New Kernel - stuck after unmounting file system

Hello,
I upgraded my kernel and I think that since then I'm having problems shuting down and rebooting. I get the screen where all the processes are being closed and when it comes to the "unmounting file system" it stucks.
I have a fairly strightforward system - ext3 for my linux partition and NTFS for my windows, both automaticly mounted, NTFS read only.
After I waited a few times I just have to manually shut down the computer. Not very healthy I believe.
If anyone encountered the problem or has any advice I'd welcome it.
Thank you,
Grey

i have the exact same problem, and it has been like this for a week i tought it was only me but surprises me that its not just me.
the thing is like this when u mount the ntfs filesystem if u dont read from the discs u can umount them but ir u read from them my machine freezes when it comes to the umount command !!
Im just a newbie in linux so i have no idea why this is but i have no problems at all with the reiserfs , ext3 mounts , only the ntfs is screwed up
kernel 2.6.12 , udev 062-1
when i installed from the cd i had no problems at all but , a week ago i formated all and did a ftp install , and i start having this problem.

#"zoneds" does not exist, so I am guessing that is the problem. I'm wondering if it is safe for me to delete them.
    Mark

Hmmm... I haven't run into this with ZFS.
    For UFS, this should work:
    luumount -f sol10_1008_SAPC20090813
Alternative to that, you could do a force delete of the BE (ludelete -f sol10_1008_SAPC20090813) and remove the ZFS entries manually.
I have also resorted to hand-editing the zone configuration files, but that's not exactly a recommended practice ;-)

  • Painfully slow "Unmounting file systems" at shutdown

I am using autofs to mount a CIFS share over a network. When I shutdown/reboot, the system hangs with "Unmounting file system" for a very long time (e.g. 2 minutes) before doing so.
My situation requires that the mountpoint might be in use when shutdown is commenced. It looks to me as if umount is waiting for something which is not happening.
    I am using pure-systemd setup.

I have almost the same problem. I got a NFS share in fstab and it also hangs for around 2 minutes on shutdown/reboot.
    fstab
    192.168.0.10:/media/heddson /home/maxim/pogo-heddson nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,noauto,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.device-timeout=2min 0 0
Don't know exactly how autofs works, but for me I beleve the problem was that my user didn't have the rights to unmount that share. Since root is running fstab, then only root can unmount it. My solution was to shutdown/reboot as root or add users in fstab (which allows every user to unmount it).
Hope some of this can help. I should also point out that sometimes my regular user is able to reboot without it hanging.. So it's possible I missed something.

  • [SOLVED] Systemd stuck at "Starting File system check"

    Hi all
    Backstory
    My hardware:
Mobo: Gigabyte X99 2011v3 with UEFI and dual bios.
GFX: MSI GTX 970 4GB Gaming OC
HDD: Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD
    CPU: intel 5820k
I have been using arch for about 2 years now. I recently bought new hardware, Gigabyte X99 motherboard uefi dual bios. I have tried a couple of times to install arch the old way, i.e. legacy mode or normal bios mode, however after a successful install, when I reboot my bios says "Select Proper Boot Device". Then I decided to put everything in UEFI mode and install arch using the uefi install disc. At first, I was not very successful, because I followed the arch wiki to the bone but when it comes to UEFI, instructions are a bit vague. In any case, I managed to install Arch and get uefi to work 100% by using this guide http://jorisvandijk.com/2014/installing … pt-system/ .
    Problem
After installing arch successfully using UEFI mode, arch starts booting up, everything shows [OK] at the side, no errors, however, it hangs after a line that reads "Starting File system check ". I am not at home right now, however I thought I could start troubleshooting and maybe get some ideas.
    I have tried the following.
    - Chrooted back into my arch install using the live cd and mounting my partitions.
    - Updated and synced pacman.
    - Removed all journal log files.
    - reinstalled Systemd.
    - rebuilt kernel modules.
none of the above worked. It still hangs at "Starting fiel system check"
    Any ideas.
    SOLUTION
    Solved by using
    nolapic
Still had other problems after that, however, the initial problem was solved.

    Hi Jason,
thx for your help so far. I have printed out the Arch beginners install and followed it to the bone and focusing on the UEFI parts. Arch installed without a single error, everything went smooth. Aftwerwards, I exited from the chroot environmount, unmount and reboot and again, it hangs on the startup. This time I took screenshots.
I present to the board, exhibit A, arch starting up after a fresh install :
    http://oi61.tinypic.com/2m4x82o.jpg
I now present to the board, exhibit B, arch starting up for a second time, after restarting the pc :
    http://oi59.tinypic.com/10ehvki.jpg
Afterwards, I restarted again. Went into bios setup and checked my boot priorities. This is what I saw:
I now present exhibit C, my bios boot options :
    http://oi62.tinypic.com/24ys0bd.jpg
I tried all the options listed for my Samsung SSD, with and without UEFI as well as the option that was the default aka Linux boot manage". Each one did exactly the same.
    I have a few ideas :
    1.) Leave out swap.
    2.) Disable fscheck.
3.) I have a feeling that my SSD is reading/writing too fast and that fscheck is having trouble ?
I am now trying option 1. In other words, I am reinstalling arch, again, following the beginners guide to the bone and focusing specifically on the UEFI parts. This time, I am leaving out swap. (I have 16GB of DDR4 memory). I have about a 70% feeling that the outcome will be the same. However, I will be back after that to comment on the outcome. Please leave feedback and help me through this where you can ! Thanks

  • New Macbook and Linux(ferdora) file system ext3

    Hello all.
I am getting a new Macbook.
My home file server runs Fedora Core5 with a file system of ext3.
Will the Mac be able to have read/write access?
I did not know if anyone has any experience with this?
I want to use the mac as my day to day computer but keep much of my files on my home linux box. That way I can keep adding drives.
Also.. under linux I can map a drive or folder to any folder
I want .... so that the network drive appears to be a folder in the file system and not new drive.
Is this possible in the apple world?
    Thanks for the insight.
    T

I am in the LINUX world.
I am moving to a Apple world just for my "interface" and form factor.
I use notebooks as my primary computer. You cannot beat the form factor and the "cool" factor of the macbook.
Getting linux to work on a laptop with all of different configs is difficult. I have 2 that work but they are not as "slick" as the macbook.
therefore I am planning to use a macbook as my primary computer and have linux (fedora) running on my home based computers, File server, guest computer etc.
Thanks for your help. Samba would work. But I was hoping for a more direct connection and the ability to mount a drive/folder in my mac filesystem. - which I do not know the mac file system at all.
Thanks again. I am off to google somemore... and see what I turn up.

You may need to reinstall grub afterwords.
i would do that but boot is ext2.....it ooks lke the problem is wth the superblock of root.....any ideas?
Then why did you write this:

  • How to Stop Finder WEBDAVFS from requesting .hidden, ._Directory , ._FileName files after Remotes File System Mount has happened?

    Hi,
After I have mounted remote directory on Finder , Finder requests for all file types including .hidden, ._Directory , ._FileName files and all such files which is creating havoc to the performance of the Finder.
Case 1 : In one Directory I have 500 files+directories. When the Finder tries to fetch the directory content it is sending requests for even .hidden, ._Directory , ._FileName files and so the request count grows exponentially causing breakdown for Finder. Its taking 10 mins to load the directory. The same directory request when posted by Transmit by Panic it loads within 30 secs. Transmit do not send request for ._*  files/directory.
I am rejecting request for all hidden file request but they keep on coming in thousands.
Case 2 : Finder tries to refresh the file listing whenever the Finder window is brought to Focus.
Any help is appreciated. When I try to use find for such files to delete I see no listing!
    Used : ls -1aR /Volumes/InquiraWebDAV

  • Oracle eSSO - File System Synchronization

I'm having a lot of trouble just setting up a simple file system synchronization for Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On v10.1.0.2 or v10.1.0.4 (I've tried both). I've tried it many ways, but the agent never seems to be visible to the admin console. Here is the simplest example:
On a single test machine, install the Admin Console. Use the Admin Console to create a new set of Global Agent Settings. Leave everything to default except under Synchronization, click Manage Synchronizers. Create a new synchronizer with synch type 'File System'. Go to the Required subkey and enter a network share under 'Server'. In this example, I created a share on the same local machine. The share gives 'Full Control' to 'Everyone' and 'Domain Users' groups. Save these settings in the Admin Console. Then Go to Tools > Generate Customized MSI in the Admin Console, exporting the newly created Global Agent Settings to the customized agent installer MSI. Then on the same test machine, install the agent by using the customized MSI. During the agent installation, choose 'Custom' and enable installation of Extensions > Synchronization Manager and File System synchronization type.
So, that's what I've done. When I then go back to the Admin Console and connect to the repository (the share setup on the local machine) and select 'Configure SSO Support', the result is that it creates a folder called 'People' and two override objects: ENTLIST and ADMINOVERRIDE. That's it. No matter how many or where I install agents on this computer or elsewhere on the network 1) the admin console does not seem to see them 2) the ENTLIST of customized applications never gets pushed to the agents. In fact the ENTLIST shown in the Repository within the Admin Console does not seem to update when the apps list in the admin console is updated (even if I press 'Refresh' in the repository).
Can anyone help? Is it something silly like the order in which I've done things, or did I miss a step somewhere?

    Hi,
I have the same problem, but I use an Active Directory in the basckend :o(
I'm able to configure the admin console (connection to AD, create a global agent for my AD server). When I install the ESSO-Agent on the same machine (where the administrative console is already installed)...it's quite easy because the following "option" is available : "Export Apps to Agent"!!! Using this, there is no problem.
On the other hand, when I install the ESSO-Agent on the user's workstation...it's really an other story :o( For the monent, I'm not able to get the credentials (pre-configured applications) from Active Directory. I think that the (Global Agent) settings have been successfully pushed into AD, but I'm not able to get them from the user's workstation.
What are the steps to realize this operation (get the pre-configured applications from AD)?
I always get a connection window which requires the following three parameters: username, password and user path.
Because AD is my backend server, I thought that the following "values" were correct...., but that's not the case, and I'm sure that I'm not connected to AD:
    username: cn=toto toto,cn=users,dc=name,dc=com
    password: mypwd
    user path: dc=name,dc=com
I hope that you have resolved your problem, and that someone could help me :o)
    Thanks a lot.

  • Images in the folders of an external file system KM

    Hello,
We are facing a problem in our KM, the thing is We have created a external file system in our KM, it is green and almost everythings is working fine... In the CM repository we have assigned the "properties" as a repository services, but in the setting of our folders we can not see the tab of rendering within the properties.
This is our problem without this tab of rendering We can not assign a image for this folder .. And We need to assign imaged to the folders.
Does anyone know whether we need to add new repository sevices to our file system ? or it is impossible to assign an image to a folder in a external file system within the knowledge management.
    Thanks in advance.
    OLAF

We have found the reason why we did not have the rendering option for assign images to the folder in a external repository.
Our guess was good, We should have added a new "repository services" called "layout service".
    Thanks for reading this.

  • File system IS journaled extended

New iMac. And the file system is Mac Journaled extended, but getting the famous "wrong file system" error message when loading up iPhoto for the first time. It is the default settings, so iPhoto Library resides on my harddrive.
Any reason why I'm getting this error message and unable to use this product?

That means your original library is corrupt.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • File system corrupted *after* it was unmounted

    Hi all,
I'd be interested in any opinions on this problem.
I recently bought a 1TB Samsung Story Station 3 usb hard drive for use with Time Machine.
This model of drive has a power switch on the front. Most of the time I don't need hourly backups so my plan is to leave the drive turned off most of the time and only turn it on when I feel the need for automatic hourly backups.
A beautiful setup... except... The file system keeps getting corrupted and it is not always repairable.
    What is happening?
My procedure is to eject the disk then switch off the drive.
About half the time an immediate disk verify will report that the disk requires repair.
I have tried variations of this with very similar results. Here is a typical failure scenario:-
1 - Start Time Machine "Back Up Now"
2 - Let it copy some data then stop the backup (if necessary)
    3 - Eject the disk
4 - Switch off the drive
5 - Switch on the drive
    6 - Verify
    Variations on the theme...
I have tried the drive with and without a bootable image restored to it and therefore with and without journalling on the file system (I believe).
1, 2 - I have tried copying data using finder instead of using time machine.
3 - I have tried umount -f and diskutil unmount
Note that umount without -f reports the drive is busy but other ejection/unmount mechanisms work.
    Is this related?
The only thing that may have made a difference is that powering down the mac, instead of just the drive, after ejection has not yet resulted in a damaged file system.
The obvious conclusion to draw is that a buffer somewhere is not being flushed before I turn off the drive, but is this buffer in OS X or in the drive itself?
In either case I assume other people are having the same problem.
For now I will just leave the drive turned on all the time. Maybe this is what everyone else does so nobody else has sees the problem.

I need help with my MP3 Player. This is the second one I have bought and it keeps going to 'File System Corrupted'. Its an RCA MP3 Player. Holds 5GB's. My first one lasted about 6 months and this one only 3 months. I don't drop it. Like maybe once, but on a soft floor and its never been thrown or beaten on. No marks on it from being dropped or hit on anything. Also I can't get it to respond to my computer. I plug it in and says, 'File System Corrupted'. There needs to be like a way to fix it. Other wise the people who built it are getting money easily with a device that works only a short limited amount of time. I've pressed my power button and held it for 0 seconds. Nothing happens. I'm really annoyed with this device. I've waited much money on it. Is there at all a way to fix it. ~Dark Warrior~

  • How to run something on shutdown before file systems unmounted

I've been trying to get kexec working with systemd, following the advice on this wiki page:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kexec#Systemd
Unfortunately, the suggested unit file does not work for me.  The problem is that no matter what I do, my /boot file system gets unmounted before kexec gets run (so that it cannot find the kernel).  I've tried adding most subsets of the following to the Unit section of my [email protected] file, all to no avail:
    Before=shutdown.target umount.target final.target
    RequiresMountsFor=/boot/vmlinuz-linux
    Wants=boot.mount
    After=boot.mount
If I run "systemctl start kexec-load@linux" followed by "systemctl kexec", everything works fine.  But if I forget to do the former, then the kexec fails.
Anyway, I'm finding it super frustrating not to be able to control the order of events on shutdown.  There has to be a way to do it, but absolutely nothing I've tried seems to make any difference.  On startup I can obviously control things, so I could have some dummy service that does nothing on start but on stop calls kexec.  But I don't want kexec called on an ordinary reboot or poweroff, only after "systemctl kexec."
If someone could tell me how to do what I need to do, I would much appreciate it.

    use:
FileOutputStream data_Stream = new FileOutputStream(data_File, true); The second argument is the append flag and is false by default.

  • I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work. Help?

I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)
