Nikon D90 wont mount to desktop

Hi
I am trying to accesses my Nikon D90  but everytime I connect it iPhoto launches but the disk image never appears on the desktop.  My card reader is broken and I can't get into town for a few weeks to replace it so the only way I have to download things from a memory card is from my camera.  This is something that has been irritating me for a while be has become an issue now becasue of my broken card reader.
I need to be able to see my camera as a HD on my desktop but it just doesn't appear.  The computer can obviously read from the camera as iPhoto imediately launches but it doesn't show the Disk Image.  Can someone help me to fix this problem?

So does this mean I will nolonger be able to see my camera on the desktop as I have with previous models and brands?
It seems silly that you have to go through an image capture software or the like without the option to access the files manually.  How are you to do firmware updates if you can not accesses this in a file form?  I have checked on the Nikon website and to do a firmware update for this camera (which it's due for and I may as well do it) I need to Drag a file to the disk image to install the update.
This is a screen capture from the Nikon instructions.
So it should be possible.  I remember that I used to be able to see the disk image when I first got the camera and would connect it to the computer, I'm pretty sure that this is a subsequent development.

  • CF Card wont mount on Desktop

Im using 10.3.9 on a G5 with 4gb ram and I have been using a lexarmedia CF reader for a year and last week it worked fine but recently it wont mout any old or brand new CF cards that I use with different digital cameras. The same cards with the same reader work fine with other macs(10.4) and powerbooks (10.3.9). The card will not show up on disk utilites as well diskwarrior wont find it also. I have tried verify/repair permissions. I have also tried different USB ports and no luck and with those same USB ports everything from an IPOD to an external USB hard drive will mount.
    Please Help
    Thanks

Hi, Charlie. Have you tried reformatting the card(s) in your camera(s)? Did your reader require the installation of any proprietary software that might have become corrupted on the G5, and if so, have you reinstalled it?

  • Since Leopard - iPhoto no longer recognizes Nikon D90

    Hi,
I have been using iPhoto '08 happily with my Nikon D90 until..., I installed Leopard (Currently - OSX 10.6.2). All of a sudden the camera will not appear in iPhoto when plugged in. I have tried different cables, checked my NEF support updates - all current. Next step for my simple mind is to get iPhoto 09 and hope for the best. Any help in the short term out there???

1 - does it mount to the desktop?
2 - have you tried Image capture?
3 - have you looked at the USB bus with system profiles while the camera is connected?
4 - have you tried a USB card reader?
5 - have you deleted the iPhoto preference file?
6 - have you reformatted the camera memory card?
7 - Is there any more information you have beyond "it does not work"?
8 - I would not count on iPhoto '09 fixing this

  • How do I install camera raw 4.6 (for Nikon D90) in Elements 6 for a Mac?

I need to install camera raw 4.6 (for Nikon D90) plug-in on Elements 6 for at Mac?  I'ved downloaded the plug-in but it does not seem to work.  I've got Elements 10 on my desktop Mac but I am using Elements 6 on an older iBook G4.  Any help will be appreciated.  thanks.

For PSE 6, get the .plugin out of the download, then go to your hard drive>library>Application Support>Adobe>plug-ins>file formats and remove the old plug-in, then put just the new .plugin file in there instead. Older versions of PSE can't update ACR from the help menu the way PSE 10 can.

  • Imoprting RAW images from my Nikon D90 into iphotos

I'm sorry I know this must be pretty basic but I am having problems importing my RAW images into iphotos. I have a Nikon D90 and I shoot in both jpeg and RAW - when I import the images from the camera into iphoto it imports two images but they are both jpegs and of course when I upload the either of them into Photoshop - Photoshop does not open up with the RAW convertor because the image has come across as a jpeg.
    1) Have I lost my RAW images - if not how do I get them back, and
    2) What should I be doing in the future to avoid this?
Sorry to trouble you with such basic info - but you know what it is like - it can be so frustrating until you get it right,
    Thanks
    Ray

when I import the images from the camera into iphoto it imports two images but they are both jpegs
    They're not.
    Processing Raw in iPhoto
When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically creates a jepg preview of the file. Why? Because you cannot do anything with a Raw: you cannot print it, use it a slideshow and so on. However, with this preview you can work with the photo immediately. (Which kind of makes shooting Raw and Jpeg perhaps a little pointless?)
You can, however, also process the Raw in iPhoto simply by editing it. The Raw processing engine in iPhoto the same one used in Aperture, but with less fine control. (Think of the differences between Word and TextEdit, iMovie and Final Cut). The output from the processing then replaces the preview. You can choose to save your output as either jpeg or tiff in the iPhoto Preferences.
When you are processing Raw in iPhoto you will see the Raw badge on the bottom of the iPhoto Window
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Note: After you have processed a Raw, subsequent edits to the photo are carried out on the processed jpeg (or tiff) not the Raw. If you want to go back to the original then you need to use the Photos -> Reprocess Raw command.
Processing Raw in a 3rd Party Application
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots. Add that to your jpeg from the Raw and Jpeg shooting and now you'll have three versions of the shot...

  • Vertical format photos from a nikon D90 distort in iphoto 11

Vertical format photos when downloaded from a Nikon D90 SD card become distorted when Iphoto editor is opened.  It seems the software is attemting to view them in landscpe format.  I have gone through all the programs to fix iphoto with the option command keys when iphoto is launched but the problem persists.  It seems to have started from an update in June 2012.  I can rescue the photos by taking them out of iphoto onto the desktop and then importing them back into iphoto, and deleting the original photo.   When I do this the photo no longer distort.  Does anybody have any suggestions?

I've not seen this. But try doing an edit on one and then reverting to original

  • MacBook Pro 17"... JUST REPAIRED VIA APPLE STORE ...CD/DVD Drive wont mount disks

Macbook Pro (17") wouldn't boot to desktop/homescreen, so I went to Apple.
They sent me to Micro Center for data recovery.  Success.
After that, back to Apple then they sent me to Best Buy for new Hard Drive.  Success.
Back to Apple.  Everything working ok except that my Adobe Creative Suite programs no longer work.
So I try to reinstall via data CD, as I did when I originally installed the programs, but now my CD/DVD drive wont mount ANY disks!
It accepts them, makes some odd noises, then spits back out.  Please help!

I'm confused, why did Apple 'send' you to 2 non Apple places for repairs? Did you buy the product from Best Buy? It doesn't seem like Apple made any repairs, so you'll have to get either Micro Center or Best Buy to repair the issue for you.
How long ago were these repairs?

  • Nikon D90 in CS3 - Project Setting?

I'm waiting on delivery of some HD footage shot with a Nikon D90.
I've never created an HD project in CS3; there do not appaear to be any presets for HD other than HDV. Can anyone advise on how I would go about setting up an HD project?
    Thanks!

If you have the last updates for CS3 (which would be v3.2.0), you'll have both P2 MXF presets, and XDCAM HD/EX presets. Check what version you're running, and if you're only on 3.0 or similar, run the Updater (Help > Updates).
You can create a custom project setting by selecting the General tab in the New Project dialog. There, under Editing Mode, you'll find an option called "Desktop" which lets you customize all parameters, including frame size, frame rate, PAR, field order and so on. Build one that matches your footage, and save it as a preset so you can go back to it later. There are quite a few threads here on the forums about editing D90 footage; a lot of them are about editing using CS4, but some are about CS3.

  • Drives are not mounting to desktop on macbook pro.

External USB drives, SD cards and even DVD media is not mounting to desktop when connected.
This is a new problem for me and have not had this issue previously. I have successfully connected the same devices in the past.
They all show up in the disc utility as connected. I am unable to mount them from disc utility (this button is disabled) and they are not showing up in Finder either.
    Please help!

    Hi Paul,
Sorry for the late answer. I live in Europe, so that's why I was asleep ;-)
Basically the command tells your computer to unhide everything on your Desktop, so if you don't have a Desktop, something is definitely wrong.
My guess is that there's something wrong with your account on that computer. You can check that by creating a new account in System Preferences (click on Accounts, click the lock in the bottom-left corner and then click the "+" button just above).
Then try mounting "some" media and see if it appears on the new user's Desktop. If not, I would highly recommend to reinstall Mac OS X.

    Jasper.

  • Can I use my Nikon D90 AVI files in Premiere Pro CC on my iMac?

Hi and thanks in advance to anyone who can lend me a hand. I am new to both Premiere Pro CC and Macs. I have used my Nikon D90 AVI files before with Premiere Elements on my PC with no problem, but the same films aren't working on my new setup with Premiere Pro CC and an iMac.
I can see and preview the films in the Source window but when I try to drag them onto the sequence window I get a little hand with a "no" sign.
I am using a version 7.1.0 (141) of PP CC and am on OS X 10.9
Do I need to transcode the files? If so, to what? And what is the best way to do that?
Many many thanks for any help!

Just remember, you will not always get the answer you want right away. Some people will point you to tutorials, some, like me, will attempt to help and still point you to tutorials, and some will just answer the question as best they can.
Some might insult you, and some merely insult your intelligence. Don't be offended. Do, however, search the forums as best you can in an attempt to find the answer before you post.
I realize that people don't always have the right words to describe the problem, and therefore have trouble searching. If searching fails you, just ask. It generally works out in the long run. And as you have discovered, sometimes a combination of posts may do the trick.

  • Can't open NEF files from Nikon D90 in CS4.

I had to uninstall and reinstall PS CS4, now I am unable to open my NEF files. I've used CS4 for years and always been able to open NEF files. Any idea what is going on? Any suggestion? I'm computer illiterate so please keep any answers as simple as possible. Thanks

So your Camera Raw is not up-to-date.
The Nikon D90 was first supported in Camera Raw 5.1
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
and CS4 is compatible with Camera Raw up to version 5.7

If Help > Updates in CS4 still says you're up-to-date then try installing Camera Raw 5.7 manually

  • I have a new Mac.  I installed my Bridge CS4 that I ran on my old mac.  When I import RAW photos from my Nikon d90 they come in with an .NEF extension.  I need to install a converter but cannot find one.

I have a new mac.  I installed my Bridge CS4 and Photoshop CS4 that I ran on my old mac.  When I import RAW pics from my Nikon D90 they come in with the extension of .NEF.  Apparently this is not a readable form for Bridge as the picture does not appear.  I believe I need a converter to convert .NEF to .dng but I can't find one.  Any ideas?

You do not need to convert to DNG.
The NEFs from your camera model have been supported since ACR 4.6 and 5.1.
What you need to do is update your ACR plug-in to version 5.7, the latest and last version for CS4.  Right now, you are probably on ACR 5.0, the version supplied with the original release of Photoshop CS4.
Be aware that the Adobe updater is extremely unreliable when it comes to CS5, so that you must do the update manually.  There are detailed instructions on the ACR 5.7 plug-in download page.  You MUST follow those instructions to the letter.

  • MY HARD DRIVES WONT MOUNT, HELP

I recently bought the Lacie 250 gig fire 400 (I also have a 160 gig porche hard drive) and it worked for awhile. But a few weeks ago when I turned my computer on the hard drive would not mount. I took my computer to the mac store and the tech tested my fire wire and they were just fine. Then he hooked up a hard drive from the store and they mounted just fine. Now heres the weird part. When I brought my computer home both my hard drives mounted just fine. But here we are a few weeks later and now they will not mount again. I have tried everything possible to mount these drives from changing firewire cords to unplugging everything and still nothing. Now the tech said that he thinks that the computer cant tell the difference between the two drives and thats why they wont mount. I need help bad!!!!!!!!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If you have the drive backed up, you could
try this. With it plugged in and on go into
disc utility. Check to see if the parent
drive is visible. The drive that is not
mounting is considered a volume mount point.
This is the named volume that you gave it.
The parent drive will have the name the
    factory gave it.
    Select the parent disc
and try repairing or verifying the disc
to see if it helps. As a last resort you
can erase the disc using no security and
this will usually get the volume to mount.
I would install a OS on it so that it is
    more likely to mount.
It will appear that your volume is empty
when actually you data is there but the
    directories have been removed.You could
get your data back with a file
    recovery program.
    I would try the OSX
forum, they will know a few tricks you
might try. Only do the erase as a last
    resort.
