New iphone, dead mac

first the old mac dies with all my lists files etc. taken to mac store, hard drive problems, suggests recycling....have new fast imac. Any way to retrieve old lists, contacts from old iphone to mac then to new iphone?

This is one of the reasons why creating and maintaining a backup of all your import data stored on your computer's hard drive stored on an external drive or some other external media is so important. The iPhone is not designed nor intended to be a backup storage device.
The sync process for contact info is a bi-directional or true sync process with the supported application on your computer, and the same for calendar events and Safari bookmarks.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book and one unique calendar event in iCal on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data with the Address Book and iCal, which you want to select.
Regarding your iTunes library, was the Apple store able to recover any data from your old Mac's hard drive such as your iTunes library or any other important data?

  • New iPhone Dead MBP

I bought a new iPhone last week and set it up on my MacBook Pro. I downloaded several applications from iTunes, synced my calendar and contacts from my old cell phone using Outlook. So everything works great with my iPhone, except my MacBook Pro died, (harddrive is dead)so I bought the new MacBook. Is there anyway I can set up my iPhone with my new MacBook? I really don't want to upload all the application and outlook info again.

If you don't have files backed up elsewhere, not much you can really do.
You can re-download the apps (iTunes will tell you that you already bought them and not charge you) but any data in them will have to be put back in.
Syncing with a new outlook will merge contacts so what is on phone will move back to computer. Same for calendar etc info.

  • Trying to use iSync with new iPhone using Mac OSX 10.4.11

Is this operating system to old for iSync to work?? Followed the instructions for connecting iPhone / iMac and nothing happens in iTunes.

iSync has nothing to do with syncing the iPhone. iSync is only for non-Apple mobile devices.
The minimum Mac system requirements for the iPhone are:
    • Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
    • Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later
    • iTunes 8.2 or later
You'd probably be better off asking in one the dedicated iPhone forums starting here:

  • New iPhone 5 Mac OX 10.5.8 can't use my iPhone on iTunes, can't update iTunes.

    Hi,
I have just purchased an iPhone 5 but when I went to connect it to my Macbook (2008 - OX 10.5.8) I saw I needed to update iTunes, when I went to do this I saw I couldn't because my Mac is too old to support Itunes 11. So I have a dilemma, even though my macbook is only 4 years old.
Is there a way around this issue? It is my only computer and it obviously has all my music and contacts and well, everything.
    Thanks!

If it is 4 years old is it an Intel based MacBook?  If so, all you need to do is upgrade your operating system from 10.5 to Snow Leopard which is 10.6 and once you have done this you can upgrade iTunes and connect your phone.
Contact the Apple store and they should be able to send you a Snow Leopard disc either for free or for a small amount and then upgrade your system and then you can upgrade iTunes and every other upgrade from there is disc free and will be done through the Mac App Store.
If your Mac is not an Intel based Mac then you won't be able be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard and in this case you are looking at buying a new computer, however, a 2008 MacBook should be Intel based so you should be okay.
The iPhone 5 box does make it clear and the iPhone 5 is only compatible with Intel based Macs running Snow Leopard and then iTunes 7.

  • Dead Mac. Can I update iPhone to IOS5 on another machine?

I've got a dead Mac that held my iTunes account. All content is safe in external drives. I am overseas and not getting a new Mac for a couple of months, but would like to upgrade my iPhone and iPad to IOS5. I've got another computer (Win7) that I could use to accomplish this, but do not want to wipe these phones in the process. What are my options at this point?

Actually, you can burn a DVD or USB (8GB) thumb drive and let him boot and install from it. Or, you can actually run the InstallESD.dmg file from his machine. I've done both and Lion installs.
Personally, I would burn a DVD or thumb drive so you always have it.
Burn the InstallESD.dmg to a bootable DVD.
Launch Disk Utility and click the Burn button
Select the InstallESD.dmg file from your desktop as the image to burn. Insert a blank DVD and wait for the the image to be burned.
Burn the InstallESD.dmg to a bootable USB thumb drive.
Open Disk Utility and drag the InstallESD.dmg file to the left side pane. Go to the Partition tab ad select 1 Partition from the drop down menu. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) on the left. Click the Options button under the partition table and choose GUID Partition Table. You will need this to make the drive bootable on a Mac. Hit the Apply button when ready to format the drive (it will erase everything on the drive).
Click on the Restore tab and drag the InstallESD.dmg file to the Source. Drag the USB partition to the Destination. Hit the Restore button and it will create the bootable USB drive with the OS X Lion installer

  • How do I replace someone else's Mac ID with my own? Bought iPhone second hand. Previous owner re-set the phone but his ICloud account stayed on now my phone. He uses his macID on his new iPhone now?? Any ideas, as this issue is blocking my access to iTune

How do I replace someone else's Mac ID with my own?
Bought iPhone second hand on TradeMe.
Previous owner re-set the phone but his ICloud account stayed on now my phone. He uses his AppleID on his new iPhone now and, understandably, does not want to give me his password. Any ideas?? Please.
This issue is blocking my access to iTunes and any other file from my home computer. It keeps on telling me that I have to autorise my computer to pass on files, yet, it seems, for all this to happen, I need to get logged in through the phone's Apple ID. This of course is different to my one on my computer - and I have no password for it.
This phone is not stolen!! I payed still a fair bit for it. Am still in contact with the previous owner. He doesn't know how to fix the problem either.
    Would appreciate any suggestion ????
    Thanks
    SamSings

    Settings>general>resets>erase all content and settings.
That will put it back to its out of the box state. Set it up with your own apple Id.

If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
    that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I got a new iPhone (upgraded from a 4 to a 5S) and now I am not getting iMessages on my Mac. How can I make it so I get iMessages on my Mac again?

When I bought my new iPhone, I stopped getting iMessages to my computer. Before I got my 5S, iMessages came straight through to my Mac, as well as my phone. Now they only go to my phone. How can this be fixed? I am using a MacBook Pro (Retina) which is up-to-date with all software updates.
Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thank you!

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

  • How can I sync a new Iphone 4s with an old 10.4.11 OS mac that can't update to the new version of itunes?

I have a Mac OS 10.4.11 that can't update to the newest version of Itunes. It does not recognize my new Iphone 4s. Is there other any way I can sync my phone? Apple support recommended that I update my Itunes from 9.2 to the new version but it won't install.

You cannot use an iPhone 4S with iTunes 9; you must have iTunes 10.5 or later, and that will indeed not run on Mac OS X 10.4. You'll need to upgrade your computer's OS to at least Mac OS X 10.5.8.
If, as Allan requested, you tell us your specific model of Mac, we can tell you what options you would have as regards compatible OS X versions.
    Regards.

  • I have all of my contacts on my new iPhone, but none in my address book on my mac, and I can't get them to sync. Can someone help?

I had a bunch of junk entries in the address book on the mac, so I never synced the 2 when I had an iPhone 3GS. I got an iPhone 4 and even after deleting everything in the bunk address book, wasn't able to sync the iPhone 3GS's contacts (it had them all under a group for my my expired MobileMe account). So I got the iDrive Contacts app and back them up out there then ported them down to the new iPhone 4.
    Confusing yet?
So now I have all of my contacts on the new phone (whew!) but I still can't get them into my address book on the mac. What in the world am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for your help!!
    Kim

Connect your iPhone 4 to your Mac.  iTunes should open.  Look on the left, you should see "Kim's iPhone" or something similar.  Click on it.  Then look at the top of the iTunes window, click on "Info".  You can tick the box to sync your contacts from here.  There are also options to sync with the cloud, with MobileMe, Google, Yahoo, etc, which allow automatic wireless syncing.  Be careful here though, it's very easy to accidentally duplicate your contacts!

I want to set up my new iPhone 4s on my mac but my iPhone 3GS is sync with my pc how do I get my all my stuff of the 3GS on to the iPhone 4

You should be able to sync your 3GS to your computer and make a backup.  Then connect your iPhone 4S and restore from a backup.  This should effectively move all your data to your new device.  Report back if you have any problems.
If you are wanting to move our data from a Windows machine to your Mac, just let us know.
