Newbie Alert: Is the Flash Builder 4 SDK for Eclipse
the same as the Flash Builder 4 development environment with all the existing Eclipse functionality and perspectives?
So I guess in other words, if I download Eclipse and the Flash Builder 4 SDK and install it to Eclipse, I should have the same functionality as Flash Builder 4 development environment, but with all the Eclipse standard perspectives, functionality, ect in tact?

Hi Jeff,
the Flash Builder Standalone version (not plugin) is an eclipse IDE ( Version Gaymede). Everthing is setup to develop Flex, with specialized views and perspectives for Flex.
But you can use the software update functionality to install anything you like (c++, php, java, wtp etc).
If you install the plugin version, it depends on top which version.
Both FB3 and FB4 is testes with Ganymede "only", the most current version of eclipse is galileo, which was released some weeks ago.
There are eclipse version configured for c++, php, Java etc. Then of course you have this version with the flex stuff on top. In the end you can have everything with both ways!
What I said is true for Flashbuilder 3, with Flashbuilder 4 it is a little different.
I tried to use the install the plugin version of FB4b1. Although the installation seems to work, several functionality does not work with the plugin version, but works with the standalone!
As FB4 is still in beta 1 I recommend that you use the standalone version and install what you need on top of it.
Then you will have less problems with Flex beta.
You can install and use any SDK in your eclipse you like at the same time You can switch the version in the settings.

I'm not an eclipse user but at the moment the recommended version of eclipse for the plugin is 3.4

The stand alone version of Flashbuilder works fine on Win7 X64 (FB is x32 not x64 both standalone and plugin)and I assume using the specified eclipse ide and FB plugin would be the same.

Deletion of Flash Builder 4.5 when installing Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP
There is a very serious error with the Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP installer (from http://static.zend.com/topics/Flash-Builder-for-PHP-4.5.0-Release-Notes.txt ):
If Flash Builder 4.5 (not PHP) is already installed on the machine, and the
product (Flash Builder for PHP 4.5) is then installed in a different location,
the user gets the "FB is installed" dialog.
After clicking OK, the installation rolls back and removes both Flash Builder
and Flash Builder for PHP.
My questions:
Can Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP be installed in the same location without deleting Flash Builder 4.5? If so, please define "location."
Is there a workaround for installing both flavors of Flash Builder 4.5 and avoiding the deletion issue described above?
Can a single do-it-all version of Flash Builder 4.5 be installed that combines the SDKs and features of both flavors of the Flash Builder 4.5 product?Hi Mike,

Error while installing flash builder 4.5 for php
Hello to all.
Im having a problem while trying to install the flash builder 4.5 for php.... it keeps saying that i have the zend installed in my computer! but i have not... i just have buyed this computer... and it keeps saying that i have the zend installed....

When Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP is released will it support AIR 3.2 ???
We've all been waiting a long time since last November's Private Beta of Flash Builder 4.6 which was released shortly thereafter, for the Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP version.
However, Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP (The one with Zend Studio included in it) is scheduled for 2012 - Q1 release, meaning?
I guess, at the latest March 31st.
This is significant, because AIR 3.2 is Great, but it will Live or Die based on what happens, I believe, in the next year, the new demo with the 2 geniuses at Adobe, Lee Brimelow and Thibault Imbert, which essentially ARE the driving intellectual force behind AIR, make me feel more comfortable than the management at Adobe,

So, when FB 4.6 for PHP is released, will it support AIR 3.2?
There's another thing, there are a ton of job offerings for iOS 5 or Android Java, but no AIR (very few and the damage control fromthe eff'ed up press release is still meandering).
Adobe needs to compliment its consumer base and developer base, with a Developer Network for Corporate integration so there are contracts out there for us who live between our dream ideas and meals, by doing contracting work, and it'd be nice to do it in Flash Builder 4.6 instead of taking on an iOS 5 or Android Java or PhoneGap project. At least for Gamers.

I'm shooting for the Social Gaming, and I like what I see in the above video.
But again, people have to pay bills, why doesn't Adobe reach our to Corporations for certified developers like Mickysoft and Apple?I worked it out in the end - I had to uninstall FB4.5 and reboot. Why couldn't the installation say so instead of just crashing? I found this out, by the way, by trying to run the installer created under c:\program files(x86)\adobe\adobe flash builder 4.6. That one told me at least that I had to uninstall a previous version, though even then it was coy about which one

I downloaded Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP on 6th october. Due to some misunderstanding i uninstalled the Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP. Today when i installed it again, after installation i launched the flash builder and got a popup saying that the trial has expired. I have tried reinstallation(after removing) 2-3 times but its not working for me.
Not sure is there any quick way to get support from Adobe tech team.
This forum seems to be my only hope.

Adobe Air "The Flash Builder debugger failed to connect to the running application".
Hi,
I know this issue or bug, is well known here, but i only read problems with flex apps and im trying to debug an Air app, i've read almost all about this problem but i cant found a solution for this. I tryed rebooting my desktop, uninstalling and installing again, etc. I installed flash builder 4.6 on other computers and worked fine only my computer has the problem and i don't understand why.
I have windows 7, 64 bits.
I tryed to do a telnet to port 7935, i did this cause a read a post with suggesting doing that, the port does listen and throw me this error

I want to purchase the Flash Builder 4.6 standard edition by tha adobe store.
Once clicked to buy it, in the cart appears the FB 4.5 standard edition.
Is it correct or somethings is wrong?

Looks like some how your license information did not get updated to the creative suites license database on your system.
and that would explain the missing entry on the Creative suites Cleanner tool.
ensure you have Administrator priviledges and write permissions on the locations
Windows:
/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Adobe PCD
/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/caps
/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/backup
Mac OS:
[startup drive]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD
[startup drive]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps
[startup drive]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/backup
and retry the steps mentioned earlier.

In the Flash Builder Plugin version, why did it install another "alternate Eclipse"?
In the Flash Builder 4 Plug-in installer I just ran, why did it install whats seems to be another copy of Eclipse in my "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4 Plug-in" folder, along with a shortcut called "Run Adobe Flash Builder 4 Plug-in with alternate Eclipse"?

FB4 Plug-in comes bundled with the full Eclipse 3.4.2 (Ganymede) Package for Java Developers, and also supports linking FB4 to your own copy of eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) or 3.6 (Helios).
We considered bundling one of the larger Packages (Eclipse for PHP Developers, etc.), but wanted to keep the footprint smaller, and the package for Java Developers was the smallest one that still includes the JDK.
The shortcut for the "alternate" should point to your own copy of eclipse, and the default launcher shortcut should point to the bundled copy under the subfolder \eclipse-host-distro. The default shortcut will launch eclipse/FB4 using our bundled copy of the JRE, but the alternate shortcut assumes that you either have a compatible JRE installed system-wide, or that you have a valid JRE folder in your eclipse folder.
Some of the reasons we started bundling eclipse with FB4 Plug-in were:
- the custom configuration (ini file settings, memory allocation, etc.) provided in the bundled copy of eclipse can be used as a guide for optimizing your own eclipse configuration, for improved performance with FB4.
- on Win, we bundle a compatibility-tested version of the JRE for use with the bundled copy of eclipse. This can come in handy on 64-bit Win, as we provide a 32-bit version of the JRE compatible with FB4. You can copy this same JRE folder into your own copy of 32-bit eclipse, if you wish to avoid installing a system-wide version of 32-bit java.
- if you encounter any version or bundle conflicts with your own copy of eclipse, you can still run the bundled copy as a fallback, until any problems are resolved.
Out of curiosity, which version and package of eclipse are you plugging into?

Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP - show variable from PHP in app
I have searched for hours and I can't figure this out…
Is there a way to somehow "echo" my PHP code in my MXML file ?
I know you can't echo something from PHP to MXML, so here's what I have done :
I get my informations from my database, I need to show an image and its title, so I put the following code in a variable :

Then, I return that variable.
I find the function where my var created is returned from the "Data/Service" tab, I am on Design mode on Flash Builder, and I "drop" my function where I want my image and text to show on my app.
I tryed dropping it in a "group", it doesn't show anything. I tryed several other options, and nothing worked.
So my question is, how could I have this code created in PHP show on my application ?

However, I was able to add it by hitting Command 3 (CTRL 3 on PC) and typing Ant. -
Help setting up Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP
I am looking for a concise set of steps for setting up ALL requirements for running Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP. I have been fighting for three days to get the TestDrive example up and running, with no success. At every step of the way I have encountered problems. I fought for a day and a half with MySQL. Then I fought for another day with PHP (Liip). Then I fought for another day with Zend. All along the way I have fought problems with Flash Builder and Flash Builder for PHP. I've had to relearn all of my UNIX shell commands (it's been a few years). I've tried using a remote server at 000webhost.com. I've tried using an old laptop for a server. I finally ended up trying to do it all on my main laptop. I have completely given up and am ready to dump my project altogether. Forget my students. They'll just have to live without what would have been a fantastic new way of learning.

I do not have a 'concise' answer for you - in fact I am not using FB 4.5 for PHP. I started using FB 4 around 8 months ago. I installed a 'WAMP' thing, called 'EasyPHP'. That actually went pretty smoothly. I did the whole thing on my personal laptop running Windows 7. I 'hooked up' FB to the PHP side using the built in data services wizards and such, as I imagine you are trying to do. I too had to 'fight' a bit, but found most of the answers scattered around the Internet. Had to tweak a few settings here and there in various files, and viola, it worked.
I have resisted upgrading to 4.5, and especially the 4.5 "for" PHP, only becuase of the great expense. It seems like a lot of money to pay for 'integrated, round-trip debugging'. I already can debug the PHP side 'independently' of the FB side (from inside the Eclipse+PHP plugin free toolset), which, for most SQL situations is good enough. I simply set up a 'test page' in PHP and use that to 'call' the various functions I write.
On the FB side, I gave up on using the 'built in data services wizard thingies' because they simply could not get the data-type mappings correct between the two sides. Also, the "value objects" things (really just a fancy data-object class definition) seeme overly complex and inflexible, i.e., they would re-code themselves after every change I made to the PHP side. I prefer a more 'lean' approach, and one that I control 100%. So far I am able to do everything I need using my own 'value objects' (simple classes).
So...as you can see, I may not be able to help much, but, if you can explain some of the details of what is failing, maybe I can provide a bit of assistance. From what I understand, the big difference between 4.5 and 4.0, at least on the PHP side, is that the 'introspector' is a bit more accurate now and of couse there is the 'round-trip' debugging and 'awareness of each other's objects/definitions' while in PHP or FB.
Finally, as best I can tell, after 8 months of 'experimenting' with Flex and PHP, there are simply not many people doing it, or, at least not that many doing it that participate on this forum and who have practical experience, especially with the more 'recent' releases, i.e., 4.0, 4.5. I would encourage you to scan the rest of the Internet...there *is* knowledge out there...but it can difficult and slow to get.

Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP and ANT
I just installed Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP Premium and I am trying to install ANT so I can automate the AsDoc generation process.
In the past (Flash Builder 4), I just point to "http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/" and select "Eclipse Java Development Tools".
However, when I do the same in " Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP Premium", I got an error message saying that a newer version of "Eclipse Java Development Tools" has already been installed. I go to the "Already Installed Software" tab, and indeed I see "Eclipse Java Development Tools" under "Eclipse Java IDE", but ANT is nowhere to be found.
By the way, I am doing everything on the stock, standalone Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP Premium.

Mail doesn't send mail anymore
All of a sudden my mail accounts will not send mail. At first I thought it was the size of the actual message or attachments being sent.... nope. doesn't matter if its a 10mb attachment or a 3kb message it just gets sent to the outbox folder for all
