I'm cluelss so if anyone can give me a hand, that would be great.
The thing will not even turn on now.

  • ITunes won't recognize my new Nano (already have ipod 5.0)

    Hello-
I installed the software for my new nano. When I attach the nano, iTunes says that something is wrong with the software and that I need to re-install iTunes.
My 5.0 ipod still connects fine. My main question is: what is the trick to having iTunes recognize 2 different ipods?
Also, will reinstalling iTunes affect my playlists, library, podcast settings, etc?
    Thanks for any help

  • Need help on how to help my sister register her new nano and add music to it on my computer. I have my on nano already on my computer registered and set up but she and I don't listen to the same music so how would I go about doing this?

I'm trying to find out information on how to go about helping my sister to register her new nano and load on CD's and such. I have a nano and already know how to do this but she is from CA and we want to load it here on my computer. She will be going home in 2 weeks and wants to use it in the car for the ride home.We don't listen to the same kind of music so I don't want to use my library but do one of her own for her. Also she will want to add this library on to her computer at home. I'm 60 and my sister is 70 I have enough knowledge to do some things on the computer but am not real computer smart. My sister is just learning about everything but has no idea what to do with that knowledge. Can anyone give me and idea on how to do this that I can get a grasp of what needs to be done to do this? My nephew says it's easy but he's in Az and I'm here. He also helps people with computers so he is more knowledgeable than I am. Would appreciate any help on this. thx

    No. Back it up anyway.

  • I have the latest version of Itunes downloaded and installed to my computer.  I have a music library already created for my replaced Ipod Nano.  I've just purchased a new Nano.  When I try to access the Itunes store from the Itunes program, it gets hung u

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes, but it still gets hung up when trying to access the Itunes Store from the Itunes program.
I've been unable to register the new Nano or sync it with my library.

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • I have an iPad w iTunes. My hubby just got a new nano and I'd like to sync our music to his nano, but dont know how. Help we've already taken a great mp3 back to exchange it for this nano.

I have an iPad w iTunes, my hubby just got a new nano and we would like to sync music from my iPad (and not lose my songs in the process).  I do not have iTunes on a pc so I don't know how to share music.

There is no way to share your music on the iPad to his Nano without a computer - that I can think of anyway. No third party application will work unless both devices have WiFi and many of them require a computer as well.
I would suggest downloading iTunes on your PC, transfer your music to the iTunes library and then sync the Nano.
Maybe I am missing something but I don't think this is possible as you are currently set up.

  • If my  ipod nano already has music on it but not my account will all my stuff be lost when i sync it to my account

if my ipod nano already has music on it but not on my new account will all my stuff be lost when i sync it to my new accont and would i still be able to add stuff from the old account to my ipod

All your iTunes Store purchases are linked to the account.  I do not think you can use two accounts with an iPod*, so you will have to choose one account or the other, and use only the things purchased under that account.
*I've never actually tried, but that's my understanding.  You'd get a better answer by posting in the correct forum.  Try the iPod forums rather than the Using Apple Support Communities forum.

  • Nano Died - Got a New because of Insurance - Computer Not Findng New Nano

My Nano recently died. I had an insurance policy with the retailer. I took my old one in and they gave me a new nano...but, nothing else...no software, etc.
Can I use the software I got 5 months ago? If so, what the heck is going on? I can't do anything to get my computer to recognize this new ipod.
I've restarted the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled ipod and i tunes software, followed all the instructions I found through technical support, and I can't get the new nano to work.
Specifically, after all the above, I turn on my computer, turn off my Norton security, connect the ipod, and the nano screen reads "Do no disconnect" but I don't hear the nano hard drive turning. itunes doesn't load automatically like it should.
when I run the updater, it asks me to plug in the ipod though it's already plugged in. Eventually the program just freezes.
If I click safely disconnect the device, not only does "Apple IPOD USB Device" show up but also something I'v'e never seen before..."Generic Volume - (E:)" When I try to select disconnect "Generic Volume - (E:)" I get an error message and then my computer whigs out.
I'm using a relatively new laptop and have NEVER had issues with my computer recognizing my old Nano until it died. I'm relatively computer savvy but have literally been working on this for 5 hours.
What is going on? Did I get a faulty replacement? Any help would be appreciated before I throw this thing across the room and/or return it back to the retailer. Thank you!

I recently got an Ipod and experienced somewhat the same as you. I also did what the article about laptops and Power Management with the USB ports said, but this made no difference. Actually I did all kinds of things as suggested by Apple, but neither solved my problem of not being able to run the Ipod Updater and hence iTunes.
Eventually I followed another piece of quite common advice in the forums - I formatted the Ipod myself. Then I ran the most recent Ipod Updater and chose to Restore instead of update. After restoring I started iTunes manually and it picked up the Ipod and let me do the final setup.
I don't use iTunes to manage my music so I specifically selected the option to have iTunes not start automatically and have it recognize the Ipod as a disk/drive, but I suppose you can set it up differently.
In this and other forums there are several posts about how to format the Ipod and the advice I chose to follow was:
    1. Put the Ipod in Disk Mode
    2. "Kill" the service Ipodservice.exe using Task Manager
    3. Format the Ipod using a tool called HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. Set the file system to FAT32 and choose Quick format.
NB! When I click 'Safely disconnect the device' I also have an item called "Generic volume ". From what I understand it tells you that the Ipod has been identified by Windows as a separate drive, just like any other USB drive would.

  • Does anyone know if there is an adapter for the new nano iPod to connect to a FS-2 iPort?

Does anyone know if there is an adapter for the new nano iPod to connect to a FS-2 iPort?

IIRC the very original Bose Dock had the old 30 pin wiring and was designed initially for the iPod
If you have that version then you will need a converter to the later wiring ( sans firewire) as in Scosche .
and then the 30 pin to lightning Apple adapter
In theory it should work but who knows.
If you have a later one which already works with current devices then just the lightning adapter
It is important to get the genuine Apple adapter I have several and all work fine in several scenarios
Avoid the eBay knock offs most only charge

  • Got new nano and new laptop - how to get songs on both?

My old nano does not work, purchased a new Nano 16 gb.   Also have new laptop and would like to get songs onto new laptop and new nano.   What should I do first?  New laptop is Windows 7, old is Windows XP.   I do have an external hard drive that I can use to back up songs from old computer.

The external is perfect. You will want to locate your music on the Win XP hard drive and move it to the external, then bring the external to the new Win 7 PC and drag the music in to a folder there.
If you have iTunes already installed then you will need to drag the music in to iTunes once you've moved it to the PC.
If iTunes is not installed you're good, just install iTunes and it will pick up the music automatically.
Then connect iPod and sync ^^v

  • Transferring from my original iPod onto my new Nano

I bought a new iPod nano 4GB today and before hooking it up to my computer I had a few questions:
    1) Can I transfer all my music from my original iTunes onto my new Nano?
    2) Can I do this off-line?
    3) I have my computer from college with over 3GB of music and it is operated by my original iTunes; can I get music off of the old computer?

If your old computer meets the requirements for iTunes 7 or later and the 2nd gen nano...and you still have access to the old computer in order to connect your ipod to then yes to all 3 questions. If you can't get online you won't be able to update your iPod firmware from the old computer and you won't be able to purchase any new songs from iTunes...but you can get what's already in the library

  • New Nano - battery indicator faulty?

I just set up my new Nano and charged it overnight through my laptop's USB - it charged up fine and the battery icon showed up as a full green battery. It ran down over about 5 hours. When I connected back to the laptop the screen showed that the battery was recharging for about 5 minutes and then the battery icon showed up as "half green" indicating a partial charge. Within minutes the battery icon turned to gray and a note appears on the screen stating "No battery power." Is there something that has gone wrong with the battery? Is it possible that the USB connection never did charge the iPod and I was running on the stored power that came with the unit? I have already downloaded the Nano update on-line and tried resetting my unit.
Does anyone know of an actual help line that I can call for advice on this - I have scanned the on-line help modules and not found anything that addresses this problem. Does Apple provide real live customer service????

Dave- Exact same thing happened to me....my guess is that your Nano is fine, but you may not have enough juice coming out of all your laptop ports. Let me explain...
When I first got my nano, the battery was already nearly charged, but I decided to make sure it had a "full" charge just to make sure, so I connected it through my laptop's USB port (it indicated it was taking a charge for about 20 miuntes, then it showed the "fully charged" battery icon). It then played for a good 12 hours until I let it run out.
When I went to re-charge it through the same port, I noticed it was not properly charging (i.e., it didn't show me the "charging" icon), and even though it was plugged in for 5 hours, it only played about 5 minutes of play before it died. My guess was that the first time I was charging the Nano, it wasn't really charging it.....it was already fully charged at the factory. Instead it was simply taking just enough power to set off the Nano's "charging" battery icon. So then, when the battery was fully discharged, the USB port didn't actually have enough power to truly re-charge a fully depleted battery.
I'm saying this because when I charged it with the A/C adaptor (a third party product designed for the mini and the Nano) or through my home computer's "charged" USB port, it indicated it was "charging" right away. I also noticed that it only did this with the two front USB ports , but not the back (again, when I plugged it into a port that wasn't "charged", the battery icon wouldn't appear).
So my guess is to try using an a/c adaptor (which is good to have anyway, since you may not always be at a computer) or try testing out different ports on your PC to see which one carries a charge.

  • Using Current iTunes Library With New Nano

My daughter's iPod Mini seems to have played it's last song and a new 2G Nano is on it's way. Is there anything that I need to do that may not be printed in the manual to transfer her current iTunes library on our PC to the new Nano? We run Windows XP. Should all of her Playlists transfer as well? Will there be any issue of these songs already being on her old (an now dead) iPod?
    Thank you for your help!!

  • Itunes problems with new nano, purchased songs

Hello all. I am having a few problems with my itunes and newly purchased nano that hopefully you guys can give me some advice on. First of all, when i plug in my nano, it does not recognize it unless i close itunes and reopen it. Then, it takes a few minutes to open and acts like it is a new nano every time i open it. Meaning, it asks me to name the nano and asks me to apply all the settings etc. After that it works. I then can eject it. If I then re open itunes, with my nano not plugged in, itunes thinks that my nano is plugged in and says its corrupted. If i attempt to do anything in itunes, it freezes up.
In an unrelated problem, i am forced to authorize my computer to play my purchased songs every time i open itunes. It never remembers when I authorize it.
Thanks in advance for your help i definitely appreciate it!

OK, could not resist. I did go ahead and put my old run history back into the new & now restored Nano. No problems. Everything is fine. (Be remember, this is not something that is supported or approved by Apple or Nike.)
There may be no connection between adding the old run data files to the new Nano and the sound & freezing problems. Others have already complained about those.
However, what I will say is that you should never mess around with the Nike+ xml "Preferences" file or the "Best" file. These are invisible for a reason. You can put your old xml run data files into your "latest" folder and thus get them on your new Nano, but you CANNOT change your Totals on your new Nano no matter what you muck around with. However, if you try it and things go wrong, doing a "restore" should save the day.
And it should save the day for sound problems and recurring Nano freezes unless you have a defective Nano.
