New file server--Can InDesign be switched to new path?

We've installed a new server with new IP address and new volume name.
Is there an easy way to tell InDesign that the same folder/file structure is now to be found at the new server address (or volume name), so we won't have to relink any files within INDD documents?
Thanks!

I think I'm convinced that InDesign cannot do what I've asked.
I'm going to solve the problem by doing what I prefer not to do which is to name the new server exactly as the old one and give the new server the old server's IP address. Then ID will not know it is a new server.

  • Getting new file server. Special considerations for Revit?

    Hi all,
My office (small architecture firm) is looking to purchase a new file server. Our current one is a Mac Pro 1,1 (2006). We're Mac based and use VMWare Fusion on most workstations for our Autodesk Software. I use Bootcamp on mine. My employer is under the impression we can use a $500 Mac Mini as a replacement file server for our 10 person office, ~1tb of data, and website. We have a separate Mac Mini for email. Are there any hardware considerations I should make them aware of since we use it for Revit central models? I have a vague understanding of what hardware is prioritized for individuals workstations, but not for the file server where our central models live.

"One node is a DC, the other is a member server. "
Sounds like you should pick one of the many documents/videos available from TechNet or Microsoft Virtual Academy instead of CBT Nuggets.  They are giving you bad information.  You cannot cluster DCs.  It's that simple.  Cluster
nodes have to be members of a cluster.

I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?

It is not necessary to delete your old wireless networks first, but doing so may eliminate confusion. If you wish to do that, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button, then select your old wireless networks and delete them with the "–" (minus) button. Make sure the "Remember networks this computer has joined" remains checked.
    OK then Apply.
This prevents your Mac from searching for your previous network which will no longer exist.
A new Express creates an open wireless network that you must select before you can configure it. It appears in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Edit: If you are really using OS X 10.5.1 as shown in your profile, the above screenshot is not applicable. Instead, select the network called "Apple network nnnnnn" and then launch AirPort Utility.

You are allowed to have two machines with activated installations, so if you only had one installation, you still have the option to install on a second without doing anything further than that.  If you originally downloaded the purchase thru Adobe then you might find a download link available in your Adobe account online.  You can also download thru the following page if you can find your version:
    Download and Installation Help -
    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html
You can have the first installation deactivated to free up the activation and have it available for another machine again as well.  YOu need to contact Adobe Support thru chat for that.  For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • New M5000 server - Can't get bge0 to work in the OS

Just recently powered up a new M5000 server. Went through the setup process of setting the networking details of the management card - which I believe also works through ethernet0 (LAN#0). That is working just fine and is what I have used to access the system console. Single domain, nothing odd in the configuration.
The pre-installed Solaris sees bge0 and bge1. It also shows the ppp connection for the dscp.
if config shows a normal adapter config but without the RUNNING flag. cfgadm shows the drivers properly loaded. There are cables connected to both NIC cards. The same result, btw, on the bge1 card. The NIC's show activity LED's so there is definitely a physical connection there.
What else can I provide to get assist anyone in helping me solve this problem?
    Thanks

Hi all, I'm new to the forum
Have installed the above mentioned server running the x86 platform with Solaris 10 1/08 with broadcom ethernet adaptor cards.
My network connections are giving issues. bge0 and bge1both show physical activity and these are my configs
    # ifconfig -a

    inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
    bge0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2
    inet 192.168.1.170 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255

    bge0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 3
    inet 10.0.0.1 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 10.255.255.255
    ether 0:11:25:22:1f:27
    My default router also exists
    # vi /etc/defaultrouter
    192.168.1.254
    ~
    The hosts file
    # vi /etc/hosts
    ::1          localhost
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    192.168.1.170 hostname1      loghost
    10.0.0.1      hostname1
    ~
    ~
    And the device files
    # vi /etc/hostname.bge0
    hostname1
    ~
    ~
    # vi /etc/hostname.bge1
    hostname2
    ~
    ~
All these including restart procedures aren't working.
I dont seem to be able to get to other devices on the network yet the local TCP/IP stack behaves just OK. I can ping all the interfaces but cannot ping any device on the network.
During install too, I attempted to acquire a dhcp address via the network from a dhcp server that serves IPs to our network but failed thus proceeded to static addressing.
    Any advice please?

  • New Mini Server - Can't see volume to migrate from.

I literally just opened my mac mini server (Lion Server) and as usual the setup screens started.  Once it said I could migrate a server I proceeded with that option. However there's no volumes that the Mini Server recognizes.  I am plugged into the LAN which has our Snow Leopard server, but it doesn't see that.
Is the mini server supposed to be able to see network attached Mac computers or not?  Do I need to physically plug our Snow Leopard server into the mini? This is stange.  Just opened a new machine and can't even get past the setup.  Is there a server migration assistant?

I have not tried migrating a server in this way, but I would imagine it would be a similar process as to how Migration Assistant works.
If so, you would either need the old server drive connected as an external disk, perhaps by using FireWire Target Disk Mode. It would not apply here, but if you for example had a Mac Pro originally running Snow Leopard Server you would be able to do a similar thing when migrating to a new Mac Pro running Lion Server by fitting the old hard disk internally and then be able to migrate from it.
In your case FireWire Target Disk mode sounds like the easiest option. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661

  • Migrate User Profile Disks to new File Server

I'm looking for some guidance/best practice/advice on moving my user profile disk share. My goal is simple enough, we have a share with UPDs on a stand-alone file server. I'm in the process of configuring a scale-out file server and would like to migrate
my UPD share to that cluster once it is running smoothly. I'm running a 2012 R2 RDS farm. Is the process as simple as changing the UNC path in Server Manager and migrating the data? If so, should I copy the data then change the UNC path or the other way around?
On a related note, is there any problems of hosting the UPD share on DFS? I'm not necessarily looking to replicate the share, but it would ease a similar migration in the future if necessary as I could replicate it or use the DFS migration toolkit without
needing to alter the UNC path in the farm as the client facing path wouldn't change. Just an idea I'm toying with and would love some feedback.

I would think in a simple/flat scenario, you change the UNC path and the wizard will automatically setup the share on the target folder with the correct root permissions
then you can do a robocopy.exe /mir to move the individual UPDs over while retaining their unique permissions for each user
regarding scale out file server, you actually can't use SoFS for just a general file share workload and SoFS + DFS combination also has limited capabilities
for now, SoFS is only compatible with clustered Hyper-V, IIS, VMM and SQL workloads
you can use the old fashion clustered file server role with SMB 3.0 for the UPDs however, as 2012 now allows for proper clustered share aliases that allows you to natively use a virtual name under a clustered file share option which works nicely in your
    case
setting up DFS with the above scenario seems to be supported although I haven't done it before

  • When I open a new file I can't paint with colours. All the colours I choose change o a shade of grey

When I open a blank file I can't paint with colours as every time I choose a colour it comes up as grey. Why is this?

You might have choosen color mode as "Grayscale" in the new file dialog box. You need it to convert it into RGB. Go to Image Menu>Color Mode and select RGB there.

  • New MacPro server can run headless?

I am about to pull the trigger on a new MacPro server with Lion server.   I assume after I use a monitor/keyboard for initial setup like I have done with my Mini server, that I can put this beast in a rack and run it headless? It will not complain about no keyboard or monitor on power up?
    thanks in advance.

Yep - the system doesn't care about a monitor or keyboard to run.
Most tasks can be performed via ssh over a network connection. You also have a built-in VNC server which you can use with any of the VNC clients out there, or Apple's Remote Desktop application.

  • Append  new file to the old without reading the new file

Is there anyway to append a new file (new.txt) to the old file(old.txt) directly without using BufferedReader to read each line of the new.txt.?
Thank you very much for your input!

Look at RandomAccessFile, the length and seek methods.
If you're wanting better performance, you would need to test. I didn't check how the seek method positions to the specified location. If length() returns the EOF position, does seek() position directly to that location, or does it spin the file down from the start? And it very well might vary by os.
If anyone has additional information or can correct me, please do.

  • I just ordered an iPad 4 32gb from Amazon but sold by a store called iPadShop.  In the customer reviews there were several reports of this store selling used and refurbished iPads as new.  How can i verify mine is new and not used when it arrives.?

Ok, first time here, so forgive me if Im repeating the question.  I just ordered a NEW iPad 4 32gb from Amazon, but is actually being sold by a seller called "iPadShop". Although this seller got a high approval rating of 4.9 there were several reports of customers receiving used and refurbished iPads but sold as new.  Once I receive mine how can I verify it is new.  Also, even the ones that were new were purchased by this seller and then resold, which shortened the life of the 1 year warranty offered by Apple..?

If you just ordered it, I suggest you cancel your order as soon as possible. If you can't contact Amazon, call your credit card company and cancel payment on that. Why go through worrying about the ipad you are paying for as new? If it's to save money, then that can be defeated if you get a used or refurbished ipad with a less than full one year warranty. You'll be dealing with the ipad shop's return policy which could mean that once you open it, it's yours, unlike when you buy from Apple you have a full 14 days to return it even if you've opened it.
I looked at Amazon and did not see a price difference. If cost led you to buy from Amazon, what are you saving?
I suggest you buy it directly from Apple. If cost is an issue, consider buying a refurbished ipad from the Apple online Refurbished store. I would not buy a refurbished anything from anywhere but the Apple online refurb store.
The ipad 4 32 gb is $499.00 refurbished - a savings of $100.00 vs. a new one. We bought two ipads last year and one as a gift this year and they have been great!
All ipads sold in the Apple refurb store come with new front and back covers, a brand new battery, a full one year warranty, and in case it matters, come in a new white Apple box like all ipads do. Earphones and charger are also included. You can also get the new Apple Care +, which insures up to three breakages (damaged glass, water damage, etc.) in two years.
    Hope this helps.

When I access a windows files server with the mac I am adding .apple (hidden files). How can I prevent this?

Look for a program called BlueHarvest. I'm not sure if it still works with Mountain Lion.
I believe your file server can be set up to handle the metadata files, but I suppose that would depend on the Server software and your IT staff.

  • Decommissioned a file server, but every mobile account in the place is still trying to connect to it on login!

A couple of months ago we decommissioned the 10.4.11 xserve that was serving as our LDAP server and home directory server for mobile accounts.  We migrated all of that to a newer 10.6.8 xserve.  It was a fairly rough migration, but we've pretty much sorted it out except for one last annoyance: when you look at System Preferences->Accounts->Login Items for all of our mobile accounts, every single client is still trying to mount an afp share on the old server.  Logging in takes FOREVER because the connection needs to time out, so now my users are no longer logging out/in as often as they should, and so their Home Sync's are getting old.
When you go to the client's Preferences, the line referencing the old server share is still there, but the minus sign is greyed out so the item cannot be deleted.
The Kind is listed as "unknown" and there is a grey warning triangle next to it.
This is clearly some sort of template/Preference that is hardcoded to the old name, and whatever file this is got moved to the new server (which has a different name and different numeric IP address.)  Because even the BRAND NEW users that I have created since after "pdc04.hgbc.com" disappeared are trying to log in to the non-existent share on the non-existent server, too!
I have tried running grep on the entire disk on one of the clients looking for the string "pdc04", and updated everything that I found using vi directly on the files.  I have tried running grep on select directory trees on the new file server looking for pdc04.  In my grep on the client, I found the string in
         /Library/Managed Preferences/user/loginwindow.plist
         /Library/Managed Preferences/user/complete.plist
but searching all of the logingwindow.plist and complete.plist files on the new server comes up with nothing.
Does anyone have any idea where the template or preference or plist is on the server so that I can delete or update the file with the new host name?

I think that Grant is on the right track -- but the problem is that whatever file that pdc04's Server Manager wrote into is not available to pdc's Server Manager to edit or even display.
We upgraded mostly by turning off the G5 10.4 xserve and unplugging the fiber-channel RAID (with user accounts on it) and plugging the RAID into a fiber-channel card on the new (to us) Nehalem 10.6 xserve, which we did after using Migration Assistant between the machines.  Then we had various and sundry problems, and we ended up moving all of the mobile account directories to the internal RAID on the new server.
Clearly there is a file somewhere that acts as a template for mobile accounts and it refers to the old machine but its been moved to the new machine.
Only two of the mobile accounts have directories in the /Library/Managed Preferences folder.  One of them, ironically, is mine, and my account hasn't worked right since we went to the new server.
