New Safari with Yosemite opening annoying ad pages

Since my update to Yosemite Safari is opening automatically annoying ad pages when I click a link on a page like eBay or others.
I'm running a Mac Book Pro 17" 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Any ideas?

Go step by step and test.
1. If adware is installed without your knowledge,
    download  free AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
     http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
   Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
   Once scanning and removing the adware is done, quit the app by clicking AdMedic in the menubar
    and selecting “Quit AdwareMedic”.
Safari
2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    Turn those off one by one and relaunch Safari again to test
3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
    Press “Remove all website data” button.

    That looks like a perfectly good PDF, but since it's trying to open in Microsoft Word, that means your file association for .pdf files is incorrect.  You should change it to point to Adobe Reader instead of Word.

    The "s" in "https" indicates the site is a secure server--usually a site that will require a password.  Connections to secure servers can be blocked by parental controls.  Are you using any parental controls, either through OSX's settings (in System Preferences) or third party parental control software (such as Netnanny)?  If so, check the settings to make sure they will allow the connection.

    Thanks, At least I know I am not the only one. I have had nothing but problems down loading Lion. First I did not have enough memory so I spent $128 for up grade to 4 GB. Then I down loaded Lion and it crushed my disc and spent another $181 to up grade to a T1. Then down loaded Lion to find out a lot of bugs with it. For what was to cost me $29.95 end up costing me $339.
    You would think I would learn by now not to up grade at once. I am one of the dummies that spent $699 for the first iPhone for them too drop the price weeks later.
    If I figure out answer I will post for you asap.

    Ralph..........Did as you suggested and I am still getting the message "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding".  I am not able to connect with anything on the Internet.  Frustrating since I am able to connect with my laptop.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Can anybody help please. All the other devices in my house are working well, no internet problems at all. Mavericks on my MacBook is fine with the internet.     Open ‘System Preferences’
    Locate and open the ‘General’ menu
    Near the bottom uncheck the box that says “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”

    I upgraded from an 8-year old iMac to a new iMac with Yosemite. After migrating everything over, I can't run PSE because it said some files were missing. I re-installed the software using my original disk. Then I got a 150:30 Error. Help!

    You can never, never migrate an installed copy of PSE. It's just too complex and has bits scattered all over your hard drive. Unfortunately, one of the things that does migrate is the file that tells PSE it's not on the authorized drive anymore. To deal with this at this point you will need to download and run this:
    Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
    After which you can go around and manually remove all the bits of PSE that you can find, not only from Applications, but also from the library at the top level of your hard drive>application support>adobe, and your username>library>preferences. Spotlight will not help you here; it's programmed to skip these kinds of files. If you need help finding those libraries, post back.

    Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

    I am not a Mac person but it sounds to me CS4 is too old for Yosemite.

  • When I click on safari (anywhere) it opens an ad page on a new tab

    My problem is pretty much the similar problem here in safari when I click on something, it opens up an ad in new tab . Basically wherever I click on safari (e.g.. text) it opens a new tab with an ad on it.
    I bought the MacAir just a week ago, it is an early 2014, OS Yosemite 10.10.1. I dowloaded a malware most probably, since I was new to Mac World. I though I am really missing a needed extension since the video I was trying to watch was not showing. Anyway I learned my lesson but the problem is with me now.
    As in the above discussion page many solved similar problems with the help of Linc Davis' solution. But it does not seem working for me, maybe as Davis said the malware changed itself. I cannot find those mentioned folders in anyway. That is why I am opening a new discussion.
    PS: There was an app came with something I downloaded which I was suspected to be that malware app. I forgot the name of it now but I deleted the app later on. However the problem did not go with it.
    Please help, it is really annoying.

    I have the same problem (10.7.2., Safari 5.1.2 on an iMac). In System>Preferences>General >Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. (Uncheck). The box is unchecked. In Safari>Preferences>General I have the following settings:
    New windows open with: Same page
    New tabs open with: Same page
    Homepage: http://www.nytimes.com/
    Whenever I open Safari I get a blank page (and I have to click on the Home Page icon). This has never happened in my Power PC with Lion (now sadly in computer heaven) nor my MacBook with Snow Leopard. Closing windows individually or closing  Safari itself doesn't matter. Re-opening Safari gets me a blank page. Any advice?
