New sequence render issues???

I have started a new sequence in my current project and have been unable to drop the footage I am using into the timeline of my new sequence without getting the red line and unrendered message. When I click on the other sequence tab and drop the same cut into it I have no problems......Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong??

The sequence with the render bar doesn't match the footage settings. Why don't you just duplicate the sequence that works, remove all the clips from it, and use that as your new sequence.
If you have FCP6, just create a new sequence of any type and it will conform to the first clip you drop into it if you've set this up in your user preferences.

  • Low Memory Environment Render Issues...

    Howdy folks,
I've been working on a 13 minute promotional video for a non-profit summer camp. It is made up of mostly still images with some ken burns effects, a narration track, a music track, some titles, and some logo overlays.
I am doing this on a 3.2 Ghz P4 with only 1.5G ram under XP sp3. I realize this is not an ideal PPro box.
Windows XP is configured to use 2 drives for VM paging (3Gigs each). All drives have over 100gigs of free space on them.
Now until recently I've only had a couple of small issues which I suspected were related to trying to do this in a low memory environment. In one case a flash render would die at the same point every time (error was something along the lines of "did not return a valid frame"), and simply scaling down the still image clip at that point in the sequence so that it was closer to the project size took care of it. That method also helped in a few cases where some images would not render at all, and just appeared as black screens in the final video (the render process did not fail, but the end result was missing clips).
Then there was one case it seemed to fail at random points. A simple reboot took care of that, and it exported just fine.
But now, however..... Now it's back to failing at random points (sometimes it gets 3500 frames in... sometimes as far as 13400... or anywhere in between) and additionally, by viewing the incomplete flash video file with VLC (which I need to do in order to find out where it failed because PPro never tells me) I find that some of the images are black screens, as before.
The problem now, is that it's never the same point of failure, and it's never the same images blacked out. And rebooting and or killing off extra processes does not help.
Now this was rendering fine last week. Here's the kicker - I haven't changed much of anything since then. The project is still the same length, with just about the same number of cuts, tracks, and assets used. The only things I've done since then are:
         1) I duplicated the sequence so that I can make some changes unique to the web-version of the video, and still save the old sequence to go back to. The old sequence has remained untouched and I haven't even looked at it since then.
         2) Created 2 new titles and inserted them in place of some old ones in the new sequence which weren't appropriate for the web version of the video (only the text is different in these new titles... they are the same style, size, etc. as the old ones they replaced)
         3) I shortened some empty time/space/pauses between sections of the sequence.
So those are all minor changes... but I can't shake the rendering issue no matter how many times I restart or scale down an image that was blacked out or appears at one of the random points of outright failure (again, with the "did not return a valid frame" issue).
I did notice that after I duplicated the original sequence, the project takes much longer to open. Does having another sequence present in the asset bin use that much more resources? Even if the clips in that 2nd sequence use the same assets as another? I'm tempted to remove the original sequence and see what happens, but I don't want to lose it and have to un-edit the web version whenever I want to go back and re-render the DVD version.
So basically I'm looking for anything that might cause the small changes I made to be giving me so much grief now.
         Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

You may have a corrupt project. Try creating a new project and importing the old one into it.
If you still experience problems then carefully do each of these troubleshooting tips. One or more of them is likely to help.
    Cheers

  • Changes to master nested sequence not updating in new sequence

Good morning - I have spent the past half hour or so searching the forum for this topic but have not found the answer. If the answer exists elsewhere, please point me in that direction; otherwise, here goes:
I created a nested sequence by simply dragging one sequence (A) from the browser into a new sequence (B) in the timeline. Later, I went back to Seq A and replaced all of the audio (which was in-camera audio) with clean audio from a Tascam field recorder. So far so good. However, Seq B still plays the original camera audio and is not reflecting any of the changes I made to Seq A.
I tried deleting audio render files, quitting and restarting FCP, etc., all to no avail. I have the latest versions of the OS and FCP. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

As you've probably found there are several ways to create/edit nests into sequences. The manual points out an advantage of using nested sequences is you can make a change and that change will be reflected in all the subsequent nests. As you've also found out, this isn't exactly true.
The only way I've found to have communications carry forward to nests from the original sequence is if I edit the sequence into another sequence via the Canvas overlay/edit keyboard shortcuts from the Viewer. I've found dragging and dropping to do as you've found.

  • Working in FCP6, open a project, sequence not showing ANY fonts from motion master templates. Start new sequence and they appear fine. Whats up with it?

So here's what I've got: one of the first gen Intel Macbooks with 2gb RAM, running a fresh install of FCS2, fully updated. I pulled out my external with my project on it (saved in the same version), that I keep my demo reel updated on. I've always used the motion text master template files to label each clip and for some reason, this round the text isn't appearing. Let me be clear just how weird this is: the template file will show up in the viewer, but any file set in this sequence will be blank. If there is any graphics to the file, IT shows up, but not the text. I opened up a new sequence and and first added a new master file to it, and it showed up on that sequence. I then went to the old sequence and copy/pasted the clips in it to the new sequence and the text shows up as well. What is up with the original sequence that is causing this issue??? Any thoughts? (unfortunately, my copy of Final Cut is a "Not for Resale" (NFR) so I can't call in for support.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi Miro,
I was just experiencing a similar problem today.  In my situation I was getting the diagonal lines and the new project wasn't actually being trimmed, it was the same size as the original with all of the media from the original project .
It turns out that even though I was selecting 3 specific sequences out of 20 the Project Manager was ignoring that selection, it brought over those 3 sequences but all of the media from the other sequences.  I think this is what was creating the problem.
The trim unused media box  (or whatever the check box says) was greyed out.
My solution was to create a new clean project and import the 3 sequences I wanted to create a new trimmed project from.
Then using the Project Manager everything worked as expected, the project was trimmed down and there were no diagonal lines.  I unchecked the "rename media" option, not sure if that was necessary part of the solution.
This seems like a bug to me, we shouldn't have to create a new project, it's an extra unwanted step and clutter on our systems.
    Hope that helps!
I'm on Mac 10.8.5 and Premiere 7.0.1, eagerly awaiting to update once the bug fixes to the bug fixes are fixed.

  • Apple Pro Res 422 / FCP7 render issues

    Hello,
I do a lot of timelapses and have pretty good workflow for all this. However, I am experiencing one issue that makes everything a bit difficult. I appreciate if anybody could help me.
    My workflow is:
    1. Shoot some stills RAW
    2. Develop in Adobe Camera RAW
    3. Import stills sequence and render in AfterEffects CS4 to AppleProRes 422
    4. Import to FCP7 and edit
    5. Grading / color correction
    6. Publishing
All works fine, however I am having very often an unpredictable issues with the Apple Pro Res 422 codec under FCP7.
I always render a bunch of sequences from AE using the same settings for all files. The only difference is resolution.
My render settings for exporting from AE are:
    - Apple Pro Res 422 wrapped in MOV
    - render in 10-bit YUV from RAW 16 bit sequence files
    - AE project in 16 bit
    - Resolutions of rendered all files around 3500x2500 px, this vary from file to file.
The sequences render fine in AE.
The sequences play properly in QT, I can import them to FCP properly, play in FCP properly. I can drag to timeline, scale, rotate, scrub etc.
However: Some sequences fail to render in FCP7.
When I drag them to my working sequence in timeline (Usually a Full HD 1080p, Pro Res 422, YUV), scale down (usually) and try to render timeline footage (don't mean exporting here yet) I get the following error:
"Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."
This happens on many computers including iMac, MacbookPro and a Mac Pro.
I discovered that setting the footage size to even width and height figures when exporting from AE eliminates the problem sometimes, but it does not help in all cases.
Also it sometimes help if i take such sequence, crop and export using QT under the same settings, just a few pixels less in size. But again - it helps sometimes.
Can anybody help me with these?
    Anybody experiencing similar issues?
    Thanks a lot.

I had the same problem when we started to edit on Pro Res timelines. The solution I found was to go the Sequence Settings > Video Processing > and change the Render setting to "Render in 8-bit YUV" that allowed me to actually render the timeline and view my work. Hope that helps.

  • Playback and render issues Premiere Pro CS6 on Mac

I have been having very "skippy" and sluggish issues when it comes to playback and editing. I have deleted all the old render files from my project and my hard drive, but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me? I'm not sure if it is a space issue or what, but I haven't had much of these problems before. I know it's not a sequence settings issue, so I am very confused. My footage all comes from a Maxell P2 Eseries card and my computer specs are:

  • Won't start a new sequence

I tried to start a new project and bring up a new sequence but it does not show up on the timeline no matter how many times I try it.  So I tried to open a previous project to do it quickly and it gives me the message "The project contained a sequence that could not be opened.  No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type" which I'm assuming is probably part of the same issue.  Anyone know what the heck is going on.

  • Wrong sequence settings used on my timeline; can I copy the timeline to a new sequence with correct settings?

The clip properties are Frame size 1440x1080, 23.98 fps (yes a problem for FCE), Compressor:  Apple Intermediate Codec, but unfortunately I did all of my hard work on a 30 minute film on a sequence that has SD settings (Frame size 720x480), 29.97 fps, compressor: DV/DVCPRO- NTSC. I first noticed there was a problem when I could only get the exported quicktime movie to appear as a 4:3 when it was supposed to be a 16:9.  I have overcome that problem by exporting using quicktime conversion and customizing the settings to reflect the correct item properties of the original clips.
But my concern is that my project is still fundamentally based on a timeline that was created in a sequence with SD settings and that maybe I have lost some resolution quality.  I am sitting here looking at the iDVD preview and I am not always sure it looks as sharp as the same clip viewed in FCE dropped in a sequence with the right settings.  But maybe iDVD preview isn't as sharp, or maybe it's just myimagination.  Any thoughts?
Ideally, what I would liketo do is to copy my timeline out of the first sequence with the wrong settings, and to copy it into a new sequence with the proper settings.  But I am wondering if that timeline is now "infected" with the wrong settings, and brings these over to the new sequence.  The guy on the Apple help linetold me this was unfortunately the case.  Am I really going to have tocompletely do this work over again to get a completely correct workflow?
    Any way around this?

    Al,
very much appreciate your time on this.  Hopefully just one more question.  I am trying to figure out whether or not converting the tremendous amount of footage I have from this project shot in 24p will be worth it.  In my mind, it is only worth it, if by not doing it, I will end up with a finished product that does not have as good of a picture quality.  At this point, I dont care at all about having the 'film look' 24p is supposed to give you, I just dont the picture quality degraded somehow because FCE doesnt support 24p, and I am using a 29.97fps sequence to edit it.
So with all of that said, my question is this:
    1.  When you said before that when a clip hits a sequence it conforms to the properties of the sequence, what do you think is happening to the clip?  For instance, if the clip in the Browser as you shot it has got 1440 pixels for every 1080 lines and you place it on a 720x480 sequence, is some of that information literally disappearing?  That seems hard to believe.  I would think that kind of conversion would require a program to execute it and some processing time, but the drag and drop on a sequence is instantaneous.  And my HD footage on the SD sequence still seems to look better to me than my SD stuff, although that could just be perception.  Same issue with the frame rate.  When I drag and drop a 24fps clip onto a sequence set for 29.97 fps, how can the clip now have more frames per second?  That would be additonal information that was never captured in the first place.  How is that possible?  I do believe that the clips are changed in some way that affects the output, but it doesnt seem possible that 'conforming' to the properties of the sequence is the same thing as if you shot the original footage with those sequence settings. Something else must be meant by that right?
    2.  Will converting the original clips in streamclip change the frame rate..them from 24p to 29.97?  If they are still 24p, then don't you still run into the same problem when you edit in FCE?  And if they are changed to 29.97, how is that better than just dropping them onto a sequence set to HDV 1080 29.97fps and having it conform to that?  What exactly is the upshot of doing the streamclip conversion?  Especially if I don't care about the 24p look now.

  • Insert a clip into a new sequence, the clip will not play back

Macbookpro 8G ram twin 2.5 Intel, 1333 Mhz
I am an experienced editor coming over from AVID.  This is my second project attempt in Premiere. First was fine. I imported clips that live on my hard drive.  When I make a clip selection, mark the in and out and "insert into a new sequence, the sequence will not play back un less I render it first. I am talking about one (1) shot maybe 3 seconds long.  I have done no other edits in the sequence and have added no effects but there is an effect icon on the clip in the sequence,  This can't be right. It is not the way it worked for my first test project.  It would take 40 hours to edit a 60 second spot…  What has happened here?
Footage is 1080p 24fps.  Short with a digital DSLR and Files are the same (.mov)  as in the first project,

I have exactly the same problem. All of a sudden preview window is not working properly. In some projects it only plays audio with gray screen, in some it doesn't plays at all or plays audio from another projects. Sometimes preview gets frozen with the first frame in the project. I can however play video from Event Library, but without any sound. When I create new project and drag clips from Library, it plays with gray screen and again without sound. Restarting iMovie or Mac is no help. I'm using iMovie 8.0.6
Waiting for help desparatly, thank you

  • FCP 7 on Macbook Air 11" (canvas playback  & sequence/render)

My high school students are using FCP 7 on Macbook Airs. One problem a few of them are encountering is playback in the Canvas-- the resolution is very low and when I go to their Playback Video Quality setting in the Timeline, the only options are Dynamic or Low. Why are Medium and High greyed out?
Also, sometimes the video 'stutters' in the Canvas. The footage we are currently working with has all been transcoded into ProRes LT.
Also, when I match the settings to the clips formats, the students all still need to render. Yet, on my computer (also a Macbook Air with FCP 7), when I do the same thing (match the settings to the clip), I do not need to render.
All of these problems seem to be related to format/compression....the only one I've experienced on my computer is the stutter. The Playback and Render issues are not happening to me, nor to all of the students.
I've looked through all the possible settings everywhere and I can't see what is different about the macbooks that work vs. the ones that do not.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

I don't have the MB Air at hand right this minute, but I think I remember all the details. I converted Flip Camera files using Compressor with these settings: 1280 x 720, ProRes(LT), SQ, 30 fps, No Field dominance. And I set the Sequence settings to match exactly.
The odd thing is, on some of the MB Airs (these are from this summer, so a recent iteration), there is no playback issue. But, on all of them, even when I set the Sequence to match the clip formats, they all require Renders. My "teacher" macbook Air is basically the same configuration yet mine does not require a Render when I match the footage to the sequence. Also, I have no Playback issues (except the occasional stutter, which I can solve usually), while some of my students do. Why is their High & Medium Playback greyed out regardless of Safe RT or not?
    Thanks!
p.s. : All being store on the internal drive.

  • New sequence from clip not really matching my clips

We mainly do motion graphics and 3D animation, so I use Premiere Pro almost exclusively to edit together such pieces rendered out of After Effects using the Pro Res 4444 codec.  As an FCP user, my instinct was that if I invoked creating a New Sequence from one of those clips Premiere would create a sequence that would match my Pro Res 4444 clip exactly.  It doesn't.  It matches the size and frame rate, but creates a sequence with the Editing mode set to ARRI Cinema, I-Frame Only MPEG Preview File Format, MPEG I-Frame codec, and my pristine ProRes 4444 ends up with a yellow render bar in the sequence.
    Am I missing something?
I have to select custom from the Editing mode and manually select ProRes 4444, etc.  Not a big deal.  I could save that preset.  Just wondering why that function doesn't totally match my source clip.
    Thanks.

Being a recent FCP devotee I will see if I can interpret what this person expected.
By dropping a Prores 422 clip on the Make Sequence button, I will hazard a guess that he expected to see a Prores 422 sequence created. In the FCP workflow that  is the desire sequnce to play that clip in. What he is seeing in the second image (the sequence settings) is an AVCHD 1080 anamorphic sequence. And hes not sure why its not Prores.
Im sure once he reads the links Todd provided he will understand he is not in Appleland anymore and that there is a different workflow with PrP.
    How did I do?   ;-)

  • How can I export photos from Aperture with a new sequence and ignore the embedded JPEG number? Have tried renumbering to no avail.

How can I export photos from APERTURE with a new sequence and ignore the embedded JPEG number? Have tried renumbering to no avail.
    has anyone resolved this issue?
This is now the second big Problem with using Apple's Appeture with NO apparent FIX...
Aperture has NO DIRECT way to Burn to a CD/DVD & apparently NO way to RE-SEQUENCE the numbering system????
ANYONE... I wish APPLE would address/fix these 2 problems... LIGHTROOM I guess is next?

    Hi David,
Coming in and whining loudly is rude.  We are all volunteers here, voluntarily sharing our expertise so that users like you can make the most of their time with Aperture.  Speaking just for myself:  although I do care about your success with software (it's why I'm here), I don't care what software you use.  If you want to use Lightroom, do so, and post your questions in an appropriate forum.
Burning files to a CD is a file operation done at the system level (it is built into OS X).  Aperture lets your create sharable image-format files from your Images.  You then use OS X's tools to burn those files to a CD.  Iirc, you can set up a "Burn Folder" in Finder, into which you can export files created from your Images, and with a single click burn your CD.
Naming the files you create by exporting your Images can be tricky.  There are _many_ possibilities.  Some things can't be done.  Sequencing can be done in a number of ways (see Léonie's answer above).  What have you tried?  What was the result?  In what way did this differ from what you expected?

  • 560GTX render issue help please

I've got the MSI 560GTX-Ti twin frozr video card in my Sandy Bridge system.  It is NOT overclocked, I am running it at all factory resets.  This is the second card I have received and they have both had some rendering issues.  I'm using the latest drivers from Nvidia 266.66
Everything looks good in general usage, but when I play the game Rift (using High settings) I am getting some rendering artifacts.  The card does not appear to be overheating as far as I know.  I have run Furmark and it looks ok.  Temps do go up to close to 70c but no graphic anomalies show up.  In Afterburner the settings are all stock factory settings.  At no time in the game does the fan seem to crank up to be audible.
I would include an image of the screen but don't know how.  Basically the landscape will display square beams of texture protruding from random areas of the screen.  Any ideas on what is going on and how it can be fixed?
    Willax
edit:  I ran Furmark right after getting the render issues in RIFT and the fur donut had some holes in it, the temperature was running close to 70c
Then I changed the fan speed from AUTO to 70 percent and the temp in Furmark dropped to a steady 65 but there were still render issues with holes and extended triangles in the donut.
It seems that this card is getting too hot and not rendering correctly, but it shouldn't be happening.  I even turned the fan up to 100% and although it got loud the temp did not change
    very much from 65c

Well, I clicked those items and told it would be active after I started afterburner.  I restarted and the voltage slider was not active.  Nothing I clicked would let me do anything.  I hadn't really planned on doing any o/c stuff with this card, but purchased it because of the GREAT reviews on it.  I prefer to run at stock settings, and it's not giving me very good performance with those
I'm glad I got the extra year warranty on it and will probably call New Egg tomorrow to replace it.
