"new folder" to my current location workflow

hi, I'm brand new to Automator and am looking fro some help trying to do what i want. I need to create the same set of new (empty) folders in multiple locations. Trying to use Automator so i don't have to make 5 new folders and rename each one. (I'll be doing a few hundred of these). Ideally i'd like Automator to do this based on the folder that i'm in. Is there anyway to set the destination for the make new folder action to my current location?

ok. sort of nevermind my last post. i figured out that i have to enter the name of the folder that i want the new folders to go into in the "New Text Variable" field. However this kind of defeats the purpose of what i'm trying to do because i'd like to put a set of new folders into many different existing folders with different names. is there a way to call up an easy prompt to enter that different text, so i don't have to have automator running, or as i was originally hoping, a way to point to the currently selected folder without having to enter it's name.

I integrated MS CRM 2013 with SharePoint foundation 2010 for document management. integration works.
Now I need to create several subfolders and set proper permission on each folder. So, I created a workflow to do it automatically. It works when I manually create a new folder under SharePoint account, or I manually run it for an account folder. Thus, sharepoint
workflow works as I expected.
However, when I access Account's document from CRM (first time), sharepoint would create an folder for this account. In this case, the workflow doesn't work. and it show error: "Failed on Start(retrying)".
Anyone has experience on similar issues or have clue how to trace this error?

From your description, the issue might be related to the workflow created by visual studio.
Could you please try to locate error message in workflow report or ULS log:

I am trying to move my iphoto and itunes to an external hard drive to free up space on my macbook...i have followed the steps to the change itunes media folder location (chosen external hard drive) but my new folder is greyed out so cant continue ?help?

I need to free up space on my macbook pro as hard drive is full!! So with 20 000 photos/video clips and itunes I would like to move this to a external hard drive!

Yes external drive shows up in finder on desk top and can change to in the media folder location thing!
My external hard drive is a WD Elements. I have no idea about permissions to the external? Do i Have to format external hard drive to a mac?
I am trying to follow the steps on the apple support page to transfer files (consolidate library etc) just cant get further down steps as the new folder option is greyed out!

Event handler if new File added in current folder

I'm just trying to write a little jsx script for Bridge CS6.
How can I implement an event handler that will react if the user adds a new thumbnail (new file) to the current folder in bridge.
I've tested it with this code, but it doesn't work:

Have a look at the function group SFTP. Use function module ftp_command to create the directory sending the mkdir command.
Use the where-used list to find sample programs.

Prompt for New Folder Name During Running Workflow?

I've looked everywhere and cant find an answer for this. I'm trying to create an workflow that will copy the pictures I have selected and put them in a new folder inside a folder I've already created. I want the the workflow to prompt me to give a name for the new folder I'm creating. Can it do this?

Thanks for your reply. I´m glad, that it works as expected.
So I will try my best -- as a non nativ english speaker-- to give you a short explanation of what is doing Automator.
First of all, read the Automator Help. It is good!
Then, when you create a Workflow, have a look at the Results of every Action (from the Result Button)
Also there is an inspector, that will allow you to follow the Workflow.
Most of the Actions based on AppleScript ans Shell Scripts, they work like this:
Take an Input (if there is one) and return the Output
In your case:
Make a new Folder in Folder x
Result (Output) = Path to Folder
Show this action when the workflow runs = so you can set the new folder on the run
Set the Value of a Variable
The Input is the path to the new Folder, that will be needed later.
We don´t want to have an Output for the next Action.
(That would be still the path to the new Folder)
Get the selected Finder Items
In the Result they will be listed.
Copy this items to the new Folder
We need the path to the new folder, that was created before. So we use the Variable with the stored path

I was facing the same issue with my Ipad - wifi.
I have found a simple solution for this but it needs you to have a iphone and period of one week.
if wifi router's mac address is not registered with apple's location services server, the location services on Ipad-wifi does not work, so we need to register wifi router's mac address to apple's server in first place.
If you have a iphone, then try to install 'Find my iphone' app. install it on your ipad also.
Initially when you login to this app with both iphone and ipad, only your Iphone will show location as it has GPS location. and your ipad location will not be reflected on this app.
If you continue to find your ipad using this app on you Iphone, and using your home wifi router, eventually after few days you would be able to track you ipad location, because your wifi router's mac address get registered on apple's server with its gps co-odridnates.
This has worked for my on 3 different wifi routers in last 8 months.

When I create a new folder, one of my existing folders in another location is being renamed to the new folder's name.

This has happened twice in the past week. When I create a new folder nested inside two other existing folders, another folder in another branch is renamed to the newly-created folder's name. The folder that is being renamed is inside the Links folder. (I am not expecting an answer. I cannot find another place where I can report an issue with the browser.)

That is a problem with the WiFi-only iPads. Location is determined by the routers "within reach" of your iPad. There apparently is a database somewhere that tracks the location of routers and that is used to determine the location of the iPad. It's been known to produce some really cockamamie results.
In my case, it was off by a reliable 200 yards for maybe the first year that I owned the iPad. Then it mysteriously began to recognize my actual location.

How do I move a picture so that it can be used in multiple projects without removing it from current location

I am organizing several hockey pictures and I am trying to make various projects from the pictures and sometimes I want the same picture in more than one project/album/etc.. Each time I duplicate the version in attempts to move just one of the versios, both are moved to new location and removed from current location. I would greatly appreciate help. Thank you

Think this:
Projects are _storage_ containers.
Albums are _viewing_ containers.
(In mind keep this: The naming of "Projects" is the worst interface decision made by Aperture's designers.)
The Image that is created when you import a digicam file is _stored_ in one and in only one container.
You can _view_ the Image in as many viewing containers as you want.
Store them by shoot unless you have a better, complete, workflow. Don't ever move them from their storage container, except to delete them.
View them by _output project (small "p")_. Create as many of these as you need.

How do i create a new folder in finder

how do i create a newfolder in finder. whenever i click new folder it creates a new folder in whatever folder is highlighted. i need a new folder altogether.. also how do i give that folder a new icon

The information below is in the Finder's Help menu. Your problem creating a new folder may be due to your not having the correct window activated.
*Creating a folder*
You can create folders to organize your files and applications.
In a Finder window, open the location where you want to create the new folder.
Choose File > New Folder.
To give the folder a new name, select it, then click its current name. Type a name for the folder and press Return.
If the New Folder command is dimmed, you do not have permission to create a folder inside the folder you opened.
*Changing the icon of a file or folder*
You can use custom icons for any file or folder in the Finder. You can create your own icons or download icons from websites on the Internet. Once you have custom images, you can replace icons for items.
In the Finder, select a file whose icon you want to use.
Choose File > Get Info.
Click the icon in the Info window and choose Edit > Copy.
Select the file whose icon you want to replace and choose File > Get Info.
Select the icon in the Info window and choose Edit > Paste.

Creating a New Folder on the Dock

I recently purchased CS3 for my computer and am looking to consolidate them into one folder for my dock. Under the applications window all the separate adobe programs have their own folder so I can only bring them down to the dock individually. I want to put all 8 programs that are currently on my dock into one folder that is located on my dock. I would also like to attach an image to that new folder instead of the plain folder look. The most important thing though is to just figure out how to add a folder to my dock. If I create a new folder on the desktop and try to drag it onto the dock it doesn't work. Any help??

create a folder on the desktop (or any other place on the HD), put aliases to your 8 programs into that folder and drag the folder to the right side of the dock (to the right of the divider).

Creating a new folder starts up import dialog box...

When I click the plus sign on the folders panel, it takes me to the create folder dialog where I can browse to the location of the new folder.
Sometimes, after clicking OK, LR then starts up the import dialog box with a heap of images to import which I then need to cancel. I should have checked where the images were from but have not thought to do so before this post.
Anyway, is there any functionality in LR that should import images when a new folder is created? I think this happens when I don't have a folder selected...not sure.. away from LR at the moment.
As an aside, I wish you could click the + on the folders panel and LR would create a subfolder at the selected location with the name ready to edit, rather than going to a new dialog and having to browse to the location.

I can't duplicate this. Whether I have highlighted an existing LR folder or not, clicking the "+" brings up the create folder dialog, I browse to a location and create a subfolder. That folder then becomes a LR folder. If I do have a current LR folder highlighted, the process (or just right clicking on the folder name and choose "Create Folder") brings up the create folder dialog with the current LR folder as the parent. I can create a new folder and it will become a LR subfolder of the highlighted one.

Actually, the new dialog that opens for me (as described above) places me in the selected folder - all I do is click the create folder button in that window and a new subfolder is made. I think the reason LR won't just create a new subfolder without going to a new dialog is that the folders panel lists the "LR folders" which are a parallel universe to the "real folders" on your drive. Perhaps the LR engineers thought that by providing you with the browser/creator dialog, they were giving you more control. Who knows.

Creating & Bootstrapping a new Folder.

At our design firm, we use an inhouse naming convention for organizing jobs. jobs are found in Clients/ClientName/CN100/ CN being short for the Client's name and the job number). We make these folders a lot, and have to add the required subfolders by hand (Clients/ClientName/CN100/_concepts, _images, _print, etc.) and I was trying to set up an automator action to ask the user which client folder to create the job folder in, ask for the job number, and then create a job folder with the number with the subfolders already in place. Workflow would look like this:
Choose a Client's Folder
Ask for the Job Number
Create a folder named the Job Number provided
Create subfolder in that job folder for:
_concepts, _print, _PDFs, _previousVersions, _images
I can kind of do it with therecord feature, but it's kind of slow. The "Ask for Finder Items" doesn't give me a vriable to work with as a path for new folders.... any thoughts?

this is very easy to do with a "run apple script action" but you can actually do it without any apple script using just automator variables.
it should go something like this:
1. get selected finder items (or ask for finder items). this will choose a client's folder.
2. set value of variable "client's folder" (add a variable to the workflow for that)
3. make new folder. (control-click on it and select "ignore input"). In this action click on options and check the box "show this action when the flow runs".
For the location where to make this folder drag the variable you've just made. when the flow runs it will give you a popup to enter the name of the folder to be created. enter the job's number.
4. set value of variable "job folder" ( make another variable for that) and it will be set to the output of the previous action.
5. make new folder (again check the box to ignore input). for the location put the variable "job folder" and for name "_concepts".
6,7,8 make new folder actions for trhe other subfolders of the "job folder".

Why can't I create a BI Web Part Page in the folder I am currently in

When I am in my Report Library\Finance and select New Document>BI Web Part Page it takes me to a form with only three options Name, Layout and Save Location. Makes sense, but why doesn't the save location offer "Current Location" as an option.
Right now I have to save to "Library" which puts the page in the root and then move it via windows explorer.

From your description, you might have a “Finance” folder in the Report Library, then you want to create a web part page and save in this “Finance” folder by default.
I tried to reproduce like this: I go into the “Finance” folder, then create a web part page, in the “Location” group, it set the “Folder” as the current folder.
What if you create a new Report Library and do the test again, will the “Location” be set as the current folder?
