NI PXI-4065 attached to PXI-1033 strange problem

Hi all,
I have a NI PXI-1033 Chassis together with NI PXI 4065 DMM and NI PXI 6514 device.
The problem that I have is very annoying. When I restart my computer or install a new NI feature, the two NI PXI-6514 and PXI 4065 are no longer available as shown at the picture attached and I have to reinstall the drivers in order they to function properly. Why is this happening? Is it normal?
I will appreciate every help because it is urgent and important. Thank you!
Best,
Iliya Gurov

I know this topic is ancient but I'm having a similar problem with my system:
PXI-1033 (thru external PC / PCIe)
DAQmx 9.2.2
LabVIEW 8.5
Windows 7 (32-bit)
When starting MAX it gives the MAXPXITimeout error. Then MAX crashes most of the time or when it works, none of the devices are "present" according to MAX, i.e no initialize, fail self-test, etc. I tried this command "net start nidevldu" and I get a "windows system error 5 - access denied". So I ran the command prompt as administrator and then the NI Device Loader "successfully started". Now MAX works OK and all my devices are working, until next reboot. Is this a permission issue? I tried changing the NI Device Loader service to log as an admin, but no luck. After rebooting the same issue.
Appreciate the help. Thanks,

  • NI PXI 4065 DMM Measurement Information

    Hi everyone, I am using the NI PXI 4065 DMM for a voltage measurement.  I am using the NI DMM READ.vi to read a single measurement.  I am setting the NI DMM resolution to 6 1/2 digits when I take my measurement.
    I am trying to figure out if any averaging is done in a single measurement.  Per the NI 4065 spec (attached to this post), for a measurement with 6 1/2 digit resolution the aperature time is 100 NPLC.  Here are my questions:
    1. What is the total amount of time it takes to take one measurement with the DMM set up to 6 1/2 digit resolution?
    2. What is the default aperature time for 6 1/2 digit resolution?
    3. How many samples are being averaged when the DMM is setup to 6 1/2 digit resolution with aperature = 100 NPLC?
    Thanks so much!

    Hi,
    Yes, in a single measurement there is averaging done.
    The amount of time it takes to take one measurement depends ont he aperature time. So, for example, if your power input to the chassis is a 50Hz line and you choose an aperature of 100 NPLC the time it would take is 1/50 *100 so this would be 2 seconds.
    This document provides information on the default values for the 4065:
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370384N-01/dmm/4065_dmm_defaults/
    As you can see the default aperature time for 6 1/2 digits is 200ms
    The number of samples per average is unfortunately not published.

  • PXI 4065 - resistance depends upon range

    Hello!
    I am using a PXI 4065 DMM to measure 2-wire resistance through the soft front panel. The strange thing is that when I measure the resistance, it depends upon the range! For Instance, if I set the range to 10M, I read 0.9M, if I set the range to 1M, I read 0.15M, if I set it to 100k, I read 93k. How do I know which is correct? Autorange gives me 1.5M and a fluke 40Mohm dmm gives me an open.
    Also when I use labview to collect the resistance data, and I set the range to auto, it does not give the same value as when I measure with the soft front panel or a fluke DMM.  In fact the fluke DMM and the PXI often differ by an order of magnitude or more.
    How do I use the PXI DMM to read the correct resistance value?
    Thank you,
    Joe

    Joe,
    This is not uncommon with many ohmmeters.  If you look at the specifications for the 4065, you will see that the test current changes with range. 10 M => 500 nA, 1 M => 5 uA, 100 k => 10 uA. (20:1 range of current)  If the device you are measuring has any non-linearity or energy storage, the reading may be different on each range.
    Probably ALL of the measurements are within the accuracy specification of the meter (~100 to 500 ppm of reading).  You are just measuring something different on each range.
    To decide what is the "correct" reading, you need to carefully define the measurement conditions. In particular the applied voltage or current at which the measurement is made.  If the device being measured has energy storage or non-linearity, you must also specify the history of applied voltage or current over time to accurately define the measurement.

  • PXI 4065

    Can you capture a 2 msec, 500 mv pulse ( output from an accelerometer) with a PXI 4065 ( set to 4.5 dig resolution= 3KS/sec ) without ext trigger?
    So far my experimentation says NO but just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

    I'm assuming you are using LabVIEW here.  If not, then we'll have to look somewhere else.  But look in the LabVIEW Example Finder.  I did a serach for "DMM waveform" and found a little example called Fetch & Graph Waveform.vi.

  • DMM (PXI-4065) sample multipoint

    If my PXI-4065 is executing a niDMM_ReadMultiPoint call, is it possible to call niDMM_Read (or some other function) from another thread and get the latest value read by the DMM while the ReadMultiPoint is executing?  It seems if I call niDMM_Read from another thread, it waits until the ReadMultiPoint completes before it executes.

    Hi gstemp,
    Thank you for posting on the forums.  Unfortunately you will not be able to perform these reads and the same time, the 4065 only has 1 Analog to Digital converter so you can't make 2 measurements at the same time.  You could either do a multipoint read and take lesss points so it updates faster or take a single point read and use and loop to continously aquire the data.  I know that this is not ideal for your situation but what you are trying to do is not actually possible with a DMM.
    I hope that helps,

  • ADLINK PXIe-3985 Controller - NI PXIe-1062Q Chassis Compatibility

    Hello forum members!
    we recently purchased  a PXIe-3985 ADLINK PXIe Embedded controller to be installed in a NI PXIe-1062Q PXIe chassis. In our system is also present a NI PXIe-6672 Timing Module, installed in the chassis timing slot (4). Windows 7 installation, NI MAX toolsuite and NI PXIe-6672 Timing Module driver installation worked fine, but we discovered that the CPU is not able to recognize the TIMING SLOT. We cannot generate any PXI STAR signal with our NI PXIe-6672 Timing Module because it appears that the TIMING SLOT is recognized as normal peripheral slot. The PXI trigger lines and clocks are working well and usable, but not the PXI STAR signals.
    I also tried to install the PXIe Chassis in the NIMAX toolsuite as explained in the PXIPLATFORM _50-17049-100_200.pdf document from ADLINK.
    basically in the NIMAX device and interface tab I right click and try to add the pxie chassis.
    First it is not understandable how can I find the bus identifier root of the chassis. There is a PXI bus tree, but no evidence of the PXI bus related to the chassis.
    Furthermore even if I select one PXI bus, the NI PXIe-1062Q PXIe chassis is not listed and trying to load the corresponding .ini file from C://programs/nationl instruments/PXI/PXIe Chassis/ returns the error “Could not import Chassis information. Error Code 0xFFFB380E”
    is the ini file working at all for my PXIe chassis? is there another procedure that I must follow to have my  timing controller working or the chassis installed?
    We definitely need this capability to test our equipment and I would like to know if there are known incompatibility issues between these three devices:
    PXIe-3985 ADLINK PXIe Embedded controller
    NI PXIe-1062Q PXIe chassis
    NI PXIe-6672 Timing Module
    And in case if there is an update or workaround which solves the issue.
    The system has Win7 32bit installed.
    Many thanks to every answering user

  • How to use PXI Star Trigger for PXIe-5663 in PXIe-1075 chassis

    HI all,
    I have this sytem configuration:
    PXIe-8135 controller. Windows 7 64-bit, RFSA 2.7.5. NI-SYNC 3.4.1
    PXIe-1075 chassis
    PXIe-5663 (2x)
    PXIe-6672 Timing & Sync Card (slot #10)
    I want to trigger the recording of my Digitizer with an external trigger.
    The External Trigger is connected to PFI0 of the PXIe-6672 Timing card.
    Then, the PXIE-6672 card routes the trigger to the backplane of the PXIe-1072 (Destination "NISYNC_VAL_PXITRIG0")
    The PXIe-5663 are triggered with “NIRFSA_VAL_PXI_TRIG0_STR” as the source.
    The trigger fires my PXIe-5663 correctly, but the timing is not tight (> 5ns).
    I would like to use the PXI Star trigger instead, I think that I should be able to acheive much better synchronization with this.
    But NI-RFSA won't let me do this:
    When I try to call
    "niRFSA_ConfigureDigitalEdgeStartTrigger(rfsa_session, NIRFSA_VAL_PXI_STAR_STR , NIRFSA_VAL_RISING_EDGE)", I get the error:
    "Specified Route Cannot Be Satisfied, Because the Hardware Does Not Support It"
    I don't understand why the PXIe-5663E would not be able to use that Route.
    Any idea?

    That explanation isn't quite right. Usually, even PXIe modules have a connection to PXI_Star. The PXIe standard added the PXIe_DStar trigger buses, and it also preserved the PXI_Star bus from the PXI standard.
    However, there is an additional twist in this situation. I'm assuming that your PXIe-5663 includes a PXIe-5622 as the digitizer. It turns out that a synchronization technique called NI-TClk has eliminated the need for our more recent digitizers to rely on triggering from PXI_Star. I was able to find some documentation that includes this information, here and here. Given that, I think you have two options that should result in better synchronization.
    The first option is to use TClk; I found an example program that demonstrates using TClk to acheive phase coherent signal acquisition across two 5663s. The second option is to use cables of matched length to connect two PFI front panel terminals of the timing board (6672) to the PFI1 front panel terminals of the digitizers (5622). The timing board would accept the external trigger on PFI0 and then issue triggers on PFI1 and PFI2 with around 500 ps of skew (manual, page A-4) . The digitizers would use NIRFSA_VAL_PFI1_STR as the trigger. I hope one of these solutions will meet the demands of your particular application.
    I will also follow up with the owners of the RFSA product documentation to see if we can include a note about why PXI_Star is not supported in some cases.

  • Using PXI-6682(H) in PXI Express chassis to replace backplane clock

    I have a PXI-6682H in a PXIe-1075 which I use for event timestamping.  I also have a PXIe-6672 card in the timing slot.
    I would like to replace the 10 MHz backplane clock to use the 6682 as a GPS disciplined oscillator and synchronize multiple PXI chasses.
    I understand from the block diagram in the manual that the PXI-6682H does not possess the connection to directly replace the backplane clock as the PXI-6682 does in a PXI chassis.
    Is there any way for me to replace this clock? Perhaps using an external connection?  If so could you briefly explain how this would work and what software steps would be required?

    Hello Gregoryng,
    It might work since the PXIe-6672 and the PXIe-6674T are both timing and synchronization modules, but the best option would be the PXIe-6674T, which is able to work with other protocols such as GPS while the  other cannot. It seems that in the video they use GPS.
    I think the PXIe-6672 will not work for this with the PXI-6682H, but you can give it a try.
    The one in the video seems to be a PXIe-6674T.
    Regards.

  • Can't replace PXI onboard clock with PXI-6682 oscillator clock on PXI back plane

    I have installed a PXI-6682 timing module in slot 2 of a PXI-1031chassis with a PXI-8110 controller running Hypervisor and RT.  The 6682 is installed on the RT system under Hypervisor for GPS timing during measurements but I would like to put the TCXO on the PXI-1031 chassis backplane (replacing the PXI onboard clock).  When I try to run the "Route Clock.vi" that I found in the example finder, all I get are error messages indicating that a parameter for this operation is invalid.  The source terminal is "Oscillator" and the destination terminal is "PXI-Clk10_In".  How do I determine which parameter is invalid?  Any suggestions?  Thanks

    Hi vugt,
    I tested this out and have what I believe to be your final answer.
    The short answer:  The PXI-6682 can be used with NI-Hypervisor on the Windows side, but not on the Real-Time side.
    The long answer:
    While the NI-Hypervisor Manager allow you to put the PXI-6682 on two different systems, it is still only one PXI card on the PCI bus, so really only one system can access it at a time.
    Therefore we need to assign both "devices" to either Windows or Real-Time.  For our purposes, let's assume we assign it to Real-Time.
    On an NI-Hypervisor system, each PCI interrupt line can only be assigned to one operating system.  Either it can be assigned to Windows, or it can be assigned to RT.
    Here is where the problem arises: The PXI-6682 needs to be located in a System Timing slot (generally slot 2).  However, this slot (at least in the 1000B chassis I tested in) is located on the same PCI interrupt line as the chipset.  Windows is required to have access to this PCI interrupt line, so devices used by Real-Time cannot be located on this interrupt line.
    This prevents us from being able to use the PXI-6682 in Real-Time.
    The NI-Hypervisor Manager will try to tell you to resolve this conflict by moving the PXI-6682 to slot 3, however, now the System Timing slot requirement is not met.
    This does not prevent the card from being used on the Windows side of an NI-Hypervisor system, or on a purely Real-Time system.

  • Strange Problem - Cluster of References

    Hello guys
    I had a strange problems using a cluster with references.
    How to reproduce the problem:
    - open a blank VI;
    - create two graphs in the front panel;
    - in the block diagram, create references for both graphs;
    - connect these references to a bundle (not bundle by name);
    - create an indicator for the bundle;
    - run the VI once;
    - right click on the bundle indicator and change it to a control;
    - delete references and bundle;
    - select the control in the front panel, go to EDIT, CUSTOMIZE CONTROL;
    - change to strict type def;
    - save this control as Control1.ctl;
    - connect the control to a unbundle by name;
    - right click on the unbundle by name and select one of the two graphs as an item (doesn't matter which one you select);
    - create a property node and feed its reference terminal with the reference from the unbundle by name;
    - use the property "Label.Text" in the property node;
    - create an indicator for the the property node;
    - run the VI;
    - the indicator will show the correct label for that graph;
    - perfect!!!
    If you save the VI and run it again, everything is fine.
    But............... if you close it, open again and run.... you will get an error 1055 "Object reference is invalid".
    Why it was working before closing?
    Find attached the VI and the Control.
    Thanks

    Let see if I can answer before I have to start working.
    Do a quick experiment.
    Use a Type cast to cast your ref as a U32 and show that value on the FP.
    Save the VI run it and record the number on the FP.
    Mod the vi save it clsoe it open it and run again. The number should have changed.
    That is the issue you facing, the ref number changes so you need one that is valid when you run.
    How I do it;
    I use an Action Engine (see this Nugget to learn what an Action Engine is) that servse as a GUI controller and lets me get at refs where even I need them. The following is a case study.
    First I collect all of th refs I will need and bundle them in a type def. I sue a state machine to do the bundling if there are a lot.
    THe bundled clsuter get passed to an GUI Controller Action Engine
    Inside the Init I check the refs to make sure they are vlid. THis has saved a lot of wated time chasing invalid refs.
    If they were valid I cache the refs.
    For major mode changes that demand a lot of GUI punching I create sub-VI to do the dirty work.
    When ever other codes needs a ref to the GUI I have a method that returns the refs.
    THe following shows another VI using those GUI refs.

  • Strange problem on CSS with MS Terminal Server

    I have a strange problem on my CSS. I suspect that this started when we upgrade from 7.30 to 7.50.
    We have 2 CSS in an box to box redundandcy. The front end is connected to VLAN 1 the usernetwork. The backend is connected to several different VLAN, each for a different purpose. One VLAN has 6 MS terminal servers. The problem that we have now is that remote sites (so sites connected via a MPLS WAN) cannot setup a terminal server session via the VIP of te Service. The users on the LAN can reach the terminal server via the VIP. The remote users can reach the individual TS by going directly to the TS but this is not why we have a CSS.
    Does anyone have encounterd this problem and how was it fixed?
    Thanks,
    Attached the config of the CSS.

    There is absolutely nothing wrong in your config.
    It is also a very straghtforward setup, so there is no reason why it should not work.
    Could you capture a 'sho summary' and verify if you have any hit on the corresponding content rule.
    Capture a 'sho serv summary' and verify your term server are up.
    Capture a sniffer trace front-end and back-end while trying to connect and see if the traffic is correct forwarded.

  • Very strange problem / Perpetual command key

    I've been using OS X since its inception, and have never had this problem before.
    Starting yesterday, I noticed a very strange problem that was happening randomly. When I clicked on an app in the dock, it would just reveal the app to me in Finder rather than opening it. Other problems including multiple selections when single-clicking on items with my mouse, and not being able to type. After some fidgeting, I realized that my iMac is acting like I'm always holding down the command (apple) key. If I have a window open, for instance, pressing the H (just by itself) key will hide the window. Pressing Q will quit whatever is active.
    I shut down, restarted, plugged in a different keyboard, used a different mouse, unplugged all my periphs, deleted all haxies and their attached files, and it still happened. I unplugged my 2nd monitor, and that seemed to fix it after another restart... but then I plugged in my 2nd monitor again and restarted, and now everything is fine. It's just happening randomly. I'm afraid to restart my Mac now. This is really bizarre!!!
    Someone please help!

    If it's any help, it started right after the following:
    When booted to Vista one night, I noticed ghosting on my nice new iMac screen which kinda irked me. I could see the menubar with the Spotlight menu icon burned into the screen.
    So when I got back into OS X I looked for a menubar hider. I tried Menushade and Menufela, both of which are quite old... probably before any mention of an Intel switch had ever occurred.
    But now I had a problem... no clock. So I went ahead and downloaded Yahoo! Widget Engine (aka Konfabulator). I know, I know... what a crazy workaround just to hide the menubar (this is why it would be GREAT if Apple would build in its own menubar hider option!)
    Anyway, this stuff started happening, so I deleted all of those apps (Menufela, Menushade, and Yahoo Widget Engine) with AppZapper (a great little app).
    Ugh... this is what you get for experimenting with homegrown apps, I guess.
    Anyway, hope that helps.
