No login manager is working after fresh installation

after a fresh install and reboot, the bootmessage on tty1 says:

and hangs up...
i installed xorg (all) and lxde (all), but none of the loginmanagers (i have uninstalled lxdm and installed slim, afterwards lightdm) works.
I have enabled the slim.service or lightdm.service after i installed the package.
My videocard is an ATI hd 4650 which should be supported by the xf86-video-ati package.
Booting with normal bios from a Debian partition with grub.
Right now i am writing from my other linux partition.
I dont know what is wrong, can anybody help?

  • Oracle password won't work after fresh installation

I've just installed 10g and tried to connect to SQL*PLUS and EM. I have the default password as oracle and username oracle on the system. No idea why I can't log in since Oracle never gave me the option on the basic installation.
    Any ideas?

There is no default password in 10g.
You should use the password you specified during installation, if you don't remember try the following from your command line.

  • Oracle 10g RMAN is not working in RHEL 4 after fresh installation

I downloaded Oracle 10g R2 from OTN at home for self study.
I have problem with the RMAN after fresh installation Oracle 10g in RedHat Enterprise Linux AS 4. (x86)
Everything seems works fine, database mounted including EM, SQLPlus, iSQLPlus etc.
But when I attempt to execute RMAN command on the terminal, nothing is happening. No RMAN prompt, No error message!
I ran the "relink all" command but no helps.
    Please advice.

I guess you are a common Linux 'victim', you don't invoke Oracle's rman, but a Linux executable:
    http://linux.about.com/cs/linux101/g/rman.htm
Check your PATH variable, you may move $ORACLE_HOME/bin to the top.

  • Ciscowork 3.2.1 daemon manager is not working after patch installation

    Hi Team
Ciscowork 3.2.1 daemon manager is not working after patch installation.
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>net start crmdmgtd
The CiscoWorks Daemon Manager service is starting.
The CiscoWorks Daemon Manager service could not be started.
The service did not report an error.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534.
Also I checked syslog.log and it is showing below error
    an 17 14:39:34 127.0.0.1 100: <28>   dmgt[1316]: 2507(W):Daemon manager anonymous user has not been set up: 00000569
    Please suggest.
    With Regards,
    neena

During installation, an user casuser is created with certian security settings and if those are modified\removed, DM will not start.
Following message will be seen in /log/syslog.log
Daemon manager anonymous user has not been set up: 00000775
To solve the issue, run resetcasuser.exe located under /setup.support  to  recreate the settings.
Make sure casuser account is not locked out. Make sure casuser is a member of casusers group and is set to "password never expires".
Additionally you can try to make casuser a member of adiministrators group.
    -Thanks

    Neena,
Check the properties of casuser under Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users and make sure it is not disabled or locked out.  The only thing checked should be "Password never expires".  Change anything required and reset casuser.

I hate it when updates break things instead of fixing them. Can't Mozilla leave well enough alone? At the very least, each new release should be tested so it works with ALL PREVIOUS extensions!
Wait till you "update" to firefox 4 and EVERYthing breaks, including the buttons that come with it. There is no arrow next to the dropdown button, right clicking the tab bar doesn't bring up the correct menu, but one as though it were the menu bar (which is missing) and the information bar is missing. True, it's fast, but you'll spend weeks getting it to work properly.

iMessage doesn't work after the installation of the update 5.1

I am unsure whether my issue relates to updating to OS5.1 but seems coincidental that I have only had the problem for the last few days since updating.
I can use iMessage without a problem although some messages are delayed in being sent or received recently. However, I can no longer send MMS picture messages. I have spoken to my provider who has been through all their relevant settings checks. I have restarted the phone (iPhone 3GS), I have tried turning off iMessage to send MMS but still nothing works.
I've had no issue sending MMS picture messages since owning the phone right up until a few days ago.
Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions on anything else I can try please?
    Thanks

  • U410 running really slow even after fresh installation

I bought an ideapad u410 a little over an year ago. It came pre loaded with windows 8. It had been running slow for some time. The machine would almost take 10 mins to boot up. Any time i try to access something for the first time, it would take almost 10 mins for it to open, be it files, file explorer, web browser, media file or any installed app or program. Once it opened if i tried accessing a second time, it didnt take long. I installed the lenovo solution centre and did a hardware scan to see if there is an issue with the hard disk or RAM or any other hardware. The scan came out clean with all the hardware tests passed.
I made a recovery disk and then reset the pc to get s fresh installation of the windows. I reset the system from PC settings. After getting a fresh installation when the problem persisted i reset the pc using the recovery disk. The recovery process took 30 hours to finish but that didnt solve the problem. When i tried to reset again it said that there is a partition error and partition could not be found. So i cleaned the hard drive using diskpart, made a primary partition and the. N formatted the HDD. When i tried to install windows 8 using recovery usb it says that it cant find active partition. So then i installed a copy of windows 7 which was very slow and took almost 3 hours to install. After installing windows 7 my laptop is still running very slow and it takes at least 5 minutes for me to access any file or to even right click and refresh the desktop.
How do i resolve this issue and how can i get a clean installation of the pre loaded windows 8 which i am not able to install from the recovery disk. In the beginning there was one drive of 1TB on which i created more partition to get 1 drive of 450 GB and another 200 GB using the default windows disk manager. Could this have led to the issue of the Laptop slowing down?

You might want to check the ssd cache by following the command shown in the picture.

  • Spotlight not working after fresh install of Mac OS X

    Hi,
I have erased and installed the Mac OS X on my powerbook and spotlight is not working. I have tried almost all the solutions provided on the forum.
I have tried adding the root drive to the privacy section of the spotlight preferences but it doesn't list the drive at all.
I have tried using spotless, Yasu, Cache out X, deleted the spotlight.plist file
Nothing works! It should be working after a fresh install. My computer just came back after a hard drive replacement and the spotlight wasn't working even then. I thought a fresh install of the OS would help, but can't get it to work.
Can anynody suggest anything? Your help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Aditya

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply and the link.
I re-installed the OS again! This time using the UNIX file system setting during installation. Then when I booted my computer, Spotlight worked like a dream. But then I connected my external firewire hard disk and it stopped working!
Is there a work around for this, can I get spotlight to work again?
    Thanks,
    Aditya

  • Trying to start up the manager process in a fresh installation

    Version 11.2.1.0.3
    Platform : RHEL 5.4
To configure manager process in a machine (which is going to be a target server ), I downloaded GG installer from edelivery.
Unzipped the installable in the desired location. Then I created a basic parameter file for the manager and tried to start up the manager process. But the manager process is not coming up.
This is what I've done till now after the installation of GG (By installation , I mean Unzipping and Untarring)
    1. set the env variables for the database
    2. Created the parameter file for manager as shown below.
    $ ./ggsci
Oracle GoldenGate Command Interpreter for Oracle
    Version 11.2.1.0.3 14400833 OGGCORE_11.2.1.0.3_PLATFORMS_120823.1258_FBO

    GGSCI (stryker179) 1> info mgr
    Manager is DOWN!
GGSCI (stryker179) 4> view param mgr
    port 7809
    purgeoldextracts /u04/ggData/dirdat/MS/*, usecheckpoints
    dynamicportlist 7840-7849
    GGSCI (stryker179) 2> start mgr
    Manager started.
    GGSCI (stryker179) 3> info mgr
Manager is DOWN!I haven't created any gguser at DB level. But that is not a pre-requisite for manager process. Right ?
-- Regarding the logging of GG's errors
Wish I could check some logs to see what is causing this issue ?
Where are the logs (.rpt files) stored ? I believe we have to manually create a directory called dirrpt.
For , the fresh installation, the dirrpt directory was not created. Only the following directories were found after the installation (Untar)
    $ ls -alrdFt * | grep /
    drwxr-x--- 7 oracle oinstall      4096 Aug 24 07:06 UserExitExamples/
    drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall      4096 Aug 24 07:33 cfg/
    drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall      4096 Aug 24 07:33 dirprm/
    drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall      4096 Aug 24 07:33 dirjar/

    Hi ,
    1. Did you execute CREATE SUBDIRS in GGSCI prompt?
It will create all the required folders like dirprm,dirrpt,dirdef,dirsql,dirdat...etc
Db level user is not required for starting the manager process, But you have to create mgr parameter file under dirprm folder , for that you have to execute ,
    GGSCI > EDIT PARAMS MGR
in that file mention the PORT number , usually it will be 7809 ex, PORT 7809,
then start the mgr in GGSCI
    GGSCI > START MGR
again if you are getting MANAGER DOWN message then check the details in ggserr.log file which is available in GG home directory where you have unzipped the binaries .
    Hopefully this will help you
    Annamalai.

  • Root device cannot be found after fresh installation

I just made a fresh installation on my lenovo y500. Everything went well. I rebooted (without the usb), and I get the error:
"ERROR: device '/dev/sdc2' not found. Skipping fsck.
Error: Unable to find root device '/dev/sdc2"
I figured I must have goofed somewhere in the installation process, so I thought I'd just boot back into my live USB and start all over, but now the USB is not being detected whatsoever.
When I open my BIOS, I can't change my boot priorities to USB because the option isn't even present anymore. It's as if the USB isn't recognized.
When I try to boot into my (apparently broken) arch installation, I get dropped to a recovery shell after the error. Is there anything I can do in this?
I don't want to make a whole other LiveUSB because the only machines I have left to make it are windows. And I'm windows retarded...
I have already done the following:
    1. Ensured that secure boot is disabled
    2. Enabled USB Boot (However it doesn't show up in my bootable devices. Only see HDD Device and Linux Boot Manager. Both bring me to the same error)
    3. Moved my USB stick to different ports. Still not able to be detected as a bootable device
    4. Booted into recovery mode. It brings me to the same error.
Would switching my boot mode to legacy help at all? I'd rather not even try because I just don't even see how it could help.root device not found arch post installatin
This is not a dual installation. It's a clean installation because I didn't want any silly boot errors (just my luck, I guess).
Gummiboot was my chosen bootloader during installation. I only had 2 partitions made a root partition 'sdc2' and the efi partition 'sdc1' which was formatted and created with the ef00 esp code
No notable errors arose during installation and I unmounted everything before I rebooted. I am truly at my wit's end...

lknows wrote:2. /dev/sdc was the planned installation location (if that's what you're asking) When I booted into the live usb, the usb was named sda, and the command [ fdisk -l ] didn't reveal any sdb location at all.
No wonder your bootloader's not finding anything. /dev/sdc was the right installation point when you were running the LiveUSB, but it isn't the right mount point when actually booting from the machine.
Find the bootloader settings of the actual installation (inside the /boot folder) and change the /dev/sdc to either /dev/sdb or /dev/sda and then try booting in again (I suggest /dev/sdb first).
I use UUIDs with GRUB, and you can probably do something similar with gummboot. I do it so I avoid being unable to boot when my internal hard disk (I only have one) isn't recognised as /dev/sda.

  • Some Java applets do not work after silent installation, solved by toggling "Enable Java content in the browser" - Why?

We have about 1,800 workstations running Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) running various versions of the Java JRE from 6 update 32 through 7 update 51.  Most are on 6 update 45.  We would like to standardize on Java 7 update 51 (32-bit) and get everyone updated to that version for security reasons.
For the past two weeks, we have been having trouble with our installation pre-pilot.  What we are seeing is that our procedure successfully closes any open Internet Explorer windows and Java-related processes, uninstalls all old versions of the Java JRE, and then claims to have successfully installed Java 7 update 51.  The Java Control panel works.  We can even take Internet Explorer to Verify Java Version or Java Tester - What Version of Java Are You Running? and confirm that the Java applets on those sites are loading (though the latter only works after adding the site to the exceptions site list); however, when testers try to access our Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10 system, the Java applets used by that system do not load.
We have tried the following things, none of which worked:
Clear Internet Explorer browser cache and cookies.
    Clear the local Java cache.
    Reboot the computer.
Reset Internet Explorer settings, including personal settings.
The one thing which does work is going into the Java Control Panel, going to the Security tab, unchecking "Enable Java content in the browser", pressing Apply, pressing OK on the pop-up window, checking the "Enable Java content in the browser" box again, pressing OK, pressing OK on the pop-up window, and then restarting Internet Explorer.  It is only after this point that all Java applets, including the ones used by Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10, work.
What I need to know is how I can automate the procedure of reinitializing the "Enable Java content in the browser" checkbox after installation or am I doing something wrong or missing a step in the automated installation that is causing this to happen?
We are using Microsoft SCCM 2007 R3 to accomplish this upgrade, and everything is being run on the client machine using the SYSTEM account.  First, the PowerShell script "javaclean.ps1" is run, with part of the command-line process changing the PowerShell script execution policy to Bypass.  This script handles the closing of Java-dependent applications and Java processes and uninstalls old Java versions.
    javaclean.ps1:
#Find all Java products excluding the auto updater which actually gets uninstalled when the main install is removed.
write-host "Searching for all installed Java versions" -ForegroundColor Yellow

    if ($javas.count -gt 0)
write-host "Java is already Installed" -ForegroundColor Yellow
#Get all the Java processes and kill them. If java is running and the processes aren't killed then this script will invoke a sudden reboot.
        [array]$processes=Get-Process -Name "Java*" #-erroraction silentlycontinue
        $processes += Get-Process -Name "iexplore" #-erroraction silentlycontinue

        $processes += Get-Process -Name "jp2launcher" #-erroraction silentlycontinue
        if ($processes.Count -gt 0)
            foreach ($myprocess in $processes)
                $myprocess.kill()
#Loop through the installed Java products.
        foreach($java in $javas){
            write-host "Uninstalling "$java.name -ForegroundColor Yellow
            $java.Uninstall()
After this script is complete, SCCM calls a the VBS script "install.vbs" to perform the actual installation of Java JRE 7 update 51.

Help on this issue would be much appreciated!

It turns out that this is actually a problem with Kronos Workforce Central.  We had the "site.java.plugin.CLSID.familyVersion" setting in that application set to "clsid:CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA", which is the Java CLSID for Java 6.  After updating this value to "clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" (the Java universal CLSID), this problem did not occur upon the automatic upgrade of Java.
We have both Java 6 and Java 7 in our environment, and did during our Kronos implementation, so I don't know why we were using the Java 6 CLSID in the first place.
    Case closed!

  • T61 sound not working after re-installation

    Hi,
I am re-installing Windows XP Pro SP2 on several laptops.
I have an issue with some T61.
The installation of the driver (found on Lenovo website) is successful.
Windows displays the sound icon, I can open it and change the volume but I can't hear any sound.
I am sure it was working fine before re-installation.
    I have tried two ways:
    - installing KB888111, then sound driver
    - installing SP3, then sound driver
    But none is working.
Do you have an idea of anything I could have missed?
Where can I get previous versions of the drivers?
    Thank you.
    Solved!

    Solved.
The computer was on mute after re-installation and the button above the keyboard wasn't working properly (I had to press really hard).
    Thank you.

  • [SOLVED] Several problems after fresh installation

    Hi guys,
i just did a fresh installation of arch and every times i must do something i get this error:
cannot remove, read, edit and etc : read-only file system
So i searched for a workaround.. but i must do this after every boot
    This is it:
    mount -oremount,rw /
There's a way to fix this forever?
Often when i need to edit some files, like /etc/pacman.conf or xorg config file, arch tell me: You do not have write permission to modify... that file
Searched another workaround.. and also this i must do every time after each boot:
sudo chown -R black /directory of file that i'm trying to edit/
I hope to fix this annoying problems, with your help.
    Thanks guys,
    Gabriele.

    Ok guys,
think solved by change my /sda6/ (root) by /mnt to / and adding a slash / before home, boot, var.
Rebooted and try to edit the same file /etc/fstab and no warnings
    Now is like this:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir>     <type>     <options>                <dump>    <pass>
    tmpfs                    /tmp        tmps        nodev,nosuid             0                0
    #UUID=blablablabla
    /dev/sda6                  /             ext4                  rw,relatime           0   1
    #UUID=blablabla
    /dev/sda9                  /home            ext4                 rw,relatime            0   2
    #UUID=blablabla
    /dev/sda5                  /boot              ext2                 rw,relatime             0   2
    #UUID=blablabla
    /dev/sda7                  /var                 reiserfs            rw,relatime             0   2
    #UUID=blablabla
    /dev/sda8                  none              swap                defaults                  0   0
Thanks to everyone i also fixed my 2nd problem that i think is related to the first
