NO AVAILABLE APPLICATION TO OPEN...

EVERYTIME I TRY TO DOWNLOAD A MUSIC SITE IT SAYS THAT THERE IS NO AVAILABLE APP TO OPEN IT. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? EVEN WHEN I TRY TO INSTALL MOZILLA I CANT DO THAT EITHER PLEASE SOMEONE HELP THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING..THANKS

PS: When you start a topic, you do not have to make a new
one just to add to the discussion; thought I'd add that little
bit of information, so as to point out your primary posting
here has been +one post spread over four+ for the most part...
...and if you spell out what it is you are doing, the hardware
and software you are trying to do (whatever) it is, with, the
general answer would be more forthcoming.
Had you stated you were trying to open an .exe music file
from some free(?) music downloads site and the Safari
browser you had been trying to do so with had failed, then
the replies could have been more crafted to answer your
real question. Most unaided .exc file types are generally
Windows and an exc is also used as a command file to
execute something; so even a savvy windows user may
decide to be careful in opening up and running an .exe file.
(They, like many kinds of file names for Windows could be
capable of harboring something malicious or unexpected.)
{Many of the file-sharing sites where people traded or gave
away, or shared music had made the news several times a
year; since there had been questions of legality in how some
of the music was shared. So, while there may be Mac-ready
sites where music could be downloaded for free, you have
to be aware that some of them may be operating outside of
the normal legally responsible channels. In other words, if
you randomly download stuff and don't care to know if you
have any rights to the content, you may be breaking a law.}
If you just want to listen to internet music content, on the other
hand, several stations across the world have channels online
you can listen to on your computer. Commercials, too; maybe.
And if you check the iTunes Radio, you can see a list of types
of music with a triangle by each one, click on those and see
the available station identities there, and double-click to be
able to see if you can get the station to work. Some just do &
some may not at different times. That works for free, but they
don't download to your computer. They just play like radio.
Although not recommended, there had been some software
that worked in demo or free (download) which could record
any sound in your computer; so such software could make
a recording of your computer's clicks, pops and any audio
which happened to be playing at the time you had the app
running. Including a sometimes very bad copy of music.
That ^ may be considered illegal, too; so that is a matter of
ones use of the rest of the internet to learn about this matter.
Anyway, there is a protocol and means toward an end, and
sometimes this requires a bit of effort to glean knowledge;
even if it is something you do not want to hear.
So, if you don't find answers to your liking, revise how you
propose the question and remember, we don't have to reply.
Not like the computer users sitting at home with a few hours
a week, knowing this stuff, are on the staff. We aren't.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • No available applications can open it

im trying to download itunes 10 and it keeps coming up with no available applications can open it

You're probably getting an incomplete download. Apple's servers are jammed with people trying to download the new version of iTunes and iOS, so the download is probably breaking before it finishes. Try downloading later, or perhaps tomorrow, when the initial rush calms down and see if you have better results.

  • IMac 10.5.8 - No application for opening downloaded books?

I have a problem specifically opening and transferring books to my Kindle. No problem exists with Amazon e/book site, but most others seem to be a problem. Book items are 'downloaded' but when taking the next step to open/transfer to Kindle there is quote  "no available application to open it". Does any one have any idea as to how I may solve this issue?  My iMac is pretty old and I do not seem to get software updates as before - which may be part of the problem?
    Thank you.
    Lance

Your iMac isn't that old, but it is not running the latest versions of OS X.
I believe there is a KIndle Reader app for OS X, but you need OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to be able to both access the Mac App Store to download the app and, also, to install and run the Kindle Book app.
You first need to purchase and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Also, it wouldn't hurt to increase the RAM in your iMac.
Your year and model iMac can take 8 GBs of RAM.
Intel versions of OS X tend to need a working minimum of 4 GBs of RAM.
If you can, strongly advise installing the full 8 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Once OS X 10.6 is installled , you will need to use OS X Software Update function in OS X's System Prefernces Panel to update to OS X to OS X 10.6.8. This will give your iMac access to the Mac App Store.
If you wish, your iMac year and model can be updated, once , again, for another $20 U.S.D., to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion OR your can directly update for FREE to OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Here's the link to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
Before embarking on a OS X system upgrade, it would be very prudent to back up all of your important, personal data, beforehand.
You can choose just to backup the most important data by either burning data to CDs/DVDs, or copying data to large capacity USB flash drives.
The two better methods is to purchase a good quality external hard drive and backup the data and OS using OS X's Time Machine app to back your data up to an externally connected hard drive.
The other method is to backup your entire system and data using data cloning apps such as Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper to clone an exact copy of your iMac's internal hard drive to the externally connected hard drive.   Cloning data to an external drive will give that drive the ability to boot from in an emergency. Your Mac will be able to be booted and run off of an external drive.
The type of connection of an external hard drive is yours to choose. The two types of data transfer connections your Mac can use are USB 2.0 or FireWire 400/800.
If you want a hard drive that has a faster, continuous throughput of data and the possibilty of running your iMac from an external hard drive (in the event your Mac's internal hard drive fails or data becomes corrupt and your Mac system won't boot to the Mac's internal drive) opt for a FireWire drive. If none of this is important to you, then get a hard drive that uses a USB 2.0 connection, instead.
    Good Luck!

My hard drive has 70.93 GB available, yet when i have more than one internet tab open, i have to force quit google chrome because 'there is no more available application memory'. How can I solve this? I have a 2009 macbook pro running on 10.6.8. I have tried updating to mavericks through the mac app store but after it downloading for a day i got an error message saying there was a problem with the download. The same thing happens if i try to update itunes or the mac app store. After research, i have also tried repairing disk permissions, but every time they do get repaired the 'repair' button still appears, i'm not sure if it's because it was unable to repair the initial problems or if it just keeps detecting new ones.

2 GBs is a minimum in which you can do many things, but not concurrently. Be very careful to not install third-party add-ons, limit the number of applications you choose to enter in Login Items, run as few applications concurrently as you demand.
I would consider adding more RAM to your computer. Your model supports 8 GBs, so I would install that.

  • Commenting functionality not available when I open a pdf in air application

adobe air 1.0 but I still have the same problem even if I use the
    latest air runtime

    Back up all data.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Remove Applications from "Open With..." List

Ever since I installed Adobe Creative Suite, there have been countless applications available in the Open With... list for image file types (JPEGs, PNGs, etc.).
How do I remove applications from that list for a given file type?
    Thanks!

There are a whole bunch of mostly useless little droplets that are installed by Photoshop and ImageReady. You can either toss them all, toss all but the one or two you might use, or just zip them and then if you ever want one unzip, take what you want and rezip the others (I kept Make Sepia Tone.exe and zipped all the others, and put a text file with a list of them all in the parent folder). Here's the location:
    "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS/Samples/Droplets"
There is one folder full of ImageReady ones, and another folder of the Photoshop ones. If you trash them you can also get them back from the install disk. After you zip or trash them restart the computer and your Open with list will be back to normal.

HI oregon and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
I have an iBookG4 also and had the same exact thing happen when I used DU to check the drive. I rain Verify, it reported the errors same as yours, I clicked the Repair button but that didn't do the trick, then I remembered something that is a basic rule of thumb. If the drive has 15% or less free drive space, application icons will bounce in the dock but not open the app itself. Check to make sure you have plenty of available space. Open any Finder window. At the bottom of that window you will see free drive space displayed.
Also, DU can't repair the disk from the Disk Utility app in the Applications folder, you have to do that using the system restore disc(s) that came with your iBookG4. I'm pretty sure DU is on the Disc 1. Insert the disc, double click the folder when it mounts on the Desktop. DU should be in there. Run DU from that disc to Verify and hopefully Repair any errors. Free up as much extra drive space as you can.
If DU can't fix the problem, you might consider either DiskWarrior www.alsoft.com or TechToolPro www.micromat.com Either one can fix disk errors. I personally like DW. Between my iBook and PBook, I've yet to have to take one into Apple for repairs of anykind because DW could fix the problem.
    Hang in there ...

  • Global shortcuts when an application is open

    Hi,
I want to use shortcut commands like Chift+Command+C to go to the computer folder even when an application is open (Example Firefox).  The problem is that whenever an application is open and I press these commands nothing happens or something else happens.  How do I achieve this functionality?
    Thanks
    Arjuna.

For a Finder keyboard shortcut to be available in any application, you have to set the Finder command up as a Service and to bind this service to a keyboard short cut. Then the applications will understnd the keyboard shortcut.
To set up a service for "Chift+Command+C to go to the computer folder ":
Launch Automator, create a new service, set it to receive no input in any application, and add the following actions from "Files and Folders":
Get specified Finder items (and press "Add" and select your "Computer")
    Reveal Finder items.
    Save the service as "ShowComputerFolder.workflow"
Use "System Preferences" > "Keyboards > keyboard Shortcuts" to bind the service to your keyboard shortcut:
In the "Keyboard Shortcuts" tab select "Services" in the left column. And in the right column enable your new service. To the right of the service name click the shortcut field - it should still be showing "none" and ente the shortcut you want.  Now the shortcut should work in any application.

  • Gray Sidebar Icons, Slow Application File Open/Save in OS-X 10.7

I hate the gray sidebar icons in Mac OS-X. I am a very visual person and every clue, including color, helps. I don't understand why Apple has found it necessary to take a giant step backward in time. Perhaps soon they will reintroduce black and white monitors.
Anyway, I downloaded a pluging that restores colors to the finder windows, but not the application file open/save dialogs. Also, many times the application open/save dialog windows are slow to load the sidebar window; i.e. I can't do anything until they load the the folders, files, and devices available to open.
Does anyone have a fix for this? Does anyone know if Apple plans to restore colored icons?
    Thanks - Bill

    Try rebuilding Finder prefs....
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
EDIT: Could it be whatever app you're using for the FInder windows that's causing that slowness?
