New version of Numbers and Pages

I've updated my Mac to the most recent OS.  There are some files in Numbers and Pages that were created with the older versions of both.  They were opening just fine until this past weekend.  Now a message appears that says I must update to a newer version.  For more information, it tells me to go to the App store.  I do - there are no updates for either pages or numbers and the most recent versions are already installed on my computer.  Those were both just updated Nov. 22.  Now I can't get my files to open.  What am I missing?  Has anyone else come across this problem?  I'm sure it's just something simple that I'm missing but I can't figure this one out for the life of me.  Please help........

Have you tried manually opening the file from the Finder? It should ask to open using the new Pages or Numbers.

  • How do I paste a hyperlink into the new version of Numbers and show the link name rather than its URL?

I used to be able to do this using paste and match style, but now instead of showing the link name as on the website of origin it is pasting the whole URL. thanks

    Hi Debbsy,
Hyperlinks in Numbers 3 are a bit of a mystery. However, here is one way that works.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6630204
    Debbsy's question
For example, the URL to this thread in Cell A2
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6630204
In Cell B2, insert the HYPERLINK function
    =HYPERLINK(A2,"Debbsy's question")
    Hide Column A.

  • Numbers and Pages files no longer open on iPhone

I'm using version 2.4.2 of both Numbers and Pages on an iPhone 4S in iOS7.1.2.  All of a sudden none of my old files will open.  There is no error message; just nothing happens when I try to open them.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm wondering if the new version of Numbers and Pages only work in iOS8.  I'd rather not upgrade yet unless I'm sure that will fix the issue.

Ok, after syncing with iTunes again everything magically started working again.  Very strange.

  • How do i get my already purchased "numbers" and 'Pages" onto my new iPad??

how can i get my already purchased 'numbers' and 'pages' onto my new ipad?

If you have already purchased the iOS versions of these applications, they will appear in your "Purchases" list in the app store. Register your iPad with the same Apple ID as was used for the purchase, and you will be able to download and install it on the iPad (and on any other iOS device registered under the same Apple ID).
Wayne's response applies if your previous purchase was the Mac OS X version of Numbers and Pages.

  • I Bought Numbers and Pages but the Trial Versions Open Instead!

    Hello everyone, first time here.
Sorry if this has been covered before, I couldn't find anything relating to my issue.
I used the trial version of Numbers and Pages after first purchasing my Macbook last year but later purchased both from the App Store.  If I access a document through Finder it unknowingly opens up the trial version and after editing it the documents won't allow me to save them unless I purchase the programs, which of course I already have.  Whenever I open the application first it seems to work fine.
How do I delete the demo version or at least get the purchased version to open automatically?  Thank you!

It used to be that to update the trial to the licensed version with the box, you just inserted the DVD & ran the installer to convert the trial to licensed. This has changed with Snow Leopard. You now need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.
Then reinstall from the DVD or the Mac App Store.

  • Numbers and pages are not working.. need help

hello i been chatting with Genius Bar team today earlier on, we heve got to the stage when we created Test User profile and figured that Numbers andPages are running in it, it suppose to mean that the is a way to fix those applications settings in order to make them work in the original Profile... can someone tell me what has to be changed in the settings.... Lots of thanks in advanced!!!

You are accidentally launching the wrong version of Numbers (and Pages).
The previous version (which you are launching, probaby from your dock) were moved to the folder "/Applications/iWork '09"
the new Versions are located in the folder "/Applications"  You should be sure you are launching the correct version.  If you ane not sure compare the icons:
I have moved both to my dock to be certain which one I am running:
              Version                              Version
                   2.3                                   3.x

  • New version of Numbers - two important questions

I'm running the new version of Numbers and have some questions.
First let me say that I switched from PC to Mac earlier this year.  I decided I wanted to try Numbers instead of Excel.  Although I do have Office for Mac installed as well.  I setup a basic check register.  The "type" field is a pull down thing so I can select the type of transaction...deposit, debit, etc.  That's still working fine.  I have a description field that is for who or what is being paid or deposited.  The Category field is for the type of item...salary, credit card payment, utility, etc.  In the previous version, I would start typing in those two fields and if I had previously typed something, it would ome up for me to select.  This made things very easy for me.  Now in this new version, that feature is not there.  I did some quick reading in the forum and I believe I read that this feature is no longer in the new version.  Is that correct??  Why they heck did they do that....it makes things harder.  I guess I could try to setup a pull-down for the category field but frankly I don't want to do that.  For the type field (deposit, debit, etc), I don't mind having a pull down as there's not a lot of choices there.  But the category field would have quite a few items.
Second question is another annoying problem...
In the previous version when I opened the file, it would be right where I saved it.  I always save the check register at the start of the next entry so it's right where I need it to open next time.
Every time I open the file (even after saving it with the cursor on the next entry), it opens all the way at the top.  It's extremely annoying to have to scroll all the way down to the next blank entry.  Is there any way to fix this??
I saved a template of this file before I started using it in June.  I will start a new file using the template each year.  I didn't go all the way back to January when I started this file, I just started it from June.  Still have the old Excel file for previous info.  So the file isn't as "long" as next years would be...but it's still very annoying to have to scroll down every time I open the file.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi Jerry,
That's what I do every time.
I select the first cell on the next blank line and save the file.  Although I was using the menu to save & close.
I just tried it again and used the shortcuts for save and close.  I had the cursor in the first cell which is the type cell pull down menu.  Saved, closed and re-opened and it was all the way back at the beginning again.  Tried it once more but this time istead of selecting the pull down cell, I selected the next empty one.  Same thing.  When I re-open it goes back to the beginning.
I don't understand it.  It was fine before I updated to the new version of Numbers.
I checked my budget file.  I scrolled down, clicked a cell and saved it.  Went back in and it was right where I left it.  Strange.  I think I just figured it out....
There were two differences in the files.  The register has the top two lines frozen, the budget doesn't.  The register only has one sheet and it wasn't renamed.  The budget has a sheet for each month named accordingly.  So I went to the register and renamed the sheet.  Scrolled down to the blank entry, saved and closed.  Opened it back up and it was right where I left it.
Don't understand it, but it looks like it's now fixed.
    Thanks.

  • Bought Numbers and Pages after trial of iWork now it says I have to buy...

Has anyone else had the misfortune of trying the trial version of iWorks and then decide to buy numbers or pages alone and then been unable to save a file or save a changed file.I tried to get apple to help but they wanted a serial number which you don't get from the app store. So guys what can I do. I tried to uninstall the old versions of numbers and pages but no good. Please help.

It's not just buying from the Mac App Store, the same thing happens to those who buy & install from the retail box. • Now on Mountain Lion; how do I download new versions of Numbers, Pages, and Keynote?

    Just installed Mountain Lion.
In checking out the iCloud features, it works fine for Preview and TextEdit.
But Numbers and Pages do not seem to be integrated with iCloud. Then I noticed that my version of these is out of date. There are new updates which I need to download to take advantage of the new iCloud integration. But I cannot seem to download them. When I run Software Update, nothing needs updating.
So how do I download these updates?

iWork '09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
You can also download the standalone updater from this page.

  • Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago which I modified on 11/4/13 and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers.  When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed.  Any suggestions?

Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago, which I modified on 11/4/13, and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers.  When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed and there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall it.  When I checked "About Numbers" on my MacBook it shows "Numbers '09 version 2.3".  Any suggestions as to how I can get the new version installed?

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

  • After Mavericks, Keynote, Numbers and Pages don't update to latest version.

OK, I already had the latest Keynote, Numbers and Pages installed for Snow Leopard.
I have upgraded to Mavericks and then updated those softwares.
The thing is that those won't update to the latest versions. When I open any of them it shows the previous (old) version and not Keynote 6, Pages 5 and Numbers 3.
    Any ideas?

Marcos, the Keynote, Numbers and Pages are not replacing the old version. if you have updated through the AppStore you have the new version and the old version installed in your computer!
Go to the spotlight search and type the name Keynote, Numbers and Pages and you will see the icon of the new and old app. double click the new icon and voila you have the new version of the iWorks.

  • When I try to open a spreadsheet on my Mac that I worked on with my iPhone, I get "You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet." When I go to the App store, it says I already have it. I have v. 2.3 and can't seem to download newer version

If you are running Mavericks, and the Mac App store says you are up to date, then you have Numbers 3.2 as well as Numbers 2.3. You are getting the "Need a newer version message because your Mac is trying to open the document using Numbers 2.3.
Launch Numbers 3, then open the document from within that app, or right click/control-click the document and choose Open with Numbers 3.x.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of numbers on my mac. Everytime I save and then try to reopen that document, I receive a message telling me that I need a new version of numbers. Also, when I try to sort the date column, it sorts out of order. The last version sorted fine.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you install the new iWork version, the old iWork version is kept, so it looks like you are opening your old version.
To fix this, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly. Open all documents from this version. I don't recommend you to delete the old Numbers version in case you need it.
Respecting to the second question, you will get better answers in the Numbers for OS X forum

Trying re-purchasing.  won't let me.  says to check for updates?
    any suggestions

It sounds to me as though you are attempting to open a Pages 09 document with the Pages 08 application. If you do have Pages 09 on your computer, it may be that for some reason an existing Pages 08 application is invoked accidentally.
