No BBC Channels

This morning we have lost all the BBC channels on BT Vision. Originally BT Vision wouldn't show any BBC channel, then tried a channel rescan, now channels all listed but just show a black screen with 'channel unavailable'. All other channels operating normally. Any suggestions why?

Firstly, check ukfree to see if there are any engineering works in your area.
What signal strength/quality are you getting on the other channels.
If you're in a cusp area it may be a good idea to turn off the automatic channel update. The downside of this is that you will have to scan manually if the channel lineup changes, but you shouldn't lose your channels overnight anymore. It won't help you see their content, though.

  • EPG all BBC channels - No Information currently av...

    Hi All
Since the switchover 2 days ago all the BBC channels in the EPG state - No Information currently available. None of our scheduled records have taken place either.
I followed the suggestions in a previous post 'Lost BBC programme info since Switchover (solved)' hoping it would work for me as its the same transmitter (Whitehawk). Alas not I've flushed, rescanne, soft rebooted, rescanned, actually all the combinations you can think of and it just not flushed.
    Any ideas?

I'd assume it's a problem with the freeview transmitter then as opposed to the BT vision box if you're bother getting the same. You're both on the same transmitter so it would make sense.

  • How do you convert channels.dvb to channels.conf

Title says is all. How do you convert the kaffeine file channels.dvb to a channels.conf file which can be used by mplayer.
The winterhill transmitter in the UK is now totally digital, since the change over I've not been able to get BBC channels properly in mplayer. The receiver is a Freecom DVB-T USB. I've manually edited the uk-WinterHill file with the transmitter info to update it and used it to create a channels.conf file.
    scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/uk-WinterHill > /home/~/channels.conf
This picked up pretty much all the channels & I can tune into BBC channels but receive no picture. I've googled a bit and it seems other people have this problem too and they think it's a problem due to the increased power of the signal after the change over to digital. I've tried a variable attenuator which did no good.
I've now found that kaffeine can scan for and find the BBC channels AND it can also play them back properly. So the theory about the signal strength being too much for the freecom sticks attenuator is probably a load of guff, at least in my case.
The data for BBC One from the kaffeine channels.dvb is:-
    TV|BBC ONE|101(2)|102(eng),106(eng),|0|4168|4168|Terrestrial|802000|0|v|-1|-1|-1|-1|8|-1|-1|-1|45|105(16)(1)(1)(eng),||9018|-1|0|
The same data from the mplayer/scan channels.conf is:-
    BBC ONE:802000000:INVERSION_AUTO:BANDWIDTH_8_MHZ:FEC_2_3:FEC_AUTO:QAM_64:TRANSMISSION_MODE_8K:GUARD_INTERVAL_1_32:HIERARCHY_NONE:101:102:4168
I really don't want to keep kaffeine installed and any links or info that would help convert these channel data files would be greatly appreciated. Seems there are ways to convert them the other way round, but so far I've found nothing to do it fron channels.dvb to channels.conf

Do you want to capture a single frame of the video as a separate image? You can play the video full screen in QuickTime, pause it at the appropriate frame and take a screenshot using shift-command-3.

  • No Signal on random channels

Was wondering if anyone can help me. We've lost signal on certain channels today.
The BBC channels as well as Pick TV, Dave, Really, E4+1, Movie Mix, Create & Craft, Sky News have no signal. Haven't checked EVERY other channel but they appear to be working fine.
Is this a known issue? Can anyone advise me as to how to solve the problem.
    Cheers,
    Dave

Check your local transmitter for any work
Plug aerial into TV and check if they are available on that
    Check connections
If still missing unplug aerial and scan for channels. Plug aerial in and rescan.
Still not fixed by any of the above check your aerial, boosters etc

  • Picture problem on some channels

Hi I am new to Youview got my box yesterday not sure if this is normal but sometimes when I go to a channel I get a black screen with just audio. If I go up or down a channel then back to the channel I was on it ok. This only seems to happen on freeview channels so am wondering could this be a signal problem.
    Thank you in advance

This started happeing really from a first time install. I then decided to restore box. I was just flipping through the channels channel 035 QVC beauty and 042 Travel channel. Again the audio is there but the screen is black. It appears to always happen on these 2 channels and the one on BBC was just a one off.
It just appears to happen to the same bunch of channels. At the moment BBC channels appear ok.

  • Channels missing

    Hi
I installed BT Vision a couple of days ago.  Everything is working fine - including getting access to the two sports channels using a viewing card - but I can only receive a few of the other channels.  I can't get any of the BBC channels, ITV 1, ITV 2 or C4 etc. - when I type in the relevant channel numbers, a message on the box appears saying 'unavailable'.  The only ones I can get are ITV3, ITV4, Film 4 and a handful of shopping channels!
I know my aerial is fine, as it is less than 3 years old and I can get all the channels on my TV's tuner and the tuner on my HDD recorder without any problems.  I've tried re-booting and re-scanning a number of times without any change.
Is this a common problem?  I'd be grateful for any suggestions!  Thanks in advance.

i hope you have more luck than i am having i use to get all the hd channells and the extra channels but mid july they stopped i am now waitng for someone from "level 3" to get in touch but not holding my breath 1 thing you could try next time you phone is ask for the level 2 direct line no AND THE CURRENT PIN NO it will save you ages waiting for someone to talk to,,,, best of luck

  • Poor signal only on certain channels

Hi, new to the forum.  I've been a BTBB customer for several years and BT vision customer for around 2 years but only now have I suffered a problem with the actual service itself.
Over the past week or two, I've had consistent problems seemingly with only the BBC channels while viewing via BT vision.  It would suggest that the signal appears to be very very poor, causing 'blocking' all over the image alongside short high-pitched squealing noises and, at times, the image & sound completely disappear.  Completely unwatchable.  If I change to a non-BBC channel though, the image & sound are near-perfect as I'd expect.  Also, if I view those BBC channels through my TV's own digital receiver, they too are near-perfect.
On rare occasions, those BBC channels can be watchable before running into the same problem shortly afterwards.
Any time I've tested my line speed, the results vary from around 4500Kb/s to around 5900Kb/s.  Immediately after realising the problem persisted this evening, I tested the speed again, and the result was 5743Kb/s.  Apparently, there haven't been any engineering works in my area.
Another problem that only seems to have surfaced at the same time is that a few of my recordings have disappeared, although they had the 'keep until I delete' option selected.
    Can anyone help?  Much appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi
Most of the BBC channels are broadcast on one multiplex, so if you're finding problems with only the BBC channels it could be a signal strength issue.  The vision box has twin tuners so if there's a weak signal it can show up on the vision box quicker than on the single tuner on a TV.
Do you know if there have been any engineering works on your transmitter?  There's normally news of transmitter works on this web-site www.ukfree.tv

  • (UK) Cannot receive TV channels from HDX16 TV antenna, WTF?

Hi all, I recently got my new HDX 16 1005EA laptop. It is fantastic apart from when I wish to watch freeview, the antenna that came with it picks up no channels whatsoever but when I use a RF coaxial cable I get BBC channels only, no Five or ITV1, 2 etc.
Does anyone know what I can do to receive these channels and/or a way to get the antenna to receive channels??

I too have HDX 16 series premium laptop and I am in the middle east. The built-in TV tunner is not working as it does not show any channels. tried in Thailand as well but with no success...... Can anyone help in solving this problem?

    Hi Cbme,
Welcome to the forum. Is it on the BBC that you are having problems while recording? If you send me in your details using the link found in the "About me" section of my profile, I will look into this for you.

  • Toshiba 32c3030d Television freeview problems

    Hi,
My TV has decided to stop displaying freeview. (DTV input).
Terrestrial TV works okay, BBC - channel 4, as do all the other inputs, ie: HDMI1 and , PC etc.
I thought it could be just a signal issue ,however on i cant even select the menu option on DTV without it dropping off the screen after 2 seconds.
The display alternates every few seconds between black and darker black,(like the display has completely turned off)
Just so strange as all other inputs are fine!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Kieron

    Kieron,
Surprised more people not on here with this problem. Have contacted Toshiba - the problem is common. The set requires a factory software update. I telephoned them and despite the set being nearly 3 years old they have arranged collection - they'll supply the box, fix and return at no charge!! The service number is on the Tosh website.

  • Poor picture on SS1, SS2 & ESPN

I've recently signed up for these channels.  They worked OK to begin with but in last few days, the picture has been very poor - breaking up, lines across screen, pixellated etc.  Also ITV2 is affected, is this a BT vision problem or related to Freeview reception issues?  Could the weather be affecting the Freeview reception?
    Thanks

Hi, thanks for the replies.  I live in Shropshire, out in the sticks!  Reception has been variable, was OK yesterday, but this morning the signal is a bit broken up.  I've realised that the same problem is not confined to SS1 & 2, but also affects other channels like ITV, C4 etc.  Only BBC channels appear to be fine.
It seems to be worse when there is heavy rain, or in the hours after this, so I wonder if water is getting into our cables somewhere.  Anyway, its the same whether I have freeview through the BT vision box or not, so it is either the transmitter signal that is poor where I live (and easily affected by the weather), and/or water is getting into our system somewhere when there is very heavy rain (and there has been a lot of this recently!)

  • Why does plugging in my MBP make my MUX 2 reception disappear?

    Hello...
In my sitting room I keep my Macbook Pro near the TV/Freeview Plus box so that I can run a cable from the MBP to an HDMI socket on my TV.
I have recently noticed that the powering up of my Mac cuts out all the MUX 2 channels (ITV, ITV 2, Channel 4.5 etc...). The BBC channels remain unaffected.
The solution would appear to be to power the Mac from a different power socket but I am intrigued whether anyone could clarify what on earth is going on for this to happen?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this for me.

What an appalling use of English sanjampet. My question was perfectly clear.
Should anyone else have similar issues I am posting the solution myself (thanks to Yahoo answers for this).
It turns out that the generic power supply I was using for the MBP was generating RF interference. This is what was cutting out the MUX 2 reception on the freeview box.
I replaced the power supply with a genuine Apple power supply and all is now well - so, all my fault for using a generic power supply...

  • New tv

This may be a stupid question, but can I plug my vision+ box into a tv with built-in freeview and still get all my on demand stuff?

You'll be fine. Just remember to connect the RF out of the box to the RF in of the TV and you can record 2 programmes using the Vbox tuners while watching a third on the TV tuner
May I just add, that if you have one of the old silver vision boxes that also have an RF out connection, make sure that you set the RF channel to one which does not clash with the new Freeview mux channels.
I spent a good hour after the last phase of the Rowrige transmitter, trying to figure out why my Freeview TV could not get any of the BBC channels.
I finally realised that the RF output channel was sitting right on top of the BBC mux .
I changed to RF out channel to its highest setting, and everything was fine.
I wonder how many other people have been caught out by this

  • Youview Signal/Quality Issues

I have had a Youview box for a few weeks now and ever since it arrived the signal and picture quality has been very unreliable and patchy, with pixelation, horizontal lines appearing across the screen and breakup in sound when viewing live TV and recordings. I have re-tuned all the channels several times, signal strength is constantly 80% and above, signal quality is 100% and i have tried several different aerial cables and this problem still persists.
If anyone has any ideas then they would be weclome. This seems to be for most channels but im noticing it most on BBC1, BBC2, ITV and their HD versions.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the responses all, my BBC 1 is showing as BBC1 East E which would make sense as im in the north norwich area.
I managed to convince my girlfriend to ditch sky for Youview with BT and so far all i have had is complaints that it was a mistake, so im really hoping that I can find a solution to this to make it all go away
Im on ITV HD at the moment and seems ok, the occasional spasm but not as bad as the BBC channels.

  • List of internet radio stations in 3.0

Does anyone know where the AppleTV gets its list of internet radio stations from?
I'd quite like to listen to the BBC channels (Radio 1 mostly) through the appleTV, but it's not in the list. Is there a way to add it?

The radio stations have been there in itunes for some considerable time, I'm not sure anyone outside  knows what criteria has to be fulfilled to appear on the list, but I guess it's by arrangement, I suspect the BBC haven't any interest in being on that list.
