Unwanted raw audio track in MP4 export - how to avoid?

Dear everyone,
I recently had some trouble with audio in an iMovie project and exported it to GarageBand, where I did all the audio post production (= three additional audio tracks with voice over, music etc).
Everything went fine, and I exported the GarageBand project using "Share" "Export Movie to Disc" using the "Full Quality" settings to retain the original movie quality.
Now here's the odd thing:
The resulting MP4 file has two soundtracks. Soundtrack 1 is the original, uncompressed sound from the movie's DV clips, soundtrack 2 is the mixdown audio track from GarageBand.
I have tried several playback devices (e.g. a Samsung TV), and it will default to the original track, which I do not want.
Long story short:
How do I get rid of the unwanted original audio track in the MP4 file exported from GarageBand? Can I get rid of it right in GarageBand, or would I need QuickTime Pro or another tool to do it later?
(Again, to clarify: The exported MP4 has two separate audio tracks (shown e.g. as "English 1", "English 2" on a USC-capable TV set. I need to get rif od the raw audio track 1.)
Thanks.

Even the most verbose description has room for misunderstandings.
So, to clarify:
I do actually use the original audio in the GarageBand project. In some clips, it is muted, in some, I add fades.
This is all fine and dandy and part of the mixed, mastered audio - which is exactly as I want it when exporting said MP4/MOV file for example to iDVD. The DVD has the proper soundtrack, and only that.
The problem is that in addition to this correct, GB-mastered audio, I get the totally raw audio as a separate audio track, which is per default played by a Samsung TV's internal MP4 playback engine or a WD TV.
(And I mean "audio track" in the context of the MP4 file, not as in "a GarageBand audio track".)
I hope that clarifies the issue.
Thanks

  • How do I control the number of audio tracks in an exported QT movie?

I am at a loss. I have 59.94 fps DVCProHD files that I want to trim and to export in the same format. The original clips have two tracks of audio, but the exported tracks have eight tracks of audio. I normally use an 8-track audio card, but nothing I do seems to prevent the 8-track export: I have selected "stereo downmix" in the audio mixer tool and set the audio playback device to "Built-in Audio," to no avail. I want the exported files to have the same two audio tracks as the original, not two plus an empty six. There seem to be no controls that allow me to specify this. Can anyone explain to me what is going on and how to change it?
    Thanks.

    Hello Robert,
It might be that your sequence is set to output 8 channels. try this...
Go to Sequence>Setting> and go to the 'Audio Outputs' tab. Here, change the 'Outputs' to 2.
You might also want to check the track-assign buttons on the timeline, ctrl+click on the auto assign square (just to the right of the little padlocks) and go to the Audio Outputs. Check that each track is assigned to 1&2.

  • Is there an easy way to remove audio track from .mp4

    Guys
Wondered if anybody knows of a way to take a .mp4 file with a silent audio track exported and remove that audio track altogether without having to reconvert the video in AME- just deleting the (silent) audio track
Have lots of files that need this and was looking for a way to do this without going back and reexporting  all the clips the hard way
Any thoughts much appreciated-- (I have access to both Windows 7 and WIndows XP pro 64 bit)
    Thanks
    Tony

    Thanks Jim
I figured that would work but for some reason the resulting files did not play correctly--Alternatively I used Mpegstreamclip -opened the video I wanted to erase audio track from--- clicked on "edit--delete audio track" then clicked "save as" and this finally accomplished what I was trying to do--Now have a copy of the .mp4 file wo audio
Thanks for all your help--Hope this thread helps someone in the future
    Peace

  • Unwanted Duplicate Audio Track

I've got a few video clips that keep giving me trouble in iMovie '13. When played back in iMovie, they have a second audio track that is a slow-mo version of the main audio.
I recorded the clips at 1080p on a Nikon d3100. I converted them to 720p using Handbrake and the Apple Universal preset. That process output three .m4v files. Each .m4v file plays just fine. No audio issues at all.
Next, I import the files into a new event in iMovie. Import process appears to go fine. However, when I play back the imported file (whether through the media library or the timeline), a second audio feed appears. This new track is a slow-mo version of the main track. It is delayed by about five seconds and plays right over the top.
I have no idea what's going on. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks for the suggestions.
I wanted to lower the resolution as the 1080p video seemed to be destroying my mid-2011 Mac mini. I thought 720p might be a mit more managable.
I did have the same result whether dragging directly to the timeline or using the import feature.
Ultimately, I solved the problem by "exporting" the 1080p video to 720p files through QuickTime. I must have had some odd setting enabled in HandBrake.

  • Audio tracks vanish on export

Relative newbie here with a bit of a puzzler on my hands. Recently, when I try to export a video from my project (H.264 codec, 720x480, approx 20 mins in length with estimated file size of about 460 mb) the video seems to export just fine, no error messages or anything. However, the file size is only listed as being 392 mb. Sure enough, when I check the exported video there's something missing: my entire second audio track. The audio in track 1 appears to have come out without a hitch and it's perfectly synced and everything but the audio on track 2 doesn't appear to have made it. I've checked around my project settings and track 2 isn't muted or anything like that and I can hear the audio just fine when I preview in the timeline but for some reason it just disappears on export. I've never had this problem before and I can't seem to find anyone else on the internet who's had it either.
Anyway, this is only now showing up as I'm working on the last section of a lengthy project so this is unbelievably annoying. If anyone can help I'd be very appreciative.

Okay, update: I've managed to determine that the problem is not with track 2 but with that one particular audio file. Here's the rub though: I import that exact same audio file into a new project and it exports just fine. Also, I've been using that same file for the past 3 weeks with no issues at all and I don't recall ever changing my settings. So since the audio file itself clearly isn't corrupted and simply doesn't appear to export correctly my new question is: where can I look and what settings can I adjust so that the file exports correctly in that same project again? I could theoretically salvage some of my work but it would take hours of editing the same footage in a new project and I don't really want to do that.

  • 3 audio tracks (centre, right,çeft) : How to make stereo pairs?

    Hi,
Working with one video track and three audio tracks (recorded as Centre, Left and Right) for each clip.
Having problems when I do overlaps or fades manually. I need to treat each track separately as not possible to make them a stereo pair.
Should I duplicate the Centre track and make it a stereo pair and make another stereo pair with Left/Right.
What should be the easiest way/workaround to treat/link the audio tracks so that sound transitions like manual overlaps/fades can be done?
    Thanx

    Hi-
Do your manual fade on one track of the three. Select the track with the manual fade and type command+C to copy it. Select the other two tracks and type Option+V. A window will open that will let you choose to paste only your level settings, pan, or content or any combination of those.
If you have elaborate manual mixing you might want to razor blade just the section of the the three audio clips you want to apply the sound transition to - so as not to disturb other parts of the mix.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adding several audio tracks to quicktime export setting .

I am trying to add several tracks of music to a quicktime movie , created using the export option from iPhoto, but it will only play one track even though I selected 4 tracks and made them default .
    Any genius out there ?
    Thank you

Are any of these tracks DRM tracks from the iTunes store? That will certainly kill the process. Others have reported similar issues but there's not been a one size fits all fix.
There is a workaround but requires a little extra work. Join the 4 tracks into one new track with either Garageband or another audio editor like the free Audacity. Then add the new track to iTunes and into the slideshow.
You can search this forum for "slideshow music" to get other posts on the subject and some possible solutions to try.

  • Audio track of *.mp4 file after import to imovie 09 asynchronous

I've got a *.mp4 file of about 90 min. Picture and audio are synchronous.
After I imported the file to imovie 09 the picture is more and more delayed.
    Why an how to fix?

I have that camera and I can't get it to work with iMovie '08 or iMovie '09. I'm seeing an empty event just like you.
How did you get it to work with iMovie '08?

  • Adding multiple audio tracks to a multicam file

I am editing a multi cam production- and have 8 different audio tracks- separate from the movie files. I have made a multi cam file but any ideas on how to add all 8 tracks of audio to this multi cam file- then edit- and then question no. 2: how do I then export all edited audio tracks separately for my sound engineer to mix them? Thanks a lot

Hi Tom- thanks for your response   I´m not quite sure if you get me right... I have made a multicam file- consisting of 4 cameras- and now I want to add 8 audio tracks that are not connected to any of the cameras- but that were recorded seperately- and have all these 8 tracks lying underneath all the camera angles- being synced up with the cameras internal mics- but I want to edit the 8 audio tracks and finally export them. Thanks

  • Only 1 audio track

This just started happening and I'm not sure why...
I open a clip in the viewer window, it has 2 audio tracks. When I drag the clip to the timeline, it only brings 1 audio track. Any ideas how to fix this?
Also, is there a way to bring just the video track from a clip into the timeline?

Yep, you can bring only video or audio on the timeline.
on the left hand side of the timeline open the gap between a1(source) and A1(destination), a2 and A2 etc by clicking on a1 , a2 etc.
That should answer your first question too.

  • QT H.264 files with two audio tracks. Quicktime plays 2nd track first. ***?

I've been experimenting with H.264 (AVC) and my DVDs. Using Handbrake, I ripped a DVD to MP4 (H.264) and including the director's commentary as the second track.
When I play the MP4 with Quicktime Player, it plays the director's commentary instead of the main soundtrack. VLC, however, correctly plays the first track (main movie audio track) and it allows me to select the second track via a menu.
To get Quicktime to play the proper track, I have to open "Movie Properties" and manually uncheck the second track. This was never a problem with DivX/XviD encoded files with two audio tracks; Quicktime Player correctly played the first track.
Why does Quicktime ignore the first audio track in MP4s (but not AVIs) and is there a way to correct this?

    I do have QT Pro.
H.264 files are usually saved in a MP4 container. That's what Handbrake, ffpegX, and D-Vision create, anyway.
The "Choose Language" option is greyed out (unavailable) when I open this H.264 MP4 in Quicktime. If I try to change the settings in "Movie Properties," it says that I must save it with the .MOV file suffix.
It makes no sense to me that Quicktime Player can correctly identify the main audio soundtrack in a XviD file with an AVI container but not in a H.264 video with a MP4 container which Apple has been touting as the latest, greatest thing. Even VLC, an open source product still in beta, gets it right.

  • Detaching separate video and audio tracks

If I import a video file without audio, and then a music file, why does FCPx snap them together in a way that, if I want to move the first 20 seconds of the clip further away, when I move it forward, it takes the audio track with it?, how can I detach it?

As you can see in the image attached, theese green lines seem to keep united both tracks (or track sectors)

  • Blank audio between audio tracks

I am making a movie to include audio. I've imported audio without problem but want to keep a few sections of the video without any audio at all. I have not been able to do this.
Is it possible to fill in sections with nothing, i.e. placeholders, between audio on the audio track and if so, how?
    Thanks,
    Ken

I'm having a major problem with the narration and soundtrack files. I'm a computer teacher using Adobe Premiere 4. My students created a slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6.0 and imported it into Premiere. They also imported narration wav files that are part of the project (It's a digital story). While in timeline view, we drag the narration files onto the narration line to coincide with the video images. At random times, and for no particular reason, the program creates gaps between the images. When we try to drag the images back into place, more gaps appear.
We've tried many different ways of doing this, but these gaps just continue to appear. The program also creates gaps when we use the time stretch tool to change the amount of time each slide remains in view. In order to properly create a digital story, the timing of each slide is important.
Also, when we add a song to the soundtrack, this problem occurs as well, but only when there is a file in the narration track.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks,
    Pam

  • How can I export an audio track with just the effect signal without the audio?

I want to export dry audio tracks and their effects signals as separate tracks. For instance a track with a reverbed snare would be one track with the dry snare and one with just the reverb.
I know from people who use Reason that it's just a box you need to tick, but I'm struggling to find out how to do it in Logic. Surely it must be a way?

I don't remember Reason being that straight forward, but the obvious way to go, is to mute all sends and bounce.
Then solo the reverb channel, in aux, checking it isn't shared by other sources, and bounce. You should have a dry and a reverbed signal, at your convenience.
