NLS in BI
Hi,
We are currently looking to put in a bit of a ILCM to our BI system. We are on BW 7.0 and currently have no archiving in place. The main issue we would have when archiving is still being able to report on the data that is archived, and for this I believe NLS is the way to go. Now I am aware that with our current setup we would require a third party add on to help with this, but I was reading somewhere saying that this is no longer necessary with BW 7.3.
So my question is, is this true? Or if not and we still require third party what are the recommendations for providers.
All new to this, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Vamsi,
1) Yes, you need to compressed the data also before archiving it thru NLS. Otherwise, it will not be available on your data options for the list of records to be archived.
2) Enabling this option lets the user to query the archived data aside from rsrt. Btw, you need to test also if NLS application is unavailable, and check if your online data is still accessible, as it reads the archived data even if you only queried for online data based on our experience.

Multiple NLS in one web server
Hello all ,
currently i have the following:
DB1 ,ar8mswin1256 characterset , accessed from web application with nls = ar8mswin1256 .
DB2 , WE8ISO8859P1 characterset , accessed from web application with nls = WE8ISO8859P1.
i want to consolidate the two database into one utf8 , and put the two web applications into one web server (Microsoft IIS ).
Question1:
Now , for the two applications , what characterset should i use ( in the client side)? utf8,ar8mswin1256, WE8ISO8859P1.
Question2:
In Microsoft IIS web server how can i set a different Charaterset for each web applications? the entry for the NLS is in the registry and shared by whols applications in the server and there is no option in the command "ALTER SESSION" to set the characterset.

nullIf you use Oracle9i (at least) database and client, then both the database and the NLS_LANG should be AL32UTF8.
Microsoft IIS by itself does not read NLS_LANG. It has to use some Oracle interface to get to the database. Anyway, the recommendation is to use whatever Microsoft IIS and your programming environment have available to work in Unicode UTF-8. You do not need two separate NLS_LANG values.

Oracle ODBC - Internal Error - unable to initialize NLS during driver load
I'm having some trouble with my ODBC connections which I hope someone can please help me with!
About 6 weeks ago all was working as normal.
As far as I know there have been no updates to the ORacle DB, the Windows XP operating system or the ODBC Drivers.
Today when I opened access and visual case 2 to connect to Oracle I was at first greeted with a:
unable to connect SQLState=IM004 SQL_HANDLE_ENV
error. ODBC also kept crashing.
I restarted the computer and was confronted with a different error:
odbc SQLSTate 08004 ORA 12154 TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified
I was able to fix this error by setting the environment variable TNS_ADMIN in windows xp environment variables. I'm extremely confused about how this happened though as it was working and I don't think anything has changed.
I was then able to connect to the database via Microsoft Access but when I opened Visual Case 2 and tried to make an update, I was confronted with the following error:
Oracle ODBC Driver - internal error - unable to initialize NLS during driver load
I looked in the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\KEY_OraClient10g_home1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\KEY_OraClient10g_home2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\KEY_OraDb10g_home1
and NLS_LANG was set to "AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252" in all 3 places.
(Though KEY_OraClient10g_home2 only had 4 entries as opposed to KEY_OraClient10g_home1's 13 entries)...
Since I made those changes I can no longer connect through Access.
I just receive a ODBC - connection to 'xxx' failed
Advice greatly appreciated!!!!

I switched the ODBC connection to use instant client and now it's all working again.
The biggest mystery is what changed to make it suddenly stop working the old way... -
NLS error in building a new repository
Hi every body
I reported my problem in building a repository in OWB 10g, but no one replied to me! I tried more ane half of my problem was solved. I instaled the oracle data base 10g release 2 and now I can connect with Enterprise Manager to my data base. But I still have problem in building a new repository. When I complete the wizard of creating a new repository, the following error is shown:
cannot access NLS data file or invalid environment specified.
I checked my ORACLE_HOME. At first, this variable was empety, then i changed it to the oracle home and also to DWB_HOME, but the error was not removed.
any direction is welcome,

This region I am creating for the page whose navigation is as shown below:
1) Login as PO Super User
2) Go to Requisition Work Bench -> Requisitions -> Summary -> Lines Tab.
In this page in the search region I need to add one Criteria Item named Requisition Description
Now in our development instance,creating a Criteria Itme for this region through personalization is not enabled. But the same thing is enabled in the Test Environment. However if I go and just click on Create Item -> Criteria row and provide the id name and click on Apply the page is erroring out. Would anyone please try replication the same in their available instance and let me know whether they are facing similar issues. -
Some error while applying nls patch,need some help
i run my ebs R12.1.1 on linux X64 in vmware.
i have already installed it.i can login it too.

I tryed to restart adpatch.sh and continue the patch --- it helps me one time in the past 3days---i got this:

the messages above are copy from end of adpatch.log which is 10M size---there are over 17000 files in the document of "log" now.
i search the BAIDU,it seems that i can fix it by adadmin.sh?is that ture?i don't feel it right....

can some guaide me get it through these error?some tips on metal-link will be fine too,i get an id from my friend.

I restart the vm-machine and then disable maintain model,the start the DB and APP.
I can choose chinese to login and i did it.
maybe the i need "Translation Synchronization Patches " .The left part is english and the right part is chinese.
i believe that there must had some forms bad,it just not read now.

i still believe that my ebs is r12.1.1 and the patch 4440000.DRV make some part of my ebs back to 12.0.0.
should i apply the new patch--6678700.drv to make it update to 12.1.1?

여기서는 US7ASCII에서 KO16KSC5601로 옮기는 경우를 알아보자.
우선 바꾸고자 하는 CHRACTER SET이 지원되는 지를 다음 명령으로
확인한다.
select convert('a','KO16KSC5601','US7ASCII') from dual;
만약 이 Select 문에서 ORA-01482 에러가 발생하면 지정한 CHARACTER
SET이 지원되지 않는 경우이며 에러가 발생하지 않으면 CHARACTER
SET을 변경할 수 있다.
작업을 하기 전에는 만약을 위해서 DB 전체를 백업 받아두도록 한다.
CHARACTER SET 을 잘못 변경하면 DB 를 OPEN 할 수가 없기 때문이다.
1. 다음의 Update문을 실행하여 CHARACTER SET을 변경한다.
UPDATE sys.props$
SET value$ = 'KO16KSC5601'
WHERE name = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
Update 시에 NLS_CHARACTERSET을 지원되지 않는 값으로 잘못 설정하거나
실수로 콘트롤 문자 같은 것이 들어가게 되면 DB가 Shutdown 된 다음에는
Startup 이 안되므로 Update 후에 다음 명령으로 확인을 한 다음에
Commit을 하도록 한다.
select name, value$
from sys.props$
where value$ = 'KO16KSC5601';
Select가 제대로 출력되면 Commit 하고 Shutdown 했다가 Startup 하게
되면 새로운 CHARACTER SET 값을 갖게 된다. SELECT가 안 되면 ROLLBACK
하고 UPDATE부터 다시 하도록 한다.
2. 환경 변수 NLS_LANG 을 변경한다.
.profile 에서
NLS_LANG=American_America.KO16KSC5601; export NLS_LANG
또는 .cshrc 에서.
setenv NLS_LANG American_America.KO16KSC5601
*** win95 및 winnt의 client에서는 registry editor에서 NLS_LANG 값을
맞추어준다.
주의 !!!
: 위의 작업을 하기 전에 발생할 가능성이 있는 문제점
1) update 중 KO16KSC5601 이나 US7ASCII 등에서 철자를 잘못 입력하시면,
db 재기동 후에, 다음과 같은 에러가 발생합니다.

: double byte encoding schema 이므로, 한글의 경우 2 bytes 를 크기 1로
계산하는 함수들이 있습니다.
그리고, table , column name에 한글을 double quote 없이 사용할 수 있습니다.

Update 시에 NLS_CHARACTERSET을 지원되지 않는 값으로 잘못 설정하거나
실수로 콘트롤 문자 같은 것이 들어가게 되면 DB가 Shutdown 된 다음에는
Startup 이 안되므로 Update 후에 다음 명령으로 확인을 한 다음에
Commit을 하도록 한다.
select name, value$
from sys.props$
where value$ = 'KO16KSC5601';
Select가 제대로 출력되면 Commit 하고 Shutdown 했다가 Startup 하게
되면 새로운 CHARACTER SET 값을 갖게 된다. SELECT가 안 되면 ROLLBACK
하고 UPDATE부터 다시 하도록 한다.
2. 환경 변수 NLS_LANG 을 변경한다.
.profile 에서
NLS_LANG=American_America.KO16KSC5601; export NLS_LANG
또는 .cshrc 에서.
setenv NLS_LANG American_America.KO16KSC5601
*** win95 및 winnt의 client에서는 registry editor에서 NLS_LANG 값을
맞추어준다.

: 위의 작업을 하기 전에 발생할 가능성이 있는 문제점
1) update 중 KO16KSC5601 이나 US7ASCII 등에서 철자를 잘못 입력하시면,
db 재기동 후에, 다음과 같은 에러가 발생합니다.

그리고, table , column name에 한글을 double quote 없이 사용할 수 있습니다.

US7ASCII일 때에는 vsize, lengthb function의 결과가 length 함수와 모두

Changing locale generates ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter error
By mistake I changed the default locale with following code:
Locale.setDefault(new Locale(localeCode))
and I get:

11.5.10.2 Fresh install - NLS problem

I'm doing a multinode fresh install of 11.5.10.2 on HP-UX. Came across the following from rapidwiz (it only happens with Simplified Chinese):

Thanks.are you sure that it only happens with Simplified Chinese, if yes you can install the application with out Simplified Chinese and after the installation complete successfuly you can add the Simplified Chinese languge as post installation step.
i check for the error you faced but with no luck my gess the your nls cd is corrupted can you downlaod another one from edilivery and try

I have installed XE-Universal 10.2 on a XP-Pro.
I have installed Apex 3.2.1 successfully in the same database.
in the registry, the value in oracle->key-xe->nls_lang as well as in all other ORACLE is AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1.
The query
select parameter,value from nls_database_parameters
where parameter in ('NLS_CHARACTERSET','NLS_LANGUAGE','NLS_TERRITORY');
shows American_America.AL32UTFS
In the Explorer-Pages of APEX, it shows "Language: de-ch"
The windows-regional-settings are German-Switzerland. But even when I change the settings to American-America the APEX still shows
(bottom left corner) "Language: de-ch".
Where is apex getting this info from and how to change?
When I try to import the OEHR-Sample-Application, it first shows "The export file has been imported successfully"
After some time with the screen showing "Installing application", it aborts with the message
ORA-20001: GET_BLOCK Error. ORA-20001: Execution of the statement was unsuccessful.

I had the same problem first with the installation of apex 3.2. It turned out that the problem is, that in Switzerland the Numeric
Group Separator is "'" which seems not to work, therefore i changed nls to GERMAN_GERMANY, where the group separator is ','. This worked fine.
Any help is very much appreciated.

This has been logged with development as the following bug.
BUG 9081503 - ORA-20001 & ORA-01756 : WHEN TRYING TO IMPORT APPLICATION WITH DE-CH BROWSER
Currently there is no fix as it is being worked on. However, the workaround of setting the browser to something else other than DE-CH will be just fine to get the application imported.

I wrote Java application, which uses JDBC Thin 8.1.5 and runs on
Linux. When I inserts Russian text into table, JDBC inserts some
undefined (big black boxes in SQLPLUS output) characters. Output
from same table in my Java application seems to "???".
Oracle database (8.1.5 on RedHat 6.0) created in CL8KOI8R
charset.
All environment variables are valid:
NLS_LANG=RUSSIAN_CIS.CL8KOI8R
LC_ALL=ru_RU
CLASSPATH includes path to nls_charset11.zip
Russian works fine in SQLPLUS and Perl DBD::Oracle applications
on the same machine.
What I can do?
nullHave you tried more recent JDBC versions? Several NLS issues were fixed in post 8.1.5 JDBC releases (including, I believe, a problem with Hebrew). The JDBC folks would be able to give you more specific information about where which fixes appeared.
It should be worth a try, though, to check out a newer JDBC version, particularly if you are using the thin driver. -
Oracle 8.1.7.4 + JDBC Driver 10.2.0.3.0=invalid or unknown NLS parameter...

Maybe in your case JDBC driver 10.2.0.3.0 sets one of them with value that is not supported in Oracle Database 8.1.7.4. Character set is the first candidate for this. JDBC drivers use only Unicode character sets - there are a few new of them in Oracle Database 10g. 8 and 9 versions of JDBC drivers use UTF8 which is Unicode version 3.0 but in 10g is added Al32UTF8 which is Unicode version 4.0.

I am running SQL*Loader 8.1 on an NT4-SP5 environment and getting a 282 - unable to locate character set.... The OTN reference on NLS is not clear on what to run to get the SQL*Loader program to run a simple ASCII text file into a LOAD/APPEND DDL statement. Any suggestions?

Since upgrading Windows server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 Standard edition, we get this repetitious critical error in the event log:

Op Code NLS initialization
The NLS operation failed because the registry key Control Panel\International\User Profile cannot be opened. Error code is 2. Error message: The system cannot find the file specified.
We originally found that the regional date settings after changing them in regional settings (DD/MM/YYYY) and they did not inherit properly from the upgrade but they are ok now.
I've looked at HKCU\.Default\Control Panel\International and nothing looks obviously wrong. Country codes, time & date formats are correct.
How do we ascertain the cause of this error and the specific registry key that might be problematic?Hi,

I migrated from OAS 4.0.8.1 to ...2.
When I setup the net80 configuration using Easynet config I get the following error from the testing of the connection:
ORA-12705: Invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified.
It just worked fine with the earlier version of OAS.
Anyone...pls...Problem solved.
I deleted OAS 4.0.8.2.0 and installed Web-to-go. Then I installed OAS 4.0.8.2.0. -

- In your AM override the prepareSession(Session session) method with custom code to set up your NLS
- Create a class that implements the PagePhaseListener
