NM-16ESW - adding a switch into a 3725 router slot - can i route traffic out of the switch ?
Hi all,
I have added the above module (16 switch port) into my router.

q1) Not being able to set IP to the interface as shown above, I would believe it is really a switch port. Is there anyway I can see what kind of port a interface is or can be ? (switch port, routed port etc ?) or whether is it a L2 or L3 switch ?
q2) in that case, since the switch is already inside the router, how do i route L3 traffic out of the switch ?
Assuming fe0/1 on the router is the interface connected to external network.
and 2 workstations attached to the switch ports fe1/1 and and fe1/2, how can i set their gateway to point to fe0/1's IP ? Can fe0/1 to be connected to fe1/0 internally ?
Regards,
Noob
Hi KOE SIZE JIE,
q1) I tried the no switchport command on the 16switch port module and it works. I can set an IP on the switch port. But according to Liam, it is a L2 switch, how come we can assign no switchport command ?
As Bilal pointed out, I was mistaken you can issue the "no switchport" for a L3 routed port on that specific module.
q2) it is said that on a L2 switch only 1 SVI can be connected (for management purpose only) and L2 switch is not able to do routing. With the L2 switch module inserted into the router, will the SVI be able to do routing then ?
I believe this goes back to what Bilal was saying about limited functionality on the EtherSwitch. I will have to play with one in GNS3 to give you a solid answer.
But I think what it is trying to say is... You cannot use SVI's for inter-vlan routing. You can only have a single SVI for management purposes.
q3)Liam, you mention earlier fa0/0 is pointing to some network. is fa0/0 in the same router as the 16 switchport module ?
ip route 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.254 -- this command seems to be saying to access the 10.10.10.0 network, please go to the next hop IP 192.168.1.254 (but again, you are setting this next hop IP on the current router interface itself) - did i get anything wrong ?
I have read back my post and this reads wrong.
When i showed you the code snippet, 192.168.1.254 would be the interface on the next hop router. Not the router you are issuing the ip route command on. You would also need an IP address on the router interface directly connected to the next hop router. I.E 192.168.1.253
You will not then receive that error. Sorry about that, my sloppy config without a diagram!
HTHs,
Liam

Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8 but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio. I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help. Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not. I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced. However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip. While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old. I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU. I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track. Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter. Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force. To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities. To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All." Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform" then "Velocity Limiter." In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps. I envy you your Mason & Hamlin. If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com. -
It would be great if anyone could answer this, I don't feel like having to go through all my songs again and redo them.

Hi, I recently updated my ipod touch 3rd gen to ios5 (as prompted by itunes - assumed a standard software update). Immediately afterwards, my ipod went into recovery mode, and initially itunes recognised this and tried to restore it unsuccessfully. Not any more! Now it is either off, or displays the 'connect to itunes' logo when I connect it to the computer via USB lead.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes but this hasn't helped it recognise the ipod.
I don't think I've managed to go 3 months without having to do something like reinstall the drivers etc on this ipod, don't know why i expected this update to be any different!
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!Try disabling all security software and firewalls, then try again.
Or try from a different computer.
This error is a pain in the butt and a new issue, too. I'm sorry. -

What can I do to delete them and completely empty the Trash.

Cisco 3725 Router for Internet Connectivity
Hi,
We have en existing Internet connection using our Cisco 3725 router (ISP A). The router does the NAT and here's the existing default route:
S* 0.0.0.0/0 [1/0] via 1.2.3.153
This router has a "16 Port 10BaseT/100BaseTX EtherSwitch".
Now we have a new Internet connection (ISP B). What I did was to configure two ports on the Etherswitch and added route maps:
interface FastEthernet1/0
description "ISP B to provider"
no switchport
ip address 4.5.6.66 255.255.255.252
interface FastEthernet1/1
description "ISP B to my network"
no switchport
ip address 4.5.7.225 255.255.255.248
ip policy route-map ISPBInternetTraffic
access-list 101 permit ip 4.5.7.224 0.0.0.7 any
route-map ISPBInternetTraffic permit 101
match ip address 101
set interface FastEthernet1/0
set ip default next-hop 4.5.6.65
What I want to happen is that when the router sees the traffic coming from the public IPs of ISP B (4.5.7.224 /29) it will direct that to go out ISP B on F1/0.
1. Is my configuration correct?
2. Any suggestions, recommendations?
3. Can I do load balancing or load sharing between the two ISPs?
Best,
TonyHi Tony,

My Ipod touch will only work when plugged into an Itouch radio. When I take it out of the charger, it goes blank. The battery shows fully charged. It appears that the battery is no longer charging. What should I do?
Try a reset: Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost. If that fails, the battery may have gone kaput.

SFv120 - tip /dev/ttya into it produces output, but can't type
Hi,
This sounds elementary but I can't figure it out and the brain isn't functioning well at 1:20am.
I've got a v120 that did not have a console on it, so I connected a cable from a v880's serial to the serial A/LOM port on the v120.
I'm getting text displayed when I tip to it (tip -9600 /dev/ttya) but I cannot type.
Connecting the serial cable to serial B produces no output.
Thoughts?
Thanks.Figured it out, it was a bad LOM card in the v120.
After I reset, I could use #. to get out of the console back into the LOM command line. -
I changed my Apple ID, now I can't login to iCloud because it still has my old Apple ID and the password no longer works to log me in. How can I get back into iCloud so that I can switch off Find my iPhone so I can make these changes? Thank you. (iPhone 4s)
Well, you're gonna have to recover the password for that Apple ID:

Adding node back into cluster after removal...
Hi,
I removed a cluster node using "scconf -r -h <node>" (carried out all the other usual removal steps before getting this command to work).
Because this is a pair+1 cluster and the node i was trying to remove was physically attached to the quroum device (scsi), I had to create a dummy node before the removal command above would work.
I reinstalled solaris, SC3.1u4 framwork, patches etc. and then tried to run scsinstall again on the node (reintroduced the node to the cluster again first using scconf -a -T node=<node>).
However! during the scsinstall i got the following problem:
Updating file ("ntp.conf.cluster") on node n20-2-sup ... done
Updating file ("hosts") on node n20-2-sup ... done
Updating file ("ntp.conf.cluster") on node n20-3-sup ... done
Updating file ("hosts") on node n20-3-sup ... done
scrconf: RPC: Unknown host
scinstall: Failed communications with "bogusnode"
scinstall: scinstall did NOT complete successfully!
Press Enter to continue:
Was not sure what to do at this point, but since the other clusternodes could now see my 'new' node again, i removed the dummy node, rebooted the new node and said a little prayer...
Now, my node will not boot as part of the cluster:

Any ideas how i can recover this situation without having to reinstall the node again?
(have a flash with OS, sc3.1u4 framework etc... so not the end of the world but...)
Thanks a mil if you can help here!
- headwreckedHi - got sorted with this problem...
basically just removed (scinstall -r) the sc3.1u4 software from the node which was not booting, and then re-installed the software (this time the dummy node had been removed so it did not try to contact this node and the scinstall completed without any errors)
I think the only problem with the procedure i used to remove and readd the node was that i forgot to remove the dummy node before re-adding the actaul cluster node again...
If anyone can confirm this to be the case then great - if not... well its working now so this thread can be closed.

Adding a server into a failover cluster
Hi all, i have the following question:
i have a Failover Cluster with 3 servers and now i have to add another server. The cluster is in a pruction environment and the service cant be cut off during working hours. Adding this new server will cut off this service?. And which are the steps i should follow to complete this task?.
Thanks in advance
DjThanks for the reply. I have installed the latest VMWare tools and it hasn't fixed my issue. It's just weird. I've set this up multiple times using Sun Fire Servers or IBM Servers (non virtualized) and it's worked flawlessly. But using ESXi each one has had the same issue. Four instances each with differing hardware. I will try to look at netstat and see what I find. I'm pretty sure if the switch port was shutting down due to errors that just rebooting the server wouldn't clear it. I think you have to manually reset the switch port after something like that occurs. Anyways I will check the switch logs and see if I see something there also.
In my test environment I use VMWare Server 2.0 and I've never had this issue using that platform. I'm currently doing an install where they are using ESX servers and it's ran perfectly so far, albeit with a small load compared to what it will be. Almost wondering if it could be something with ESXi. I didn't think there was much of a difference at the base level between ESXi and ESX. I will check out the link you sent and proceed with Oracle tech support. They want me to run ut_gather, etc. on the server right after it fails. Problem is they are all running live production in a hospital environment so it's difficult to schedule a time when I can enable the second server and wait for it to fail. Again, thank you very much for your input and please let me know if you think of something else to check. -
Using Voice Over in the ios5 music app, when tapped into an album there is no way to back out of it except by switching off voice over! Help. This is preventing me upgrading the iPad2 to iOS5 for a blind man I work with. Am I missing something or is it a bug?
here is a link to macosxhints.com that tells you how to output all of your feed URLs to a terminal window. from there you can cut and paste them into your new feed reader of choice...

and if you are in the marked for a new reader may i suggest David Watanabe's excellent NewsFire. he had just recently made it totally free as a gift to the macintosh community.
best of luck.
