New doc facing pages?

I'm trying to simply create a new doc starting on page 2 with facing pages. I can handle all except for the start page being 2 (or any even number). The resulting document has to be manually re-numbered starting with 2. Any way to create the new doc via javascript to start with page 2-3 spread?

var myDoc = app.documents.add();
var myFirstPage = myDoc.pages[0];
var mySec = myFirstPage.appliedSection;
mySec.continueNumbering = false;
mySec.pageNumberStart = 2;
var mySecondPage = myDoc.pages.add();

  • Created a new doc in pages 4.3 yesterday  now message says i need newer version to open my docs

    Created a new Pages doc yesterday with my current version. Now can't open it. Message says I must upgrade to Pages 5.1. If the doc was created in my current version, 4.3, why can't I still open it. Other documnets created some time ago get same message.  Reviews of 5.1 are not even that terrific.

    Are you using Mavericks OSX 10.9.2, your tag says Mac OSX 10.6.2?
    If so are you sure you have not converted your file to Pages 5.1 format using either Mac Pages 5.1 or an iPad version?

  • Starting a new doc in Pages

    I have just downloaded iWork 8 onto my new MacBook Pro and have opened Pages but can't get it to type into a blank word processing template ie no cursor

    CM,
    Are you sure you just downloaded iWork 08? That's a very rare item. If so, run Software Update to add all the patches to bring that old app into compatability with Mountain Lion.
    Then, make sure that you are really in a Word Processing Template and not a Page Layout Template.

    You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
    Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
    Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
    You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
    Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
    Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
    Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
    Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
    Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
    All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
    Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
    Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

    I wonder if you are running an OS earlier than 10.9.x?  If so, you cannot run the *latest* version of Pages, which is 5.1.  Apple is trying to get you to update your OS to 10.9 Mavericks and then get you to update (but defintiely not upgrade) your Pages version to 5.1.  5.1 is, in everything but name, beta software. It not only has many bugs, it also lacks more than 90 features that are present in version 4.3 ("Pages 09"). One workaround that is to open the file with Pages for icloud (this is explcitly beta) and click tools|download a copy in Word format.  Pages 4.3, which is probably the version you have, can open Word documents.  Get a cup of coffee or a glass of wine before starting Pages for icloud: it is s-l-o-w.

  • How do I create a newsletter with facing pages that have the margins adjusted for stapling the pages on the left side? ...Like a book.I hate the new pages.

    Can anyone recommend a program for newsletters that makes sense.  I used AppleWorks and the old page without any problem. Facing pages, two columns, text boxes, photos, mastheads.   The new pages *****! I can't adjust spacing between lines as needed, I can't adjust the margins for facing pages. Inspector is not what it used to be.  If I use Pages '09 v. 4.3 (1048), I am not allowed to make corrections. My choice is cancel, update, or correct a copy which is no longer '09.
    iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1

    How are you "not allowed to make corrections"?

  • Cant get my pages docs that I created on my iPad (new version of pages) to open on my MAC.  Reads: "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document.". But I have the latest!

    Help - I cant get the docs I created in pages on my ipad to open on my MAC. I've used iCloud, emailed to myself - all I get is "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document.".  But my MAC has the newer version!

    I have Pages for iOS 2.0.1 on my iPad and Pages '09 (4.3) on my Macbook Pro.
    I haven't upgraded anything in the past few months. Still on OS 10.8.5.
    Suddenly, something has changed.
    If I open a new Pages doc on my iPad and later try to open it on my Mac, I get the error message saying I need a newer version of Pages.
    Also, if I open an existing doc on the iPad (one that I've worked on repeatedly from both devices) I get the same message. A couple did open, but only if I hadn't touched them on the iPad. Anything opened today on the iPad won't open on the Mac.
    I can open and edit these docs in the Pages beta at www.icloud.com but not on my Mac.
    I don't want Mavericks and a new version of Pages now (I'm in the middle of a major project and have learned not to make major upgrades until major things are finished).
    For now, the best I can do is open docs in iCloud, copy all, and paste into a new Word doc. Yes, back to Word. Thought I was finished with Microsoft.
    Is there a better solution?

  • Facing pages options missing in new Pages

    Am I missing something or is the facing pages options not available in new Pages app?

    Fitzherbert if you are working on a book (which most people using the Facing Pages feature are) then you probably want to use iBooks Author.
    you can download it for free here http://www.apple.com/ibooks-author/
    It is a great app and you can export your book as a PDF if you don't want to publish it on iBooks.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is facing pages back in the new pages update (pages 5.2)

    Before I decide on installing the new Pages again I want to make sure that the facing pages feature has beed added back in.  Can anyone tell me if this is in pages5.2 now?

    No. See this subsequent post.

  • Does anyone know how I can create "facing pages" in new Pages? I could do it in Pages 09, but can't find the option in new Pages.

    Does anyone know how I can create "facing pages" in new Pages? I could do it in Pages 09 but can't find the option in new Pages. I have documents created in Pages 09 and want to do some further work on them, but am now using new pages.

    There were 100+ features that didn't make it into the "new & improved, rewritten from the ground up” Pages 5. Some have returned with the updates & there are some new features that are worthwhile, but there are still 90+ features missing. Leave feedback for the Pages team using the link in the Pages menu and review & rate the new versions in the Mac App Store.
    If you previously had iWork '09, those apps are still in your Applications folder in a folder named iWork '09. You can continue to use them to get things done.

  • When opening a CS 6 doc, why aren't facing pages centered in the window?

    It's driving me crazy that InDesign CS 6 opens facing-page documents, such as book chapters, with the spreads in erratic places: up, down, to the side, but seemingly never centered in the window! What's going on?

    Peter, regarding your manual "replace preferences" method, I did that, and InDesign still moves the spread when it's re-opened (unless I adhere to Steve Werner's limitation of only using "fit in window" before I close it.) If for any reason I zoom out a bit while working, and save it that way, when the file is re-opened, it very much off-center, and cannot really be worked on until I pull it back to a quasi-centered position. I don't think I'm unusual in wanting to work on a spread that's approximately in the middle of my window. There's absolutely no reason for InDesign to move the position of the spread when it's re-opened. It's not a "feature request," as Steve Werner said, it's a bug... Plain and simple. And far from "honestly, I don't think most people notice," I respectfully disagree: I think people notice. I'm hugely appreciative of anyone who helps with these forums, don't get me wrong. Your input, and Steve's input helped me think through this problem. I now firmly believe it's an interface bug, and will request that Adobe fix it in a future release. Thanks again.

  • Pages '09 wont' open any docs or begin new doc

    Running Pages '09 version 4.3. Mac OSX 10.7.5. No recent upgrades or changes. Went to begin a new document in Pages the other day and got this:
    It does absolutely nothing if I try to open an existing file, even from the Recently Opened on the menu - not even an error message or spinning ball. Where do I even begin to troubleshoot this. I'd kinda like my program back.

    You can not simply drag over Pages, particularly if it was perhaps damaged in a crash.
    As it was only Pages '08 it may be time to upgrade to Pages '09 from the App Store. It is not that expensive and will allow you to install it on any Mac sharing the same Apple I.D. and protect you from a repeat of this problem.
    There are free alternatives to Pages if you are hard strapped, it depends on what you are using Pages for, it is not the only option by far.

  • "You need a newer version of Pages"

    Today, when I tried to open my newsletter to print more copies, I was told I needed a newer version of Pages, which I could get from the App store. But the App Store shows I already installed it, which I did last weekend. Along with the OS update (10.9) that was released. What do I do? How do I open my document?

    Be careful beofre you commit to Pages 5, as a lot of features have been removed- particularly some (like linked text boxes, mail merge, and facing pages) that are useful to newsletters.
    Your old version of Pages should be still in an iWork folder within you Applications folder.  You can use that if you need it.
    Unless you delete Pages 5 or hide it from the system (in a zipped folder, for instance), remember to open your docs with a right-click "Open with... Pages 4.3," since merely opening them in 5 can destroy formatting.
    Good luck!

  • Adding columns to a single documents in facing pages

    I am using facing pages, and I dont need columns to all pages, but I would like to know how I can add the columns to the pages that I do need them ?

    Layout > Margins and Columns...
    Set up a new master, and do it there if you want to save time for multiple pages.
