My 2007 Macbook pro Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed 2.33 GHz has power issues with one or some of my USB powered devices. Last night I could not back up my Lacie external drives with software SuperDuper, hard drive copier. I also had a message that Time machine failed. I have two powered 12V USB
routers that are plugged into a 550VA CyberPower surge protector. I often receive these insufficient USB power for devices messages a dozen times even when I do not have devices like camera, Ipad, Ipod, and Tascam digital audio recorder plugged in. Is there a way to troubleshoot these USB routers or should I consider that one of the routers may be defective and replace them?

Where can I find directions to replace the internal HD on a MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo, 08/08)? Considering the age does it matter ATA-300 or 150?

MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4) Failure To Open
I cannot turn on My MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4) When I took it to a technician he said he needs Bios for my MacBook Pro. Where can i get it? Please help
First suggestion is to never go back to that Technician, he knows nothing about Apple computers.
Mac computers do not use a BIOS, they use a Firmware, EFI, and there is no way to get into it.
You can get a Firmware reinstall disc, CD, from Apple for your system but I seriously doubt that is why your system is not booting.
From the type of Intel CPU installed in your system it is more then likely a late 2007 or early 2008 model that is more then likely one of these described in this article.

I have a MacBook Pro to use at work. It has everything (all genuine softwares, server connection etc). The company is using a contract IT company so connecting to the server and setting email is real issue with me as this IT people can't configure Mac. Last time it took them 1 week to set up everything for me ( me one the phone with them as they aren't coming to our office - they only use QuickViewer to get access to my laptop).
Now the company is buying me an iMac so that I can use the laptop at home. Can I use firewire to transfer everything to the new iMac so that I don't waste my time installing softwares & calling this IT people to set up my email and connection to the server again? If it works do I have to enter serial numbers in again for all the softwares or I have to buy new softwares (I know with Adobe CS - I can only install in one computer)?
Thanks in advance. If you want to use the adobe suite on the imac you will have to deactivate it on the MBP or it will show up as being used. That is if you can only install it on one computer. Some licenses you can install it on 2 computers but it has to say that on the cd key tag.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the contractors. It is not that hard to get stuff like that up and running on the mac. -
Macbook pro intel core 2 duo hard drive UPGRADE?
Hi,
Sorry if this has been answered already...
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo), i upgraded to 3GB RAM, and Snow Leopard but my 120 factory Hard Drive seems to ALWAYS drop below 50GB and I want to upgrade.
Any suggestions?
1) Would Apple be able to do this for me?
or
2) should I do it myself?
3) What is the max amount of Hard drive capacity on this mac??
(I called Apple, they told me max is 200gb??...is this true??)
I found a site, that sells them pretty decent prices, any recommendations?
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/Pro/Core2/
4) I've seen videos and read forums on how to install/upgrade myself, but I am reallly not familar with this, and would feel more comfortable if someone could do it for me...anyone here, live or is near New Jersey? that would do it for me? I will pay you.
Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge the total capacity of HDDs you can installed is only limited by market availability. I am not sure exactly which MBP you have (do you mind including the processor speed in your profile?) you can safely add up to 500 GB HDD. Here is a list of available drives at OWC. The drives may be available for less elsewhere if you check. Take a look at this discussion topic.
should I do it myself?
If you have basic mechanical skills like knowing how to use a screwdriver, and you have a gentle touch, a bit of patience and a steady hand, you can do it yourself. You will find step by step directions with pics at iFixit. Select your particular computer and then click on HD Replacement. I will list some tips at the end of this post.
If you still need to have someone do it for you after reviewing the directions and tips, please post back for suggestions.
Here are few tips you may find helpful:
• Print out the ifixit directions as well as the screw guide ahead of time.
• Be sure you have the right tools. You don't want to damage the screw heads or you may never get them out. And the Torx screw driver is critical. For a spudge I use the handle of an old toothbrush (choose one made of hard plastic), cut off the brush and bevelled the handle end like a flat blade screw driver). For some spudge jobs a credit card will do the trick.
• Picking up on one user’s suggestion, I clicked on the pages of each step which involved removing screws to enlarge, then printed out the pages. I poked holes in the paper where the screws were removed, poked the screws in the holes and stacked the pages in order in which there were removed. Reassembling was a lot easier. No cups to tip over and spill. No guessing. Each screw was exactly in the right place. You can use an ice cube tray, egg carton, dixie cups etc. I previously used small medicine cups one for the screws in each step. I nested them so that the last ones out and the first to go back in are on top. (Some users report cutting up the screw guide and placing the applicable section in each container.)
• Be very careful pulling out leads. Hold the lead as close to the plug as possible and wiggle (the plug ) to loosen its grip. Don’t hold the wires and pull as that can damage the cable, or worse, in some instances pull the wires out of the plug. Indeed, some users have pulled the socket off the logic board! Use needle nose pliers or tweezers if you can access the plug, or nudge the plug with a small instrument to help loosen its grip.
• Use force gently in removing parts. Separating upper and lower case takes some doing. Use a plastic tool (spudge) so as not to leave marks.
• Refer to the screw guide when reassembling computer. Putting longer screws in the wrong place can perforate the circuit board.

I bought a Audi DJ mixer Pioneer DDJ SR and i want to know if it matches with a Macbook pro core 2 Duo, 2,4 GHZ, 4gb RAM, 250gb DDR?
If not, then can i make it match by adding 4gb RAM or changind DDR to SSD, or others?
Thanks for your help.
(I am french and my English is not so good, so please let me know if my question is not clear)Hi Rick,
Given that the MBP has a 4200RPM HD in it now, any 5400 or 7200 is likely to yield a significant speed increase during operations requiring HD access.
If it is a 15" MBP, make sure you get a 9.5mm high, 2.5 inch SATA HD. If it's a 17", a 12.5mm high HD will fit.
I don't believe any brand of current HDs is significantly better/worse than the others. That said, I think Seagate is at a low ebb of quality right now. I think Hitachi is at the top. WD blacks seem to be consistently reliable. Without question, others will have different opinions (it's like asking if a Toyota or Ford or Honda, etc. is best). I really like the idea of Seagate's hybrid drive, but there is a real mixed bag of reviews on it. It's first gen, and there are issues to be worked out/improved upon. Check out newegg for 200+ user reviews.
AFA 5400 vs 7200, all other things being equal (rarely the case) the faster drive is likely to give better response, but don't expect night and day difference. All other things being equal, it's also likely to run hotter, reduce run time on battery, and increase vibration. There's also a bit of a cost premium.
Whichever you end up with, remember to backup, backup, and backup (I highly recommend a clone and Time Machine).
The odds are you/she will be happier with any of the 5400s or 7200s over the current 4200, and a new drive should easily help you/her get another year or more out of the MBP. Good luck with the decision.

My macbook pro shows that I have to replace the battery, but I dont want to leave it at the apple service centre and would like to take it with me after replacement of the battery. Is this a quick action at genius bar? or should I try to replace it myself?
I currently switches off even when it's on normal charger and plugged in. Why would it switch off without the having a battery even when it's connected to via power? To replace the battery takes about 10-15 minutes. (I have taken it out and put it back in)
However Apple will not sell you the battery, they will insist on installing it themselves. In addition, you do need a #0 Triwing driver to take out the battery. Not an easy tool to find in your local hardware store.

Is this the MBP? If so, mention that to the genius bar technician when you have the battery replaced.

MacBook Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo - Mouse "Stutter"
So, I had an issue which was driving me up the wall - basically the mouse on my MacBook Pro would "stick" on a fairly regular basis. Just often enough to make working life unbearable. Actually, to be more accurate the pointer would briefly freeze whatever input method was being used (i.e. it'd do it with the trackpad).
To cut a long story short, going back to the original install disks and NOT using software update seems to have fixed things. Hypothesis is that a recent software update item introduces this problem. Which update I'm not too sure but my OS is frozen for the time being!
HTH someone.
SimonI have the same problem on the same hardware. Both usb mouse (tried several types) and trackpad.
I tried to reset the controller thingy by removing the battery and pressing the power button for 5 secs. On reboot it worked again, but now is not. That was yesterday. I also notice it is a pause in ANY input, even typing, as though the processor was stalling momentarily or something, kind of like when you would run winxp on a slow computer.
I really dont want to have to reinstall osx. -
I am very reluctantly considering upgrading to Lion and going ahead and migrating MobileMe to iCloud before June 2012. If I upgrade and migrate, will I still be able to sync my 2nd generation iPod Touch via USB cable? Or will these changes force me to get a new iPod that can run iOS 5 because syncing will be nightmarish?
Thanks for your reply. I would prefer to keep using this iPod for a while yet. Cheers!

My computer is a MacBook Pro Intel core duo, and I need to know if I can run the new Lion OS? The Apple web says must have Intel Core 2 Duo. Please advise. Not knowledgeable enough to know if not having the 2 between Core and Duo is a stopper. Appreciate any guidance.
The difference between a Core Duo and a Core 2 Duo is a show stopper when it comes to running Lion. The Core Duo is still only a 32 bit chip, but the Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit chip. You need the 64 bit chip to run Lion.

Firstly, I am a little angered that apple has not come out with any directly supported options to allow people with my macbook pro to upgrade to the new wireless N capability.
Therefore I have found a 3rd party option that is being offered by fastmac (http://fastmac.com/ncard.php) that will allow for wireless N wifi.
My only concern is if having this installed (professionally by them or by an authorized reseller, say compusa) would cause my entire applecare warranty to be voided or just the part that covers the wireless card. I could deal with having the wireless card voided as it would be under warranty by fast mac...
Macbook pro intel core duo Mac OS X (10.4.9)Your warranty is not voided by installing the Airport card. However, any damage that may be caused by the installation of the card would not be covered under the warranty.
Secondly, the Airport Extreme card that supports 802.11n is available as an upgrade kit for Mac Pros. Some Apple dealers may be able to obtain and install the card for you in your computer. -
I have a MacBook Air (Intel Core 2 Duo) Mac OS X 10.6.8, I would like to update to Lion but I am not sure if I need the Snow Leopard, I am not sure if I have it, or if I can just download the Lion. Please help.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. The dialog will display the installed version.
