Niggles with Windows Vista Business

Hi,
I am new to Windows Vista and just installed PC Suite V6.86.9.3 for my N95 8GB on a new laptop. It works but I have a couple of niggles.
Initially, I just decided to pair my phone via bluetooth before installing PC Suite. That worked with XP. But Vista forced me to install PC Suite in order to find drivers. It then kept telling me that 3 Bluetooth peripherals did not have drivers. PC Cuite appears to work OK but 3 unamed Bluetooth peripherals are still highlighted in device manager. I wondered if anyone else had come across this before?
Also when connected via USB cable I get the "safe to remove hardware" icon in the notification area. This also did not happen with XP. When I clikc the icon it asks to stop 6 or seven activities with the phone. Is it safe to click stop, that is will it harm the phone> or can I just disconnect as I did on XP.
I am running Vista Business SP1 on a Dell XPS 1330.
Many thanks

I was puzzled by a similar driver problem - after installing PC Suite my recently installed Vista Ultimate kept asking for three other drivers.
After a couple of days of wondering, I then found a Bluetooth stack for my new computer from the manufacturer's support pages. My laptop is Fujitsu Amilo, and I found an installation package by Toshiba (i think the maker of the Bluetooth circuit on the motherboard) - so search the support pages for your computer.

They're not installed by default on Vista Business edition, but they can easily be added:

  • Acrobat X Pro advertised as compatible w Windows Vista Business

I just purchased Acrobat X Pro and it was advertised as compatible with Windows Vista Business.  I tired to install it and kept getting an error telling me my system was insufficient to run Acrobat X Pro.  I checked the specs again, I icheck the computer configuration and everythin was within spec.  i called tech support and they told me that I had to upgrade to Windows 7.  Now that I have acquired a serial number I am told I can not return Acrobat X Pro so I am stuck with a product I can't use and looking at another $200 to upgrade to Windows 7.  I am very unhappy.  I have been a Adobe used for many years including previous versions of Acrobat Pro I am a user of Creative Suite and Photoshop also.  Adobe used to be a great company with great products.  Now it looks like I'm SOL if there is no solution to this issue!

I strongly disagree with what you were apparently told. Folks have been running AAX on XP since it came out and VISTA is a step above that. There are three things to consider when you do the install: 1. Log in as an administrator; 2. Empty the TMP folder; and 3. disable anti-virus. If you continue to have problems, please try to capture the error (screen capture) and post that here.

  • Window Vista Business

    Hi,
A little while back I bought a T-400 with windows Vista Business preloaded. In the initial stages of loading software etc got frustrated with some drivers issue and thought of dowgrading it to XP from the recovery CD provided, formated the drive and loaded the XP with upgrades etc from the web (before this online updating was discontinued).
My question is how can I reinstall Vista, all i have is a sticker at the back and did not make the backup before formating, thanks.

I also have my T400 downgraded to XP for a while then I have requested a set of recovery CDs from LENOVO in order to have Vista Business reinstalled.

  • External Monitor with Bootcamp (and Windows Vista Business)

It looks like this has been discussed quite a bit already, but as a computer neophyte I've had a hard time deciphering an answer that applies to my unique circumstance. So apologies if some of you've already been over this.
    Anyway, here's my question/problem:
My second monitor (Gateway HD2250) doesn't work when I'm using Bootcamp (Windows Vista Business). I'm running a VGA cord from the Gateway monitor to a VGA adapter that's plugged in to the back of my Mac. My computer's a late '06 iMac w/ Mac OS X 10.5.5. BTW, my virtual Windows does seem to register the second monitor; it's just that nothing shows up on the Gateway screen.
    Ideas for help? Thanks everyone!!

I managed to get an upgrade version of XP to run by using the internal DVD drive for the main all disc and an external DVD drive for my qualifying disc. Has to be that way round because the Apple keyboard ceases to function for a while and the required USB windows keyboard dosen't have an eject button. The whole business was very painful however, trying to get the installer restarts to select the correct drive each time.

  • \\SERVER\Clients\Setup\setup.exe with Windows Vista Error

I added the first Vista client to an SBS 2003, SP1 domain.  Until now, all clients were WinXP, SP2.  Office 2003 is installed on the XP clients, and the Vista client, which may not be pertinent to this problem.
As is normal, "\\SERVER\Clients\Setup\setup.exe /s SERVER" is executed when a user logs on to any domain client.  On the Vista client, I always get the dialog -- regardless of the account privilege -- asking for permission to run Setup.exe.  It is annoying.  Occasionally, the Program Compatiblity Assistant will appear and advise there's a known compatiblity issue with Setup.exe.  It points to KB article 926505 for resolution.  The title of the KB is, "Windows Small Business Server 2003: Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 compatibility update."
When I run the SBS2003SP1-KB926505-X86-ENU.EXE fix, I get the error:  "This update cannot be installed.  Either it is already installed as part of an existing service pack, or it requires a more recent service pack.  For more information, see the systems requirements on the download page."
I installed Windows Server 2003 SP2 and run the KB926505 fix, but I get the same error  "This update cannot be installed.  Either it is already installed as part of an existing service pack" After a reboot of te SBS server the same  problem on the Vista client, I always get the dialog -- regardless of the account privilege -- asking for permission to run Setup.exe.  It is annoying.  Occasionally, the Program Compatiblity Assistant will appear and advise there's a known compatiblity issue with Setup.exe.  It points to KB article 926505 for resolution.
The problem is Windows Vista Business, because all windows XP clients have no problem at all.

    PNP,
You do not say whether if you accept the permission dialog whether the setup continues or not, but the short answer to the question revolves around UAC.
Remember that EVERY user (except the actual Administrator account) has only Standard user rights regardless of group.  When a task that requires Admin rights is executed, one of three things will happen: 1) If you are THE Administrator, then your task will continue.  2) If you have Admin rights, you will be prompted that a process is trying to use elevated rights and ask for permission, or 3) If you are a Standard user, you will either be denied flatly or prompted to supply credentials.  Which of these happen depend on GPO settings, but the default is to prompt.
In any event, I believe that this is what you are running into, and is one of the big feature improvements in Vista.  Yes, it can be a bit annoying (Try deleting an "All Users" icon from the Start Menu!) but is there to place one more barrier between virus and malware writers and your OS.
If it's TOO annoying to bear, you can turn off UAC by going into your profile and disabling it. (It requires Admin rights, of course. )  It is not recommended as you do a very effective job or nutering the Vista Security Model by doing so.
If it, of course, your choice.  we IT Admins have a lot more issues with this than the standard user, but for me, I gladly take the tradeoff because I worry a lot less about those few I HAVE to give Admin rights to.
    Good luck!

  • In Windows Vista business 64 bits...Itunes can't load data information class...

Can't sync Iphone 4 with Itunes versión 10.7.0.21, in Windows Vista business 64 bits. Already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and also finding sqlite3.dll and the other dll... and nothing. Renamed the sycservices folder and nothing, copied corefoundations.dll and folder to system32 and nothing...
This is becoming very annoying... any tips?.
    Thanks.

    Hi!,
Thanks for your reply but I keep having the problem. I've been investigation through the Internet and I beleive is a COM situation or something is in conflict with iTunes, either way I manage to compare a similar environment (Win Vista 64 bits Business with iTunes running) and figured out that process "Syncserver.exe" is not running and neither is running "ATH.exe".
I'm reading more about what could possible causing these two process from being executing as they should.
        Thanks.

  • Captivate is not compatible with Windows Vista RTM

I can confirm that Captivate 2 is not compatible with Windows
Vista (RTM Final MSDN). I have been testing it on several systems
with various versions of Vista. It had partial success with RC2,
but with RTM it crashes quite frequently (when vista is drawing new
windows). I can't tell however if captivate is directly responsible
or if it is perhaps an incompatible version of Flash (current using
latest version 9 beta) that is to blame. However, since Vista is at
RTM then I would say that it is now the responsibility of Adobe to
fix the compatibility issues with a new update. Technically vista
is not due to domestic market until january 07, however businesses
will be able to purchase vista in only two weeks, and as Captivate
is generally used for business/training use i would certainly think
that it should be of high importance that these issues are
    resolved.
Can anyone else comment on their experiences with Captivate
    and Vista?

    Hi cptv8
I appreciate your taking the time to report back your
findings about Vista. Perhaps it will be helpful to those that are
    early adopters.
    You stated:

weeks, and as Captivate is generally used for business/training use

You have a valid point. However, you are making it in the
wrong venue. How? Well, Adobe doesn't normally make it a habit of
visiting the peer-to-peer support forums. This means users
supporting users. If you are concerned that Adobe is aware of this
issue, you should really consider using a different channel. The
Wish Form. And you can easily get there by simply
    clicking
    here.
Now I don't claim to be a guru of anything in particular, but
it seems to me that businesses are very slow to adopt things. They
tend to take a very pragmatic and slow approach. Many are just now
making the leap to XP! So I'm guessing that Vista will be slow to
gain ground. I'm also confident that the Captivate team is well
aware of the Vista issues and will be addressing them as best they
    can.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Cannot install Photoshop CS4 on Windows Vista Business

Ok people, looking for some help with this.  I have a new PC (less than 2 months old).  I cannot get Photoshop CS4 installed at all.  I'm sure there have been a million threads like this before asking the same question.  Although I am a newb to Photoshop I am certainly not when it comes to computers, this is what I do for a living.  I can't even believe I am actually having to ask for help.... :\
Anyway, help appreciated.  I have Windows Vista Business SP1 (32-bit), and its running on a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.5GHz with 4 gig of RAM.  I have plenty of free space on my hard drives.
When the install completes, I get the same error message, installed with errors.  When I click to see the error info it says something about language packs (I can get the exact error if you want, just installed and uninstalled about 10 times but hey).
Things I have tried a few times have been to follow through all the other threads and the Adobe support pages - Uninstalling the product through Programs first, running Windows Install Cleanup, running the Adobe CS4 Clean Script - when I do these things in this order both of the cleanup utilities don't find any installs of Photoshop CS4, so it doesn't appear they are doing anything.  I have disabled everything on the PC, done a selective startup, turned off UAC, firewall, anti-virus - everything suggested.  Still, the same error persists.
I have even run my Registry Mechanic and cleaned up that, and of course checked registry permissions etc.  Please help!

You may want to install Vista SP2. It contains a lot of fixes and has the newer 4.5 installer.
Also if Vista is set for English then CS4 has to be set as US English upon install (I think someone already pointed that out).
Before install go services and set the windows installer to auto and start it. Also good idea to turn off windows defender.
Go to MSconfig and turnoff as many start up items that you don't need running (you will have to reboot).
Ensure nothing Adobe related is running in the back ground before install. (someone already mention this I think)
Anti-virus: I turned mine off during install.
I did not install AIR nor Device Central on my system as I would never use them.
    Tiernobyl wrote:
Ok, so I've tried all the things suggested above but still get the same errors....
    Adobe AIR
    Error:
    Error 2.
Adobe Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack
    Error:
    Error 2.
    LangPack (English) for DeviceCentral
    Error:
    Error 2.
Anyone else have any idea what might be causing my problem?  The other thing I was going to try was contacting Adobe support, but can I do this for the trial version?  When I tried to log a case it kept asking me to select my product, but I don't have one yet....
    Thanks.
