New tips for Java developers

Hello to all Java developers!
I’m new to the forum and I wanna say all of you hi. Wanna give you a link to one very interesting article on java development (Video Conversion System Implementation)
http://techzone.enterra-inc.com/video/video-conversion-system-implementation/
I want to discuss it with you here.

In what way is that a tip for Java Developers? In what way is it related to Java Programming?

  • JasperReports for Java Developers book just released.

    JasperReports for Java Developers book by Packt Publishing is for Java developers who want to create rich reports for either the web or print, and want to get started quickly with JasperReports to do this. No knowledge of JasperReports is presumed, although obviously familiarity with Java, SQL, and XML are assumed where they are required.

  • Any new tips for making Garageband run quicker (Delay/Lag)?

    Hey all
    AI was just wondering if anyone had come up with any new tips for making Garageband run quicker? Theres such a delay form when I move the cursor or press play to when anything actually happens.
    Ive tried everything here
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/Optimize.html
    But its not really made anything quicker
    I don't know where this option is though?
    Make sure your Energy Saver System Prefs is set to Highest Performance, if this is an option
    I'm not using any effects/plugins (yet) on my song, but will start mixing EQing/using plugins soon so need to try and stop
    It really slowed down when I recorded (and copy pasted) a load of handclaps into it over the entire song and onto multiple tracks.
    I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Ive got 120GB of space left on my 500GB hard drive
    Any ideas or newer tips anyone?
    I'm running 39 tracks by the way.
    Thanks

  • New Features for Java GUI

    Hello everyone!
    Can anybody tell about new features in SAP GUI for Java. I think It's emasculate now. It doesn't contain New ABAP editor, Network graphic, normal Screen Painter... I really enjoy adding themes and other stuff, but when these functionality will be added?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
      I use Java GUI from version 6.40, so i didn't know new ABAP editor for years. Once somebody shows me its features ...and I found that it is really good editor compared with previous Notepad-like frontend editor. But I have to say that customized version od Gvim used as external editor is in 90% better then new ABAP editor (the only problem is that double click on object doesn't work, but some workarounds are known for double-click on locally defined objects).
    Graphical screen painter is generally good tool, but once I cannot find any feature (sorry, I forgot which one, it happens about 6 years ago). I ask a SAP guru sitting near me. He comes, switch graphical screen painter off and click to a box in non-graphical version of screen painter. Then he told me that some features are not accessible in graphical screen painter. It was last time I used graphical version of screen painter.
    Themes? Works .... at least for me (Linux 32 bit and now Linux 64 bit too).
    So I think that Java GUI is usable (at least on Linux/Mac, I am not sure how in works under Windows) but you cannot stick on all features (and maybe you can find better working variants of it). E. g. I have no problem with new ABAP editor, it would be much better for me, if I can open external editor clicking to "Change" button in SE38 directly instead of click plus selecting external editor from menu.

  • Best Tips for Java Beginners?

    Hello all,
    I study at Open United kingdom (Information Technology), and started to study basics of Java.
    We use Netbeans, & I wanted to ask experts here what's the best way to develop myself at Java programming?
    "Practice, Practice, & Practice...", thats what the material says.. But I need some sources to guide me with simple Java programs to start to practice with...
    so please share any tip may be useful to Java beginners from your own experience.
    Thanks.

    Tips for beginners that I have taught in the past and from me:
    0 - The debugger is your friend. Learn to use it, before you lean any more Java. REALLY!!!
    1 - Do NOT use the GUI development tool in your IDE, Code it yourself.
    2 - Read the Java Tutorials.
    3 - Java arrays begin with index 0.
    4 - Do NOT confuse leaning Java with learning to program. They are 2 distinct things.
    The language is a tool, but knowing how to program is a skill that will apply to many different tools.
    5 - There are more languages than Java, keep in mind each, including Java, were created for different tasks.
    6 - Develop your own style.
    7 - You are never done learning. NEVER.
    8 - Don't be afraid to modify your style, when you see something elegant, adopt it, make it part of your style.
    9 - If you're not having fun, you're doing the wrong thing.
    10 - Math is a major part of programming: you can never have too many Math skills.
    11 - Embrace the Java philosophy... write once, run anywhere a JVM exists.
    12 - Dumb code is actually better: don't get overly involved in optimizing your code--write it clean--Java will do the rest.
    13 - Learn to use your profiler, for when you really need to see if you can optimize. The problem is usually not where you think.
    14 - No matter how good you are, someone is always better and faster--when you encounter them, learn from what they do and use the good parts.
    15 - 800 lines of buggy code is not as good as 50 lines of clean, well designed code.
    16 - Your teacher is not always right, but they give you the grades.
    17 - Your boss may be an idiot, but he had the good sense, or lapse there of, to offer you a job and you accepted. He's your boss now, act like it, and help him look good--you'll go farther with a lot less stress. Also remember you future boss may want to contact him for a reference.

  • ABAP for Java Developers

    Hi,
    I'm a Java developer that developed some Java Web Dynpro for my company.
    Unfortunately my boss said to me that we don't have work to do on Java Web Dynpros and told me to learn ABAP Web Dynpros.
    Is there any resource or quick reference for Java Programmers (who knows object oriented programming and how to make a Java Web Dynpro) to learn object-oriented ABAP and what are the differences in writing an ABAP Web Dynpro?
    Thank you,

  • New Website for Java Game Downloads...

    Hi There,
    I hope this is the right place to post something like this, but I was on the forums back in December and needed advice on how to make executable .jar files, and now that I figured it out successfully, I wanted to share it with some fellow computer programmers in here.
    I have created four games programmed in the JAVA language, and they are all based on television game shows, including SUPER PASSWORD, BLOCKBUSTERS, SCRABBLE, and LINGO.
    They can be downloaded here:
    http://www.super-password.com/ctvgsd - Classic TV Game Show Downloads.
    All of the games, coding, sounds, pictures, and everything else was made by yours truly. If you're interested, take a look at it for yourself and see how the games are and if you think they are good!
    The website will also give you info on downloading the zip files and how to play each of the games!

  • New user for java (Data type conversion)

    Hi all, I'm the newer from JAVA, just start to learn it few weeks before, there have some problem about me.
    I want to konw how to change the data type ??For example, if I have a string call year and store the char "1", how can I change that field to int type ?
    Thanks very much

    You should have a link to, or download, the API docs. You can see them on line at:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/index.html
    Look up the class Integer. It has a static method, parseInt() which takes a String argument and returns an int.. Since it is static, you can do the following:
    int value = Integer.parseInt(your_string);
    Then, to make it robust, you can put try/catch around it and catch NumberFormatException if you need to do error checking.

  • New improvement for Java syntax

    Hi developers
    I develop in java each day and the new project that I am envolved uses too much multithreading. So i thought that a litle improvement could be made on java syntax.
    When two threads uses the same class attribute we must synchronize the access to this.
    class myClass {
    private int myAtribute = 0;
    thread1: We must access the attribute synchronized....
    shynchronized (this) {
    myAttribute = 1;
    thread2: The same....
    synchronized (this) {
    myAttribute = 3;
    thread2: But if i don't care.... :-(
    myAttribute = 4;
    Ok, that is the problem.
    I thought to solve this the java language must give us the chance to declare attributes in the way...
    private synchronize int myAttribute = 0;
    to be only accesed by sinchronized methods or by synchronized blocks in order to force interpreter to check if any method access this attribute without being synchronized in compiling time.

    In your example, wouldn't the volatile keyword normally suffice?
    private volatile int myAttribute = 0;Graeme

  • TODAYS LITTLE CHALLENGE  FOR JAVA DEVELOPERS!!!

    This challenge is related to EventListener.
    I initialized a String i.e
    String data = "myname";
    What i wnat to do;
    whenever the string data changes some event generate's so that in Listener
    method i received the the data .
    What kind of Listener should be used i not no.
    Be sure not to initialize like this "static String data = "myname";
    Example:
    String data = "myname";
    data.add...Listener(this);
    for(int i = 0; i< 10; i++)
    data = "myname"+i;
    public event...Listaner( Event ...e)//Event listener
    string s = e.getdata();// OR some other function
    Thank's

    First, I think this is a cool idea, and there is a new language specifically designed to achieve this kind of event programming.
    Second, I don't think this can be done with the Java language, at least not with the current Java architecture. Among the few problems implementing this, the greatest obstacle is here:
    String data = "myname";
    data = "myname"+i;Now, to event trigger this data = "myname" + i; , or to the JVM data = new String("myname" + i); , is problematic. The String variable data did not change value, it changed its reference. You can not intercept the = operator in Java. You can not change the String constructor behavior legally. (Well, even you do, it applies to all Strings and not just the data variable).
    So, the only work around solution to achieve a similar effect is to wrap the String class to a MutableString class. (Note: wrap, not extend) And expose get/set method for this wrapper string class, then you can do whatever listener in the get/set method of your class. However, you still can not add listener for object reference change.
    The above is only my take though. Do you have the answer to the challenge? I would love to hear others or the answer.

    We are planning on using JSF for our web interface. How much of an impact does server side component have on performance. What if i have 25 faces components on a page (role based components) that are sent to the server. What happens if the user gets frustrated and hits a submit button 4 times. How does events get queued. Can you control that. I like Java based technologies but when it comes to performance I think we can do better.

  • I'm  a new bie for JAVA Development

    Hi All,
    I'm going to start JAVA development as my full time so far I was in support. I have worked with the basic level of JAVA as a support engineer. I have read Kathy, Sierra's Head First JAVA and the SCJP preliminary exams books. I wish to know for what books I can go on to read next. Seeking for friends's and experts suggestion before I move to buy.  Your suggestions and ideas are welcome.
    Thanks
    Mohammed@@

    Hi Mohammed,
    for starters it's Java (no acronym). Books are a very subjective thing. Have a look at the ratings and comments on different books on amazon, visit a local bookstore and flip through a couple of books. Nobody here knows what you'll need int future.

  • ITunes a new tip for photos manually add

    Dear Apple users,
    Hello I have a very good improvement for iTunes makers. Must not only do manual for music but also for pictures and maybe even for videos. Because that would be much easier, and is a new improvement and a plus point yet people ..??

    Have you checked the iTunes preferences: General > Automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet...
    Many prefs need resetting after updates.

  • New admin for java web server

    Hi,
    i just installed Sun Java System Web Server 7.0. besides intsalling it, i don't know how to use it.
    I am looking to add some files so users can view them. how do i go about doing that? I have no clue?
    I don't know how to use it just yet but can follow instructions rather well.
    i am a unix admin.
    thanks
    ~jv

    Ok.. it depends what type of content do you want to add.
    You can start by dropping html documents in your instance's document root directory, usually /sun/webserver7/https-configname/docs.
    making sure the server instance is running, hit the pages. And voila, you should be able to see it.

  • What will Windows Vista mean to Java Developers?

    I just happened to read my first article on Vista today.
    More specifically this awesome (and scathing) top 10 list by
    Windows competetitors:
    http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=195900152
    It made me wonder, though itll take 2-3 years before we see
    widespread adoption of Vista by anyone what does this mean for
    Java developers?
    Do you think the new graphics engine will mean cool new Swing
    components?
    Is Sun working on a new Windows JVM?
    As David Girouard from google points out theres a huge uprising
    in open source software, so anyway i think Java will become even
    more relevant.
    My number one curiosity!!!
    Will Java be able to take advantage of this new Vista desktop Gadgets stuff?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_gadgets
    I think that would be a great area for new Java development.
    Really fun things could be made.
    In researching it though it seems like a ripoff of Yahoo Widgets
    which Wikipedia claims is a JavaScript engine.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konfabulator
    So though Java and JavaScript are hardly the same thing,
    it seems like its been down and could be done better in Java ; )
    If Gadgets is a Windows OS dependent thing it would be nice
    to see Java support for it. THough i guess it would have to be
    3rd party and not part of the core libraries.
    Best Quote Ever: "Our friends up north spend over $5 billion a year on R&D, and yet these days all they seem to be able to do is to try to copy Google and Apple," CEO Steve Jobs said in August at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference.
    Ive seen a lot of lame trolls around lately. I figured a fun conversation is what the forums need lately ; )

    It made me wonder, though itll take 2-3 years before we see
    widespread adoption of Vista by anyone what does this mean for
    Java developers?Not much. Java runs on almost anything, and also on Vista.
    Java on Vista: Yes, it Works (Chet Haase's Blog)
    Do you think the new graphics engine will mean cool new Swing
    components?I'm sure that there will be people who'll write cool new Swing components.
    Is Sun working on a new Windows JVM?Sun is working on a new JVM all the time! Java 6.0 is due to come out in December and they're already working on Java 7.0 also.
    There's no need to write a completely new JVM for Vista, as the current version of the Windows JVM already runs on Vista.
