New incarnation of database and  rc_database

Hello!
Have I correctly understood that after the registration of new incarnation of database in recovery catalog
I should see new row in rc_database ?
Thanks and regards,
Pavel

Hello,
After you register your database with the catalog database, you can get the information of the registered database using the view "rc_database".
To query the incarnation details of the newly registered database, you can use the view "rc_database_incarnation".
Hope it helps !! If you feel that your questions have been answered, then please consider closing your questions by marking them as answered. Please keep the forum clean !

  • Adding a new row to database and then modify it

    Hi there,
Im pretty sure this is a simple matter but i am new to JDBC,
i have an application where i create a new member in a database and then want to modify part of that members info (weather he pays for something monthly or annually)
I can add the new member easily, and I create a unique ID and place him in the db.unigue ID assigned by Access db.
Then i want to bring the same member back and alter his data, since I am inserting new data there is no resultsSet returned (am i right about this?)
so how can I get the same member back and alter his data, or at least find out what his ID was so i can do a query for the same ID?
    cheers
    D

because you talk about creating new row then I assume you know how to invoke the executeUpdate() method. You can change the field in your table with the UPDATE command. The sintaxt of UPDATE following your database system sintaxt. If you want to query the data in the table you can use the method excuteQuery(). i.e. executeQuery("SELECT * from tableName").

I have a database of names. When I go to the database and pull up names I right click on the option "Open in new tab". I would like to bring up 200 names and do the same function simultaaneously to them like, add a vote to their total individual vote count. Is this possible?

I ended up reformating the drive as FAT32 because I still need to use it on my Windows 98SE system also. I did have a problem with the allocation size. I wanted to use 512 bytes but it kept failing so I used the default size(8192 bytes) and then it worked fine. I didn't think there would be a problem formatting as NTFS but since you are having problems I just tried it. It failed at 512 bytes allocation size so I tried again using 4096 bytes, the default, as the allocation size and it failed again. It looks like these drives will not format as NTFS.
Also, I think I figured out what's going on with the ReadyBoost problem. As I said initially it wouldn't work with ReadyBoost then after I had 12GB of data on the drive the ReadyBoost feature started working. After I deleted all the files it quit working again. After doing some reading on the net about Flash drives and ReadyBoost problems it appears that the memory chips on my Lenovo Flash drive are mixed with both fast memory chips that work fine with ReadyBoost and slower memory  chips that are too slow for ReadyBoost. Apparently, after I fill up the portion of memory with data that uses the slow chip(s) then ReadyBoost works fine with the fast chip(s).  I also verified the Flash drives read and write memory speeds using Vista's Event Viewer. To work with ReadyBoost the Flash drive has to read at a minimum of 2.5MB/s (for 4KB random reads) and write at a minimum of  1.75MB/s (for 512KB random writes).
Let me know what you find out.

  • Creating A New Oracle Database And Sql Developer

    Hi,
I'm a newbie to Oracle and and a not so newbie to Sql Server and Visual Studio.
I am trying to learn Oracle on my local machine. I want to create a new Oracle Database and start learning from there.
I have downloaded sql developer, the data modeler, and the Oracle Client. Could someone please provide some guidance on how to create a Oracle Database?
From the responses, it appears that none of the items I mentioned actually creates a database. Sql Server provides a free download, also a developer version for a minimal fee. What specific Oracle product would be best to provide this type of service?
    Thanks,

Edited by: user8948230 on Jan 7, 2010 9:50 AMIn addition to downloading and installing the database software to create a database, might I also suggest you start getting familiar with the documentation.
Learning where to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to tahiti.oracle.com. Drill down to your product and version.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are reference manuals. Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
After you have familiarized yourself with what is available, read the "2-Day DBA" manual to help get you started.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Look in your alert log and find all the non-default initialization parms listed at instance startup. Then read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Create your own Value Object (Data Transfer Object) in Java with a structure similar to this and map the fields returned from the database to the fields of that object (preferably using SEtT methods).
    Hope this helps.

My SSD with a running Dreamweaver CS6 version crashed. Now a new SSD is installed and every time I try to reinstall DW CS6 the error " inconsistency in the installation programm database" (in german terms) occurs. I tried to delete everything concerning to CS6, rebootet and so on - nothing worked. Two hours later I tried to install DW 5.5 - that worked. Afterwards I tried again to install 6.0 - without success. Can anybody help?

Thank you for your answer. I could not find caps.db.
Meanwhile I solved the problem as follows: I searched for "dreamweaver" everywhere an deleted everything I could find. Then I searched for "CS6" and did the same. I guess there were around 20 or more places where I deleted directorys or files. Suddenly the installation did not stop at 2 % what it always did before and the installation was a success :-) It cost me more than 4 hours to figure that out and I did not find a really helping hint somewhere. Adobe itself I could not contact because I could not find an email adress or a phone number - poor support for such an expensive software. For luck I did not have to deliver something just in time. Lacking a useful support is a really poor, poor attitude of Adobe... I think I will not buy anymore Adobe products - it could cost too much of my time... :-(

"DatabaseRestrictionFilter" and "RecipientRestrictionFilter" parameters cannot be used together.

    ServerRestrictionFilter,   RecipientRoot, DatabaseList, or
ServerList   parameters. For a list of filterable database properties, see

    RecipientRestrictionFilter
The RecipientRestrictionFilter parameter specifies the filter to   apply to recipient objects. Only recipient objects that match the filter are   included in the scope. If you use the

  • New HP EVA6000 SAN and now bad database performance problems

    Hello,
we changed our SAN Hardware to a HP EVA6000 and moved all Data to there.
It is intended that storagesystem is for all Servers (File/Print, Exchange, Oracle Databases and MSSQL Databases).
According to the best practice papers of HP we created one big discgroup (fata harddiscs) and created virtual discs for our servers.
After doing this the database performance was terrible bad!
Especially the multiple random IO is absolutely worse.
As a first countermeasure we created a second discgroup on faster harddiscs and moved the database contents to there. We analyzed the IO and moved several database file to different virtual discs.
The performance is better now, but still not like the 4 year old SAN System!
Of course we questioned HP and even let them do a performance analysis but up to now we have no solution... The performance analysis report will be available on thursday.
Does anybody had the same experience or how did you configure the Database and EVA SAN to work with an appropiate performance?

    Hi,
I'm not an Oracle person, but do work with EVA SAN's.
Your 48 FATA disk, disk group is capable of 4800 I/O operations per second [48 x 100] but the disks are only rated for 30% duty cycle and spin at 7200 rpm.
The 16 FC drive Disk Group I/O operations rating depends on the speed the disks spin at. 10K rpm disks are rated at 130 I/O per sec [2080 for the group] and if they are 15K rpm disks then 170 I/O per sec [2720 for the group]. Both are rated for 100% duty cycle.
I seem to recall having have read somewhere that Oracle prefers to have it's logs on separate storage to it's data.
If your shelves had the spare disk slots I would put in 72 GB 15K rpm disks up to the capacity required {+ overhead } + head room for reasonably predictable growth over the anticpated life of the equipment.
Here is a link to the HP Best Practice guide for EVA 4/6/8000's
    http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-2787ENW.pdf
I hope this helps you understand the storage that you are working with a bit better. The old saying of "more heads make for better performance" is still true, however budget can have some affect in performance. ;-)

  • New to SQL databases - trying to install on my PC to work locally and go through a course

I have installed SQL Server Express (SqlLocalDB.msi) and SQL Management Studio (SQLManaementStudio_64_ENU) but can't seem to get to a place where I can create a database. I have a .BAK file that is a database I want to restore/recover in order to check
    and query against.

Are you able to open SSMS and connect to your instance of LocalDB?  By default, the connection string should be (LocalDb)\v11.0.  Once connected, you can then right-click on Databases, click on Restore Database and go through the wizard.
In the wizard, click on Device, click the ..., and navigate to the .bak file you want to restore.

  • Open standby read-write then flashback leaves standby in new incarnation?

Oracle 10.2.0.4 on RHEL. In February, we followed Note:805438.1 to open the standby for read-write for a test (after creating a restore point). A few minutes later, we did flashback. It ran fine ever since, receiving and applying archivelogs. Recently we noticed it stopped applying redo and this started in late June. Then I followed Note:836986.1 to roll forward the standby with incremental backup from the primary. During this process, it was found that the standby was in incarnation 2:
    RMAN> list incarnation;
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    List of Database Incarnations
DB Key Inc Key DB Name DB ID STATUS Reset SCN Reset Time
    1 1 ORACP2 4102395133 PARENT 1 20080407 14:13:17
    2 2 ORACP2 4102395133 CURRENT 44328058841 20110223 08:33:18
The solution is to set it to 1, because the primary is (and always was) 1:
    reset database to incarnation 1;
The DBA team don't recall making any significant change to the standby since the February test and alert.log doesn't show anything relevant. Will "open standby read-write then flashback" leave the standby in the new incarnation, instead of setting it back to the original incarnation? We checked another database which has a standby we did the same test on. The standby is back to the original incarnation as the primary is. So there must be something special about this database.
Secondly, if the standby stayed in a newer incarnation, how could it continue to apply redo received from the primary in its original incarnation?

Thanks. Bug 6035495 is related but not exactly my case. My 10.2.0.4 standby database alert.log does not have "orphan" or "ORA-19909". But the solution is the same.
The Oracle support analyst working on my case referred me to this new note
Rman-06571: Datafile 1 Does Not Have Recoverable Copy (Doc ID 1336872.1)
    (maybe he wrote it)
That's exactly what happened to me. Although flashing back the standby sets its current incarnation back (to the same as the primary), if you later run "catalog start with" on the standby, that command will change the incarnation to the later one! Since I was following Note:836986.1 to roll forward the standby, "catalog start with" was run and these lines appeared
WARNING: catalog online log file +fra/ORACP2SB/ONLINELOG/group_52.2882.708107363 is not supported

It appears that when "catalog" detects another (must be newer I guess?) incarnation, it blindly sets the standby database to that one. The analyst calls it "implicit catalog". It may as well be called "implicit incarnation change of catalog" or "side effec of catalog".
