Newbie  with Session Bean

Hi guys i wrote a simple Session Bean App ...
The Codes as follows ...
---------DatabaseHome------------------------------------
package DatabaseBeans;
import java.rmi.RemoteException;
import javax.ejb.CreateException;
import javax.ejb.EJBHome;
public interface DatabaseHome extends EJBHome {
DatabaseRemote create() throws CreateException,
RemoteException;
-------------------------DatabaseRemote--------------
package DatabaseBeans;
import javax.ejb.EJBObject;
import java.rmi.RemoteException;
public interface DatabaseRemote extends EJBObject {
public String Query(String input)throws RemoteException;
---------------------------DbBean----------------------
package DatabaseBeans;
import java.rmi.RemoteException;
import javax.ejb.SessionBean;
import javax.ejb.SessionContext;
public class DbBean implements SessionBean {
public String Query(String input)
String modify = input;
modify.concat("ADDEDEXTRA");
return modify;
public void ejbCreate() { }
public void setSessionContext(
SessionContext ctx) { }
public void ejbRemove() { }
public void ejbActivate() { }
public void ejbPassivate() { }
public void ejbLoad() { }
public void ejbStore() { }
The problem is i am using Jbuilder6 to compile the 3 files ..
The Home interface file (DatabaseHome)does not compile coz the compiler saying they cannot find the Remote interface class ...
I am confused .. wherer am i going wrong?

If JBuilder can't find the file then the package is not on the classpath.
You have add the directory above the package the to classpath.
ps package names are normally in lower case

  • Can this be done only with Session Beans ?

    Hi all,
    suppose I have an airline web selling ticket application.
    This is the web flow:
    -The user chooses destinations & date
    -The user chooses seats
    -The user confirms to buy
    If it's NOT required to persist itineraries until the user confirms to buy,
    can this be done ONLY with Session Beans ?
    I think that there aren't cuncurrency problems because even if two persons will book the same flight, they'll get different sequence Id (if the sequence is generated by the DataBase).
    I think the worst scenario is if two person book the last seat at the same time, one will get an error.......
    What do you say to it ?
    Thanks
    Francesco

    If it's NOT required to persist itineraries until the
    user confirms to buy,
    can this be done ONLY with Session Beans ?Yes. Even if persistence is required, you can use only session beans with some persistence mechanism.

  • Toplink Optimistic Locking not working with Session Bean facade.

    I am working on Oracle JDeveloper v 10.1.2 and connecting to an Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit
    The application is based on J2EE architecture and the technology stack uses Struts for presentation/controller framework, Stateless Session EJBs as session facade for custom business services, Simple java classes for the business services, Toplink implementation of DAO layer, Domain objects are mapped to database tables using Toplink Workbench that ships with JDeveloper. The transaction is managed by the session bean and hence the toplink session is configured to use external transaction controller and a named datasource as follows.
    <session xsi:type="server-session">
    <name>DBSession</name>
    <server-platform xsi:type="oc4j-1012-platform"/>
    <event-listener-classes/>
    <logging xsi:type="toplink-log">
    <log-level>fine</log-level>
    <file-name>D:/ToplinkLog.log</file-name>
    </logging>
    <primary-project xsi:type="xml">META-INF/toplink-descriptor.xml</primary-project>
    <login xsi:type="database-login">
    <platform-class>oracle.toplink.platform.database.oracle.Oracle10Platform</platform-class>
    <external-connection-pooling>true</external-connection-pooling>
    <external-transaction-controller>true</external-transaction-controller>
    <sequencing>
    <default-sequence xsi:type="native-sequence">
    <name>Native</name>
    <preallocation-size>1</preallocation-size>
    </default-sequence>
    </sequencing>
    <datasource>jdbc/ORADS</datasource>
    </login>
    </session>
    We intend to use Optimistic Locking based on Timestamp-version locking through an audit field "last_modification_date" of type java.sql.Timestamp. The corresponding database field is also of type Timestamp(6). We are not storing the version in cache.
    The problem we are facing is as follows.. we have an edit screen from where user can edit values for a domain object which are then persisted using Toplink...we expect Toplink to check the database record version (modification_date timestamp) before it applies the update. In DAO implementation, we register the object in a unitOfWork, then set the modified values, however we leave the modification_date (version field) unedited. Now when the application is running, on edit, an exception is thrown by the Session bean before ending the transaction.

    Note that the exception is thrown at the time when the session bean is about to commit the transaction. i.e. the DAO code did not throw any exception and was able to check the optimistic locking and submit the update transaction.
    I am not able to understand why is the the EJB throwing this weird error with Optimistic locking implementation. The application is working fine when the optimistic locking is disabled.
    I am facing another problem due to this problem... since the session bean throws this exception after exiting the bean implemented method, when trying to commit the transaction, I am not able to mark the session context to setRollbackOnly. Hence if I continue on to another transaction by navigating to another screen in the application, mysteriously the previous transaction gets committed!!... again... weird...

    I am using JDBC driver version 10.1.2.
    I saw this additional error message in JDeveloper console, which for some reason was not logged to my log4j log file... if it helps...

  • Reg. Issue with Session Bean -- EJB3

    Have a state full session bean (SFSB):

    But if i change, the state full session bean (SFSB) to stateless session bean (SLSB) i.e @Stateless
    Everything works fine.
    Environment : JBoss as the App Server.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Shailesh,
    Thank you for the reply.
    I checked the JCO's and everything is working fine.
    And to be more clear.
    I have the same application in 2 roles and in ESS role the application is working fine but the user in discussion is an external user and we have config in place for externals.
    In XYZ role where the application is not working we created a new role to satisfy the authorizations. which are same in dev and QA. the application for the user with same authorization is working fine in dev but the same is not working in QA.
    Any other inputs will be helpful.
    Thanks & Regards,

    hallo!
    i have a big problem with the j2ee sdk 1.4. when i want to add an entity bean to my ear-file, everything goes good, but when i put the sql-ql for the finder-method and save the file i got an error like this
    xxxxxxx.ear is corrupt or cannot be read
    when i dont save and will show the descriptor it generates an empty descriptor for this entity bean.
    the problem is, that the deployment tool cannot generate the deployment desciptor for entity beans. with session bean there was no problems.
    hope somebody can help me.

    Hi,
    I have a big problem with session beans, this is what I did:
    - I created a session bean to transport variables from one page to another
    - for example, I created a selectOneChoice button linked to the session bean
    - Now, I select a value in this selectOnChoice and I click a button to calcuate some data. Everthing is executed as expected.
    - If I now open a new explorer on a different PC, than the value in selectOneChoice is set to the value I have set on the other PC. How is this possible and how can I prevent this? It looks like ADF doesn't create a new session...

    "If I now open a new explorer on a different PC, than the value in selectOneChoice is set to the value I have set on the other PC. How is this possible and how can I prevent this? It looks like ADF doesn't create a new session"
    one possibility is that the value is updated to the database and showing the same record in another session will show the selected value as the default

  • Constructors in Session Beans

    Hi all!
    I'm trying to understand the basic concepts of EJB. Starting with Session Beans I read that all these beans must implement a default constructor, for instance:
    public class HelloBean implements SessionBean
    public HelloBean(){}
    ....And I read that also other parametric constructors can be implemented in this bean cass if the sb is stateful.
    Now: I cannot understand why I must implement a constructor when it is never used. I know that the instance is created only after a call of the method create of the ejb home object by the client..May someone expain this issue to me?
    Thanks!!

    Hi albert,
    In EJB, the developer does not use constructors at all for bean classes. The bean must have
    a no-arg constructor so that the container is able to new() the class, but the constructor should
    not contain any code. It's typically better to just not implement the no-arg constructor and let
    the javac compiler automatically generate it according to the standard language rules.
    The way the developer writes instance initialization code in EJB 2.1 (and earlier) is through the
    use of a special create method. The home or local home interface declares the create method
    and its implemented on the bean class using the name ejbCreate. A stateful session bean
    ejbCreate method can have parameters. A stateless session bean ejbCreate method always
    takes 0 parameters.

  • I have got problem to create Session Bean

    Hi
    I am new in j2ee. I have installed the eclipse 3.1, j2sdk1.4.2_07 and tomcat 5.0. I have created a ejb with a session bean and it gives me a error the program doesn't find the class javax.ejb.SessionBean. My question is Can this error happen because I don't have installed J2EE 1.4 SDK and Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.1?
    thank you

    Hi
    I have tried to put the classpath with j2ee in eclipse but it happens the same. it doesn't find the package javax.ejb.SessionBean.
    I am going to explain i have done from the beginning. Maybe I am wrong in something. I think which is that.
    I have create a proyect with Dynamic Web Proyect after i create a proyect with ejbModule. I attempt to create a file with session bean. In last proyect acceded to Run->Run here i select Apache Tomcat and Tomcat v5.0 Server _ localhost and i select the classpath in "bootstrap entries" i insert the file j2ee.jar. And I' ve got the same error.
    is it fine? I am bored trying to find the problem.
    thanks in advanced

  • Example of using session bean with webservices

    Hello,
    I am working with netbeans 5.5 (with JAX-WS 2.0 library) and using Tomcat.
    I have created webservices and everything is working well so far. However, each webservice is making a connection to my database.
    I would like to use a session bean so that I make the connection only once (at the begining of the client session for example) and store it into my session bean.
    I am a newbie in those things, I search on the Web and on this forum some code examples. The only thing I have found is this article http://weblogs.java.net/blog/ramapulavarthi/archive/2006/06/maintaining_ses.html
    When I tried this, the session doesn't seem to work at all : I get the same result (counter=1) twice.
    Does anybody have a complete example of how to use a session with webservices please?
    Thanks a lot!

    Sorry, I was not very clear in my last message.
    I need all my webservices to share the same bean during one user session.
    Then, if a page calls 2 different web services, only 1 database connection is made instead of 2. And if the user opens other pages which call other webservices, they will use the connection kept into the session bean.
    Anyway, I tried to do like it is said in your website but I can not build my project. I have an error : java.lang.LinkageError: JAXB 2.0 API is being loaded from the bootstrap classloader, but this RI (from jar:file:/C:/.../build/web/WEB-INF/lib/jaxb-impl.jar!/com/sun/xml/bind/v2/model/impl/ModelBuilder.class) needs 2.1 API. Use the endorsed directory mechanism to place jaxb-api.jar in the bootstrap classloader. I do not understand because I have downloaded the jax-ws 2.1.1 api and no other libraries are imported in my project. :-(
    I wonder if it is not related to netbeans...

  • EJB 3.0 - Communicate an Applet with a Session Bean

    Hello
    I'm developing an EJB 3.0 app (eclipse and glassfish tools bundle), and I have an applet that has to use remote session beans.
    QUESTION: Is it possible for the applet to connect to EJB?
    QUESTION: By creating a J2EE application client project, can I use @EJB annotations to inject the session bean directly to the applet, avoiding the JNDI lookup?
    (since I imagine that the anwser to the second one is NO, I do the following consideration)
    Given an application client project, I imagine that this application can run remotely on a client machine/JRE. Then this application can use Annotations/injection facilities whenever it runs on a J2EE client container (which I assume consists of a set of libraries provided by the application server vendor, Glassfish in that case). Could this application be deployed using Java Web Start? If so, why can't it be deployed as an applet? (both options run in a client JRE, don't they?).
    QUESTION: In either case (applet or JWS), how do I have to package the JAR file (using Eclipse) so that it contains the needed libraries for accessing the EJB? Which are those libraries?
    At the time being, I'm trying to implement a sample application that follows the "Applet doing JNDI lookup" approach. I have:
    - an EAR project
    - an EJB project (containing an Entity Bean and a Stateless Session Bean with a @Remote interface)
    @Remote
    public interface HelloRemote {
         public String hello(String name);
    @Stateless
    public class Hello implements HelloRemote {
         @Override
         public String hello(String name) {
              return "Hello "+name+"!!";
    }- an Application Client project (containing the applet code):
    public class ClientApplet extends JApplet {
         public void init(){
              try {
                   Context jndiContext = getInitialContext( );
                   HelloRemote server = (HelloRemote) jndiContext.lookup(HelloRemote.class.getName());
                   setContentPane(new JLabel(server.hello("Gerard")));
              } catch (NamingException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
         private Context getInitialContext() throws NamingException{
              Properties props = new Properties();
              props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory");
              props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", "myhost");
              props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "3700");
              return new InitialContext(props);
    }- a static web project (with a sample web page that contains the applet object the corresponding applet JAR file)
    I tried to export the Application Client project as an "application client JAR", in the hope that the java EE libraries bundled with glassfish (listed as libraries of this project) would be packaged too.
    No success, so now I'll try to copy all the JAR files (one by one) into the +\WebContent\+ folder of the Web Project, and add references to each of them in the archive="" attribute of the +<applet>+ HTML tag. Although this might work, I suspect that I am missing the good/easy way of doing it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gerard

    An Applet can communicate with an EJB via JNDI lookup but I would (personally) use an intermediate Servlet to handle this. Client to Servlet communication is http whereas to ejb is iiop - which might be blocked.
    Injection only works in managed classes (EJB, Servlet, Listeners..) and an Application Client main class. So yes you could use an app client for handling resource injection.

  • Using a Statefull Session Bean with RMI on Multiple JSP pages

    Heya all,
    i have a JBoss server running with a statefull bean on it. I want to use it on my JSP pages. But every time I start my JSP-page a NEW INSTANTION of the bean is created! For each user using my page, I want ONE bean.
    Is there anyway to do this? ANything with the sessioncontext?
    I can do it with local beans, using the simple tags in the JSP-page, but they do not work for Remote Beans.
    (I use JNDI)

    hi,
    statefull session beans are client session specific. the instance will exists if client session exits.
    now since u are loading the jsp page again in the other browser, a new instance will be associated with the current session.
    hope it will work.
