No hdmi port with this laptop?

Only some laptops HDMI ports - of current models, the MacBook Pros do and the Macbook Airs don't. You can get adaptors from Thunderbolt (or Displayport on an older laptop, the plug is physically the same) to HDMI: for example this one.

At wits end trying to set up router with this laptop!

I am very frustrated trying to setup any router with this laptop.
I am also trying to run a wired G3 beige (OS 9.1) ethernet connection.
I have tried both a Airport Extreme and a Netgear WGR614. Both of these routers have worked in the past, but not now!
Once in a while I can achieve connectivity through the router, but nothing consistent.
The internet connection works just fine when the router is removed from the network.
I am well aware that the problem maybe some very simple setting or sequence of operations in configuring the network - but I am very much out of ideas, inspiration, and patience.
1.Does anybody have any ideas?
2.Does anybody know of a complete idiots' guide to setting up these routers? (Netgear is NO help)
3.Is there anything inherently wrong about trying to run a wired G3 with OS 9 and a wireless G4 with OS 10.4 from the same router?

I would take a close look at possible radio interference, from nearby routers, cordless telephones, microwave ovens, and so on. If 2 routers worked before and now do not, this says something. Have a friend with a wireless laptop try your signal.
Generally, routers can be default configured and work, although they'll be totally unsecure, which is dangerous. There should be no issues with having an OS9 and OSX computers using the router. Sorry, router settings take a while to learn and are a little different for each brand. Intermittent operation isn't typical of any setting that I know of, WITH THE EXCEPTION that selecting other radio channels sometimes helps.
As the Rabbit mentions, your computer could have a flaw, so you have to test this by having another wireless user try your signal.
BTW, I have encountered a consistent problem through the last few OSs of my Airport reception working fine mostly, then suddenly dying with no indication (other than the net stops working). I have to turn Airport off, then on again to get it working again. This is so annoying, I generally use ethernet now.

Having a bit of a nightmare with this laptop i have bought

Hey, so i bought a second hand macbook pro 15 inch 2009 yesterday, it is to act as a sister computer to my imac for producing music on
The guy who sold it to me sold me it with mountain lion on and final cut and some other programmes, however i didn't want mountain lion as i know a lot of my third party plug ins are not yet updated to work with it
I want to have just lion on this laptop, so i have restored it, by using the original install disks back to its original state (i did do a time machine back up to a third party hard drive for future reference)
However this laptop is now not letting me go past OSX 10.5.8, im guessing you had to buy 10.6? however i have already purchased lion on my imac and this computer was updated to mountain lion, does anybody know of a way i can get this laptop updated without forking out a lot of money? i want to achieve it to lion (which i have already purchased and is a downgrade from the operating system it was on), when i typed in the 10.6.0 software a lot of torrents came up, which i definately do not want to use,

i know you say it is only $19, is this a discounted rate for the US? i am in the UK and i am looking on amazon some of the prices are £49-89 which seems a little steep?
Also, can i just ask, my desktop imac is currently running lion, i am considering upgrading that to mountain lion eventually when i know my plug ins work, with this macbook pro i ran a time capsule back up on it to a third party external hard drive, as the guy sold it with final cut, office and some other software, when i ran the was running the restore i tried to boot it from the time capsule just to see what happend and i got an error message like 'the operating system from time capsule is newer than this computer please update it'
If i was to upgrade my imac to mountain lion, and restore it with the time capsule i burnt from this laptop on the external hard drive, will this work and put the software etc. on to my imac? or will it cause a horrible mess?

I've had it with this laptop! (MSI GS 60)

I'd like to express my complete disappointment in this $1800 laptop which is only a few months old and is failing badly. The wifi has never worked properly - sometimes it can connect, other times it can't. Eventually it stopped working all together. So I was forced to buy an external one out of pocket. Then, the bluetooth fails. Great. Over the past few weeks, the screen has been slowly giving out, turning off at random times, sometimes not coming back on or just flickering black and white, forcing me to use it with an external monitor. Not quite what you want with a laptop. Support from this company is absolutely horrible. How on EARTH do they expect for us to send a laptop, which for me is my main computer also for work, for SIX WEEKS to get repaired? This is the estimate I was given, and according to them the only option available. Simply dreadful. I would not recommend buying an MSI laptop to anyone.

I am having the same problems with the wifi. When playing a game on wifi, the ping jumps to a crazy 500+. When im using an old laptop 4 years older then this, no problem whatsoever. The only fix is to directly connect with ethernet but i like to play in different areas without always having to hook up. This is the main reason i got a laptop

I would like to view the output from my DSLR on the screen of my macbook using the hdmi port. I know I can connect to a tv to send images "out" from my macbook, but is it possible ti send images in?? I operate my camera by remote control, and would really live a live view if possible.

Nope - you can only output video from your MBP - there's not a port for input.

TV screen flickers after connecting to HDMI cable with DV6 laptop

When i connect my ps3 to samsung LCD tv it works completely fine.  But When i connect my hp laptop to same tv. The screen start's to fliker after 2-3 mins. Tried different refesh rate's and resolutions. didn't work for me . Also updated my display driver but still same problem.  Many suggested that HDMI cable might be the problem. But if cable is problem how is it working with ps3 connected to same tv.  Help. PLZ

I understand that when you connect your TV to your HP laptop via HDMI the TV screen flickers. If you connect the TV to your PS3 it does not. You have tried different refresh rates and resolutions but there was no change. Your notebook has HDMI version 1.4 supporting up to 1920 ×1200 @ 60Hz as stated in the maintenance and service guide. Please note chapter 1 page 9 under Ports. HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide Have you ran the HP Support Assistant to try and obtain any HP updates? Have you done all your Windows updates? You can also manually check the HP Drivers & Downloads   page. You will need to input your exact model and follow the prompts to display your recommended software and drivers. Please note HP is doing some updates to their web site and you may need to try later to access the page. You could try a different HDMI cable just to rule that out. Why did I lose all of my music when my Ipod synced with my laptop? I have synced it with this laptop several times.

Using Thunderbolt Display with Alienware Laptop

I want to also use my thunderbolt display with a m18x alienware laptop which has HDMI out and a mini display port. Is there any way I can use this display with this laptop either directly or with an adapter?

I don't think so, as far as I am aware the connection between the system and the Thunderbolt display has to be a thunderbolt connection. There are reports that even pre-Thunderbolt Mac systems with a mini-display port don't work.

HDMI port of my MBPr showing under scan on monitor

Dear all,
At my mothers' place I connected my MBPr with the television. Te make the visuals better, I slides the bar for a little under scan. I connected using the HDMI port on the laptop.
Back at home, when I connect to my external display with my HDMI port, it is again under scanning (I am seeing black borders around the screen). I cannot change this on the monitor itself. BUT when I connect using my thunderbolt port, I do not see the under scanning.
Some things:
I tried replacing the window server.plist with an older version, one before I got to my mothers' place, but that didn't work
I also got back to my mothers' place, changed the under scan in the settings when connected to the TV, but back at home it is still underscanning
The resolution in the display settings is good, I checked.
So is there any way to get this fixed. It is really annoying to keep using the thunderbolt port when I have an HDMI port.

HDMI Port Problem

I have a HP Envy dv7 running Windows 8.1 and until recently my HDMI connection to the various TV sets in my home has been ok. But recently problems have been occurring. The TV screen flickers badly, audio problems and sometimes it says No Signal. I have used several differnet HDMI cables so i know it is not the cable, it can only be the HDMI port I believe. I don't think it is wear and tear as the Laptop is only about 16 months old, but if it is cannot the port be replaced?

I understand the HDMI port appears to be faulty, as indicated by your descriptive post. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the individual HDMI port on this model, as indicated by the product's maintenance and service guide.
