What do you want to load, into what structure?
Do you want to insert the data into a (or several) relational table(s)? Or do you want to insert the whole XML document into a database column?
Give us more details, and the exact database version ("11g" is merely a product name, not a version).

  • Option to load XML data into BI 70

    Hi All,
I have read some postings on forums and also have read the "HOW TO load XML data in BW" guide. I am confused when I read the SAP online help documentation for loading XML data .
Question : Out of the 3 options listed below which option is best suited for loading XML data into BW . XML file is going to be provided by 3rd party company ?
Thanks and appreciate any input .
    Smith .
Here is what I found for BI 70 EHP1 help :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/b2/e50138fede083de10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm
Data is generally transferred into SAP BW by means of a data request, which is sent from SAP BW to the source system (pull from the scheduler). You can also send the data to SAP BW from outside the system. This is a data push into SAP BW.
A data push is possible for various scenarios:
    ●     Transferring Data Using the SOAP Service SAP Web AS
    ●     Transferring Data Using Web Services
    ●     Transferring Data Using SAP XI
In all three scenarios, data transfer takes place using transfer mechanisms that are sufficient for Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP); the data transfer is also XML-based.
The SOAP-based transfer of data is only possible for flat structures. You cannot transfer hierarchy data.

    Hi,
I feel you can go with 2nd option. But still wait for some more inputs from Experts........

    Suman

  • How to load XML files into ORACLE8i database?

SAP data is being extracted into XML format (via IDOC) files which are being transferred to an ORACLE8i box. There will be a large amount of data transferred on a daily basis which will include updates and inserts. From all the information that I have read on this subject there are 2 options available :
    1. XML-SQL Utility - which converts XML into INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE SQL. There does not appear to be that much functionality available by this method for decodes, transformations on the input data.
    2. SQL*Loader - There was a statement in 1 piece of documentation stating that SQL*Loader could be used for loading XML format data files. I cannot however find any further information on how this is achieved or how it works.
If anyone has any experience in loading XML format data files using either of the above methods (preferably SQL*Loader as it has more functionality) then could you please provide me with examples or guidance on this matter? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am not familiar with XML format data files. I am from an Oracle 7.3 background but do not have much experience with Oracle 8 onwards.
    Disclaimer.
Any views expressed in the above paragraphs are my own and not that of Hewlett Packard Ltd.

We are loading XML into our database using CLOB datatypes. We don't use the XSU for inserts as it is too slow. We parse the incoming XML document into a PL/SQL record type and then build a generic insert. This might not work well if you have many tags to parse into columns. We also store the entire XML CLOB into a column without parsing the individual tags into separate columns. We then use Intermedia Text for fast, index-based searching within the XML column.
Check out The Oracle XML Portal website for code examples on how to do this:

I have a complex XML file running into MBs. I want to load it's data into 7-8 tables.
    Which way will be better:
    1) Use SQL Loader to actually load directly into the 7-8 tables directly by modifying the control card.
Is this really possible and feasible? I am not even sure about it
    2) Load data as XML Type in a table and register it. Then extract from there to load into various tables.
Please help. I have to find the most efficient way of doing it.
    Regards,
    Sudhir

Yes it is possible to use SQL*Loader to parse and load XML, but that is not what it was designed for and so is not recommended. You also don't need to register a schema, just to load/store/parse XML in the DB either.
So where does that leave you?
    Some options
    {thread:id=410714} (see page 2)
    {thread:id=1090681}
    {thread:id=1070213}
Those talk some about storage options and reading in XML from disk and parsing XML. They should also give you options to consider. Without knowing more about your requirements for the effort, it is difficult to give specific advice. Maybe your 7-8 tables don't exist and so using Object Relational Storage for the XML would be the best solution as you can query/update tables that Oracle creates based off the schema associated to the XML. Maybe an External Table definition works better for reading the XML into the system because this process will happen just once. Maybe using WebDAV makes more sense for loading XML to be parsed (I don't have much experience with this, just know it is possible from what I've read on the forums). Also, your version makes a difference as you have different options available depending upon the version of Oracle.
Hope all that helps as a starter.

  • OWB11gR2 - simple and easy way to load XML formatted data into db tables?

    Hi,
we're currently trying to load table data stored in XML files into our datawarehouse using OWB 11gR2.
However, we're finding this is not quite as trivial as loading flat files...
Most postings on this forum points to the blog-entry title "Leveraging XDB" found here (http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/2007/09/leveraging_xdb.html).
This blog also references the zip-file owb_xml_etl_utils.zip, which seems to have disappeared from it's original location and can now be found on sourceforge.
Anyway, the solution described is for OWB 10g, and when trying to import experts from the zip-file etc. we end up not being able to run the "Create ETL from XSD" expert, as the 11gR2 client is different from the 10g and does not have the Experts menu et.al.
Also, this solution was published over 3 years ago, and it seems rather strange that importing XML-formatted data should still be so cumbersome in the newer warehouse builder releases.
The OWB 11gR2 documentation is very sparse (or rather - quite empty) on how to load XML data, all it has is a few lines on "XML Transformations", giving no clue as to how one goes about loading data.
Is this really the state of things? Or are we missing some vital information here?
We'd have thought that with 11g-releases, loading XML-data would be rather simple, quick and painless?
Is there somewhere besides the blog mentioned above where we can find simple and to the point guidelines for OWB 11gR2 on how to load XML-formatted data into Oracle tables?
    Regards,
    -Haakon-

  • How to load XML file for Custom Pod in 7.5?

I'm developing a custom pod for our Connect 7.5 deployment, and I'm attempting to load an XML file that resides in the assets/ folder of my project. I run the pod in Flash Builder 4.5 to debug and it works just fine. Whenever I load the pod into our Connect 7.5 solution, it appears as if none of the events for the URLLoader are triggered.
Is there something else I need to do? Please help!  Note - I have tried loading XML both from an actual URL and locally. Both work fine in the IDE just not when pod is in Connect.
    Thanks

Did you follow the guidelines in the Connect 6 SDK documentation? This document was applicable from version 6 through 7.5.

Your SWF needs to be named index.swf to work, as I recall.

  • What is newest/best/simplest Java XML API for loading/saving/validating?

Here's what I need to do:
    - Load XML files. Preferably validate using XSD validation referenced by "xsi:schemaLocation" hints.
    - Generate XML files. I'd like to be able to specify indentation (tabs?) and "xsi:schemaLocation" XSD hints
    - I'm working with fairly small configuration files, so I'd like to work with document-centric (and not streaming oriented) APIs.
I've spent a full day reading articles showing different code snippets for different APIs. There are dozens of standards and APIs. Also, all the articles that I can find are several years old at the least.
This is surprisingly complex for something so seemingly simple.
What's the best XML API that fits my criteria? Any links for code snippets and up-to-date documentation?
    Thanks!

Well, XML hasn't changed since it was formalized, and that was in 1999. So there's really no need for people to write new parsers every couple of years any more. And that's why you don't find new tutorials being written every year either. There's really not much need for that.
Anyway, my recommendation would be to use the classes that are built into your current version of Java. Use them for a while. Once you have experience with them, all those tutorials about other products will start to make sense and you will be able to make an educated decision for yourself.

  • How to load XML File to BW Delta Queue via Webpage

    Hello altogether,
I am trying to load an CSV file via Webpage (the Webpage have to change the csv file in a xml/soap file) into BW Delta Queue.
    Steps that I have made:
    - Create an InfoSource
    - Create an BW Data Source with Soap Connection
    - Create an initial Delta without Data Transfer
    - Create a Web Service with TC - SE37 - Utilities -> More Utilities -> Create Web Service
If I test the Web Service with TC - Soamanager (BW 7.0), the data entered here, are transferred to the BW Delta Queue.
If I test the function module ( TC - SE37), the data also transferred to the Delta Queue.
Now I think, that I have an error in the html file or the html file is not conform to the wsdl document?? Or should I have to create a virtual interface, but I don't find a possibility to creat it...???
    Can you please help me????
The coding of the WSDL Document and the Website is attached (I can also send you the coding and error message via mail, if you want). Sorry I don't know how to display here the coding. I try it with symbol "click to display the text code", but afterwards I get an error message from the website...   So let me please know your mail address and I send it via mail....
I hope, that somebody can help me!!!!!

    Hello,
I have done all the necessary config in BW. However, as I mentioned earlier, we are still not up with XI so I am trying to load XML to BW delta queue.  The question still remains, how do I make make the XML file (on my desktop say) point to the BW so the InfoPackage picks up and places in the delta queue?  Even if I had XI, there has to be a way whereby BW looks for the XML file.  That is what I want to know and stuck at.
Any detailed step by step help will be appreciated as always.
    Cheers
