New itunes crashes my 64 bit Vista system

I have the immediately prior version, 9.0.2.25, and it installed perfectly and has been working reasonably well (some problems with synchonization are minor-doesn't remove music from my iPod that I unchecked in iTunes), but every so often I try to install the new one. Now it simply crashes my system, right to blue screen and restart. No error message feedback.
Maybe I should just forget about this new update and wait for the next? Noticing some install 9.0.3 and then can't use it!
I'd love to know what's going on and have some help with this. Many thanks.

Sorry for the delay...have been away.
When my system crashes during the attempt to install, there is no error message but simply the blue screen saying it is dumping the contents of memory to hard disk.
I usually get another message before this happens, saying it cannot access the Microsoft installer, that it may be corrupt. However, I am able to install other programs both before and after with no problems. I'm wondering if this message is actually caused by other installation issues, such as a file already existing that can't be deleted or change, such as the "temp" file in C:/appdata.
This file resists deletion or change of name, and is rather large, over 5 gig in size.
Should this be deleted in safe mode?
Thanks,
John

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time?

  • I would like to download an older version of iTunes for a 32-bit operating system, how can I do this?

I would like to download an older version of iTunes for Windows Vista which has a 32-bit operating system. Any suggestions on how I can do this?

    Hi JNPhillips1,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Visit the main iTunes download page from your computer, and you should see the 32-bit download "iTunes 11.0.5 for Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7:"

  • Upgraded to new iTunes, crashed my macbook

    hello
I just upgraded to the new iTunes 7.02 yesterday. Music was playing for a good hour, and then when i went to skip a song, the music kept playing but I could not click on anything. I let it sit for about 5 minutes to see what it was doing (i had the spinning wheel), but of course nothing happened. I was forced to hard restart because I couldn't force quit, which I didn't like at all. Any reason why it would do this? Thanks a bunch.
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just did the same as you did and it wiped everything from my Ipod Touch. I love my touch but I HATE Itunes, its a piece of crab software, but unless you go with some hacked Jon DVD tools your stuck with it...
I wish Apple could make this software as good as the hardware because there is so much frustration about iTunes among users I noticed.
I have reset my Touch now 4 times since I bought it 2 weeks ago.., now its syncing for 1-2 hours all my stuff again to it, probably till the next upgrade wipes it again.... Terrible Apple!!!

  • New itunes crashing

    Hi,
I just installed the new itunes update yesterday. Now it is very slow or will not open at all.
When I do get it to open it freezes within a few minutes. My PC Task manager just shows that itunes is not responding.
    Any ideas please??
    Thanks in anticipation

In another question, I was given directions for MSCONFIG

  • New itunes crashed my entire system and corrupted itunes folder

Right now I am MAD AS ****.
I started iTunes and was told there was a new version available. Like a sucker I installed it. My iTunes folder and library with hundreds of hours of music is corrupted and the library shows up as blank. I tried uninstalling iTunes, but the new version leaves traces and when I install version 4.9 it won`t install because it finds elements of the new version. Even clicking on the iTunes library folder which is on a seoparate drive crashes my system. Now what Apple genius is responsible for this distaster!!!! And who at Apple is going to help me with this problem. Better question: Who at Apple even cares!
Can you tell I`m upset. Does anyone check the updates before sending them out to the field. %$?&*$!

OK, calm down, take a deep breathe. Ok, now that thats out of the way, please tell me exactly what happen with details so we can try to help you out.
Unfortunately, a majority of these download issues are actually Windows issues, not Apples. With that aside, as much info you can will be helpful along with what Windows OS you are running.

  • New iTunes, same sync problems with Vista

    Hi
I got really excited when I saw in the fixes for the latest iTunes 8.1 for Windows that they had fixed sync problems with iPhones. They haven't!
On Vista Ultimate the sync has always been a problem, with either OutlookSyncClient or AppleMobileSync (or both) frequently crashing. With the previous couple of versions of iTunes, in my case, it has happened every third or fourth sync. Now with the new version it is almost every sync. It took me five disconnect and reconnect attempts and a couple of reboots to succcessfully sync this morning.
I've tried every fix I can find on line. I read that the Outlook sync problem was caused by an incompatibility with pst files that were not unicode. Oddly, I wasn't supposed to be able to sync with an old pst at all, but it did work erratically. Converting my pst to unicode didn't make any difference.
With the AppleMobileSync problem, I read that completely removing all Apple software in a particular order, restarting each time between removals, then clean reinstalling, should solve the problem. It didn't.
Now the problem is even worse and I'm at my wits end on it. Come on Apple, get a grip!
If anyone can shed any light on this I would be really grateful!

  • New iTunes crashes almost every time I play a newly imported mp3

Since updating to 7.0.1 (7) it has crashed several times, usually when I double click on a newly imported mp3. It has also crashed while Ive been using other applications, ie Firefox, but not anything out of the ordinary.
Anyone else having similar problems? Will the crash log help me determine what the problem is and what to do about it?

iTunes saves out a new copy of the entire library file every time a change is made to the library. This is not new behavior.
The slowdowns I have seen like this have ususally been caused by:
    A virus
    or
Some anti-virus software is incorrectly interpreting the rewriting of the file and is causing a problem.
Either way, you should definitely update your anti-virus software and definitions to the latest, and run a full scan of your system. If that does not help, you may want to recreate your iTunes library.

  • New iTunes crashes my OS X

This is my first time to post anything ever but I dont want to just go buy a new computer! All of my system and iTunes etc are as up to date as can be -
However, just starting yesterday (Aug 4), every time I open iTunes I get the shadow screen asking me to hard boot my computer. I removed the iTunes folder and the old iTunes library - I reinstalled the program with a clean new download - I rebooted etc etc etc. Has anyone else starting experiencing this? It seems to be isolated to iTunes so I am hoping it is a program problem and not a hardware failure. HELP??!!

So you don't have any of your install disks that came with your MacBookPro? Those disks are "machine specific" ... and required to use the Hardware Test. Zero help online for that.
One thing you might try is online and free. Get Onyx. It's a great little disk utility available here:
Onyx for 10.5 and higher Download, install, and run the Maintenance and Cleaning scripts. This just might solve all your problems. It cannot do a hardware test but it is something you should do once a week if you don't leave your Mac on 24/7 to run cron tasks.
Since iTunes seems to be the culprit, try this too. Locate this file: com.apple.iTunes.plist
It's here; MacintoshHD/Users/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash and empty the Trash. It's ok to trash a preference file as your Mac will create a new one for you.
You can certainly try new RAM. Make certain you get exactly the kind of RAM your MacBookPro requires. Go to the Apple Menu, then click... About This Mac. A pane will open, click: More Info.
Your System Profiler will open. In the source list on the left its says; Hardware. If the black arrow is facing to the right click it so it faces down. Now click where it says; Memory. On the right will be the memory. Size/Type and Speed. There is also a Status category. If it says OK.. it probably is, but you can try new RAM anyway.

  • New iTunes crashes everytime I open the app tab for my ipad

I downloaded then newest iTunes because I upgraded to iOS 7. The problem is, I can't add new files to my document or Adobe app since everytime I click on the "App" tab on Itunes, it suddenly crashes. Anyone knows any solution to this? This never happened before i upgraded to the new iTunes

    Hello Rhaixxa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like after the iTunes update, your application quits unexpectedly when you click the Apps tab in iTunes.
I think it would be a good idea to recreate your iTunes library.
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists

If you are prompted to scan for content after recreating the library, I would allow iTunes to scan.

  • ITunes Crashes When Opening on Vista

  • Newer iTunes crashes pc, can I still sync?

Everytime I downloaded the newer version of iTunes it crashed my computer, leaving me unable to sync my phone. Yesterday it crashed again, so I tried a restore, and it failed miserably. In the end I even tried a firmware update and that didn't even work. The phone hung between either asking me to connect to iTunes, or the little rebooting apple. My son restored it on his computer, with a newer version of iTunes. Now when I try and sync all my gear back on, it doesn't want to seem to let me. Is there a way I can transfer all of my iTune data to another computer and run a parallel iTunes, so we both sync to different things please?

You don't. The nature of iTunes Match is that all your music is available on the iOS devices all the time. If you wish to keep syncing via USB then you'll have to turn off iTM on the devices. Or, you can use playlists, and do not show all music on the devices.

  • How do I get my iPod classic 160GB to sync with the new iTunes 11.4 (64-bit)

None of the solutions I tried have worked:
         I reinstalled iTunes.
         I reauthorized my computer
         I restored my iPod
Each time I sync, it says that sync is complete, but no songs are on my iPod.
Since restoring my iPod, I get this error message when I attempt to eject it: "The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
Please help! I miss my potable music.

    Hi YumaGal,
The easiest way to do what you are asking would be to restore the iPod nano's software, which erases all music and other content from the iPod. The process is described in this manual -
    https://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/0/MA629/en_US/iPod_nano_4th_gen_UserGuide .pdf
See at the bottom of page 69 -
To update or restore iPod nano:
1  Make sure you have an Internet connection and have installed the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/ipod/start.
2  Connect iPod nano to your computer.
3  In iTunes, select iPod nano in the source list and click the Summary tab.
The Version section tells you whether iPod nano is up to date or needs a newer version of the software.
4  Click Update to install the latest version of the software.
5  If necessary, click Restore to restore iPod nano to its original settings (this erases all data
from iPod nano). Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Open up the Quicktime control panel and make sure you are running 7.0.2 final, not 7.0.2a<something>. If you are, go get the Quicktime standalone installer and install that.
