Re: SQL plan baseline parameters setting in oracle 11g env
Hi,
btw how does the Optimizer work if setting are as mentioned:
optimizer_capture_sql_plan_baselines FALSE FALSE
optimizer_use_sql_plan_baselines TRUE TRUE
abd there are no sql_plan_baselines at all ?
Thanks,
Gyuribtw how does the Optimizer work if setting are as mentioned:
optimizer_capture_sql_plan_baselines FALSE FALSE
optimizer_use_sql_plan_baselines TRUE TRUE
abd there are no sql_plan_baselines at all ?When there is no sql_plan_baselines at all then there will be no plans captured into the SPB (SQL Plan Baseline) providing your above two parameters setting.
However, if there is already a sql baseline for a given sql statement then any execution of the same sql statement (with the same force matching signature) which results into a plan that is not into the SPM baseline, will be captured and will be given a enabled and not accepted status.

Calculating Kernel parameters for Oracle 11g R2 db on solaris 10u9
Hi Everyone,
I have query regarding calculating the kernel parameters for deploying oracle 11g R2 db on solaris 10 v 5.10 update 09 machine , we have Ram size of 64gb.
My question is how to calculate shared memory ,shared memory identifiers, semaphores, semaphores identiifiers for creating resource control for the project(user.oracle).
And how to fine out the available semphore values allocated in system..
Thanks in Advance.

Oracle 11g : Directory and UTL_FILE - ORA-29280: invalid directory path
Hi,
I have Oracle 11g server on a UNIX box and im accessing it through an Oracle client on a windows box.
Im new to File operations in Oracle 11g. Have couple of questions;
1. Can i create a directory in Oracle using CREATE DIRECTORY statment which points to my local machine (windows: on which Oracle client is running).
for e.g. CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY c_temp AS 'd:\test';
2. If i can create such a directory, can i use the UTL_FILE.fopen command to open a file from the windows machine and append some text to it.
Or
We can only create direcories that are present in the Oracle Server?
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks.

We can only create direcories that are present in the Oracle Server? That's what is recommended for various reasons. -
Regarding initialization parameters
Hai all,
Can anybody please help me regarding this initialization parameters like
1.what is correct value (how to find)
2. indetail about each parameter
1._optimizer_mjc_enabled
2.max_dump_file_size
3.optimizer_index_caching
4.optimizer_index_cost_adj
5.parallel_execution_message_size
6.parallel_max_servers
7.parallel_threads_per_cpu
8.processes
9.sessions
10.shared_pool_reserved_sizeFollowing link would be the best place to get the details about all initialization parameters.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_2013.htm#i2154767
As regards to the best value, most of them would be your database specific. Start from oracle defaults for hints and go from there. -

New To Oracle.. Needs Help:: Conversion from SQL Server to Oracle 11g
I am new to Oracle 11g and badly need the conversion of SQL Server Functions to Oracle.. Sample Pasted Code not working .. end with error.. pls help

END;
LAST FUNCTION ENDs WITH ERROR
Error(13,7): PL/SQL: ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item2. The major purpose is to get a simplest way to create a parameterized function who can return a table like output. 2nd function has no use instead i was testing the result of First Function like thisIf you just want to select from a select, you should use a view not a function.
1. which program is more help ful for writing and executing queries bcoz after using Query Analyzer of Microsoft It seems difficult to work on SQL Developer.
sqlplus? If you are having difficulty learning new tools because of an old one you used, probably best to forget the old one and concentrate on learning the new one because it will be different. This goes for the database itself also.
2. Can DMLs be used within a Function.Yes, you just can't execute the function in another SQL statement if it modifies data and this is a good thing.
3. Can temporary tables be used within a function.Unfortunately yes, but they shouldn't be unless you are in a slowest application competition.
5. Each Function which is a Table Function must be accompanied with Type Definitions?? its a bit longer way of doing the things than SQL ServerThat is why it is better to use views instead, is there any reason you want a select that you can select from inside a function?
SQL Server for last 9 years thats why i refer this toolThat is not in itself a problem, if you try and do what you did in SQLServer in Oracle, that will be a problem though. -

Looking at the New Edition By Tom Kyte

You really need to dig-n the Oracle® Database New Features Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2):

Hope that helps.

1Z0-050 Oracle 11g New Features for Administrators
Which release are the exam 1Z0-050 - Oracle 11g New Features for Administrators, release 1 or release 2?
I need to study Oracle University Material Release 1 or Release 2?Hi,
I have a question too.
I am 10g certified and looking to take the 11g New Features For Administrators course in the new year.
Previously when I certifed from 8i to 9i and then to 10g it was only required to take the exam and the course was optional although my company sends me anyway.
Looking on Oracles website it seems to be that to do the 11g New Features you now have also have to attend another instructor led course. I have posted a link.
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getlppage?page_id=212&path=DBAU
Can someone confirm if this is the case and that Oracle have changed the format of the New Features upgrade path,
cheers -
What new features in Oracle 11g can Apps 11.5.10.2 benefit from ?
hi there,
we run Apps 11.5.10.2 on Solaris 10. I'm thinking of upgrading the RDBMS version from 10.2.0.4 --> 11.1.0.6 and I was wondering if anyone can reccomend some good features within the new 11g database to make use of.
I'm aware of :
- advanced compression
- database replay (real application testing).
Does anything else spring to mind ?
many thanks

Thanks and Regards,
Khurram1) Possible topic changes between beta and production.
2) When reviewed for 11gR2 rather than 11gR1 ... it is possible, but unlikely, there could have been minor topic changes.
3) IMHO It is unlikely this exam will have further topic changes from those currently shown on the exam page.
( Please note one other exam (117) has possibly recently had issues with not display all topics) ).
Suggest you give more reasons for your question before I will spend any time investigating further, i am pressed for time at the moment.Hi bigdelboy,
Thanks for quick reply. I am going to appear in this exam at this weekend. What basically I wanna ask is that the questions of this exam will be same as when one of my friends appeared 2 months ago?? , or the whole paper/questions could be changed this time ?? I know that the questions came randomly from a set of pool. So is there any possibility that the Oracle has been changed the whole set of pool of questions recently? -
