No Flex Charts with SDK 3.5

Hi guys. I am experiencing a problem with not being able to use Flex's chart components with sdk 3.5
I have Flex Builder Professional.
Charts work with the 3.0 and 3.2 SDK but not 3.5
Am I missing something?

I found out that the library is not bundled with the SDK itself and has to be downloaded separate. I downloaded the library here http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flex/sdk/datavisualization_sdk3.5.zip

Flex charting with Coldfusion data

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to do charting with data
coming from Coldfusion? I'm not a newbie, but not quite there yet
with coding yet either so an example might be helpful. I was
looking at converting a cfc. file to as. but started doubting if
that can actually be done (just a stab in the dark on my

Should have spotted this last time. Try using
event.lastResult.getCDDDataResult.
I am presuming that updateCDDChart is being called as the
result of an HTTPService.
EDIT: No, that won't work. You use lastResult when using
HTTPService a different way. Not entirely sure what your problem is
at the moment. I'll maybe get a chance to look more closely this
evening.

Flex 2.0.1 SDK Hotfix 1 breaking Flex Charting?

Hi all,
I applied the Flex SDK 2.0.1 Hotfix 1 listed in
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=kb401224
to my Eclipse Flex Plugin environment with SDK 2.0.1. Unfortunately
this seems to have broken flex charting with the following
compilation errors in my project: Unable to resolve a class for
ResourceBundle: charts.
Now the SDK doesn't have the charts.swc file, so I tried
copying over the charts.swc from my old SDK folder to the
frameworks\libs folder under the new hotfixed SDK. This doesn't
seem to fix the error however. It makes sense as charting it a
separate component but maybe there is an upgraded chart version as
well to work with the hotfixed SDK?
Can anyone provide any guidance here, we are in dire
straights. Any help is greatly appreciated!

To update the Flex Builder 2 Eclipse plug-in on Windows:
1. Read the Flex Builder 2 Release Notes for any
late-breaking information, updates, and known issues.
2. Download the Flex Builder 2.0.1 Update Installer for
Windows from the Adobe Flex Support Center.
3. Open or double-click the installer executable file.
4. Accept the license agreement and follow the prompts.
5. If the installer detects multiple installations of Flex
Builder 2, it prompts you for the location to be updated.
6. Select which Flash Player 9 browser plug-in to install:
* Internet Explorer
* Netscape or Firefox
Note: Flex Builder 2.0.1 and Flex SDK 2.0.1 can run with the
base version of Flash Player 9 (Version: 9,0,16,0 dated 6/27/07).
However, it's best to install the Flash Player 9 Update.
7. (Optional) When the installation finishes, restart your
computer to ensure that the updated Flash Player browser plug-in is
enabled.

Flex Charting DateTimeAxis

I have a problem in the Flex Charting with the DateTimeAxis.
I have requirement to show more than 60 days data in days using the
line chart. When I tried that, chart showing x-axis data point in
months instead of days even though dataUnits mentioned in days.
When I observed Chart show data correctly if the data is in between
two months. If the data is span across more than two months chart
is showing x-axis labels in months.
Please let me know anything wrong in the code.

Charting with Flex Builder

I am a newbie and am looking to develop some graphs and
charts using Flex Builder, could someone provide some insight on

This issue was resolved with help from Ryan at Adobe tech
support. For anyone else who's suffering from this problem, the
resolution is that you need a valid Flex 2 w/Charting serial number
to place in the file "<Flex 3 Builder
Root>\sdks\2.0.1\frameworks\license.properties" on the line
"charting=<serial #>".
To answer my own previously asked questions:
Yes, Flex Builder 3 is supposed to entitle me to use the Flex
Charting component (which is integrated with Flex 3, but was an
addon in Flex 2).
No, the Flex Builder 3 serial does NOT work with Flex 2
Charting. You need a Flex 2 w/Charting serial.
To anyone in this position, I would recommend opening tech
support case via the web support portal and politely explaining
your situation. It took a few days, but when I finally got through
to someone who could help, the resolution was prompt.

Flex RSL issue with SDK version change?

Hi Friends!
     I am facing very crucial common problem when using Flex RSL feature.
Problem: My Custom component library is compiled with Flex 3.0 and more than 50 applications are using it. Now some of our new applications needs to use the features from Flex 3.2 SDK(like increased control width and height) and those controls should also be in same library.
So, the library should be common for application which are using 3.0 as well as 3.2.
My requirement is
"Without recompiling all Flex 3.0 applications, I need to run both Flex 3.0 and 3.2 applications using library compiled in Flex 3.2"
now I am getting some errors like,
     Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on mx.core::CrossDomainRSLItem() -- from systemmanager
     VerifyError: Error #1053 -- mx.managers.SystemManagerProxy.
     ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable _*_mx_managers_SystemManager
Is it possible to win this?
I hope flex is having backward compatibility.
Please help me on this.

Flex Automation with QTP 10 (SDK 3.2 & 3.5) Error

I have been able to get very basic applications to work with the automation libraries and then with QTP.The issue I'm having is with the actual project I would like to automate. I have done all of the steps to install automation correctly and have also put the additional compiler arguments into flex. However when the application is initialzing I get the following errors:

The application that I'm working with uses the code-behind method of flex development. Has anyone had any issues working with QTP with a project using this method? Any information/ideas are appreciated.

Webcam not working in AIR with Flex 4.0 SDK

Hello everybody,
I have created an AIR application with the Flex 4.0 SDK which tries to activate a webcam. When I run the application, the webcam signalizes that it has been successfuly activated but unfortunately I do not receive a camera image, nor do I receive an activation or error event from the camera. When I change the application type to "web", everything works just fine.
According to this thread:http://forums.adobe.com/message/2580536 , you should activate the Flex 3 compatibility mode. Unfortunately, I rely heavily on Flex 4 components which cannot be changed or removed.
Is there a way to activate the webcam under AIR with Flex 4?

I used ditto on Mac. I would make a backup copy of the Flex SDK first.
Then use ditto to update the SDK with AIR SDK.

ComboBox retaining initial values with Flex 3.5 SDK :(

Hello All,
Please run the following code using Flex SDK 3.5 and see the output. Selection of any department name in first Combo box should display related sub-department names in the second combo box. However, while running this example with Flex SDK 3.5, the second combo box (meant for displaying sub department values) displays only the first related subdepartment value correctly while retaining the rest of its values with that of the initial selection of the first combo box.

Flex Chart -- Why is it so buggy and not getting fixed

We are trying to replace our realtime dashborad with flex
3.x charts. We're getting hit with numereous memory issues such as

Bugs have been filed since April and no updates from Adobe at
all.
At the current state Flex chart is only good for displaying
static data that doesn't change.
Why is this not in flex's high priority list given the fact
that one of the major allure of flex (besides multi-media of
course) right now is charting on the client to off load server
load?
Why is the flex charting group so unresponsive to bugs filed
given the fact that people are shedding quite a bit of mulla to get
this functionality??

I'm attaching here the section from sdk-15710 (flex jira)
where numerous people have been asking for the availability of this
bug fix which have gone unanswered.
Hoping someone from adobe will have some answers.

On the Adobe site, there are two bugs that seem to be the
cause of the memory leak we are seeing when using the Flex Charting
package with 3.0 Flex, running on Windows XP Pro SP2. Both are
recorded as Fixed, and one is also noted as Closed. Still we are
seeing what looks like one or both of these bugs.
Adobe Flex community: How do we verify for certain that we
are running versions of Flex containing these fixes? What version
has fixes for both cases? How do we make sure?
Please provide more information in the JIRA issues for both
bugs. Obviously these are of interest to the developer community,
given the follow-up posts and the number of Voters and Watchers.

Flex Charting on Moxie M2

Hi,
When I try to compile an application with Flex 2.0.1 compiler
under Moxie, the Charts show "Charting trial mode". When I switch
to Moxie Compiler, it disappears (I have a flex 2 and a Flex
Charting Serial). How can I register my Flex Charting component for
Flex 2 in Moxie ?

The reason for this behavior is that the license.properties
file of Flex201 has not been updated. To fix this, follow the

Can Flex data visualization sdk be used for free?

I am not interested in the soure of the data visualization component as such,but I plan to use it(binary) just to create the swf files and deploy on a website. I know that Flex SDK is free. But can i use the data visualization component with the Flex SDK(command line) for free?
I am actually able to use it and do not see any watermark. Just wanted to make sure its free use is permitted under the license.

I am still a bit confused. Let me clarify a bit more.
The 'Get the free Flex SDK' link in Flex Homepage (http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/) lists the following downloads:
1. Adobe Flex 3.4 SDK
2. Adobe Flex 3.4 Data Visualization Components for Flex Builder
3. Adobe Flex 3.4 Automation Libraries for Flex Builder
I downloaded 'Adobe Flex 3.4 SDK' and 'Adobe Flex 3.4 Data Visualization Components for Flex Builder' and unzipped the files, and merged the contents of the two unzipped folders(copied to appropriate folders).
So now, using the command line mxmlc I can use the chart components and I do not see any watermark.
And I do not intend to buy Flex Builder as I just use the command line compiler and a simple text editor. So do I still need to pay the cost of Flex Builder professional(for ethical reasons)? Or since I dont use Flex builder, am I permitted to use the data visualization components for free? Technically there is nothing blocking me to use it free, like the need of a license key etc.

Column Chart with Multiple axes
