News ticker for flash 8

hey i'm looking for an xml/flash news ticker tutorial for
flash 8. I tried the ones on kirpa.com but i think they're
primarily designed to work on MX...i tried it and it doesnt work in
flash 8.. does anyone know where there is a good flash 8 xml news
ticker tutorial.. if so please post the URL here.. cheers.

A crossdomain.xml file should do it. It's not the server,
lots of domains
can be on the same server.
If your Flash is on domainB.com and you're wanting to get
data from
domainA.com, you'd need a crossdomain.xml file on domainA
like so:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM
http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="domainB.com" />
</cross-domain-policy>

    Hi,
Are you debugging AS 2 or AS 3 files?  Note that the Flash IDE uses the StandAlone Player for debugging AS 3 files.  Also, what issues are you encountering in the player used for Test Movie that is fixed in the browser/standalone players?
    Thanks,

  • Did Adobe give Google & Yahoo new technology for Flash SEO?

I recently read that Adobe gave Google and Yahoo new technology so spiders can crawl thru Flash sites. Not pictures but text. I was wondering if anyone from Adobe could confirm this and if it really does work. As a designer I prefer to work in Flash because I can create more visually pleasing sites. I built my own portfolio site in Flash only to find out it couldn't be indexed! www.kholstudios.com I was heartbroken. That was about a year ago. I am about to begin one now and am not quite sure how to proceed at the moment. Flash or Dreamweaver? I am a newbe coder so please bare with me in the terminology department.  Any input would be helpful.

    advnturgal,
    > What I would ultimately like to do is have an all Flash site that is
    > indexable. I know that is stretching it, but if Google is indexing swfs,
    > what would be the best method to attract the robots
That's a good question, honestly.  As far as I can tell, you really don't have to do much of anything.  According to the URL from yesterday (along with its external references ---
         http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/06/improved-flash-indexing.html
         http://www.sitemaps.org/faq.php
-- it really seems to me that Google (at least) is capable of "clicking buttons" and following at least some logic inside a SWF to "[explore] Flash files in the same way that a person would."  The <meta> tag you showed belongs in the HTML document that embeds the SWF (that tag isn't supported among the few tags Flash Player recognizes), so while it may serve as a communications medium to indexing robots, all it presumably does is lead those robots to the HTML file.  Whether that same "come hither" relates to SWF content inside such HTML documents, I'm afraid I don't know.
    > Is there any trick to naming buttons or page titles in Flash?
According to the Google blog post listed above, Google is "only discovering and indexing textual content in Flash files."  If "textual content" includes symbol instance names -- I suppose it might -- then you could certainly try giving your target-able objects meaningful instance names (click the symbol on the stage, then look at the Property inspector to see the Instance Name input field).  Be aware, though, that not every symbol supports instance names (graphic symbols don't).  By the sound of it, though, Google reads textual content no matter what sort of symbol it appears in.
On the face of it -- and this is conjecture on my part -- there doesn't seem to be a way to "tag" text inside your SWFs like there is with HTML (that is, by putting headings in <h1>, <h2> tags, or the like).
    > I have also heard that linking to other websites is probably even better
    > than using a lot of copy. How does that work exactly?
Not all search engines care about linking (I think), but Google does.  The more other sites link to your website (not you to theirs!), the more relevant Google considers your site.  I don't think it's fair to suggest that linking from other sites is better than having useful copy ... the words on your own site are almost certainly the most important search keys.  I suppose you could ask other websites to link to your own, but that could potentially get spammy on the part of the person asking.
    > Do I have to negotiate with the other website to get permission to link.
    > Is there special terminology for that?
People occasionally link to my blog entries without permission, and I'm glad when they do, because it drives visitors to my site.    If you choose to link to other sites, you'll be helping their page rank.  The Internet is a public place, so as long as you link to publicly available content on someone else's site, you don't have to ask permission.  If you think about it, that's exactly what sites like Google and Yahoo! do automatically!  And it's also what I did by posting the two URLs a few paragraphs up.  There's no special terminology I know of ... just "link" or "hyperlink".
    > I know I have many questions, but this is the place to seek answers.
This definitely is, and there are plenty of helpful people on all of these Adobe forums.    Your particular line of questions is an interesting one, because it balances between HTML practices (think, the Dreamweaver forum) and Flash practices.  In this case, I wish I knew more about the topic, but the links I've shown, while not exactly cornucopias of knowledge, are at least a good beginning.
What I would do, in your case, is prepare at least some relevant copy (text) in HTML format and place that inside a <div> tag on the main page of your website.  Use something like SWFObject (http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/) to replace the content of that <div> for people with JavaScript enabled and Flash Player installed.  People who meet those requirements (most do!) will simply see your Flash content and never know the different.  Google will index both the HTML content and your SWF(s).  People who don't meet those requirements will nonetheless be able to read a summary of what your site is about -- that way, you reach the broadest possible audience.

  • News Ticker Help

Can anyone send me in the direction of a good tutorial, how
to etc.. on creating a vertical scrolling news ticker for my
website. I am new to Dw and while I have found various apps on the
net for creating news tickers, I am guessing it is possible to
create one myself in Dw rather than haing to buy some cheap little
    app.
Any assistance would be very grateful
    Cheers
    TC

This is a dynamic project. If it is constantly checking for
news and then displaying it, this sounds like a good place for some
    spry framework.
It is advanced but you can do it. Go to:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/
    for spry information.
Also www.lynda.com has a ton of courses that will help. It is
a subscription site, but if you really want to learn, it is worth
trying for a month for $25, and if you like it you can do a yearly.
You can really pack a lot into that one month though.

  • Flash player opening in new window even for flash in websites

Ok, so ive searched the net and not found a single person with my problem, if its something easy ive missed im sorry. Flash player opens in a new window for every bit of flash. Like if I go to hulu and start to watch a movie it will not load in browser but open a new window on the desktop and begin playing. If I go to a website that has a flash based set up like the air forces website just the backround will load and the flash thats supposed to be on the page tries to load in a new window like hulu but since its not a movie it doesnt work. It does this for everything flash, meaning if I go to a flash heavy website I see only the html parts and end up with tons of blank flash windows in my task bar I cant bring up. Im running firefox but it does it for ie too so I dont think its a browser issue.

That resolved the issue. Thank you so much.

  • Adding new hard drive for Flash recovery area

i am adding new hard drive for flash recovery area. How i can make single directory on that flash recovery area & how i can test that i am accessing that rightly , to that directory & flash back recovery area disk?

Are you on Windows or Unix? And are you using ASM?
I'll assume you are on Windows....So after allocating the drive, you will format it say as F drive. Then you can create a directory T:\Flash. The parameter determining the location of the flash recovery area is db_recovery_file_dest. But you also need to set the size of the flash recovery area as well. After that's done. You can do your backups to Flash and see if the directory is populated.

  • New Naming Convention for Flash Player Installers

My operating system is Win7 64-bit.
After updating the Flash Players to 10.1.53.64 (for Flash Pro CS5), I noticed the names for the plugin installers have changed from "Install Flash Player 10 ActiveX.exe" and "Install Flash Player 10 Plugin.exe" to:
    "InstallAX.exe" and "InstallPlugin.exe".
Can these new installers also replace the old ones in Flash Catalyst CS5 (as in copy/paste then delete the ones with the old names)?

Since this is not really a standard Flash Player question / issue, perhaps you should ask in the appropriate Flash forum?

  • Adobe story online isn't loading. I just get the loading bar going on for hours. I've restarted my browser, deleted my cookies, installed the newer version of Flash and still no loading.

Adobe story online isn't loading. I just get the loading bar going on for hours. I've restarted my browser, deleted my cookies, installed the newer version of Flash and still no loading.

Nope still nothing going incognito, or doing it through different browsers. I guess the other thing is a an online picture editing program told me I needed to update my flash, so I tried to install it several time but am not sure if it actually did. Now some video players (that had previously worked) command me that I need a newer version of Flash. What happened?

  • New 9.0.2 update for Flash CS3 Professional

I just ran the new Flash CS3 Professional update via the
Adobe Updater. Everything ran and reported the update was
successfully completed. However Flash still says it's 9.0.0.494 in
the Finder and when choosing About Flash from the program it says
9.0. Just wondering if the update really happened or not.

Bentley: There is a downloadable update available NOW. And
based on what you say the language is confusing.
    12/12/2007 Adobe Flash CS3 Professional (9.0.2) delivers
support for the latest update of Adobe Flash Player 9. This update
includes a new Video Playback component supporting H.264, support
for Flash Lite 3 Update for Flash CS3 Professional, and all Debug
and Release versions of this new Adobe Flash Player. For users of
Flash CS3 Professional, this update will also be available via
Adobe Update Manager in Flash CS3 Professional.
It states "Adobe Flash CS3 Professional (9.0.2)". You should
change that, as it does not appear to be the case. The language
definitely implies that the program itself will be updated to
    9.0.2.

    Please help me.
I would be grateful for any help solve the problem.
    Regards!

There are many people complaining about this in other threads.  I found the solution from kglad in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5750996
You can get Flash CC to publish to version 9 player by putting these two files in these locations:
    This file: http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/5510986-147069/Fl ashPlayer9_0.xml
    Goes here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CC\Common\Configuration\Players\FlashPlayer9_0.xml
    This file:  http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/5510986-147068/pl ayerglobal.swc.zip
    Goes here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CC\Common\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0\FP9\playerglobal.swc
You may need to create the FP9 folder.
Restart flash and you should see Player 9 in your publish options.  You'll have to find the AS3 clickTag code.

  • Hi, i'm a new member of this community. I've recently learn about flashback malware and other threats to Mac devices. I've installed the new Mac OS X update for Lion 10.7, and the flashback removal tool. what about the update for Flash Player?

    Hi,
i'm a new member of this community. I've recently learn about flashback malware and other threats to Mac devices. I've installed the new Mac OS X update for Lion 10.7, and the flashback removal tool. What about the update for Flash Player? Should i install it? Otherwise, should i permanently remove this app?
    I realy need some advice.
    Thank's to all.

Be sure to install the latest version of Safari (version 5.1.7) which is available via Software Update (in the Apple menu) if you have not already installed it. This update will automatically disable older versions of Flash when new versions are available, and will instruct you on how to install the latest version on your system. This should help keep your system safe from any vulnerabilities in Flash.
Note that this is only useful if you use Safari, though other browsers have their own update mechanisms you should research and enable or configure to your liking.

  • Disable update notification for Flash Player 15.x and newer

    Dear all
We run a Citrix Environment (on Windows 2008 R2) and we have our monthly update window. Users complain that they get update notifications for Flash Player when a new version is available but they cannot install the update since they have no permissions to install or update any software on our locked down Citrix environment. We tried already all availabe guides regarding "disable update notification for Flash Player" but no guide seems to work with the latest Version 15.x.
Which registry key's oder files do we have to modify with what values to finally disable update notifications for Flash Player.
Thanks a lot for your help!

New iMac. Flash drive is primary for OS and apps.  I want to use my HD 2 (1 TB hard drive) for my bulky photo and music files.  Can I direct iPhoto and iTunes to use the larger hard drive as the primary target when importing?

Yes.  Unfortunately, I don't know the specifics because I don't use iPhoto anymore and I completely copied over 15 years of MP3 files recently when I installed 10.7.  Needless to say, I have not opened iTunes since and probably never will again - not because of iTunes but because of my stupidity.  I did have some of the files backed up but I hadn't backed up in a while.......anyway....
When I imported my CD's, I had them go directly to my external firewire.  I can't remember exactly how to set it, but in the preference section of iTunes you can specify an import destination to any drive that's available to your machine.  I did this with iPhoto as well way back at one point when I was using Tiger, but I don't remember the specifics on that either.  I can't imagine they would have discontinued support for that feature since then.
    Sorry I couldn't help more.
