No need for MacDrive anymore
I have installed Windows 7 on my Mac as per below, with 50GB storage dedicated to Windows, and 450GB dedicated to Mac.
To my surprise, when I installed bootcamp from my Snow Leopard upgrade DVD, I was able to access and write to my Mac partition (NO MACDRIVE). Also, the latest Nvidia chip driver was installed.
These are two MAJOR updates from Leopard. Am I a one off or is everyone experiencing these glorious advantages to Windows + Snow Leopard combo?
Are you sure you can write to your Mac partition as well? The driver included with Boot Camp allows for read only of HTFS partitions, but it will not write.

That is absolutely incorrect.
Show Hidden Devices=devices that are part of a setup class that is marked as a NoDisplayClass in the registry.
DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 means devices that were physically removed from the computer but whose registry entries were not deleted. Get the difference?
"Show hidden devices" option is there since Windows 2000 and has nothing to do with the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES environment variable. Just because MS screwed up and deleting this functionality, they conclude, "There is no need for it any more" and
continue justifying their abuse of feature deletion in their software. There was a need to see "Non Plug and Play Devices" when any software driver (AV filter driver or any other software driver) installed on the system got corrupt or needed to be
uninstalled manually or when its uninstaller didn't remove it properly.
I am shocked anyone from Microsoft can behave this way. "There is no need". Hey, speak for yourself!!!!! Don't speak for your users when you've just deleted functionality. -
My mindset has been to shoot Raw for high end important works, and go large jpeg for lower end consumer jobs...
I'm wondering, with the advent of being able to process jpegs in Camera Raw, what is the benefit for shooting Raw?
In fact, after using a grey card for a few years, I got an intuitive feel of where to pull sliders and have not even been using the card anymore (though I guess it's nice to have that reference in a photo)
Lastly, you shoot a file, and whethere it is Raw of a preselect jpeg like True Color Mode or whatever the camera default color balance setting are , the sliders will pull to whatever you want to achieve in Camera Raw later, correct? or correct me. thanks.kevin4545 wrote:

You're kidding, right?
How about the ability (in PV 2012 in LR4 and Ps CS6) to control the dynamic range? Shooting a JPEG auto-limits the ability to do highlight recover since by definition, the JPEG has a baked in 8 bit (actually slightly less) rendered image. A raw file allows 12-14 bit of bit depth flexibility...you choose.
It's all very well to try to get the best capture at shooting, but limiting yourself to pre-baked JPEGs is, well, limiting yourself to only mild adjustments after capture.
As far as post capture JPEG adjustments, don't be fooled by the fact you can adjust a JPEG in LR/ACR. Yes, you can do relatively mild adjustments to a JPEG in ACR/LR but not NEARLY to the degree you can accomplish using a raw file as the starting point.
Maybe you can "get by" by shooting JPEGs, is that really what you want to do? Get by? Shooting raw still allows optimal image quality, JPEGs only allow just barely good enough image quality. Your choice... -
Is there any need for a 1536 x 2048 folio anymore? Do they even work with DPS v32?
So I just received a gig from a client to design their new magazine issue using their provided back issue indd DPS files (CS6), along with their new content from the latest print edition that will fill these articles. However, the previous DPS documents were built using 1536 x 2048 pixel (vertical orientation) pages. Is there even a use for this folio size anymore? And would it even work with Apple and Google Play and the latest folio buider?
I recall in 2012, I had to build two renditions during the iPad1 to retina transition, so it could be read on both devices. But I thought Adobe soon abandoned the need for two renditions and went with just the 1024 pixels. I've only worked with 1024 since with all my other clients. Is this correct thinking? Do I need to convert these files to 1024? I'm guessing so, but I don't want to just guess.
The other thing I wonder is if Apple had approved their back issue on 2048 pixels, would it mean a re-submission the new folio using 1024 px height? We have to update the App to iOS 8 anyway, so I just need to be sure I'm working with the folio size.
Can I assume the v32.2 folio builder is solid enough to run with at this time? Hoping one folio will work with both storefronts (google play and Apple) without any glitches/scaling issues.

BrianI think I'll advise my client to convert their current 2048 pixel folio to 1024 pixel height. Then have that 1024 build approved by Apple. Then push my new issue content into the approved App shell. The only time I needed a 2048 rendition is when the new retina iPads came out (mid-2012), and we wanted to take full advantage of the resolution. We also used a 1024 rendition for the iPad1s.
I suspect their 2048 folio is what is making their App in Content Viewer crash. Also, they didn't have a V or H in the filenames, which is what I was trained to do with naming each of my articles, so perhaps that's what's making it crash? I was surprised it would even upload/recognize an article without the V or H in the filename.
Does this sound like possible solution to fix the crashing? The other thing I noticed is that they didn't package their files with fonts and links for each article like I would (They had 20 indd article docs in one issue folder, then all images for all articles were in one links folder (named images, not links. Another suspect. Does Adobe prefer "Links" for the assets?).
If I could solve their crashing problem, I'd be their rock star.

To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV. -
OAM-Files do not run in the Content Viewer for Desktop anymore
After updating DPS today animations made with Edge Animate (OAM-Files) do not run in the Content Viewer for Desktop anymore!
What happened there? Any ideas?

I'm using mac OS 10.8.2 and InDesign CS6 CCI have updated Edge Animate today also with all files working & previewing perfectly within Edge. Upon publishing as OAM files for use in inDesign, the Poster loads as per usual, mark Play on Load interactivity on highlighted content holder as usual BUT when testing in Content Viewer file remains as a static poster image - unable to load animated atributes! I thought perhaps it may be a new viewing option so also uploaded page to DPS Acrobat Workspace & tested & the OAM file has not been assigned as inDesign. This is a massive issue! Our Magazine front cover needs its usual animation. Also tested previous files already live and they too do not view correctly in Content Viewer since update, as well are just a poster image! Adobe need to fix this fast!

Time Machine Has All My Music, Do I Need My CDs Anymore?
Silly question, perhaps. Time Machine has ALL my music from my CDs and that music which I have downloaded. Now, I only use my iTunes for listening to music - my CDs are all packed away. So, do I really need my CDs anymore or can I sell them, give them away? If you house catches fire, the CDs are gone anyway and I'm grabbing the Time Capsule . . .

Unless you also have at least one set of backups off-site, keep them (in your safe deposit box, workplace, relative's house, or other secure place).
I hate to even suggest the possibility, but just the other day someone posted where his Mac and external HD containing his backups were stolen.
You can also lose both your originals and backups in cases of fire, flood, or direct lightning strike on your power lines.

How many gigs will I need for a LG G3 phone?
I just purchased a G3 phone. I only signed up for 1/2 gig of data because I will only be using the phone for talking and occasional texting. I won't use the internet at all. (And won't be using any apps, email or anything.) Somebody advised me that 1/2 gig will not be enough -- that I will need 2 gigs -- even if I'm not using internet. They said that data is constantly being used, every time I use the phone. Is this true? Will I need to update to 2 gigs? Any opinions or advice on this will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
I'm confused as to why you would upgrade to a smartphone with no intention to use the Internet features. There are many wonderful apps out there that keep you informed (most newspapers, radio stations, tv stations have apps), help you keep track of your personal finances (credit cards, bank accounts, etc), navagation apps (no need for a separate gps anymore!), share files, etc. Even fun things like Shazam, where you hear a song and you just need to know who's performing it!
1 GB should be fine for light users. I use Chrome a lot and watch some videos, plus I am always reading the newspapers online and checking twitter, instagram, etc. I have trouble connecting to Xfinity wifi hotspots with my G3, and I am not constantly around places that offer wifi.
Just make sure you have the phone set to only update apps over wifi. And restrict background data on apps as well. That should eliminate a lot of phantom/unnecessary data usage.
I use about 5GB a month. People on unlimited plans who are streaming lots of music and video and transferring files can use hundreds of GBs a month.
Have fun with your new phone! Check out Google Play and download some apps. You can always turn mobile data on and off from the settings menu as you like. -

I have tried various permutations of XMLFOREST, XMLELEMENT, XMLAGG but either I get syntax errors, or the data is wrong (e.g. repeated '<membership>' for each '<member>', or I have to create an invalid tag '<members>' to be filtered later).
Please advise!

MSI ti 4200 128 MB and Problems with "Need for Speed: HighStakes"
Does any one know of a fix for "Need for Speed: HighStakes" with the new 45.32 drivers. When trying to start this game it won't even load, the screen goes dark for a second and then falls back to the desktop. Did the same thing with 43.45, but if I install the drivers that came with the Video card ( I think they were 31.XX) then the game works fine. Haven't come across any other games that won't run except this one, some examples that work fine are UT 2003, C&C: Generals, Warcraft 3, Hot Pursuit 2.

Thanks for any info.well I "bugged" the game makers (EA) and the response is that the game doesn't suport Windows XP. Strange that the older nVidia 31.xx drivers work fine with the game. Also played it on my last machine which had XP and a ATI radeon video card. OH well who ever said Direct X was supposed to be backward compatible.
Too bad the older drivers don't work so well with the newer games. -
Hi! I can't upgrade my iTunes 10.3.1.55 on my Windows XP 2002 SP3 to the latest version of iTunes. Got the message: "A problem has occured with the Windows Installer-package. A program needed for this installation could not be run." What to do?
Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time? -

If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.

As I said above, I want to view my iPod screen on our new 40" Sony Internet full HD TV.
I know that you can do this via HDMI but a Sony guy said that you should be able to do this wirelessly by going through the router. Is this true and can I do this without the need for the Apple TV?
We are soon going to get the airport extreme, so will it work with that?1. Is it a smart TV?
2. If so.... Is the TV connected to the Internet?
3. If it is.... Check if your iPod and your TV share the same IP address (Wi-Fi network)
4. If they do.... Then you should go to wherever your "Other Media" tab is.
5. After that.... Search for you iPod. Because it is connected to the same network, it should recognize the device they same way AirPrint does.
6. If you happen to see this fail, then try this method:
1. Do you have a Bluetooth-enabled computer/laptop?
2. If so.... Enable the bluetooth on the computer/laptop as well as your iPod.
3. After that.... Your iPod should be actively searching and it should find the computer/laptop.
4. If it did.... Transfer the file onto Windows/Mac (preferably Mac) and find the program to open the file.
5. After doing so.... Connect your computer/laptop to the TV via HDMI Output Cable.
6. Now it should work!
