podcast folder into either my AirSharing or Stanza apps so I can read them again.
    Does anyone have a good idea about how to do this, preferably automatically?
