New macbook pro update to 10.4.8 causes a lot of problems

i got my macbook pro about a week ago. seems to work fine running 10.4.6. then i decided to run software update. it says that it will download the 10.4.8 update. went on with the update. restart took a while - i figured that it was still doing some "internal" stuff... so i waited. after the restart, the problems came. first, it wont shutdown. i get stuck in the blue screen. so i forced shutdown it, then booting would take at least 5 minutes! also, trackpad and keyboard does not respond most of the time.
i archived and install. so i went back to 10.4.6. the problems went away. then i ran software update again - 10.4.8 - then the problems came back! i thought that maybe my installed applications were messing the update, so i decided to do a fresh install - delete all files and install mac os x...
after doing a fresh install, i downloaded 10.4.7 from the apple website. installed it and then downloaded 10.4.8. AND then the problems came back again.
i have been googling this for about 3 days now and still found no answer.
what are your thoughts? any advice?
BTW: i also did a command + option + P + R and made the macbook pro "dong" a couple of times... but still the problems come back when i go to 10.4.8
PROBLEMS:
1) takes at least 5 minutes to boot - sometimes does not boot at all. stuck at the bluescreen
2) trackpad and keyboard gets stuck - until i press the power button then the trackpad and keyboard starts to respond again
3) does not shutdown - i get stuck on the bluescreen
these problems come even after doing a fresh install and a step-by-step update to 10.4.7 to 10.4.8

nope. since the latest security update came AFTER the 10.4.8 update, i never had the chance to install it because 10.4.8 was giving me major headaches.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro updated to Lion now it is so slow

    Hi Everyone,
I have just purchased a brand new MacBook Pro, upon setting it up it promted me to update software which I did so it's currently running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. My server provider is Optus and I live in the heart of Sydney.
I am new to the world of Mac's so don't really know wether my problem is opertator caused or not...How ever I currently have such slow internet I am unable to even watch you tube videos. It takes over a minute just to load pages and I am feeling a huge amount of frustration as I have a brand new computer and am on an expensive all inclusive package by one of the most recognised providers in Australia yet am getting rediculously slow internet.
Can anyone suggest what the cause of this may be and and changes I should make.
    Thanks

Have you installed any programs since you got the Mac? Also look to the right of the page and you'll see a list of posts under 'More Like This'. Have a read trough them to se if you can find solutions on issues similar to yours.

  • Does the new macbook pro 13" with i7 usually heat up a lot?

Hi Guys, Ive got a brand new 13" macbook pro with the i7 processor. It gets really hot when im doing something simple like watching online videos. is this usual? i only got the machine yesterday

From a processor standpoint, watching videos is anything but "something simple." Lots of stuff has to happen to make nice movies on-screen. So the answer is "yes"--it's normal.
The limits on my 13-inch 2012 MBP for core temps are shown as 221F/105C. What you "feel" may be warm but probably not to those levels. Macs are designed to do a safety shutdown if the internal temps get too close to the point of being dangerous.
When watching videos, place the MBP on a firm flat surface so air gets underneath, and make sure nothing obstructs the hinge area on the back of the case. The air intakes and exhaust are both there. Don;t set it on your lap without a lab board or use it on a blanket of pillow.
If you wish to monitor your temps in real numbers so you don't have to guess, I recommend this free utility:

i only got the machine yesterday
If it continues to be a concern to your peace of mind, by all means have Apple check it out. It's under warranty.

  • Strange wifi problem on a brand-new MacBook Pro

Hey there, I'm new here. Desperation has got the better of me, and I hope I can get some advice.
So, last sunday I bought a brand new 13" MacBookPro with 2.8g i7 processor and 10.7.2 OS (I can't update to 10.7.4 because System Update tells me the download has been tampered with or corrupted after I waited 2 hours for it to finish, but I'm trying a direct download from the website). Here's the exact product: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MD314LL-13-3-Inch-VERSION/dp/B005CWIZ4O/ref= sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1340301247&sr=8-5&keywords=macbook+pro+13
Everything is all perfect except for a strange wifi problem. Note that the wifi does not turn-on or off, it doesn't disconnect after 'sleep', it doesn't get less speed, it doesn't constantly leave a preferred connection (once I chose my home wifi it always connects to it no problem). The wifi bar is always full. What is wrong is that the internet is kinda 'glitchy'. The best metaphor I can think of is that it's like a car that has to be pushed down the road before the engine can start. Please, bear with me because this is kinda hard to explain and I'm not good at tech lingos.
One of the symptoms is browsing can get really slow and inconsistent, almost as if the wifi gets turned off in the middle of browsing. For example: if I look something up on Google and then open 5 new tabs, probably only 2 or 3 of those tabs will eventually load while the other two will not get past the long 'http:.......google.....etc etc' address and will eventually show one of those 'error loading page because there's no Internet connection' notice. This happens a lot. Sometimes I have to refresh/retry loading a page a couple of times before it finally loads, then usually everything will get back to normal and I will be able to open multiple tabs with no problem, but in a couple of minutes I would try to open another site and the problem will start again.
So I tried to see how it does with downloading using iGetter. Fortunately I also have a Macbook (white-plastic casing one) and my brother has an old 2006 MacbookPro so I can compare. With those two older Apples iGetter starts receiving data in less than 8 seconds after I click Start, while my brand-new Macbook Pro can take up to 15-20 seconds, sometimes it doesn't even start at all and I have to re-click the start button. But once the download actually starts (on my new MacBook Pro), it downloads like normal, it doesn't stop and the speed is also as good as I can get. Strange huh? Hence, like a car that has to be pushed before the engine starts.
I also tried 'speed testing' from a website with all 3 laptops. On my old MacBook and my brother's MacBook pro, once I click 'begin test' it takes only a couple of seconds of 'ping' before the download/upload speed measurements start, but with my new MacBook Pro (just like with iGetter) it takes up to almost a minute before the measurements start, sometimes it won't start at all and I have to re-start the test.
Well, thanks for reading. And hope you can help me shed some light into this. Because it is really preventing me from really enjoying my new MacBook Pro. And if this is most likely a hardware problem, I'd better get back to the store and try to get it replace or something while it's only been 5 days. *cheers*

Hey guys.. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I bought the MacBook in Indonesia where there are no such thing as an AppleCare. The only option is to leave the Apple product to one of the 'Authorized Apple care centre' and have whoever do whatever to it without guarantee of success. As for returning it and getting a brand new one, I also don't know if there is such a deal here, but that's actually a good idea, will try to go to the store tomorrow. Although, I'm worried that the problem might be with OSX Lion or something and getting a new one won't help.
mark75090, I've tried resetting the router when I first noticed te problem, didn't work though. I've checked my new MacBook's wi-fi (option+click wifi bar) and it says 'PHY Mode: 802.11g', so does my MacBook and the old MacBook Pro. I don't know what those mean though, and I don't know whether or not my router is an N., can you tell me more please.. I have tried with the other two turned off, and only the new MacBook using the wi-fi but the problem persists. I have also tried connecting directly to the router, but as I described, the problem is too subtle for me to notice the difference.
Also, if I create a brand new Wi-Fi connection in network preferences and connect to my router through the new Wi-Fi profile, the problem seems to be gone for an hour or so, then it always comes back though. I have also just finally installed 10.7.4, but it doesn't help either.

  • MacBook Pro Update 2.0 & Minecraft

I installed the new MacBook Pro Update 2.0, everything seems fine except if i press f11 to make MInecraft go full screen my mac crashes, anyone else have this problem?

A solution I've found that seems promising is to (sadly) force Minecraft to use the integrated graphics card instead of the Nvidia.
You can use gfxCardstatus (freeware, open source) to force using the integrated card: http://gfx.io
Of the main indicators that the nvidia card might be the problem was messages like this in the console after a crash going to fullscreen:

This is the sort of thing that is probably up to Mojang to fix, although I'm only seeing the problem playing feed the beast (which requires 1.4.7), and I haven't seen it playing 1.5.2 with the new launcher, so ths might also be the sort of thing that's just fixed by having the latest version.

  • I just bought a new MacBook Pro and it came with the old operating system, how do I upgrade it to the latest one without having to purchase it?

    Hi,
Im a new Mac user. I currently just bought a new MacBook Pro. The first computer I got apparently had a problem with the flex, so I had to go change it for a new one. The first one had the latest operating system, the second one the store gave me didn't, yet it's still a brand new computer, so I don't see why I should have to pay for the new operating system, which should already come with my brand new computer. So I am trying to contact apple so they may give me permission to download it from the app store for free, due to this inconvenience and first bad experience. The vendor tells me that sometimes new computers may come with old operating systems because they're from an old batch of new computers. Oh and by the way, I'm from Honduras, and bought it at Jetstereo, in Tegucigalpa (the capital). This store is a licensed distributor.
    Hope someone can help me,
    Ankie Zapata

Go to the Mac App Store main page and click on Support under Quick Links.

  • I bought a second hand G4 iBook with iLife 09 on it.  I have copied iLife to my new Macbook Pro. The applications would not open, so I did a software update and update all three applications, but they will still not open.  Can anyone help?

I bought a second hand G4 iBook with iLife 09 on it.  I have copied iLife to my new Macbook Pro. The applications would not open, so I did a software update and update all three applications, but they will still not open.  Can anyone help?

The seller should have given you the original disk so that you can reinstall as needed. But it likely was a single-user license (which really means single computer) so you can only have a copy on one computer at a time. If the seller didn't give you the disk he is probably still using the software on his new Mac. Your best option to get any of the iWork apps to use in OS X 10.6.6 or later is through the Mac App Store. You can then install them on any Mac you have that has access to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID.

  • New Macbook Pro. wont connect to wireless network once it has had a update

    hi
bought a new macbook pro last week, when you first start it up it connects fine to a wireless network, but once the software update is compltete it says that there is an error trying to jion network. there is already a powerbook g4 connected to the network and a pc. i have re installed tiger and it can connect fine until the software update has restarted the mac and the same error is back again. do i re install it again and never update it or is there a simple way to correct the fault

My girlfriends New Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I does connect to non-secure wireless connections such as at the airport but doesn't connect to her home wireless connection that is run by an SBC DSL 2WIRE gateway. I can connect fine on her old IBM laptop that I am on right now through this network wirelessly.
There has to be a fix for this?

  • Unable to update iPhoto on new Macbook Pro

I have a new MacBook pro and AppStore indicates that there is an update for iPhoto.  When I try to update iPhoto I get an error stating "to update this application sign in with the account you used to purchase it".
I did not register the first time I booted the MacBook so I am assuming that it must not know what Apple ID to use for the update, but I do have my apple id associated with my user account.  How do I get around this issue so I can update iPhoto?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Apple support suggested the following (which didn't work for me, but I'm sharing as they might work for others - I'll keep the post updated when I hear back, again):
    1) Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
    2) Enter your Apple ID and password.
    3) Click Purchases.
    4) If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them.
    5) Click Install to compete installation of your applications.
If this does not work, follow the instructions below and then repeat the steps above to accept the iLife apps again.
    1) Close the Mac App Store.
    2) In Finder, click on the Go menu.
    2) Click Go to Folder.
    3) Enter ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/
    4) Drag adoption.plist to the Trash.
    5) Relaunch the Mac App Store.
You should then be prompted to accept the apps for your current account.
If you are not prompted to accept the apps when you sign back in to the Mac App store and click on purchases, please contact us back.

  • Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

When trying to update getting (error surle error domain error-1100). It started yesterday, any help would be great. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a new macbook pro with retina display.

There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Note that if you are trying to download iTunes 10.7, that can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576
Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available.

  • Disk Images do not mount - Update to Lion on New MacBook Pro

    Hi,
Just got my new MacBook Pro 2011 13 inch higher spec with 750GB hard drive today. Updated immediately to OS X lion via the up to date programme for free. Am in the process of restoring my applications that I had on my old computer that are on my external hard drive, however the .dmg disk images will not load properly. They go through the regular process of verifying then mounting the disk image, then the image appears for a split second on my desktop before disappearing again.
This happens even if i copy the disk image off of my external hard drive to my macintosh HD and try to mount from there.
This is really really scaring me as if I can't load all my old applications my new computer is absolutely useless. Please please could someone tell me what is going on!?!?!??!?!
    Many thanks in advance,
    Sam

Woke up this morning and tried again and now they all mount fine... Don't know how this happened but the only things I have done differently are trying to mount a dmg that was on my old computer over the network, and it mounted fine, then mounted other dmgs that were previously not working, and they are all fine too. I'm halfway through downloading software updates but all its done so far is download updates for iweb and itunes, and they haven't started running yet anyway.
    With love from,

  • Updated to OS 10.7.3; fan runs constantly and battery life dropped to under 2 hours when 100% charged. How do I get back to 10.7.2, I don't have a backup prior to this upgrade. This is a newer Macbook Pro 13", no modifications.

Help! This new version of Lion is making me miserable. The fan runs constantly, the computer is hot and battery life has dropped to under 2 hours on a fully charged battery. I updated yesterday, nothing but misery today. Even running the mail program alone make the fan run like I have everything open. Using Pages, iPhoto, and iTunes simultaneously makes the computer blistering hot.Yesterday, I could use all three without any trouble. Any suggestions to either jettison 10.7.3 or how to fix without any expense? I haven't modified this computer at all, it is as it came from the box in August 2011: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3.

I updated to Lion 10.7.3 and started noticing my fans running on high all the time and my battery would drain 2-3x faster.  I was going to take my computer into an Apple store until I found this thread.  I did the SMC reset by shutting down my computer, plugging it in, and then pushing down shift+control+option while also pushing down the power button.  Nothing happens on the screen and the computer did not turn on.  I then released all the buttons at once after holding them down for 10 seconds.
After that, I simply turned my computer back on and everything seems to be working fine.  The  fans are not blasting anymore.  I have a newer MacBook Pro where I can't access my batteries.  The SMC reset may differ for other types of laptops.

  • Mac OSX (10.5.6) update breaking new MacBook Pro

Hi, I purchased one of the new MacBook Pro Unibody machines and every time I have tried to update the operating system to 10.5.6 it has broken the performance of the machine. I have used the updater software as well as tried to install via the combo updater. Every time I do this I log in to find that performance is extremely choppy. When I move my mouse it jumps around all over the place, making it extremely difficult to click on anything. Applications launch at an abysmally slow rate and the computer just generally begins to take a nose dive for the worst. It seriously is running slower and more poorly than my outdated MacBook. I'm getting extremely tired of fresh installing Leopard and was hoping someone could help me out in trying to solve this problem as I want to have the most up to date system but I don't want it to come at a significant performance decrease.
    Any help would be amazing.

Have you run Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" step to see if it finds any problems with the file system on the hard drive?
Also, when you say 'fresh install' what exactly do you mean you have done, step by step? Depending on the installation options, you may have retained or reintroduced some third party item that is interfering with the update, like a login item or 'enhancer' software.
