New Email Settings - Verizon Email 14 Dec 2011

Before making any port or other setting changes to my email program, I would like verification that the email Verizon sent out yesterday is legit.  I followed the link and it took me to http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSInternet/Email/Setup+And+Use/QuestionsOne/124289.htm?CM... which listed several steps and other links for various versions of Outlook.
In reading other posts in this section, I see others have are having problems with the new settings and had to change the new back to the old, regardless of the program used.
If anyone from Verizon can verify the legitimacy of this, or if it has been, and I just did not see it, please do so.
Thank you!

Fully tested, and hundreds of thousands are using it successfully.  The only thing you should have been changing was the two ports and setting ssl on.
Check all your email settings. Suggested/required settings for regular verizon (not yahoo, etc)
pop3
outgoing requires authentication
outgoing.verizon.net 587, 465(SSL)
Incoming.verizon.net 110, 995(SSL)
Apop is supported for password authentication

  • New Email Settings and Westell Firewall Settings: May need adjustment to work

I have a Westell 7500 wireless router at work.
Old A90 modem and linksys wireless router at home.
Made the email server setting changes at home on a desktop, laptop and two iPhones.  All worked fine.
Took iPhone and laptop to work. Verizon email wound not work on either.  Outlook 2010 reported send/receive failure.
Tried to setup Office desktop with new email server settings: could not do it: the test email would fail every time.
After hours of research and frustration, EUREKA!
The firewall settings on the Westell 7500 were set too high and blocking the ports that Verizon now wants to use for mail.
Changed the firewall setting on the Westell router to "Minimum", clicked Apply and everything immediately worked.  The iPhone, the laptop and now I can make the changes to the desktop and it works with the new settings.
So, yes, the router that Verizon supplied, using its recommended settings (Medium for firewall) blocks the ports that Verizon says we must now use for email.
(Note that an alternative solution may be port forwarding the new port values - I did not try this.)

Does anyone know if Verizon supplies the actual port setting changes needed on the Westell modems in order to make their new email port requirement changes work???
I mean, they can't be serious with the whole "just change your firewall security to Low!"  instructions, can they...?
I can't imagine a real internet company whose only suggestions for implementing server changes they've made are  "lower your security".
Surely after all this time, they must have a page posted on their site somewhere that has complete instructions for the Westell firewalls which allow us to continue to use Verizon SMTP servers without lowering our firewall security across the board.....especially since their own rationale for making these changes is stated as being to increase security!
If anyone finds a link to those instructions, please post it.

  • New email settings for Mac Mail & 3rd party...

Anyone have instructions for new email port settings for users who are:
    -Using Mac Mail
-Using third mail email service provider (i.e., not sending and receiving through a Verizon address)
    Thanks,
Pardon me while I rant (I'm hoping a Verizon employee reads this)...
I use my third party email account exclusively. It's listed on my verizon account page. So, does verizon do the logical thing and send announcements to my third party email address (?) - of course not, they send them to the verizon address which I have never once used in years.
New port settings for some email users...
I got a phone call from an automated Verizon attendant telling me to check the following for new port settings for some email users:
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Email/Setup+And+Use/QuestionsOne/124333.htm
I guess Verizon hasn't heard that there are millions of people using Mac computers, with Mac Mail as their email clients. And, some of these users are using obscure third party email service providers with names like 'Google'. On the above linked page, there are no instructions for these users.
I tried to use the online live support feature to get a clarification about using the new port settings. A polite gentleman with a long Indian name told me he couldn't help me and gave me an 800 number to call. After calling the 800 number, a nice lady in the Philippines (on a terrible voice connection) told me she couldn't help me - she transferred me to another department where I waited and waited and waited. I finally had to hang up.
I'm beginning to think that Verizon is a division of the United States Postal Service. Come to think of it, I get much better service from the USPS than I get from Verizon.

Are you using the Mac Mail client or Verizon's netmail?

  • New email settings and Quickbooks

The new email settings work just fine for me with Thunderbird, but I also email out through Quickbooks for business.  The new settings do not work in Quickbooks, but the old ones still do.
    POP3 Server
    incoming.verizon.net
    pop.verizon.net
    YES
    995
    SMTP Server
    outgoing.verizon.net
    smtp.verizon.net
    YES
    465
I will add that the Quickbooks email settings are called "web mail" so not sure if the new settings even apply.
    Thanks!

This did not work. Talked toverizon and quickbooks tech support and hopefully find fix soon.

  • New email settings

Need help making email setting changes as written in recent email from verizon

Warning to iMac users when attempting to change the POP settings as per Verizon's request:
My husband had difficulty setting up the new email settings today, as Verizon had asked us to do via email notice, so he contacted Verizon by phone.  Someone attempted to walk him through the process and took control of our computer.  In so doing, the Verizon representative inadvertently deleted every email we ever wrote.  All of our emails with work information, personal information, all of it -- gone.
When my husband informed me of what happened, I contacted Verizon again and was told, "Oh yeah, that happens sometimes with Mac Mail."  I also contacted Apple, and there was nothing they could do.  There were a few emails from earlier today that were still available, but all of the other emails, thousands of them -- gone.  Unfortunately, while I had been keeping all of my emails on Mac Mail, on my hard drive, I regularly delete my emails from the Verizon.net website, so retrieving them from there was not an option.
It is mind-boggling to me that Verizon has no way to retrieve my emails -- that they deleted -- from their main server.  I find that very hard to believe.  I can understand how my hard drive may have eradicated them -- but I can't believe that they are truly gone.
Please be warned if you have an iMac or other Apple computer -- If you are dealing with the new changes verizon is asking customers to complete, you could lose all of your prior email.  Please back up your emails before attempting to complete their instructions.

  • New configuration for Verizon email on Apple products

So I am pretty tech savvy, having worked with both Apple and Windows formats since the mid 1980s.  I can follow instructions very well.  So when I follow the instructions for pushing my Verizon email to my iPhone 4S (or iPad or desktop), there is ALWAYS an error in the set up.  First, the Apple Mail app will automatically use the suggested incoming and outgoing servers (now pop or smtp) and we get "Cannot Connect Using SSL"  So I proceed, save and then use the Advanced Settings to ensure that SSL is on, authentication is Password, and that the server port is 995.  Same for SMTP but with port 465.
These are the settings recommended by Verizon.  So when I tried to explain to someone using the online chat that neither Apple Mail nor Thunderbird (Mozilla) work, I am told that it HAS to be the software.  If so, why does the software work with my G-mail and Exchange accounts? On one of my systems, I left the old settings (incoming.verizon.net and outgoing...) and was able to get my mail pushed.  With the changes in effect, I don't want to have to use a desktop to always check my Verizon mail.
Anyone had similar issues using Verizon mail on a Mac or iDevice?

It certainly sounds like you've had your hands full, Pops1958. Thanks for trying so hard to get your email account set up on your devices. Since you mentioned that your Gmail and Exchange accounts work fine, and the trouble seems to be on multiple Apple products, I would suggest reaching out to our friends at www.verizon.com/contactus for assistance with your Verizon.net email account. We here at Verizon Wireless can help out with any wireless concerns you may have and we want to make sure your cellular device is connecting to our network, but the email provider directly would be best for assistance with new email settings.
    Thank you

  • Cannot add a new email account, and hence icloud account. When i go into Settings - Mail, accounts, calendars,  the option to add a new account cannot be clicked (ghosted). I also have iCloud Settings ghosted (unclickable). Cannot change in itunes also.

Cannot add a new email account, and hence i have no way of creating an iCloud account (very frustrating). I had the same problem with iOS 4.3 but i had no email account to create as i set both up when i bought the iPhone 4. After adding a company email and a gmail account (both wok perfectly) i noticed that the option to create more email accounts had been ghosted (unclickable). This didn't worry me at the time. However, iCloud needs me to create one in here so i can access the cloud which i desperately want the ability to do. When i go into Settings -> Mail, accounts, calendars,  the option to add a new account cannot be clicked (ghosted). I also have iCloud in the iPhone Settings ghosted (unclickable). I have same problem in itunes on Mac OSX. Surely restoring isn't the solution as i restored my iphone when changing from iOS 4.3 -> 5. Please help?

    Go to
    Settings,
    General,
Restrictions, type in your Restriction Password,
    Accounts, tick Allow Changes.
Press the back key a few times till you're back in Settings, you should see iCloud is now highlight able, now go to Mail Contacts and Calenders and add your email account as per norm.
    Hope this helps.

  • After the iOS 8.0 update, our iPads with profile to restrict the modification of account settings, allows the creation of new email accounts!

We have hundreds of iPads 4 rollout to external sales forces. We used Apple Configurator to supervised them and on the top we deployed thru a MDM system the restriction profile to Disallow modifying account settings.
After updating some iPads to iOS 8.0 we found out that the restriction "Disallow/Allow modifying account setting" works different compared to iOS 7. Now in iOS 8 it is posible to create new email accounts.
Behavior in iOS7 (with supervised mode) :
    - This restrictions profile disabled the possibility to add, modify or delete email accounts from the Setting menu.
    - The EMAIL app is blocked popping up a warning message that a creation of an email account is restricted.
Behavior in iOS8.0 (with supervised mode) :
    - This restrictions profile disabled the possibility to add, modify or delete email accounts from the Setting menu.
    - Using the EMAIL app shows the standard options to create a email account: iCloud, Exchange, Google, etc. and let the user store the account.
    - In Settings the new Email account ist available, but without the permissions to modify or delete them
Does somebody experienced the same issue? Did you find a workaround?
Do anybody knows, if their is a fix on this issue in iOS 8.0.1?

Today we updated to the device to iOS 8.0.2, but we have see the same behavior: EMAIL app is not protected to create new email accounts.

My Ipad wont retrieve my new emails and if I try to check passwords in Settings, the settings window only stays open open for a second or two and the automatically closes. Any help on how to fix. I tried the turn off and on trick and that didn't work either. Thanks for any help.

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

Thanks for the help Niel.  I couldn't change the rescue email address (an address that no longer exists and is therefore useless) until I could correctly answer the security questions.  After numerous guesses, finally got them right.  Was then presented with the option to change the rescue email address. Guess the only other option was to have Apple Support make the change or reset my account info.  Have made note of the correct answers so this won't happen again.   Thanks for the fast response!!

My iPhone 4s has suddenly stopped making a noise to tell me new emails have arrived, this was after an ugrade to IOS 7.1.2.
It worked fine before and I didnt change anything but it just stopped dinging when I got a new email.
I have checked Settings-Sounds & Settings-Notification Centre and everything looks fine.
It worked ok a couple of weeks ago but not after the latest update - anyone know why?

    Thanks Lawrence
I omitted to say that it only occurs when the screen is locked - if I'm looking at something on my phone when an sms or email arrives, the phone 'notifies' me with a sound but doesnt do it when its screen is locked. Email messages and sms's (texts) still arrive but I get no sound to tell me they have.
The MUTE swith is in the correct place and I have tried resetting the phone with the Home and Sleep buttons several times, still to no avail.
I have noticed on the forums that many people are suffering or have suffered the same problem but Apple are never forthcoming, of course,

  • How can I change the settings on my iPhone 5 so that I get new emails automatically? Without having to open the mail app.

How can I change the settings on my iPhone 5 so that I get new emails automatically? Without having to open the mail app.
    Thanks!

No, they will all follow the default setting. If you want them all to fetch, for example every 15 minutes, then set it to 15 minutes in Fetch. I only mentioned the other if you wanted to leave one for manual. I have an account on my phone that is a POP account that I get mail at home from. I let my home computer get this mail, but when I am out of town, I pick it up with the iPhone. That one is set to manual.

Opening in the sidebar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the sidebar (Ctrl+B; Command+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.

I received an email containing a spreadsheet created using Mac Office 2004 on my new MacBook Air equipped with Mac Office 2011.  When I saved the document, my Finder lists the document without the .xls file extension. Why?
All other .xls documents created by Mac Office 2004 retained the .xls file extention when I migrated them over to the new MacBook Air.

I know what happened.  When I saved the document I somehow hit the Hide File Extension box.  Sorry to trouble this group. I simply resaved it w/o activating the Hide File Extension feature.
