New Vision Order - Its All gone horribly wrong!

So I called BT to ask to upgrade to Unlimited Broadband, I have always been thinking about Vision so decided to ask.
The package that was offered seemes a good deal so I decided to take BT up on Vision as well as upgrading to Unlimited Broadband.
I received an activation date of 10th August, my box arrived the previous day. Knowing from when I had my Broadband connected it usually is not activated until about midnight that day, so I decided to wait until to day to set-up Vision.
After following the instructions I was unsuccesful in setting it up, so resorted in calling the helpdesk. I had to call 5 times, I was cut off 4 times!! Finally when I managed ot get a full conversation with someone I was advised that my Broadband Upgrade was delayed so therefore my Vision Activation was delayed.
The lady kindly called the Engineers to see why it was delayed, she informed me that they advised it is delayed as they cannot upgrade my Broadband to 20MB as the Exchange is not being upgraded until October!!
Firstly I did not ask to upgrade to 20MB I just wanted Broadband Unlimited, secondly how can they put an order in to upgrade my Broadband to 20MB when the Exchange is incapable, and thirdly when they realised it was delayed, why did they not inform me it was and the reason, instead of me having to call 5 times.
I now have to wait for them to place another order to fix the mess they created in the first place, I will be checking my Bill carefully when it comes ot ensure they have not started to charge me from the 10th!!
Well rant over, I hope its worth the wait, or the 10 Days cooling off period will be utilised

48hrs has now turned it 76hrs!!! This is a disgrace.
As soon as its switched on Im sending it straight back. BT = **bleep** Terrible.

  • Removing imlib2-cvs: "something has gone horribly wrong

    Hi there,
I did a pacman -Syu today, and pacman wanted to replace imlib2-cvs with imlib2. So far, so good. I said "yes" to the removal, but pacman complained that ffmpeg and adesklets require imlib2-cvs.
So I deinstalled those two packages.
Now, if I try to upgrade, I get the following error message:
error: something has gone horribly wrong
If I pacman -R imlib2-cvs, it claims that imlib2-cvs is required by adesklets and ffmpeg--even though those two packages have been removed.
So obviously, something has gone wrong with the pacman "database." Question is: how can I fix it? Delete the entries for adesklets and ffmpeg in /var/lib/pacman? Delete the entry for imlib2-cvs? Do something completely different?
Some feedback would be much welcome. I hope my system is not broken for good ...
    Cheers,
    -Sascha.rb

    pacman -Rd imlib2-cvs
    pacman -S imlib2
... let me install the new imlib2 package, after all. No idea whether it fixed the weird dependency issue I had ("something has gone horribly wrong"), but at least it's working ...

  • Pacman: "something has gone horribly wrong"

    Hi all,
So I started The Big Xorg Upgrade on my laptop. First I removed xorg (to get around the bitstream fonts conflict) and started pacman -Syu. During the package downloads I noticed that I still use some old configuration where the downloads come from ftp.nethat.com , which is very far from me, whereas now I have a much closer mirror ftp.estpak.ee . So I killed pacman and wget, corrected pacman.conf, and rerun pacman -Syu. The downloads were finished nicely, but then I got the following message:
    checking package integrity...done
error: something has gone horribly wrong
I have never seen such an error before, and probably I should not have seen it at all. But still I did:) So can anyone tell me what it is about and under which conditions is it shown? Should I file a bug report?
    Jan
Edit: I cleared the package cache, downloaded all the packages from the same source and I still get the same message. So it was not a problem caused by the interrupted upgrade (and in fact I have done interrupted upgrades in the past with no problems). Any ideas and/or explanations are greatly welcome.

Tried that and the message is still the same.

It doesn't sound like you "changed" your Apple ID, sounds like you created a new one. Bad idea. All content bought with an Apple ID is forever tied to that ID. The ID that bought the content is the only ID that can update the content. Apple does not merge IDs not does Apple transfer content from one ID to another.

  • What happened to my music?  I updated to iOs 6 and its all gone.

What happened to my music?  I updated to iOs 6 and its all gone.  I pay for the iCloud music storage, but I currently have no access to my music.

iTunes Match was not working after I upgraded to iOS 6.  It was solved by connecting the iPhone to the computer, backing up the iPhone, and then doing a restore to factory settings.  After that everything is working fine.

  • Something has gone horribly wrong...

After a days long battle to get my cd's and audiobooks loaded on to my iPod video, all seemed well. On the four hour drive to my girlfriend's parents' house we listened to most of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." When we got to her parents' house I plugged the iPod into their Mac (my computer is a PC) to recharge it and to use iTunes to try and get all our audiobooks to be in listed under "audiobooks" instead of "songs."
But then something went horribly wrong. When I looked at the contents of my iPod, almost all the tracks had little exclamation points next to them indicating that the file's location was unknown. In fact, some of the tracks that we'd just been listening to moments before were now missing!
This is very bad because we're in the process of leaving the country for several years, my computer is now in storage and the reason we bought the iPod was so that we could have stories for our long drive and music once we got there.
Can I fix this problem without reloading everything?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Sorry for your loss. This is generally how the iPod works. It is part of the way that Apple is trying to make the recording history by not (easily) allowing people to copy their playlists from machine to machine.
If you have iTunes set to automatically manage your playlists for that iPod it will replace the contents of the iPod when you hook it up to another computer. It should have given you a message that says something like "This iPod is managed by another computer. If you proceed you will loose all songs on this iPod."
At least I think that is probably what happened. You aren't completely clear, but is seems that a few songs were left? If that is the case I don't know how it happened. Perhaps you are using different versions of iTunes and that had something to do with it.
It may be possible to get the music back, but I don't know how to do it. Reloading everything is probably your best bet. Depending upon how much stuff you have and the capacity of your iPod you might want to carry a "backup" of all the files as data. Then if you lost them in the playlists part, you could hook to a friends computer, copy all the data off that partition and reload it. Good luck with that.
If you get the music restored you might want to look into getting a charger of some sort. You won't always be able to count on hooking up to somebody else's computer.

  • Adding submenus makes it all go horribly wrong - please help!!

Although I've done a fair bit of playing with various incarnations of iMovie recently, I'm new to iDVD and I'm pulling my hair out trying to get the addition of submenus to work 'correctly'.
I have an iMovie '09 project and I have multiple chapter markers in there, say 14.
When I export to iDVD '09 the scene selection menu appears which corresponds with my previously added chapter markers. The theme defaults to placing 6 scene selection options in each menu with the next/previous scene selection menus accessible via forward/backward arrows. All good so far!
However, due to the text length and other things, I wish to have only three scenes available in each scene selection page which, as I understand it means I need to create additional submenus and move things around a bit.
However, instead of the manually added scene selection submenus being available as forward/backward arrows, they appear as folders in the existing scene selection screens.
When I first add a new submenu to an existing menu/submenu, it is placed at the end of the branch on that tree (I can't seem to generate it directly underneath the existing tree) so I move things around a bit to get things to appear in the correct structure, but it seems to change nothing in terms of the end result, and all of this is very frustrating!
I'm living in the hope that this is a simple thing to 'fix' (perhaps I'm doing something wrong) but I certainly can't find the answer myself.
Any help very much appreciated. Thanks.
I've checked the map view and it absolutely looks correct in terms of the layout

You cannot make new scenes appear on another menu page except by doing the 'add submenu' and then you get the link as a folder, as you discovered.
However, you can do what you want with a bit of work-around manipulation.
First, you will need to go back to iMovie and add several more chapter markers that you will then delete in iDVD. If you want 15 total (don't forget to count the beginning one that iDVD adds automatically), and you want only three to a submenu, you will need to force iDVD to create five submenu pages. Assuming that iDVD puts 6 scenes per page, you will need to create at least 28 chapter markers. Try to put the 'dummy' ones between the 'good' ones.
To make this work, you will need to create a new iDVD project; otherwise all your scenes will default to the same one scene since iDVD no longer properly incorporates changes to your iMovie.
Once your heavily book-marked iMovie is in your new iDVD project, go to the first submenu. Leave the scenes you want there, and delete the others. Navigate to the next submenu and do the same. If you end up with only two of the desired chapters on the first menu and the third chapter you need is on the second submenu, do a copy/paste to put it on the first submenu and delete it from the second submenu. Continue this way until you have the three chapters per submenu that you desire.
It sounds time-consuming, but it is really rather quick. It would be even faster if iDVD 8/9 would behave as iDVD 6 did and recognize and properly incorporate changes in iMovie.
Post back if this is not clear or is not working for you.

  • Library Transfer to New Computer Gone Horribly Wrong

I got a laptop for Christmas, so I tried to use my iPod to transfer my library from the old computer to the new laptop. I followed all the directions, but when I got to the last step that said all my songs and playlists and everything should be in itunes, nothing was there. And there weren't any further directions for what to do if that should happen. So I imported the file that I had transferred and I thought I had solved my problem, but when I double-click to play any of my songs itunes comes up with an error that says it can't locate the song file. It would take forever to go through individually and match up all the folders, not to mention the whole thing is somewhat jumbled and some files are missing completely. I need help figuring out what went wrong, and if I should start over and try the DVD method or something else...i have roughly 1000 songs+video so I don't know how many DVDs that would end up filling.
    Help please!
      Windows XP

I would seriously thing about getting a larger drive for your computer. If you are talking about your Thinkpad, then probably the best thing to do is invest in an external hard drive. You can buy them ready made or put one together for very cheap.
If you then set up your iTunes to work off the external hard drive, you should then be able to get all your tunes off the iPod and into the external drive.

  • New PC Build gone horribly wrong

    Hi,
i built myself a new system yesterday with the following components
    Athlon64 3000+
    Zalman CNPS7000B-CU CPU Cooler
Geil 512mb DDR400 Ram with aluminium heat spreader
    450W unbranded power supply
    Leadtek nvidia 6800 128Mb
Western Digital Caviar 120GB SATA 8Mb Cache
I went through the normal routine of cramming it all in the case, connecting the right wires, and having a tough time fitting the zalman cooler in between the ram and the gfx card's heatsink.
I then plugged the mains cable into the PSU and it came on straight away which i found slightly odd.
I then put the winxp cd in, and halfway through preparing the installation it switched off unexpectedly.
I then went through that process a couple more times, changing bits and bobs around, but it kept on crashing at seemingly random points.
Now i have it set up minimally, with MB, GFX card, and PSU, but it will not switch on at all, just giving off a high pitched squeal every time i connect the power.
    What does this mean?
Is the PSU faulty, or is the cpu overheating, or is it something else?
any help would be much appreciated
EDIT: sorry, i completely forgot to mention that the MB is the K8n neo2 platinum

It does sound highly likely to be a PSU problem, especially as it switched itself off.
Bear in mind that Athlons draw most (if not all) of their power through the 12V rail now, and you need to make sure you have a substantial Amp rating on the 12V line. 25A and upwards is best.
What is the rating of your PSU on 12V? If it has died, I hope it didn't take anything else more expensive out with it...
Did you notice any unusual smells?

  • Its all gone wrong since using OC ~Genie 2

So i installed command centre and enabled OC Genie , it OC me to 4.2Mhz from 3.8Mhz but it increased volts too much so i disabled it and went back to stock. all was fine or so i thought .
Now the CPU power phase LEDs at top of board right next to power off and Oc Genie buttons flashes - It used to stay a constant blue which looked awesome in the night .
I have seen in the command centre that i can turn it off completely but even when i do that , on the next reboot of my system it comes back on again .
Ideally i would like it to stay a constant blue like it used to be , but i will settle for it being off .
So can anyone help me  ?

  • The good install that has gone horribly wrong

I have identical iMacs in the house. New 2.8 gHz aluminum models. The day that Leopard came out, we bought a family pack since we have 4 machines capable of running of the OS.
The only two we've updated so far are the iMacs. While the initial install went what one would consider flawless (upgrade after backing up data), its only now that we've started having problems.
After working on setting up permissions for folder/file sharing (home network and all), NOTHING could be accessed, moved, or deleted WITHOUT requiring authentication. Tried for countless hours to try and fix the permissions on the disks to match the working iMac and to no avail could NOT add admin user back to the drives (internal drive + 2 external drives). Don't ask - I dont know HOW it got dropped. It was there one minute and gone the next after file sharing got turned on.
So, backed up what was important (since the TimeMachine drive got hosed as well), and did a reinstall.
Attempt number 1 - Same boat - using just simple reinstall tactics. No permissions fixed
Attempt number 2 - Wipe internal drive - install Leopard. While it fixes the internal drive permissions, the external drives were still hosed.
At this point, copied everything from the external drive to the internal and reformatted the drive with success (restoring permissions), so THAT is good to go.
Trashed TimeMachine backups, reformatted drive. Success with restoring permissions.
Now here's the problem. Since the 2nd install attempt was a clean wipe of the drive and a reinstall of the OS, you can now throw NOTHING away. Everytime you try and empty the trash or move anything even into the trash you get prompted for your password as if its an Administrator action.
Has ANYONE run into this and what can be done to fix it?
I am contemplating restoring the system with the original 10.4 disks and then upgrading to Leopard and not worrying about sharing any folders over the network until this is solved.

First rule in using these forums is to search them. Try permissions, ownership, authentication, etc. There're many topics addressing the problem. See these:

  • Mac has gone horribly wrong

I got this off the internet since i was searching for the problems i am experiencing to find out what was wrong but it summarizes everything i have experienced.
"There are many many problems now and I'll list what's happening:
iTunes - When I try and launch iTunes I get the error "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13014)"
Mail - I get the following error when trying to retrieve messages - There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Gmail” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to host pop.gmail.com on port 995 failed.
Appstore - I get "Cannot connect to the app store"
Spotify - Doesn't work, when launching I get the error "keychain "login" cannot be found to store "nothctap" (that's my username). When I try and play a song I get an error "There was a problem storing temporary files on the hard disk"
Safari - Randomly crashes and won't access my internet banking or any apple help sites. I get a blank browser with the following text - Safari can’t open the page “https://discussions.apple.com/thread...rt=0&tstart=0” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.
I can't download anything at all, when I try and download something I get the following error - Safari could not download the file “Name of file in here” because there is not enough free disk space."
However, i go to activity monitor and i have plenty of space.
Since these problems have started, my Mac has been slowing down like crazy. It freezes up a lot and i eventually have to resort to powering down by holding down the power button. My Mac is brand new!! i hate this please help!

Great advice from Paul, just to add...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
