Dont know if this is the correct forum, if not please advise.
I need to learn how to open, and read the parameters of an mp3 file so I can read in segments and play them back out with the proper sampling and bit depth. I can read the entire file and output it to a browser, now I need to know how to do less than the full file. Any help would be greatly appreciated

That was an interesting rant. JavaSound is actually the older API, JMF was designed to replace JavaSound.
The solution to your problem is the Clock interface which the Player object implements. Now I'm assuming that you are using a URL and then passing that URL to the manager to create the Player. Once you have your player use the getStopTime() method to determine the overall length of your media and then use the setMediaTime() and setStopTime() to set the period that you want the file to play. Then all you have to do is start() the processor.
And because you had your little rant I'm going to try to make you feel better and give you the link to the Clock interface.

Can I transfer my itunes to a MP3 player? newbie, help please

Hi, I need your help. I have a HP Media Center PC with all bells and whistles. I just learned about itunes. I downloaded a free song. I have also gotten 5 songs for free from a website called Connect (run by Sony).
what I was expecting to do was to go to Radio shack and purchase an MP3 player for $59.99. It's about all I can afford.
then I found out that the songs I downloaded from Connect cannot be transferred to an mp3 player unless it is a Sony MP3 player. The mp3 player in Radio Shack was not a Sony. but I did ask the salesman if I could do itunes with this and he said "sure". but I'm not sure now. I have read about all kinds of formats with downloading these songs. such as OPENMG format and something called ATRAC. See where I'm getting confused?
What I need to know is this: If I purchase songs from itunes and it goes on my hard drive, can I then purchase the mp3 player and transfer the songs so I can go for a walk and play my mp3 player. I can't afford an ipod.
Do I have to buy a special mp3 player to be able to use itunes. I can't find any information on this on the site.
I am a disabled person and could use some help.
thanks to anybody who can help me. Just need to know exactly what I should be buying to play songs on and do I have to download the songs in a special way or does itunes just do it for me. Also, I don't have an apple computer. but I have an APPLE user ID. Very confusing.

Okay, let me see if I have this right.
I have a HP Pavillion Media Center. this should allow me to burn cds, right? I have never done this in my life but believe me I learn fast. I have two drives that I'm looking at right now on my tower.
The top drive says LightScribe DVD+-/CD Writer
The other drive says CD rom.
I presume, to burn a cd (or whatever it's called), I use the top Lightscribe thing, right?
so I guess I have to get a blank cd rewritable thing, place it in the top drive and copy the sonic stage (sony) songs onto that right? then I can get the ipod and transfer from the newly burned cd into the ipod, right?
I have absolutely no idea how to accomplish this but I'm willing to at least do the first step and burn the cd.
Now, here's my question. Many years ago, when I had my other HP pavillion,it came with a re-writable drive. I tried to burn something to it and I did not know what I was doing. I do remember that the cd was some kind of RW thing.
I probably have one of those in my house. They are over 5 years old. Is this what I have to use to put the songs on it.
do I have to go to the computer store and buy a new blank cd-rw (if that is indeed what I will be using).
I want to know exactly what kind of blank cd thing I have to put in the drive. And do I use the one marked Lightscribe.
See, once I know what to do, I'll figure out how to do it.
I'm going to search my room to find one of the old blank ones but I won't use it until you say, "yes, use it.".
I know I used to have a case of them. Never used them but they are still around.
Are they still compatible with my windows xp, HP Pavillion media center.
And I should tell you what I tried to do last night. I was researching all about converting files and I saw something that said "drag the files into your itunes folder and you should have the songs in their". so stupid me, I go to my start menu, open up the explore thing, I find the "sonic stage" thing, I see the itunes thing, I dragged and sonic stage into the itunes thing and sure enough, right in front of me a little message popped up showing me it was "copying files to itunes". So I said "holy sh*t, I actually did it", "i'm going to see my songs in my itunes folder". Well, that didn't happen. I opened up my itunes library and only my original itunes song was there. No songs from the sonic stage library was put in.
I have no idea what was copied into what. So what exactly did I do?

Newbie trying to get tracks to mp3 without clipping

Hi Folks, I have imported a bunch of track from a HDD recorder (as wav files) into Garageband. It's a rock band setup - drums, bass, guitar etc. I can't get the drums or bass anywhere near loud enough without clipping. If you look at the wave form of the signal it's not above 0 or even close. I tried turning off all compression I was using and all other effects and it still sounds like crap. I can get a decent mix in GB but when I try to export either as MP3 or .aif I have no volume or I have clipping. I have tried both Normalizing and not.
Please, any thoughts are most welcome. Thanks!

Newbie to mp3 pla

Hi I was given a mp3 player for Christmas, i had trouble charging but fixed that, now i have 22 songs from my cd`s on my player but now is telling me that my memory is full, i deleted all songs and that?told me i had empty disk but?only 88% memory available so?i don't know what i have done but?, i have not upgraded my firmware am i supposed to don`t know how to do that either, i didn`t know where to look the instruction book is not very helpful at all, it is a 2gb mp3 on the box says mp3tech 3tech2w, mp 4 player can someone please help me i want to buy songs from?itunes but don't have enough memory,? have i done something wrong or is it something easily fixed,? i need someone to tell me? step by step what the hell to do please please someone help me.Message Edited by tenille on 0-24-2007:27 PM

Newbie -- help with mp3s please!

I'm new to iWeb and have almost finished my friend's website -- www.willmaranto.com. He's a musician and obviously needs music on his site. I've downloaded Wimpy player and am trying to set up, but I don't know where to upload the mp3s to. I'm assuming this would be the same no matter what html snippet related player I'd use, but I can't figure it out. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Also, I'm having a few issues with links in the menu bar not working, I don't know what to do about that.

Newb Questions - USB MP3+ Full Dupl

I have just purchased a USB MP3+ external sound card. I have been told that "all low cost PC sound cards support full duplex" (simultaneous record and play) operation. I would like to confirm this before opening the box. I have downloaded the manual, looked over the online comparison charts and nowhere does it mention whether or not the MP3+ supports this. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Yes it does full duplex, so you can finally open it after waiting over 3 years.

MP3 newbie - MuVo N200 Micro prob

Hello. I'm new to MP3 players and got my N200 Micro at the weekend. When I first listened to the radio, that was fine, I could scroll through the other settings, and I copied some tracks straight from my CD player using line out without problem. However, despite setting up the software and disconnecting the N200 as instructed, tracks transferred from my pc don't copy properly - they stick at 0.00... and when I listen, I just hear clicking.
The really worrying thing is that I've now lost all the functions - scroll doesn't work - and player won't even turn off unless I remove the battery!
I've only used this once - for about hour - and I followed the instructions so I'm at a loss to know what's gone wrong. Have I got a duff machine? Is there something I can do, or should I get a refund?

Thanks for the suggestion. Despite getting a message saying I already have this version, I've reloaded from the fw update link posted on this site. All I'm getting is the MuVo blue screen for approx minute and now the display reads 00.00.00 EN002 MP3 - pressing Scroll doesn't call up any options, eg Radio, and I still can't turn it off other than by removing the battery.
I'd be v grateful if you can suggest anything - otherwise I'll be asking Amazon for a refund PDQ.

Do they have their show on the internet? The iTunes Help document says,
"If you know the Internet address (URL) of an MP3 streaming broadcast, you can connect to it using iTunes.
Choose Advanced > Open Stream.
Enter the full URL of the file you want to listen to. For example, http://www.apple.com/itunes/sample.mp3."

How do I export one song from iTunes to a .mp3 file?

Sorry for the newbie question. I want to create a single .mp3 file from one of the songs in my iTunes library. How do I do that?

You can use iTunes to convert any copy protection free songs in your library another format. When you convert a song in iTunes it will be converted to the format that you have set to import your CDs in. Converting creates a second copy of the song in the format you have chosen which gives you the opportunity to either keep or delete the original. If you are using iTunes 8 go to iTunes>Preferences>General and click on Import Settings,, Change your Import format to MP3 Encoder for example. Go back to your library and highlight the songs you want to convert and go to the Advanced menu at the top of your iTunes window and choose "Create MP3 version": iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format
Click on the MP3 version you've created in iTunes to highlight it and drag it to your desktop to create a copy if you want to use it in another program or put it in another folder.

Creative MP3 Players and Car Au

I'm a newbie and I don't know a lot about MP3 players so I hope you can help me out. I have a brand new Kenwood car audio with an USB cable to plug your MP3 player in. My friend's Samsung MP3 player doesn't work, after some research I find out that the MP3 player has to be an MTP one to work with the car audio. Now my question is: are all Creative MP3 players MTP maschines and do I have to make a software update or what ever to "make them be" a MTP player?

Are you sure about this? Which Kenwood is it exactly? The info I've seen on the Kenwoods say that the USB device must be MSC (not MTP).
Perhaps your friend's Samsung is MTP, and that's why it didn't work.

Creative Mp3 Players MTP Problem Solution

Hi,because of the firmware and windows problems,if you have a mp3 player with a firmware that doesn't support MTP problem,sometimes even if you reformat your computer,you can get "player not connected" error. To solve this you must install MTP supporting firmware on your mp3 player,but if you don't want to upgrade your firmware (because of being afraid of stucking in the recovery mode,some other reasons)there is some other solutions to solve this problem.
Editing registry keys,and some other patches did nothing to solve my problem.So I deleted all Creative Drivers and programs from Add/Remove Programs,and I deleted Windows Media Player 0 and installed Windows Media Player 9,than I installed everything from my mp3 player's cd (media source,nomad explorer,device drivers,etc.) and I downloaded and installed new device driver (version 2...) from creative web site. I restarted my computer,and my problem is completely solved. Try it...

Previews not showing up for MP3's in finder

Alright, so I'm kind of a newb on here, but i have a macbook pro (2009) with lion on it. When I look in my finder for any file, be it a pdf, of picture, document or movie, I get the nice little preview. But with the MP3s, i get nothing the generic iTunes logo. What happened to the previews i used to get with the MP3's where they used to have the album artwork, and when you clicked on them, they would play from with in the finder? its driving me crazy trying to figure out what it could be!
And Ps. i DO have show icon preview checked in the view options.

Good news: I found a solution. Kind of bad news: it's an extremely awkward behaviour –*but at least it works.
Start iTunes, remove all your voice memos from your library (back them up if you need them), quit iTunes. Restart Finder. Done. I hope that helps!

MP3 files not showing up in published folder

Hi everyone,
A newbie question here: I have completed my site and published it to a folder, for later uploading to a webhost. I took a peek in my published folder and could not find any of the MP3 files that I had put on to my site. While I was creating the site, I dragged the MP3 files from iTunes to iWeb. Everything played just fine. But I'm figuring if I don't see any MP3 files in the published folder, they're not there.

Newb needs help opening file browser and getting full file name and path.

Ok, so I'm a TOTAL newb here, but I have managed to get it to open a file browser but all I can seem to get it to do is give me the NAME of the selected file *eg. selectedFile.name* I also need the path of the file as in C:\example\file.mp3.
The program I'm making plays an MP3 of your choice at a certain time, like an alarm clock. But I got tired of entering the file path of the MP3 EACH time so I wanted to have a browse feature.
Ideas... help... thanks...
