Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

  • Is there a way to use the imac as a viewer for my Nikon Camera?

After I hook up my camera to the Imac, Aperture launches.  Instead, I'd like to just use the Imac to view the photos that are on the SD card inside my camera.  That way, I can easily delete the photos I don't want to waste hard drive space on.  I could do minor cropping from inside the camera before saving the files to Aperture.  And, Photostream wouldn't pick up all those photos I didin't want to save in the first place had I moved them all over to Aperture and just viewed it with the card.  I want the imac to operate as a live monitor so I can view the photos on the SD card inside the camera.  Any thoughts??  Just like you can using a TV that has the right inputs.

If your Nikon camera supports it, you can do what you want with Nikon's software.

  • How to access my RAW files for my Nikon camera

I have purchased a Nikon camera and I would like to be able to access RAW files.  I read somewhere yesterday my Raw file is not coorect.  If I recall it needs to be 6.3 and is at level 6.1.  I am running Win7

After several hours of frustration, I may have it resolved, but I haven't
had time to check everything out.
I am working with Photoshop Elements 9 loading Edit, selecting updates
which was where I ran into my first problem.  I don't recall the exact
message, but something about maybe a firewall conflict.   I took an
alternate route and found RAW file 7.1,  downloaded it and got the message
I needed to update Adobe Manager.  Took two tries, but finally got it
Manager updated.  Next I extracted and attempted to install 7.1.  Got
message didn't apply to my software.  More research, find RAW 6.5 and the
only way to install it was through update in Photoshop Element.  To my
surprise no problem with "firewall" and it listed I needed two upgrades:
both Raw 6.5 and Photoshope Element 9.3.  The update actually started to
work so I guess the New Manager resolved the "firewall" problem.
Upon completion, I got a two errors messages
    Messages I received:
    Photoshop Camera Raw 6.5 Update
There was an error installing this update. Please quit and try again later.
    Error Code: U44M1I210
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.0.3 Update
There was an error installing this update. Please quit and try again later.
    Error Code: U44M1P2003
Error detail page suggested I reboot my compute which I did.   I went back
to update and the only choice listed was Elements 9.3.  After this update,
I only got one message:  same error #:  U44M1P2003.
I have not pursued this error further, but hope to do so.  Any suggestions
    would be appreciated.
BUT, I DID LOAD A RAW FILE!  YEA!

  • Nikon Camera

I'm looking to buy a Nikon Camera that meets the following requirements.
    1.  Under $500.00
    2.  Will take continious action pictures for sport events, etc.
    3.  Has a good zoom lens.
    4.  Must be user friendly for an amateur.
Can you give me a recommendation.
    Thanks,
    Joe {removed per forum guidelines}

    Hi JoeWhite66,
In order to capture continuous action of sports events you will need to go with a DSLR or Compact System Camera (CSC). In Nikon’s line of cameras, and within your budget, I would suggest looking at the Nikon D3100 or Nikon 1 J1 CSC camera. If anyone else has any ideas for Joe by all means post to this thread. I hope this helps.

  • Reading Nikon camera Raw files

I use Photoshop CS5.  My camera is a Nikon D610.  Is there a plug in that I can add so that I can read the Nikon camera Raw files?

Thank you. I have a Nikon D3200 and hope it works for this Camera too
Not necessarily. The answer is different for every single camera. It also depends on which version of Photoshop you're running.
The D3200 was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 which is compatible with CS6 and later (not CS5)

  • In order to tether a Nikon D7100 into Lightroom is Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 required

I have a Nikon D7100 and I have Lightoom 5.  Will Lightroom recognize the D7100 without needing to have Nikon Camera Control Pro 2?  If the D7100 is not yet recognized by Lightroom will the Nikon software allow for tethering into Lightoom?  when might Adobe add the D7100 to recognized cameras"

    No.
The D7100 is not supported for tethering in Lr.

    Thanks for your reply:
I did find an error log related to the error code and tried all suggestions on the list of recommendations, still no luck
I definitely am running OS X10.5.8 (hopefully will be updating later on this month)
I tried several brand new discs from the same box, still no luck.
My last option is to go out and try a different brand, guess I'll go with Verbatim this time but I think I'll poke around some more before buying 20 more new discs.

  • Third Party Nikon Camera Contol Software and Lightroom 4?

    Hello Everyone
I am currently shooting tethered, from a camera stand, with a Nikon D90.  My images go into a a specific directory.  I then import them into Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer.  I would like to do everything in one step.
Lightroom 4 lacks the camera control features that are essential for my current task.  I have to have Live View and I need to see the image immediately after it is shot.  It is also important to be able to change the camera settings from my computer, primarily F Stop.  Is there a way to link Lightroom 4 with a third party camera control program such as Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 or something similar.  There are several programs that give me adequate camera control.
Thank you for your help and suggestions.

  • What Color Space to Set in Nikon Camera

Nikon cameras alllow the user to set the colorspace into the camera. There are a lot of choices. A few of them have the letters RGB included in the name.
Which color space should an Aperture user select?
(I mostly shoot in  ambient light. And sometimes use flashes in a softbox. Photos are seldom printed.)

    Me too.

It's true that histogram blinkies _may_ not indicate an area of the photo that is unrecoverable. Still, if I'm shooting and I get blinky highlights I'll re-shoot if I can, because you're so close to the edge that it's hit-or-miss.
I use Sony FF bodies almost exclusively.  I'm learned to judge from the blinkies and their relationship to the scene what they mean for blown pixels.  The Sony FF histograms (and they seem to be equal in this regard, even for very different cameras {e.g.: a850 and RX1R}) seem to give at least 2/3 of a stop cushion in the highlights.  In practice, if there are no blinkies at the highlight end, I can increase the exposure at least 1/3 and often 2/3 of a stop without ending up with blown pixels in the converted-from-RAW file.  So I usually aim for at some blinkies -- the exception being where the highlights are broad and significantly lighter than the rest of the scene.
In fine, on my Sony cameras, the blinkies are not actually "close to the edge".  Rather they are on the grass on the other side of the pedestrian walkway that itself is still inside the caution rope.

  • HT4108 Will it be possible to download photos direct from a Cannon or Nikon camera to a iPadHD?

Will it be possible to download photos directly from a Cannon or Nikon camera on to a iPadHD?

You have to use Apple's Camera Connection Kit. It's best to import from the camera's SD card, rather than connect the camera.

  • Nikon Camera Infomation

    Hello.
Is there any way Lightroom 5 can save the information from my Nikon Cameras RAW file.
When I open my RAW files in Lightroom 5 all my camera settings are not saved.
Is there some way around this.
    Regards

In my opinion, it doesn't make sense to take a single photo through Lightroom first (causing you to lose the in-camera settings) and then Nikon. The only method that makes any sense to me is Nikon software first (so you get its benefits of reading the camera settings) and then Lightroom.
But I have reached the point where I do everything in Lightroom, that makes the most sense from my point of view.
