I was cleaning my mac and i was eraceing every thing.
now i got the new snowlepard i try to install it and there is no harddrive to install it to
and i tryed to figure out how to makeit come up again and there was no luck
_+So i was wondering if any one knows how to fix it+_

Hello AppleKid22, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Which exact Mac do you have?
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the OS X Install disc , then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
Does it show up there?

  • Archlinux. On QEMU. On your USB. On Windows

    - GOAL
Running ArchLinux 2009.02 on an USB Drive in Windows. Slow? Perhaps. Personally, I think it is actually pretty fast. Though
I must admit that I don't use funky things like X-windows (KDE, Gnome or something else), it was still pretty fast for a
complete OS running from an USB stick within(!) another OS.
So why would you want to do this? It's quite simple, actually. For me, the problem was that I always had to use Windows (XP)
at my work and wouldn't be able to boot into Arch there using a LiveCD or USB, thus being unable to use all my applications.
Perhaps you ARE able to boot into Linux at your work, but still, it can become quite frustrating to have to boot into another
Operating System all the time. With this, you don't have to do that anymore, you can run all your Linux applications IN
        Windows!
    - REQUIREMENTS
        - Download QEMU 0.9.0 for Windows
        - Download ArchLinux 2009.02 (later versions will probably work, but I used this version)
        - An empty CD
        - An USB drive of at least 4GiB
    - GETTING ARCH
The first thing you should do once you have downloaded ArchLinux (a task that could take a while, depending largely on the
speed of your internet connection,) is to burn it to a CD. Perhaps it's different with you, but for me, QEMU wasn't able to
use the CD-image of ArchLinux properly without it being burned to a CD and being in the real CD-drive. Yes, I know this sucks,
because this means the installation of ArchLinux on your USB drive is going to take even MORE time, but I'm afraid it won't
work otherwise. (It didn't work with me, at least, perhaps it is different if you are using a different version of Arch, feel
free to contact me if this is the case.)
    - SETTING UP QEMU
Once you have downloaded and unzipped QEMU, you have to create a disk image using qemu-img.exe. Fire up a terminal, and run
"qemu-img.exe create harddisk.img 4000M". This will probably take some time. (Assuming you are doing this on your USB drive,
if you're not, you still have to copy the file to your USB drive someday, so don't think you've bypassed the test of patience!)
When it's done, you will have a nice raw image file of 4000 Megabytes without any data in your folder, we are going to need
        this later.
Now, to be able to boot the ArchLinux CD in QEMU, we have to modify the qemu-win.bat file a bit. Open the file, remove all
lines, and then write this: "qemu.exe -L . -m 512 -boot d -cdrom /dev/cdrom -hda harddisk.img" Now if you run this batch file,
it will start QEMU, allocate a maximum of 512MB RAM to the application (use less if you don't have that many, but I recommend
using as much as possible, since you don't want it to run TOO slow), boot from CDROM (-boot d) and use the /dev/cdrom to
locate the CDROM image, which should be your (first) CD/DVD-player. The -hda harddisk.img means it will use the file
harddisk.img as a hard disk drive (duh) which we are going to use to install Arch on. To go on, put the ArchLinux CD in your
CD/DVD-player, and run the batch file.
    - INSTALLING ARCH
Installing ArchLinux is pretty straightforward, all you have to do is follow the instructions on the screen. There are a few
points you should keep in mind when installing ArchLinux on an USB drive, though.
        - Don't create too many partitions! When using the 'auto-partitioner', Arch wants you to create seperate partitions for the
/ and the /home folder, I would not recommend doing this if you haven't created a harddisk image of at least 8000M. Because,
quite simply, otherwise you have to distribute the space (just 4000M) between / and /home, and it can be quite difficult to
allocate the right amount of space. Believe me, it IS a problem if you run out of space someday. You can't just create a
bigger harddisk.img file. (Well, technically you can, but that would be a little bit.. difficult for most people.)
        - Don't select too many packages. Assuming you know what you're doing, try to deselect as much as possible (without screwing
up the whole thing, of course) for a very simple reason, you don't have that much space on a simple USB drive.
        - Of course, you don't have to care at all about the above pointers if you have a very large USB drive. Very large here
meaning anything larger than 16GB, so yes, that IS pretty large in my opinion.
    - SETTING UP QEMU, AGAIN
So you've installed Arch on your harddisk image, huh? Well done! In any case, we can't use the qemu-win.bat file anymore,
since we don't want to boot using the CD/DVD-player again. I recommend creating a new batch file in the QEMU folder,
(call it 'arch-hd.bat', or something like that,) and put the following line into it: "qemu.exe -L . -m 512 -boot c -hda
harddisk.img", the only thing that is changed is that we don't use the CD/DVD-player anymore, and that we changed the
it to -boot c which means it will boot from the harddisk image. (Actually isn't so difficult now, is it?)
    - FINAL REMARKS
Now you're ready to go! You've installed ArchLinux on a Virtual Machine on your USB drive, so now the fun can start! One more
thing that I consider VERY important to know is how to mount your physical hard disk in Arch (in QEMU). Knowing this can make
it extremety-much easier to install things on Arch, since you can then simply 'download' the packages from your physical
        hard drive.
To use your physical hard drive in QEMU, add "-hdb \\.\PhysicalDrive0" to the batch-file (arch-hd.bat), this line will assign
your first physical hard drive to /dev/hdb (or /dev/sdb) in Arch. Remember that you still have to mount it! (Someting that can
be done    by writing "mount -t ntfs /dev/hdb1 /mnt/" in the terminal. Assuming your first hard drive uses the NTFS-format, and
the main partitions is /dev/hdb1, this should put all files and filders in /mnt/. It is possible that your partition is called
/dev/sdb1, in that case simply replace hdb1 with sdb1.)
Please keep in mind that there are many, many more parameters you can use in QEMU, so reading the documentation will probably
be a very good thing. You never know, you MIGHT even learn something!
    - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
        Q. When configuring the system in the ArchLinux installer, it just stopped doing anything when it was saving the configuration
        files! Did it somehow crash?
        A. No, this is normal. For some reason (called 'writing speed'), this just takes time. Much time. Lots of time. This is the real
        test of patience.
        Q. How do I get support for sound/video card/networking/etc. in QEMU?
        A. Read the documentation!
        Q. Help! QEMU crashed when I tried to run the .bat file!
        A. Check whether you are using the exact same .bat file as given in the instructions. If it still doesn't work, contact me and
I will try to solve your problem if you provide me with enough information about it. (So sending me a message containing
something like "Help! QEMU doesn't work on my PC!" will probably not get you much of a useful response.)

thank you, quite useful. btw i had to use qemu 0.9.0 for installation - somehow i was unable to make 1.5.50 boot (from neither iso nor physical cdrom). but then i had to switch back to the newer version because i was getting a lot of libata2 exception messages on console. also, i had to update UUID for some reason in grub.cfg. performancewise it's not very fast but it fits my needs. i am using the following command to start my qemu archbox: qemu-system-i386.exe -boot c -hda harddisk.img -net nic, model=virtio -net user -redir tcp:5555::22 and then i can connect using putty on my local port 5555. the good thing about this is that you really don't need admin rights.

  • Windows XP, will not load past blue error screen

Hi, been wondering for a while if anyone can help me...
My xp system will not load past the blue error screen which appears after the computer has shut down suddenly or improperly.
Regardless of what actions you choose to take (safe mode, most recent settings...etc) the system simply goes past the blue screen, onto the windows logo loading page, where the loading bar moves for around 10 seconds, before returning back to the blue loading page.
So far I have tried leaving the computer for as long as a month unused whilst I was abroad, removing the battery for various amounts of time, and leaving the computer running for as long as a day.
In the absence of a recovery disk, I have no idea how to get it back to form, and would welcome any hints or suggests, bearing in mind I am no computing genius (If you had'nt guessed). Preferably, without loosing my irreplacable pictures and videos stored on the hard drive, however that is only preferably,
    Thanks, Jay

    Hi Jay,
i know what it's like to not able to boot even into safe mode command prompt.
In your case I would do either of below:
Download a bootable CD ISO called "HDD Regenerator" or [Hiren's BootCD|www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd] which includes many other great tools. Burn the ISO image onto CDR.
    1. Use the HDD Regenerator to boot the PC and use it to scan the whole HardDrive from 0, it will scan and fix all the bad sectors which may cause Windows failing to boot as systems files are corrupted. You will be suprise how great this tool can fix bad sector HDs.
    2. If above does not work, the the Hiren's BootCD to boot the PC, navigate to Symantec Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image to Clone you hard drive, you can use USB external harddrives.
Then you can rebuild the PC with second partition large enough to store the HardDisk-IMAGE, use Ghost Explorer/etc to restore your personal files.
I have been dealing with lots of this issues as well. Let me know if you need more help.
    Good luck!

  • Lightroom 4.3 corrupts my RAW images stored on local SSD harddisk

Using Lightroom 4.3 with Camera RAW 7.3 on latest MacBook Pro with 256 GB SSD harddisk, 8 GB internal memory bought 2 months ago. Hardware shows no other problems or malfunctioning, no issues with RAM or otherwise.
Started Lightroom 4.3 did an import from perfect images (viewed before using various other software packages) stored on the harddisk. Used option ADD to add to the catalog. Almost immediately certain images were showing missing areas or areas with pink/white stripes, etc.
I didn't even touch the images to view or edit them. The images were corrupted on disk as previewing them with other software packages showed.

That is not so true. Hard disk, ram, cpu, ..., - all play a continuing role.

A proprietary raw file is any raw file that is not DNG. The distinction is important because:
    * Proprietary raws can not be corrupted by Lightroom (that statement has 99.999999999999% probability of being true, in the context discussed so far).
    * DNGs on the other hand, are, in some circumstances, completely re-written, and can, therefore, be corrupted on Lr's watch (due to hardware failure). Granted, if such failure does occur, Lr is able to give a fairly clear & unambiguous message, since it keeps check codes for raw data integrity assurance. Note: such protection assumes the image was good when initially converted to DNG, and went bad after-ward - which is not necessarily the case: thus a good reason to visually inspect all images after conversion to DNG.

I am a bit confused why a calibration file would get off-balance after some time? You need to recalibrate the display once in while, but that's because the display is changing.
I can understand Lightroom has problems with a corrupted profile, but how can it get corrupted as I would assume it is only read (not written) and why is Photoshop not having these issues?
My focus is now on recalibration of display to rule out that item
Not my area of expertise. However, in general, if you're having uncaught disk or hardware problems, or even software bugs, files can become corrupted - not just image files.
PS - Did the Mac/HW test include the drive where photos are stored?

I just wanted to back up my photos since I haven't done so since October 5th. I plugged in my iPhone and let Image Capture transfer the selected photos to the designated folder. Accidently I hit 'Import All but that's not the biggest problem. Apparently I had "Delete all after transfer" on AND 427 photos apparently "failed to transfer" as it said. I didn't think it was such a big problem, but then I noticed : what the ****.The delete all option was ON and now ALL my photos are gone, from the iPhone and NOT on the computer. Except a list of some old pictures I already have three backups and from the new ones between Oct 5 and this day I have a random selection >><!!!
So please help me! How do I get my pictures back? iPhone Data recovery? Please please help. There are so many nice memories of this month and I'm so ****** that this just happened!

If you have iCloud backup turned on or if you have recently backed up via iTunes you could restore the phone from either of those sources. Camera Roll photos are included in those backups. Be aware that doing a restore will replace the contents of the phone with the contents of the backup so you would lose anything new on the phone since the last backup. • How to embed an image in swf at run time?

    Hi all,
I have created an Image component in flash which is having a "imageSource" paramter, where in a user can provide the path of his/her image(both from web or from  harddisk). I want that image to be compiled with the swf. how can i do that?......any help will be greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    Roopesh

    Hi kglad,
Thanks alot for your quick reply.
well I have created such a custome component, which user can drag on stage and configure accordingly. If a user provides the path of a image which is on server, things works fine as when i deploy my swf to server it fetches the image properly but if a user provides the path of a image which is present locally on hardisk, image is not loaded when the swf is deployed to server as the path provided is local . So i am searching for a solution for resolving this path conflict issue in desgin and deployment phase. one probable solution is, if the images gets embedded with swf but embedding is not possible at run time. Do you have any other solution for this?

  • Application copied from disk image not recognised as correct arch by Finder

    Hi,
occasionally, when I download a disk image ".dmg" that contains an application bundle ".app", I can run the application from the Finder by double-clicking on the icon of the application on the disk image, but when I copy the application to my harddisk, either with the Finder or with "cp -rP", and try to start the copy, the Finder gives me "You can't open the application xyz because it is not supported on this architecture".
However the size of the application bundle, as measured with "du(1)" did not change, and sure enough the copy works just fine when I directly launch the application binary from the shell... The latest example of this behaviour was with the supertuxkart-0.6.1a-full-osx.dmg that I just downloaded.
Anybody seen something similar and/or know what causes this strange behaviour?

I have had a similar problem simply making a copy of a .app file. I spoke with Apple support about it and they said this is the desired behaviour when the application is not a universal application.
You can check by opening the info window for the application and seeing if it says Universal next to Application in the Kind field.
If it says Universal, it should copy without problem, if not, then it won't. Apple support wasn't able to give me a clear reason as to why this is, though.

  • I have downloaded Adobe Photoshop digitally but when i activated adobe I keep getting this error message Adobe Premiere Elements.exe - NO DISK. There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive/device/harddisk/dr1

I have downloaded Adobe Photoshop digitally but when I activated adobe I keep getting this error message Adobe Premiere.exe - NO DISK - There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive/device/harddisk/DR1

It sounds like you downloaded the wrong application, namely Adobe Premiere Elements.
If you meant Adobe Photoshop Elements, you're in the wrong forum.  This is not the Elements forum.
Here's the link to the forum you want:

If you mean Photoshop proper, since you are posting in the Photoshop forum, give version details and your system specs.
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Automatic creation of image

    Hello,
As I'm preparing for my Powerbook to arrive with a fresh new harddrive, I've decided to not have my data lost again. What I will do is copy my userhome to an external drive every day and once a week make a full image of the entire harddisk to that same external drive.
I'm sure I'll figure out the copying bit. There are dozens of tools out there to do it for me (although I've found to be rather disappointing, only Apple Backup seems to be really worth while - but I have no need for a .mac account so that option is out).
However, the automatic making of an image is something I've never attempted on a Mac. If I insert my Tiger install dvd, I can run Disk Utility and with that make a dmg file which I'm guessing I could restore should something happen to the original drive. However, this requires me to do something and I'd prefer to have this done automatic.
So, what do I do? The system needs to reboot into a different partition, I'm guessing ... which then starts the imaging process. How do I (a) make the system reboot at a specific moment, every week; (b) make it boot from a different partition; (c) how exactly do I have disks automounted (USB connected drive, HFS+ formatted) and (d) how do I have Disk Utility automatically make an image?
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
You have a lot of questions here which I would not be really great at answering, however, there is a great FAQ about backing up that may answer some of your quetitons here:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/backuprecovery.html
Retrospect is an excellent backup too, Backup, apples solution is o.k. for backing up your home folder and for backing up your "iApps". (itunes, iMovier and such), but is not a comprehensive solution.
You can use Disk Utility for some backups. A lot of folks use programs that will clone their hard drive to another, Programs such as Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner are designed to do just that.
If you plan on copying to a USB drive a couple of things to remember. First it is going to be a bit slower than using a Firewire drive. Second, you cannot boot from a USB drive.
Some of the automation could be accomplished using Automator, the built in tool provided by Apple with 10.4. I have never used it but have read some articles about it and it could handle the automation task for you, I think. You might check and see if there is a ready made script available from Apple.
Hope it all gets worked out,I applaud your desire to have a backup system. The most important thing about any backup system is ti use it!

  • Windows (8.1) could not find back up devices while creating a system image (0x80070003)

I am trying to create a system image backup under Windows 8.1 Windows Backup is unable to find a backup device with error (0x80070003). No drives are shown under "On a hard disk" and select <Refresh> gives the same error.
A LaCie 1Tb external harddisk is connected to the PC and formatted as an NTFS drive. The hard disk is visable under Harddisk Management and shows up under Explorer mapped as Drive D:
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
As you mentioned, the Drive D is mapped from your external harddrive. How did you connect this hard drive into this computer?
If it was connected via network, Please choose "On a network location" and locate the harddrive to check the results.

  • Can't drag disk icon in Disk Utility to restore backup image

I'm restoring my MacBook from a backup image I made on my external HD with SuperDuper! and I've run into a big problem. I've booted from my OS X CD. I'm in Disk Utility, and while my external drive mounts and I can select the image in the 'restore' pane, I can't for the life of me drag any icon to the 'destination' field. Any help with this?

    Hi
I have exactly the same problem,i backed up my internal HD, and want to restore it by starting my mac mini intel single core with the original delivered os dvd including diskutilities. But no way it is not possible to drag a volume or partition to the required field to the left.I called apple support and the guy did not understand what I'm talking about at all, and told me he will forward to the developer dep.
Never mind, I recovered the mac mini intel with ccc , thanks God I did an image backup and a ccc !
Yesterday my mac mini intel audio hardware has broken, so I have to do another bkp with booted up os dvd to bring in to a serviceprovider.
Tried to recover for security issues , but disk utilitiy did not work again , no drag 'n' drop possible - this problem never exists under powermac before and its driving me mad under intel macs
I did a trick to show thats it is definitely the revision of this os dvd and disk utilities (x86 intel rev.)
I did a clean install form this os dvd, then cloned the interal harddisk to a external firewire disk making it bootable (using ccc for all)
I did no software update just clean from the dvd, restarted , choosed external firewire harddisk, et voila - opened disk utilitiy to restore dmg image for the internal hd and drag 'n' drop works without problems!!
    Resumee:
my delivered os dvd 10.4.5 AHT vesrion 3A102 disc version 1.0 2Z691-5738-A has the biggest bug of all, it can not recover a backed up image at all - that is a revision e.g. release bug (error).
I will have to return this dvd !
