Newbie Question:  Validating Input on Class Attributes

I created a Domain called "ZTRANSMISSION_LIST" that has two values "MAN" and "AUT".  Next I created a Data Element called "ZTRANSMISSION_TYPE" of type "ZTRANSMISSION_LIST", my Domain.
So, I created a class called "ZVEHICLE" and create an attribute called "TRANSMISSION" of type "ZTRANSMISSION_TYPE" (my Data Element) thinking that if I did something like this in code:
DATA v TYPE REF TO zvehicle.
START-OF-SELECTION.
CREATE OBJECT v.
v->TRANSMISSION = 'XYZ'.
it would cause an exception because "XYZ" is not a valid entry in the ZTRANSMISSION_LIST domain but the program compiles fine and the code executes without a problem.  What gives?
How should I implement this?  I wanted to take advantage of the Domain but looks like I'm not going to be able to.  Does this mean I'm going to have to hard-wire these codes into my program for validation?

I thought we went over this before?  There is no connection between the domains and the values that you can pass to attributes within the class.  What you can do is have a method which you pass the value to, and inside the method you can check this value against the values within the domain, if it is ok, then update the attribute of the class, if not raise an exception.  Here is the function module which you can use to retrieve the values from the domain
method fill_attribute_value.
data: idd07v type table of  dd07v.
data: xdd07v like line of idd07v.
call function 'DD_DOMVALUES_GET'
     exporting
          domname        = 'ZTRANSMISSION_LIST'
          text           = 'X'
          langu          = sy-langu
     tables
          dd07v_tab      = idd07v
     exceptions
          wrong_textflag = 1
          others         = 2.
read table idd07v into xdd07v with key domvalue_l = im_value
if sy-subrc <> 0.
*  Raise the exception, value does not exist in the list.
else
* Ok, then fill the transmission attribute with value.
  me->transmission = im_value.
endif.
endmethod.

  • Variable accessibility: newbie question

    My next newbie question:
    The following two classes are in two separate files in the same a folder testClass2:
    package JavaDemos.testClass2;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class Sketcher {
        static SketchFrame window;
        static int widthXXX;
        public static int getwidthXXX() {
            return widthXXX;
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            window = new SketchFrame("Sketcher");
            widthXXX=1000;
            System.out.println("output: width = " + widthXXX);
            window.setVisible(true);
            window.specialReport();
    package JavaDemos.testClass2;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class SketchFrame extends JFrame {
        public SketchFrame(String title) {
            setTitle(title);
            setDefaultCloseOperation(WindowConstants.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE);
        public void specialReport(){
            System.out.println("number " + widthXXX);
            //     System.out.println("number " + Sketcher.getwidthXXX());
    }They don't compile.
    I get the following error message:
    JavaDemos/testClass2/SketchFrame.java [23:1] cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : variable widthXXX
    location: class JavaDemos.testClass2.SketchFrame
    System.out.println("number " + widthXXX);
    ^
    1 error
    Why isn't widthXXX directly accessible from SketchFrame?
    Thank you again in advance for any help.

    Why isn't widthXXX directly accessible from
    SketchFrame?Because it's a class variable of another class. You have to refer to it as Sketcher.widthXXX.

  • Stupid newbie question

    I am trying to learn JSP. To that end, I use published code to learn the syntax. One set of code is the following:
    NameHandler.java
    package hello;
    public class NameHandler {
        private String username;
        public NameHandler() {
            username = null;
        public void setUsername( String name ) {
            username = name;
              public String getUsername() {
            return username;
    hellouser.jsp
    <%@ page import="hello.NameHandler" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="mybean" scope="page" class="hello.NameHandler" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="mybean" property="*" />
    <html>
    <head><title>Hello, User</title></head>
    <body bgcolor="#ffffff" background="background.gif">
    <%@ include file="dukebanner.html" %>
    <table border="0" width="700">
    <tr>
    <td width="150">   </td>
    <td width="550">
    <h1>My name is Duke. What's yours?</h1>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="150"   </td>
    <td width="550">
    <form method="get">
    <input type="text" name="username" size="25">
    <br>
    <input type="submit" value="Submit">
    <input type="reset" value="Reset">
    </td>
    </tr>
    </form>
    </table>
    <%
        if ( request.getParameter("username") != null ) {
    %>
    <%@ include file="response.jsp" %>
    <%
    %>
    </body>
    </html>There are three other files, but the problem is not necessarily with the other parts. I compiled the java file and have both the .java and .class file in the same folder. I then packaged the site and uploaded it to my hosting site. When I try to run hellouser.jsp, I get the following error:
    The value for the useBean class attribute hello.NameHandler is invalid
    Now, I did try to find out what the error means on the Internet, but I got somewhat confused. There was suggestions of changing scope to type in the header of the .jsp file. Others suggested declaring a public default constructor. Since I am a newbie to Java and JSP program, I am not exactly sure what that is. Also, the site that published this code had very specific places for folders and their contents for the file to be run. Sadly, I can't exactly copy this structure. How can I tell the code to find the resources it is looking for?
    Thank you for your time.

    Hello,
    you have not included code where you are actually using the bean, something like
    username = request.getParameter("username");
    mybean.setUsername(username);If you want this bean to be available to all pages in the application change the scope to session
    <jsp:useBean id="mybean" scope="session" class="hello.NameHandler" />Sometimes when adding a new class such as NameHandler you need to restart the web server for it to be detected.
    Regarding the constructor, you need a "zero argument constructor", which you have done, i.e. there are no parameters in the brackets for NameHandler().
    Instead of using null you could try initialising the variable with
    private String username = "";but I dont think the problem lies with your class, more likely to be the way you are trying to use it within the JSP

  • Page Attributes and Application Class Attributes

    Hi, everyone,
    I am quite new to BSP.
    I have a question here:
    what is the difference between page attributes and application class attributes of a bsp application? As they are both global attributes, there seems to be no big difference when we use them.
    thanks a lot.
    Fan

    Hi Fan,
    a BSP application can be made up of many pages.
    A page attribute is visible only in the page it is associated with.
    Attributes of the application class are visible from every page in that application.
    Cheers

  • Need to isolate error with output with valid input (code included)

    Hey guys, this code will be a bit lengthy as I am posting from two separate Java files: Rectangle.java and RectangleTest.java - Basically I am stumped as to why even valid input keeps resulting in this message: System.out.println("\nThis is a SQUARE, not a Rectangle...Quiting...\n"); . Why am I getting this output? I seriously cant figure this out, and really what I am trying to do is take user input for four sets of coordinates, store them, do some simple math with them to determine if the object they form is a Rectangle and not a square. In the long run I am probably doing the whole thing wrong.
    Here is the Rectangle.java code:
    public class Rectangle {
         private int x1,x2,x3,x4,y1,y2,y3,y4;
         private int length;

    Essentially, I am trying to achieve the following:
    1. Store the Cartesian coordinates for the four corners of a Rectangle
    2. Verify that the supplied coordinates (by the user) do infact make a Rectangle and not a Square.
    Since I don't physically have a Length and Width, but just points, I have to use a little math to create a Length and Width and I came up with ((x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2) to find the length of one side. I thought I would store this as the way to set the Length/Width (setLength & setWidth), but I havent been able to find a way to bridge the user's input in the main() method of the test program to use the values in this formula. Even then, I am not sure if this simple step would at all help validate the object created by the four sets of points is a Rectangle. I thought that a Rectangle might be created by simply by deductive math where if the Length > Width or Length < Width and Width != Length then I would have a what I was looking for.One side is (X2 - X1) the next side is (Y3 - Y2) the 3rd and 4th sides are: (X4 - X3) and (Y4 - Y1).

  • Trouble changing a class attribute in a STATEFULL bsp app - PLEASE HELP!!!!

    hello, i have some trouble changing the value of a class attribute, in certain point of the execution of a statefull bsp app. The scenario is: the bsp app is on a url iview in a portal; i have some link in the portal, that do a window.open (pop up) of that app. the question is: how can i change the class attribute of the bsp app when i close that pop up?, if when i first click the link that show me the pop up, its doesn't create another instance of the class...i mean it continuing working with the same instance of the url iview in the portal. ANY help it will well received. Thanx in advance

    hello Durairaj...yes indeed in the other thread thats the issue with the portal_version attribute, the person who create the iview dont want to change it...so i try to solve it with something else....thats bring me to another problem (posted in this thread). Now i have a question...in the url iview it calls a template that start the bsp app...i mean is not the url iview who calls the bsp app is a middle template...with this scenario can i pass the parameter sap-sessioncmd=open to the url iview or i have to pass it to the bsp app directly when in the middle template i call it??? another question when i pass that parameter via url, it create another instances (apart) of the class or restart the same instance that the app work with until that moment....tell me more about that parameter coz' i am new in bsp and i need help....i will give a lots of rewards point who help me!!! i promise....i am kind of desperade for sure....  thanx in advance

  • Is the task-flow input parameter class value being ignored by the framework

    hi
    Although I don't remember where, I think I read or heard about the task-flow input parameter class value that it is "being ignored by the framework".
    One example of this could be what is currently in the UI Shell sample application available
    at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/uishellapp-134633.zip
    It has in its task-flow in "flows\second.xml" an input parameter configured like
      <task-flow-definition id="second">
        <!-- ... -->
        <input-parameter-definition id="__3">
          <name id="__2">tabContext</name>
          <value>#{pageFlowScope.tabContext}</value>
          <class>oracle.ui.pattern.dynamicShell.TabContex</class>
          <required/>
        </input-parameter-definition>
        <!-- ... -->
      </task-flow-definition>Notice the missing "t" at the end of the class name "oracle.ui.pattern.dynamicShell.TabContex".
    Still this task-flow configuration does allow to use expressions like "#{pageFlowScope.tabContext.selectedTabIndex}", which suggests that the class value is indeed "being ignored by the framework".
    (see also forum thread "does the UI Shell sample break encapsulation in its task-flows"
    at does the UI Shell sample break encapsulation in its task-flows )
    All relevant references (bug numbers, documentation, blogs) explaining about this task-flow input parameter class value are welcome.
    If no such references exist, maybe someone from Oracle can give some feedback.
    many thanks

    That appears to be a bug for which I am seeking confirmation.There is an enhancement request (i.e., 9377487) submitted over a year ago, that describes this behavior. It is listed as an ER as our documentation (e.g., Fusion Developer's Guide for Oracle ADF, online help ) does not specifically state that Java class for the input parameter definition is checked for type. Further anything using EL is untyped. So the expectation that types are enforced is somewhat puzzling to the development team.
    However, there is an acknowledgment within circles of the development organization, that some might come to have this expectation. One trigger might be the definition itself. The other is the existence of a design time audit on the definition. For example, if the class is specified inaccurately (e.g., typo), there is an audit warning to report "not found."
    Under consideration are a number of framework proposals to check for type without breaking backward compatibility or adding overhead to the production environment.
    In the interim, the following recommendations are given.
    Unless this breaks or can break your app in some way, no need exist for change. Nevertheless, if this is a real concern, write a test or consider a java assertion. By default, assertions are disabled at runtime. There is no need to override that default.I have been able to find enhancement request 9377487, "TASK FLOW PARAMETER VALUES NOT VALIDATED ACCORDING TO CLASS", on My Oracle Support. It currently has "Status 15 - To Internal (Oracle) Review" and "Updated 16-Dec-2010".
    In the context of service request 3-4185839067 recently bug 12838099, "THE TASK-FLOW INPUT PARAMETER CLASS VALUE BEING IGNORED BY THE FRAMEWORK", has been filed and it currently still has "Status 16 - Bug Screening/Triage".
    - about "... the expectation that types are enforced is somewhat puzzling to the development team ..."
    Hmm, strange ... so what are people supposed to expect when there is an option to configure a class name for a task-flow input parameter?

  • Newbie Question:  How much computer do I need?

    Newbie Question:
    I would like to use MainStage 3 in a live performance environment to play bars, parties, etc.  I'm not looping, using it to playback recordings, processing outboard equipment or vocal processing.  I want to stop carrying Rolands, Nords, Korgs, etc and get to a controller and a rack with a Mac Mini in it.
    I tested a download of Mainstage 3 on my home Mac Mini (late 2012, 3.5 Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive) and it seemed to run fairly well.  $30 well invested so I trekked forward... I purchased a Mac Mini (late 2009,  2.52GHz Core 2 Duo, 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD) for $200.  I started to do more elaborate keyboard setups to see how the CPU would hold up.  It typically runs from 30% to 50% of capacity (CPU and Memory)  It actually boots and runs better than the i5.  I hear the occasion gitch, but it actually seems to be getting better in time (or I'm rock and roll deaf.
    I got a rack, an Airport Express, a Radial USB interface and a Nektar Panorama P6.  It's starting to get expensive, but I'm emboldened by the actual quality for the sound and the flexibility of arranging for live performance.  What used to take me two and three keyboards to play, I can now fit on one performance patch.
    OK, now the question... am I at the limits of this little Core 2 Duo?  Should I upgrade the i5 with more RAM and a bigger SSD and use that?  Should I get a new(er) i7 and bite the $1,500 bullet for the additional RAM and SSD?
    I see that most of you are running pretty nice Macbook Pros with i7 and lots of everything.  My needs are modest; am I OK?
    BTW, I want to run a Mac Mini in a box because I don't want to carry a laptop out in the open.  If I was doing bigger shows I wouldn't care but I play some rowdy bars and constantly have folks hanging off me while I'm playing.  It's fun, but hard on gear.  If you can't drop it or dip it in beer, it won't last long where I work.
    Matt Donnelly

    Rule of thumb: newer and faster is better. But, depending the complexity of your needs you may be OK with an older Mac. Some glitches that happen in a live performance are due to loss of communication with USB or Firewire inputs, so make sure they're secure. I recently upgraded from a 2010 Mac Mini 2.6 dual core with 16 GB RAM, which was used live for nearly four years, to the latest Mac Mini 3.0 i7 with 16 GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD. I was getting an occasional stuck note with the older one. The new one is rock solid. Some of my patches may have up to a dozen channel strips mapped to three keyboards. The Mini is mounted in a rack next to a MOTU Ultralite Hybrid. It is a good idea to map a panic button on your keyboard to controller # 123(all notes off). Also, you might want to invest in a battery backup power supply(APC, Cyberpower, etc.-$40-$60) to protect your Mac against power loss, which can damage you hard drive.

Value with the tool indicates class="en-in js no-flexbox canvas no-touch backgroundsize cssanimations csstransforms csstransforms3d csstransitions fontface video audio svg inlinesvg" while that is given in Page Source is class="en-us no-js"
    The question is why different values are shown?

    Inspector is showing you the source after it's been modified by Javascript and such.
    To see the same thing in the source viewer, press '''Ctrl+A''' to select everything on the page, then right-click the selection and choose '''View Selection Source'''.

  • Validating Input Email Address via regex

    Hi Experts,
    We have a requirement to validate Input email address for External Partners to be an email address from non-client domain.
    Planning to validate the same using regex in 'Validation' tab of custom attribute 'Z_TEMP_EMAIL_EXT', mapped to the UI task used for External User ID creation.
    Client has two email domains, namely '[email protected]' and '[email protected]'
    I have arrived at below regex for validating the client domain; and attempts to ensure these are NOT input (negative condition) are not working.
    Please suggest how to validate regex for NOT including these domains.
    (1) "^(.*)[\@](clientabc|xyzclient)[\.](com)"
    (2) "^(.*)[\@](clientabc|xyzclient)[\.](.*)"
    (3) "(\Qclientabc\E)|(\Qxyzclient\E)"
    With Regards,
    Ganesh.S

    Hello Ganesh,
    you want negative lookahead with alternation, like this:
    .+@(?!clientabc\.com$|xyzclient\.com$).+
    Please note, though, that the above regex does not provide any POSITIVE guarantee that the input is a valid SMTP address as specified by RFC2821.
    It just provides a negative guarantee that the input is NOT an SMTP address from domains clientabc.com or xyzclient.com.
    Best regards,
    Lambert

  • Newbie question: ""dynamic"" casting

    Hello all,
    <br>
    I have a quite newbie question. I have this class hierarcy:
    <br>
    A
    |_A1
    |_A2
    |_A3
    |_A4
    |_A5
    |_.....
    <br>
    in some part of my code I have this:
    <br><br>
    if (object1 instanceof A){
    if (object1 instanceof A1)      {A1   object2 = (A1) e;}
              if (object1 instanceof A2)      {A2   object2 = (A2) e;}
              if (object1 instanceof A3)      {A3   object2 = (A3) e;}
              if (object1 instanceof A4)      {A4   object2 = (A4) e;}
              if (object1 instanceof A5)      {A5   object2 = (A5) e;}
    object2.callMethod();
    <br><br>
    Is there any way to do this type of casting just in one line? I mean, I just want to cast object1 to the class it is instanceof. If it is instance of A1, I want to be casted to A1, if it is A2 to A2, etc...
    <br><br>
    Thanks you in advance.

    In fact I know what object1 is on execution time,Which doesn't help your compiler at all, when it's task to link and verify method calls.
    because the code posted at the top is working well, i just want to avoid repeating that if's for all the new classes Ax I will create. Big "code smell" here.
    In other words if i had from A1 to A200 i dont want to have 200 if's to cast it to the class it is and then execute it's method.You could call the method "doMagic()" and make it abstract in A. Then you can implement it in all Ax classes and would never have to worry about casting in the first place, because A.doMagic() would automagically do the right thing. Polymorphism.

  • Ins-08109 unexpected error occurred while validating inputs at state 'quick install'

    Dear All,
    I successfully configure clusterware for 2 node rac db. But when i try to install Oracle DB Software i am getting below error on 4 step .
    ins-08109 unexpected error occurred while validating inputs at state 'quick install'.
    Kindly advice over the same.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks John for your update,
    Actually whenever i ask a question on OTN and Sybrand replied over the same every time instead of giving solution or advice he always try to insult other. I know that he is very senior to me and i am here posting query not to waste important time of anyone but to get the solution. Yes i forgot to update the i goggled and applied the recommendation before posting my query here. But this is not the correct way to advice anyone. Infact he also cross out this level where i am. If you think i hurt sentiments of anyone i feel sorry for that. But this is not the right way to advice in fact you all are seniors and we are coming here to learn from you guy's. OTN is not private property of anyone.
    One thing more to say like you advice me calmly it's better to understand me how to do things accordingly now i will do that. Thanks again for your help and i will take care of all these things in future.
    Actually the problem mentioned above i faced first time and after google i didn't get any blog or site with the same mentioned error instead it will give me link mentioned below:-
    [Ins-08109] Unexpected Error Occurred 'Installoptionsui'.
    But mine was
    [ins-08109] unexpected error occurred while validating inputs at state 'quick install''
    I tried one of the blog that states that similar problem occurs when clusterware is not up. First i check whether clusterware is up or not i found that it is up. But still i restarted it and try the installation again but getting the similar problem again.
    In one blog it is mentioned that due to listener misconfiguration the problem occurs. I crosschecked listeners are configured from grid home.
    So applied both the sol which i get by typing the same error which i mentioned above but not successful to get the solution.
    In some website it is suggested that try to contact Oracle Support for the same.
    Ok the problem is sorted out,I do a fresh installation of OS, Clusterware and DB, now i am not facing the same problem. I think the problem is related to group permission. Now this time i mention all the details what i do and what is the result i think now its better to understand.

  • Dumb newbie question -- shell vrs linux console

    This is probably a dumb newbie question, but what is the difference between the shell screen and the linux console screen? I used another system before Arch and I believe there was only the shell screen! Does it matter which one is used?  Thanks -- Larry

    The console is the 2D text rendering thing. The shell is Bash, just a program that handles your input and has the console as output.
    If on the other hand you mean the console at startup, and you call that the console while you call xterm, etc. shells then the answer is different. It's just a matter of configuration if you automatically start X or not. A lot people use gdm or kdm to get a graphical login screen after bootup, others just type "startx" in the console when they want to start X.
    You can switch to the console with Ctrl+Alt+Fn where n is a number between 1 and 6. You can switch between consoles with Alt+Fn, X is on the last console, so to go back to X do Alt+F7.
