No Audio on Saved File

First and Formost, I know nothing of computer jargon.  My operating system is Windows Vista and I'm using Premiere Elements 4.0.  I'm making a fan video with lots of video clips choreographed around a song.  I have to save the file to my computer before I can upload it to the website.  The saved computer file doesn't have any sound attached.  The song plays fine with the video in  PrE (is that the right abrev.).  I made a similar video about a month ago and did NOT have this problem.  The both songs are from itunes.  All the video capures are from the same program.  The only difference In the two videos is that my new one has more video clips.  I've saved it in different formants with the same result.  Any help as how I might get my video to work right will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
First, when one starts a New Project in PrE (yes, that abb. works fine), they are forced to choose a Preset. This will be something like NTSC Standard (4:3) DV, or similar. The Project's Preset should match the footage in all respects, like Frame Size, etc.
What Project Preset did you choose?
What are the specs. of the Video Clips, that you Imported? If you are not sure, G-Spot will give you all of the info.
One comment on your music Soundtrack - MP3's can be problematic, but this usually comes during Import. You did not mention any problem, so I will assume that these are not giving you any problems, especially as they play fine in PrE.
Now, we're off to your editing of the material. Things play fine in PrE, so that pretty much eliminates most of the Audio settings there, as being the cause. Maybe not all, but most. We'll get back to those that could still play a role, when we get deeper into the process of troubleshooting.
When you chose to Export/Share your edited "movie," you again choose Presets, sort of like when you create a New Project. What did you choose? A screen-cap of that Export dialog screen might give us some clues. Some Export settings can be for Video Only, and will not include Audio. This would be where I would immediately look. That is why I asked about the Export Preset and any Advanced settings. This is the most likely place for this behavior to come from.
Sorry for the questions, but the answers might point someone to the exact cause of your issue.
Good luck,
Hunt

That could make them up to 300 MB a piece, since that's the same format used by CDs. I would backup your data, and check to make sure the directory is in good shape as my FAQ explains:

    Here is one possibility:
    Is the external mounted?
Even though clips appear in the Browser these are only file paths to the real clips stored on your external drive.
The Browser items only tell FCE where to find real media clips on your connected system and give access. If the external is not mounted then it's pretty much FCE trying to find something that isn't switched on.

  • Word 2007: Error when saving file that contains equations

Using Microsoft Word 2007, version 12.0.6425.1000 with Service Pack 2
I am a High School Math teacher, and when working on a document that contains a number of math equations. When I try to save the document, Word refuses to save. It displays the following error: "A file error has occurred. <filename>. OK",
and I am unable to save the file.
Reading the forum, I have found this to be a very common issue going back to 2009, but I have not seen a definitive solution or patch.
    I have found a workaround:
    Creat a new document
Copy and paste from the corrupted doc each page, saving the new document after each page
Until I hit the error, then I know the page that has the issue, and can usually narrow it down to a specific math equation. Nothing fancy just some basic math.
Manually rewrite the equation in the new document and it will successfully save.
But the issue has been occurring more and more frequently now and it is becoming very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There has been a long time known issue with the equation editor.  it causes document corruption by "losing" XML tags.
Apparently fixes for some causes of these problems have been rolled out in Windows updates. But the problem still exists.  You've got it easy. A lot of people running into this problem are students working on documents, like a thesis, that is on a short
    deadline ...
One identified cause of these problems is editing equations
after you created them.  DON'T DO THAT!
If you have to change an existing equation, create a new correct one and delete the old one.
Simpler fix. Don't use Word (or Office) for creating equations.  Find some other product, like a pencil.
Over in the "Answers" forum there are a couple volunteers, Tony Jollans and Jeeped
, who have been manually fixing this type of error if you post a new question or add a reply to one of the ongoing discussions on this issue.
    Sorry.
If you want to invest the time to figure out what your error looks like you may be able to come up with a fix other than copy /paste method.
Can't open Word File because of end tag/start tag mismatch error... XML Tag
    - XML Error – Fix It tool - “The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag”
This error is caused when Word either “forgets” to write an XML tag, or writes them in the wrong order.
Tony Jolans was the first person that I heard of with home made tool to fix the problem. Now MS has released a Fix It for one specific variation of the problem.
If the tools don’t fix your problem, the file will have to be fixed manually, repairing the tag order.
The Fix It article notes that the document is still in a fragile state. You have to do some addition fixing to avoid repeats of the problem.

This fix it will work for one specific tag error where there are equations and graphics in the same paragraph AND Office 2010 SP1 has not been applied.
    Preventative suggestions
    <snip Jeeped>
I don't think that anyone can completely stop editing equations, but pre-planning them should avoid unnecessary edits.
While I have no concrete, reproducible evidence that editing equations is a cause, I have made these empirical observations:
I cannot state precisely what many of the DOCX XML tags do, but basic XML syntax rules would suggest that code like:                   <m:oMath><m:e><m:ctrlPr/></m:e></m:oMath>
... does nothing at all since it closes everything it opens and offers no content. It looks to me that this is a result of deleting one or more characters from an equation.
While Word 2010 reports these as a problem at:                  Line: 2  Column: 0 ... Word 2007 will still report the actual position, e.g.:
Line: 2  Column: 2726981 I keep a copy of Word 2007 side-by-side Word 2010 for no other purpose. It's the only Office 2007 program on my computer. This seems like it is actually a step backwards from a resolution since Word 2010 no longer seems
to be able to parse its own error.
Whether the syntax is truly useless and non-effective for any intent or purpose is actually beside the point. The syntax passes conformity tests and the DOCX
should launch. Why an 85 page document is 'broken' due to a few empty XML formatting tags while retaining legal syntax structure is beyond me.
I try to pass along the area that the problem was in and several times people have remarked that the area I report was the place they were last making modifications/deletions to equations (not additions) when the no-load corruption
    occurred.
When no indication from the OP is offered on what was worked on last, the Line: 2 Column: 0 corruption often comes within a formula at the very end of the unfinished Word/Document.xml file and it may be inferred
that this was the last place being worked upon.
The corrupt DOCX files I've worked on are very commonly at the last stages of development with a large complex document. While there couldn't be a worse time for a corruption to appear, it would seem that small edits to existing content are causing
it and not large scale new content generation.
Not one of these points is a definitive 'smoking gun', but put together they seem to indicate
formula editing and not formula writing as a cause for the Line: 2 Column: 0 corruption. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is most often a duck.
    </snip>
Copy “True Autosave Macros for Office” to this place in reply
    Let me fix it myself
If you are familiar with editing XML, you can try to fix the problem yourself by correcting the sequence of the mismatched oMath tags in the document. See the following example:
    Incorrect tags:
    <mc:AlternateContent>
    <mc:Choice Requires=”wps”>
    <m:oMath>
    </mc:AlternateContent>
    </m:oMath>
    Correct tags:
    <m:oMath>
    <mc:AlternateContent>
    <mc:Choice Requires=”wps”>
    </mc:AlternateContent>
    </m:oMath>
Note: You will have to use an application such as Notepad to edit the XML.
    Manual Technique
<snip>  A DOCX document is actually a .ZIP file that contains many internal components. There is an internal folder called word which will always contain a document.xml file. This file is the basis of the document's layout
    and content.
Assuming that the DOCX archive structure has not been corrupted, it can be opened in an archive utility. I use
WinRAR for this. Once opened in
WinRAR, you can drill down into the
word folder and see the document.xml file. I use
Notepad++ as a text editing tool and have the .xml file extension associated with this program so i can simply double-click
document.xml in WinRAR to open an editing session.
Notepad++ has cursor positioning in the right-hand side of the status bar and finding the position of the error (supplied by a failed open in Word) is pretty straightforward. I look for empty formatting
tags first and only remove content if removing empty tags does not allow the document to be opened. I try to note existing content in the area that I make modifications in order that I can supply position reference information to the owner of the DOCX.
When editing, I assume the philosophy that kess is more. My target is to get the document to open in Word with as little modification as possible and let the original owner of the DOCX make any necessary adjustments.
I should mention that after making a change to word/document.xml you need to save it in
    Notepad++ then go to
WinRAR and acknowledge that you want to update the file in the DOCX archive. Once the archive is updated, you can attempt to open the DOCX in Word to see if your efforts are successful.
    WinRAR
    Notepad++
    </snip>
    Further Fixes
The Fix it solution in this article should let you recover your Word document. However, the symptoms will reappear when you make any further edits to the document unless the core problem in the structure of the document is resolved.
To try to correct the core problem, follow one of these workarounds:
Install Office 2010 Service Pack 1
Office 2010 Service Pack 1 resolves this issue for new files. It will also prevent the problem from recurring with any files that were recovered with the Fix it solution in this article.
To download Office 2010 Service Pack 1, follow the steps provided in this Microsoft knowledge base article:
    2460049 - Description of Office 2010 SP1
    Grouping Objects
The steps provided work best under Word 2010:
After you open the recovered document, turn on the Selection pane. This can be found in the
Home tab of the ribbon. The editing group of the
Home tab has a dropdown button named Select.
Click the Select button, and then click
    Selection Pane...
Press the Ctrl button on your keyboard and then click each text box in the selection pane.
Click the Group button under the Format tab. This will group all the objects together.
As soon as you have all objects grouped on each page, save the document under a new name.
Save the document in the .RTF file format
The steps provided work for both Word 2007 and Word 2010:
After you open the recovered document, click File and select
Save (for Word 2007 click the Office button and select
    Save As)
In the Save As dialog box, click "Save as type:" dropdown and select
    Rich Text format (*.rtf).
    Click Save.

    Manual Fix
XML Maker V1.1 is free. It will allow you to open the document.xml file and edit it. It also marks errors and warnings.
I just didn’t have much luck working with it.
A poster used XML Maker V2.1 (US$125, 30day free trial, enough for average person to fix a file)
Notepad ++ is a good, free editor for this type of task
Make a copy of the file
Rename the copy from DOCX to ZIP
    Open … .ZIP/word/document.xml in notepad
Copy the contents of the file to clipboard
    Open Word
Paste a copy of the copied XML into Word
(optional) the XML is one long string too hard to read, you can replace some tags, with that tag plus a para mark to break up the text to make it more people readable.
Open an XML validator, ie this site on the internet:
    http://www.w3schools.com/xml/xml_validator.asp
Paste another copy of the XML into the “Syntax Check Your XML” input window
    Click on “validate” button
Copy the missing tag, ie </mc:Fallback>  (yours will be different)
Return to word Find: mc:Fallback>  (without the </ so you find both open and closing tags).
Repeat find until you hit 2 open tags in a row.  Then you just have to figure out where to put the closing tag between them.
Look for other tags before and after a proper closing tag so you can match the problem area to a good area.

    Document Recovery
    http://www.wordarticles.com/Shorts/Corruption/Formats.php
This page has the most readable description of Word file structures, DOC and DOCX, I have seen so far
The logical structure of a Word 97‑2003 format document is one of a series of elements arranged in a hierarchy, much like a mini file system. As an example, here is the structure of a simple Word 97‑2003 (.doc) format document:
    MyDocument.doc
    1Table
    *CompObj
    Word Document
    *SummaryInformation
    *DocumentSummaryInformation
The physical structure of the complete file bears little relation to the logical structure; it is, again, of a proprietary design, a compound, or structured storage, file. Briefly, and loosely, the separate logical elements of the file are broken up into
blocks; these blocks are treated as individual units, which units are then organised without regard for their logical arrangement, and catalogued, catalogue and organisation detail being held alongside the blocks themselves, to enable recombination into logical
    components when necessary.
Just to give you a flavour, here are some views of three small parts of such a document, viewed in a hex editor:
Views of a Word 97-2003 format Document
The logical structure of a Word 2007 format document is one of a series of elements arranged in a hierarchy, much like a mini file system. As an example, here is the structure of a simple Word 2007 (.docx) format:
    MyDocument.docx
    _rels
    rels
    docProps
    app.xml
    core.xml
    word
    _rels
    document.xml.rels
    theme
    theme1.xml
    document.xml
    settings.xml
    fontTable.xml
    webSettings.xml
    styles.xml
    [Content_Types].xml
As briefly as before, the [Content_Types] file and the _rels folders, along with the subordinate files therein, contain information about the logical structure, and the two files in the docProps folder contain much the same as the two Information files
in the old format. The document.xml element within the word folder holds the bulk of the document content and the other files within that same folder hold formatting details.
So, you might say, the internal structure of a document has changed a little, so what? There are, however, other changes that make a bigger difference. The first is that, although both logical formats are conceptually similar, they are wrapped up in
completely different ways to make a single file. Instead of the proprietary physical structure used for Word 97‑2003 format documents, a fairly standard, and open, Zip Archive format is used for Word 2007 format documents. The second change is that instead
of using obscure binary codes, everything in Word 2007 format documents, well almost everything, is held in XML format.
All data held as XML? In a standard Zip Package? It should be much easier to work with, then? Judge for yourself; here are some views of parts of a Word 2007 format document taken from a hex editor:
Views of a Word 2007 format Document
FreeFileViewer – reads 100+ text, Office, audio, video format file types – Can open some XML tag error files

Can't open Word file due to undeclared prefix, Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line:91, Column: 49921
The most likely cause of your particular problem is that you are missing a
schema prefix reference within the opening <document ...> XML tag (usually the second one). Different
schema references are required for various types of specialty content. Here is a sample opening <document ...> tag with a large number of various schema prefix codes. If I remove one or two of these, i can reproduce
    your error message.
    <w:document xmlns:ve="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:r="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships" xmlns:m="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/math"

It's impossible to blindly say exactly what you are missing but if you post an unadulterated copy of your document to a public file area (as noted above) and post the location back here, someone may be able to help. If you are going to go this route, send
a copy that has not already been subjected to repair attempts.
FWIW, while it may be hard to determine exactly which schema you may be missing, I do not believe that having extras causes any problems.
BTW, you don't actually have to rename the DOCX file extension if you have an archiving program. I use WinRAR and simply
<right-click>, Open With... to expose the archive.

  • GS70 Saving Files Between SSD and HDD

    Hey there,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to change preferences for saving files on my GS70? I want all of my games and programs on the SSD's, but for pictures and videos and such, I want those on the HDD. Is there a way I can change the settings so it's easier to save music/pictures/videos etc. to the HDD, rather than just saving the file and then copying it over? Thanks

Thanks for the help guys, I went into properties and changed my documents, music, etc from C: to D:. So Simple!
Now I have an off topic question: On the GS70, what is the middle audio jack? The one closest to me is the microphone, the one closest to the screen is the headphone jack, but I have no clue what the middle one is! Anyone care to enlighten me?

Not all audio files can be saved, streaming and audio embed
    within swf files
is hard to grab. Some players tho use directly Mp3 load,
    these files you can
find in Internet temporary cache folder.
For others, you could use some audio recording tool. I don't
    know Linux but windows
has program call Total Recorder which can take any output
    your speakers play and
record in excellent quality through your sound card device.
Easy to use and works like charm.

  • Save RTP audio in a file

    Hi,
I am on pc A and want to receive audio stream from pcB and store it in a file on pcB. AVReceive2 works but it plays audio, doesnt save it in file.
Please someone tell me how to do saving RTP audio in a file.
    Thanks

    Hello!
do you already know how to do it?
I think you can create a media locator on the server and save the file on the client. For one stream, you can create a DataSink to a file. But if there are more than one stream at the same time, you can create a SessionManager.
In this Session Manager, implement the Update method to catch the events of a new stream.
For every new stream, you can play the stream and save it.
But this is just what I've read. I'm planning to do it too..do you have it already done?
    Thanks!

  • How do I access any form of auto-saved files or backups on Adobe Audition CS 5.5?

After recording a nearly 2 hour interview for a project, I left my mac without saving my files because I knew that I was going to get back to work and save them later. Unfortunately, I got caught up with a phone call and eventually had to rush to catch a plane, so I just closed my mac and caught the plane. Upon my arrival, I realized that my mac died, but normally this wouldn't be a problem because once I connect the charger, everything would normally reopen with the recovered files. Unfortunately after opening adobe audition, I realized that my audio files that I hadn't saved were still there, but there were no longer any waves on the file. I didn't want to risk losing the files, if there was any way of me being able to retrieve them, so I saved the audio files with new names, but have still been unable to find the audio files with actual audio on them. Can someone please help me?
    http://www.jakeludington.com/audition/20060316_adobe_audition_crashed_how_do_i_get_my_audi o_back.html
Is there any way possible that I can do something like what they did in the link above?
    Thanks in advance,

Were you recording in the Waveform edit view or the Multitrack view?
Recording in the Waveform view only saves audio in temporary until you Save them. They are likely to be lost if you didn't same them before shutting down Audition or computer crashed.
If you were using Multitrack view then the audio is saved to your hard disc in real time and should be found in the "session name"_Recorded folder alongside your .sesx session file, something like:
C:\Users\"username"\Documents\Adobe\Audition\4.0\test\test_Recorded on a Windows machine. Not sure where on a Mac.
If it is the first file that you recorded in that session then it is likely to a name like "Track 1_001.wav" if you didn't save it as anything else.. So do a search for a file with that name on your computer. If you are very lucky it might still be recoverable.
Lesson: Always save any new file whenever you pause in your editing session.

If i try Clip > Modify > Interpreter Footage > custom settings to 23.976 time i see right time, but when i click "OK", custom fps saved as 23.98 fps instead of 23.976 fps and time of source goes wrong again.
So i always get bad sync such files in Premiere Pro CC while play or export them.
But in all media players, other editors, and in PluralEyes sync OK with all such files.
If i open M2TS or MP4 (H264 23.976 fps) source file, all OK, it it shows as 23.976 fps, time is right, and sync OK.
So i want to add automatic detection 23.976 fps instead of 23.97 fps for source AVI files with 23.976 fps.
    Is it possible?

Yes, i know what XviD and DivX does not edit well in Premiere Pro. And because of that i create this topic "No sync with audio for input files AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps" and was hoping to get help in solving the problem, rather than stating that the problem really is.
XviD and DivX it is MPEG4.
Xvid (formerly "XviD") is a video codec library following the MPEG-4 standard, specifically MPEG-4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xvid
I have many old useful materials in XviD and DivX formats, and have no other formats versions for that material.
XviD and DivX are very compact formats to store video at acceptable quality and it is fully compatible with all players and editors for PC except Premiere Pro.
You suggest to convert them to another format (DV) to make compatible with Premiere Pro... It is not what i want.
    Let me explaine:
    1) Size of files
uploaded AVI XviD 1280x720 file with very good quality have size 1.9Gb (with audio AC3 2.0). If i convert it via VirtualDub from "AVI XviD" to AVI DVCPRO HD 1280x720 (without audio) it have size 35Gb, and quality is worst than at XviD-HD, and also converting take much time.
    2) Compatibility with AC3 and MP3 audio inside AVI
AVI DV / AVI DVCPRO not compatible with AC3 and MP3 audio inside, only with PCM
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DV
AVI XviD and DivX can use AC3, MP3, OGG audio without any problems.
    Size of 1Hour 30Min "AC3 Stereo 48kHz 16bit 384Kbps" file is 257Mb
    Size of 1Hour 30Min "PCM Stereo 48kHz 16bit" file is 1030Mb
    3) I have and use hardware H264 encoder card "Matrox CompressHD" for export my material
    http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/compresshd/specs/
This card works only from Adobe Premiere Pro, so i can not use it from VirtualDub or other editing software.
So i need a full compatibility Adobe Premiere Pro with all popular standard formats of input files.
    Here we see:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/extend.html#Supportedvideoformats
    Supported video formats:
"Adobe Premiere Pro CC leads the industry with incredible, thorough native media support, meaning you can edit virtually all of the major video, image, and audio formats natively without waiting."
As most PC users knows, AVI XviD it is a very popular free video format, and would be very useful if Adobe will make normal compatibility with that format in Premiere Pro.

  • Saving files to a specific folder

I used to be a PC, now I am a Mac, learning fast, but I have a problem in saving files from the web. I am using OS 10.4.7
I am using Firefox and Thunderbird.
When I try to save email or a picture from a web site I am presented with a Menu; Save as, Where and Format. The 'Where' is the problem.
    When I click 'WHERE', I am presented with a list;
    Network
    Mac HD 80
    Mac HD 60
    Desktop
MCMP (HOME, where all my different folders are)
    Applications
    Movies
    Music
    Picures
When I click on MCMP, my home with all my sub folders, there is no way to save the file any place but just in MCMP. I have no options which folder in MCMP or sub folder of a main topic folder. Saving to MCMP just puts the file in with all my different folders.
How do I direct exactly which folder the item is to be saved into.
    Thank You

Spring loaded folders: Drag a file to a flder, hold it over it and the folder will open. You can use this to drop files into sub folders and so on. The timing on how long you have to hold is controlled in the Finder preferences -> General Pane.
Another possibilty for your original question is to use Default Folder X, a shareware, that makes navigating open and close dialogues very easy.

  • Authenication needed when moving or saving files to a folder

I've been online searching but can't find a resolution to disabling having to authenticate when moving or saving files to any folder.
I read something about using Terminal and tried the suggestion which was typing in
sudo chawn -R yourshortname . Then putting in my password when prompted. It either will not type my password or not accept it.
    Can anyone help? Thanks

You can't disable or correct it with that command. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1216618 for more information.

  • Saving file to network location

    Hello all of you,
I encounter an issue with InDesign CS5 when it comes to opening and saving files to a network location. I added my company's ftp server to Windows 7 and it appears correctly in the My computer overview (there's an additional line besides the hard discs, DVD player, et cetera). The connection to the server functions fine, no issues here. No problem exists when opening files from this server from within InDesign; I can do whatever I want. Only when I try to save a file the network location isn't displayed anymore within the My computer overview in the InDesign "Save as" dialog box. The network location however appears in the pull-down menu at the top of the dialog box (and nested as part of My computer ...), but when I pick it there, it won't show the context of the server. Additionally logging onto the server (it's IP-based and anonymous logon) doesn't change a thing. Trying to save in the empty server space InDesign returns a "Can't save here" error message.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
    Best regards,
    Luc Peulen

Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
Scott is basically right. Lots of ID users work over network connections without issue, but if something is going wrong, it's the first place to look. I wouldn't have thought it possible to work in InDesign over a FTP connection!
If you can get Windows to access that server as if it were just another drive (using "Map network drive" in Explorer) then it should work normally. However, a generic Adobe phone tech wouldn't help you figure out why it wouldn't work - there are simply too many variables in a network environment for a generic first-level tech to figure out.
In the short term, the only solution I can suggest is:
Retrieve all of that external content that is linked in the document, and the InDesign document, at the same time, & store it on your local hard drive.
    Do your work.
    Save & package.
Upload the entire package back to the server.
Long-term, you'd need to talk to your own IT staff to troubleshoot the connection between your workstation and the FTP server. If you can get information about your network from them to post here, I bet that someone will make suggestions to pass on to your IT staff that will actually work.

  • How to get a gif file to loop in PE11 with MAC 10.6.8? 480x320x72 pix/in. saved layers for web, check animate, preview plays fine but saved file doesnt

can't figure out why the gif file won't loop. Set up 5 photo frames 480x320pixels x 72pix/in in PE11, creating a layer for each. Each layer visible. Saved for web. Checked animate. The preview plays fine. But when I save the file and then click on the saved file to play, it re-opens the layers instead of playing the loop. The only SAVE option that shows up is "IMAGES ONLY"
Using photoshop elements 11 on MAC 10.6.8. Either I'm setting this up wrong or is there a hidden setting I need to change?

Thanks for the thought, Barbara B. Not sure if this counts, but emailed the file to myself [different email account, same computer] but it would not play as an email attachment. Any suggestions for a web upload where I can test your suggestion? Seems like there should be a different save option other than IMAGES ONLY but that is the only option I'm given.

  • Office 2013 applications cannot be made to show the "Documents" folder when opening and saving files

(Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 8.1 PRO)
We are redirecting the user's "Documents" folder to the network (using Folder Redirection). The OS hides this fact however, and most applications simply see the "Documents" folder when opening or saving files, including Office 2003.
Office 2013 however displays the actual path, which in this case is:
    \\sever1\redirect$\username\documents
Even if you forcibly set the "Default local file location:"  in the Options Save area to the 'Documents' folder in, say, Word, Word immediately converts the local path to the network path.
Is there anyway to get Office 2013 to follow the virtual path? All of other apps follow it and expose the users only to "Documents".
    Thank you so much.
    Dana

There's nothing in my FAQ concerning screen savers, so I'm unsure why you decided to take that approach. From your description, it looks like you only tried a few of the suggestions before throwing in the towel. That's fine, it's your call.
I don't have the problems you described with 10.4.7. Usually when folks have problems after an update, these are caused by either installing an update on an already-corrutped system or they've installed third-party applications or hardware that have been rendered incompatible by the update.
Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.
    Good luck!
