No more cd dvd fl folders under /media

I no longer have the cd dvd and fl folders under my /media.
I do not know which update borked it but at first I thought it would only show up once a cd or dvd was put in the drive. But no, even after putting a CD in or a floppy in, I still don't get the folders. Now I have no way of accessing the media.
Can someone confirm if they still have those folders under /media? If not, then I probably need to create some udev rules, but if you do have the folders, then maybe its something else that is wrong with my system.

Same here...
But when I mount CD or whatever I get the folder with it's name and not CD or DVD or whatever...
I don't know about you, but I'm using KDE and had problems with HAL and mounting because of these missing folders.

  • Playing DVD's using Windows Media Player

I've been trying to play dvd's that I've made or bought in both my Dell Inspiron labtop and my Dell 8250 pc and they won't play right. It doesn't matter if it's a music or movie. I downloaded a nvidia video decoder for my pc.......no go! The only thing that seems to work better than anything that I've tried is to download the VLC media player. The play there isn't bad, but I was told by the geek squad that I may need some more memory? All my drivers on both computers are up to date so what gives. If I try to play any dvd in media player without the vlc the audio/video is jumpy and distorted. I've been therefore using the vlc...........it was FREE! I've read in a thread that "changing the region" will then auto play when dvd's are inserted. Thanks for all your help!!!!

It sounds like a codec issue with media player. Media player doesn't come with it's own DVD codec, which is needed to play DVD's. You need third party DVD software or codec to play DVD's, like WinDVD, PowerDVD,VLC (free), etc. When DVD codec is installed, Media player will use this to decode the DVD files.
3rd party software usually has a built in utility that loads at start-up and can be configured to auto play DVD's, or........you can use windows auto play feature to automatically plays DVD's when inserted.
Open "My Computer".> Right click you DVD drive> select "properties"> under "Auto Play" tab, select DVD movies, then check "select an action to perform", Highlight the program you want to play you DVD movies, then click ok.

  • How do I organize photos in DVD size folders, by topic, by date, etc?  I plan to set up a new archive on an external hard drive (1 TB) for about 7500 photos.  Some from a series of XP files, the rest from iPhoto.  I use iPhoto11 on Lion with a 2011 MacBoo

I need to know several answers, and I don't feel I can do it without the basic folder system.  Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.  How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?  I have been using computers for 20+ years for photos, and have scanned some on Windows and transferred some but not all that I wish to archive in new compositions, albums, whatever that are not all on iPhoto.  i also am concerned about overflowing my capacity on MacBook Pro 2011.  Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.  Is this my only option?  I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?

Paragraphs help the reader, just saying.
What are you actually trying to do? Why do you need "DVD size" folders if you're creatng an Archive on an external hard drive?
Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.
It makes no difference at all.
How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?
You can export while writing the metadata to the file in most cases.
Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.
HD? Another HD? You use HD there in a way that makes no sense. What's the point of 'DVD size'?
I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?
Does this have any relation to the previous questions? You know you can delete from iPhoto, right?
You're somewhat confused and you need to
    1. Decide what exactly you want to do
    2. Then go about it.
If I understand you correctly - and there's no guarantee that I do -  the easiest thing is to bring all your Photos into iPhoto and do everything from there.
You can have an archive on an external disk, you can sort and select and edit with or via iPhoto

  • 'All Photographs' contains more photos than in folders

All photographs collection contains more photos than in folders - (Using LR 4) There are about 6k more photos that are in my catalog (All Photographs) than what is showing up in my folders below.  All of my photos are located on an external hard drive.  I have them organized by year. So for example, if in LR I click on 'All Photographs' in the library module, I can see hundreds of photos from 2009. I can also see all these photos on my external hard drive under the 2009 folder. However , these photos do not show up under the folders in LR.  I've tried 'synchronizing' my folder in LR, but it thinks all of the photos are duplicates, since they are indeed already in the catalog (just not the folder)

To tell you the truth, this kind of thing is nearly impossible to diagnose across the internet, so I have only a few pieces of advice on how to fix this.
If an entire folder has been copied to the internal drive, and that's where you did the editing, but you'd like to use the copies on the external drive, then right-click on the Folder name and select Update Folder Location and point to the corresponding folder on the external drive.
The other piece of advice I have is kind of trivial ... don't create more duplicates! don't put photos on your internal drive! If you yourself are more organized, then Lightroom will reflect that!
    Good luck

  • Folders under a role displayed for all users

    Hi
I had created a role called Role A and this had two folders unders that named Folder A, Folder B. I assigned this role to User A only.
I logged into the portal as User A, and saw that these two folders were visible, and as I had wanted it.
But when I logged in with the administrator's account too, I noticed that along with Content Administration, User Administration, System Administration, I also had Folder A and Folder B.
I checked the roles for Administrator and Role A has not been assigned.
I dont want this Folder A and Folder B to appear in the admin's account.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Manoj

    Hi
Thanks for your help. Its not a permission issue for that folder, and no other groups are added in Role A.
I guess, like Venkatesh says, it could be the content admin role or super admin role. But surprises me as to what would happen if there were more than 100 folders.
There must be something else to it. I suspect this to be a cache problem, as I had added Role A to Administrator's group and then removed it from there. I will check this and confirm.
    Thanks for all help
    Regards,
    Manoj

  • The folders under my mail disappeared and I can't retrieve them. Also can't make new ones.

I lost my folders under Mail.   Can I retrieve them?  If not, how do I set  up new folders in which to file my mail.

At the moment you can't do it directly in the Mail app. If it's an IMAP type account then you should be able to login to your account on a browser and create them there, and they should then appear in the Mail app. If it's a POP type account then unfortunately you're stuck with what you've got.
If you install iOS 5, which is out on wednesday, then, from http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#more :
Even add and delete mailbox folders on the fly.

  • Folders under Computer-Nautilus

    Hi all,
I tried to create shortcut folders under Computer. I was unable to create one or it won't accept any folders that I created in home when I dragged it over. I googled, but no luck.
I saw Nautilus image. It had Document folder, Music, Video, Pictures, and other essential folders under Computer. Is there a way that I could create one under Computer?
    Thank you
    Rage

Hmm...not sure what the exact issue is from your post so some guesswork below!
If you want more than default folders under "Computer" then I think you're out of luck.
If you want addtional entires in the Nautilus sidebar then you could use WorMzy's suggestion below, or alternatively enter the folder you want to add in Nautilus and "Bookmarks-->Add Bookmark"
However, I guess you might be refering to the standard entries under Computer eg. the "vidoes, music, pictures" you mention...if so then that's because these standard directories are managed by xdg-user-dirs (which you probably already have installed) via configuration in $HOME/.config/user-dirs.dir (which contains a list of all the standard directories and their paths).  Gnome, unlike KDE, doesn't provide a GUI method of configuring these, and even if you create the folders manually I don't think they appear.  As far as I can see (apologies if my uninformed guesswork is entirely off base!) Arch doesn't a) create these for you when you add a user b) doesn't run xdg-user-dirs-update on each login (as some distro's do - see the freedesktop.org page - a google search should do it).
In summary, if you want this to work try loging in as your user and running "xdg-user-dirs-update", this should create the folders if they don't exist and wirte the appropriate configuration.
You may need to log out then in again...not sure.
PS.  I've run into this issue myself before and haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in the Arch wiki...as it affects more than just nautilus eg. tracker and gome-documents don't work without this being set up correctly I've meant to add something about it to the gome wiki page...and failed...suppose I should check it's not documented somewhere obvious first and finally get round to it if not.  EDIT - not sure if this is new or I just missed it...see the 1st section of the arch gnome wiki page for further info.

  • Can you have more than one apple id under the same account

can you have more than one apple id under the same account

Stop using the same Apple ID for iMessage on these devices.  Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive (Receive At in iOS 5), tap the ID shown, sign out, then sign back in using a unique ID for each device.  (Or, just sign out and stop using your Apple ID for iMessage.)

  • My links/folders under "places" on the sidebar are dead, why and how to fix it? Thanks a lot fr help.

I have created several folders under the Places on the sidebar, but they are all dead now. I cannt click them, remove them, or look the files under them. Please help!

To drag an item out of the Sidebar, hold down the command key and just drag it to the Desktop - it will 'whoosh' and disappear from the Sidebar. To add folders, just drag them to the Sidebar.
    Hope this helps.

  • My music is completely messed up: many songs shortened to 3:01, many songs in different versions. Should I delete all and reimport all my purchases? Or is there a more elgant way of cleaning the media center?

I think you should just rebuild your library.
Clear it out, then drag all the song files back in. You'll lose your ratings and playcounts, etc but I don't see what else you can do.

  • Suddenly my email folders are no longer sub folders under my email account

Everything was as usual this morning and now all of a sudden my email folders no longer show as sub folders under my email account. The InBox is in the middle of the other folders and I can NOT find the main account for which all of my folders were listed under.
I really don't know how else to explain this and just hope someone can give me some help.
    Thanks.

If I had just waited for your response I could have saved myself a lot of stress and work.
What you suggested is exactly what I finally found out. I have NO idea how I managed to change that option.
    Thanks.

I am trying to burn my video to a DVD and I get media not present ??

    Just going to add on
    a. Is this a :"it worked before but not now" issue or "it never worked before" issue?
    b. If you did a burn to folder (4.7 GB) for your DVD-VIDEO, does that go to a successful completion?
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Folders under "Photos" on iPod?

I sync my iPhoto Library with my iPod nano, and it works well. In iPhoto, I have organized all my photos in albums inside folders. I have a huge amount og albums which lay in different folders in the iPhoto source list. BUT: When I transfer the photos to my iPod, all the albums are listed under "Photos", and everything is a huge mess because of the lack of the folders I originally had in iPhoto.
Q: Does anybody know how to get folders under "Photos" on the iPod?
    Thanks!
    iBook G412", late 2005   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1,33 GHz, 1 GB RAM

Thanks for answer, although I think you misunderstood the question.
What I want is that the folders (which the albums are in) I make in iPhoto become visible on my iPod. As of now, all the albums are listed under "Photos" on the iPod, and the folders aren't there... This makes everything a mess.
    Got any idea?

  • After a Windows 7 crash I lost all folders under Local Folders on Thunderbird 24.5.0; how can I recover them?

I had a crash on my Windows 7 Home Premium and after that was resolved, all my folders under "Local Folders" in my Thunderbird ver. 24.5.0 disappeared! I have 6 accounts but they were not affected and all my emails are there. However I had many folders under Local Folders with very important business messages, but they are not there anymore. I found one of the main folders in my profile, under "Mail" but it contains only a very few sub-folders. How can I recover these folders and where are they now?

What exactly happened in between the 'crash' and ' that was resolved'?

  • Can't expand the folders under the shared folder in  catalog new analysis?

    Hello All,
When i am trying to create a new Analysis and in the catalog section when i expand the shared folder i can only see one level the folders under neath the shared folders cannot expand the folders under the parent folders. for example i have three main folders under shared folders Finance, Marketing and Customer when i try to expand the finance folder it doesn't expand and when i try to open marketing it expands by it doesn't show anything in those folders but when i try to open the folders directly from home --> catalog--> shared folders--> Finance--> ..... it shows every thing under those folders folders sub folders and all that stuff. I am hoping it is not something to do with permissions because i am able to open here. Please advice

If you do not have an object saved in the folder it will not dispaly the folder when you are in Answers navigating through the folder structure. Ensure you have saved at least one object (Prompt/Report) in the folder.
