No rows returned when using sql in XQuery.

Hi all,
I have a small table on a db with seven cols and three rows. I am doing the following xquery, but the db is returning an empty rowset when I know there sould be 3.
<WebPage>
for $i in sqlquery("select * from project")/row
return
<project>
{$i/title}
{$i/image}
{$i/icon}
{$i/version}
{$i/start_date}
{$i/home}
{$i/address}
</project>
</WebPage>
There is no problem with the db connection, as it is one I have used before for doing plain sql searches remotely. Does any one know why this would be happening?
Regards,
Simon

Hi Bart,
try this.....
To execute such XQuery queries that use the sqlquery function, you would need to initialize the Java connection information in the XQueryContext before executing the query. For example, your Java program would be something like this,
// get the connection (for example, using the thick JDBC Driver)
DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:@","scott","tiger");
// create a context using that connection..
XQueryContext ctx = new XQueryContext(conn);
// create a string from the file
Reader strm = new StringReader(
"FOR $i IN sqlquery(\"select * from scott.emp\")/ROW "+
" RETURN <EMP empno=\"{$i/EMPNO}\">$i/ENAME,$i/SALARY</EMP>");
// prepare the query
PreparedXQuery xq = ctx.prepareXQuery(strm);
// get a resultset
XQueryResultSet rset = xq.executeQuery();
while (rset.next())
XMLNode node = rset.getNode(); // get result nodes
System.out.println(" NODE "+ node.getNodeName());
node.print(System.out);

  • ExecuteNonQuery doesnt return number of rows affected when used with PL/SQL

    ExecuteNonQuery doesn't return number of rows affected when used with PL/SQL but returns -1. The documentation says ExecuteNonQuery method of OracleCommand returns the number of raws affected but when used with PL/SQL, it returns -1 even the update statement successfully executes and affects multiple records with no exeptions thrown.
    However, if ExecuteNonQuery is used with update sql statement in the asp.net code it returns number of rows affected correctly. Does anybody know why ExecuteNonQuery behaves like this?
    I am using ODP.NET that comes with Oracle Client 11g. The version is 2.111.6.20 of ODP.NET, Oracle database server is 10g.

    You can get the rowcount in the stored procedure via SQL%ROWCOUNT and then pass it out as a parameter.
    For example:
    SQL> create or replace procedure updatesal(v_deptno in number, v_rowsaff out number) as
      2  begin
      3  update emp set sal = sal * 5 where deptno = v_deptno;
      4  v_rowsaff := SQL%ROWCOUNT;
      5  end;
      6  /
    Procedure created.Cheers

  • [Forum FAQ] How do I send multiple rows returned by Execute SQL Task as Email content in SQL Server Integration Services?

    Question:
    There is a scenario that users want to send multiple rows returned by Execute SQL Task as Email content to send to someone. With Execute SQL Task, the Full result set is used when the query returns multiple rows, it must map to a variable of the Object data
    type, then the return result is a rowset object, so we cannot directly send the result variable as Email content. Is there a way that we can extract the table row values that are stored in the Object variable as Email content to send to someone?
    Answer:
    To achieve this requirement, we can use a Foreach Loop container to extract the table row values that are stored in the Object variable into package variables, then use a Script Task to write the data stored in packages variables to a variable, and then set
    the variable as MessageSource in the Send Mail Task.
    Add four variables in the package as below:
    Double-click the Execute SQL Task to open the Execute SQL Task Editor, then change the ResultSet property to “Full result set”. Assuming that the SQL Statement like below:
    SELECT   Category, CntRecords
    FROM         [table_name]
    In the Result Set pane, add a result like below (please note that we must use 0 as the result set name when the result set type is Full result set):
    Drag a Foreach Loop Container connects to the Execute SQL Task.
    Double-click the Foreach Loop Container to open the Foreach Loop Editor, in the Collection tab, change the Enumerator to Foreach ADO Enumerator, then select User:result as ADO object source variable.
    Click the Variable Mappings pane, add two Variables as below:
    Drag a Script Task within the Foreach Loop Container.
    The C# code that can be used only in SSIS 2008 and above in Script Task as below:
    public void Main()
       // TODO: Add your code here
                Variables varCollection = null;
                string message = string.Empty;
                Dts.VariableDispenser.LockForWrite("User::Message");

                Dts.VariableDispenser.LockForWrite("User::CntRecords");
                Dts.VariableDispenser.GetVariables(ref varCollection);
                //Format the query result with tab delimiters
                message = string.Format("{0}\t{1}\n",
                                            varCollection["User::Category"].Value,
                                            varCollection["User::CntRecords"].Value
               varCollection["User::Message"].Value = varCollection["User::Message"].Value + message;
               Dts.TaskResult = (int)ScriptResults.Success;
    The VB code that can be used only in SSIS 2005 and above in Script Task as below, please note that in SSIS 2005, we should
    change PrecompileScriptIntoBinaryCode property to False and Run64BitRuntime property to False
    Public Sub Main()
            ' Add your code here

            Dts.VariableDispenser.LockForWrite("User::CntRecords")
            Dts.VariableDispenser.GetVariables(varCollection)
            'Format the query result with tab delimiters
            message = String.Format("{0}" & vbTab & "{1}" & vbLf, varCollection("User::Category").Value, varCollection("User::CntRecords").Value)
            varCollection("User::Message").Value = DirectCast(varCollection("User::Message").Value,String) + message
            Dts.TaskResult = ScriptResults.Success
    End Sub
    Drag Send Mail Task to Control Flow pane and connect it to Foreach Loop Container.
    Double-click the Send Mail Task to specify the appropriate settings, then in the Expressions tab, use the Message variable as the MessageSource Property as below:

  • How to numberformat when using sql:query alogn with c:forEach JSTL tags

    Is there anyway to format the numeric values returned from the database when using <sql:query> alogn with <c:forEach> tags

    <sql:query..../>
    <c:forEach var="row" items="${queryResults.rows}">

    how can i format them to 1,000 , 10,1000 , 100,000 etc

    It is polite to mention what your answer was. These posts are not just here for you to ask questions, but to be used as a resource for other people to find answers. Saying "I solved it" with no details helps noone.
    I presume you discovered the JSTL <fmt:formatNumber> tag?

  • Null values returned when using request.getParameters(

    I have a html form which allows the user to choose options and select a file to upload. When I use method=Post I get null values returned. When I use method=Get I get my parameter values fine.. but I get an error.
    "Posted content type isn't multipart/form-data"
    I would like to know why I am getting null values returned when using Post. I am using the following to get the values from the name=value passed to the servlet.
    String strIndustry = request.getParameter("frmIndustry");
              String strCompany = request.getParameter("frmCompany");
              String strCollabType = request.getParameter("frmCollaboration");
    I have another form where the user can search information in a database that works just fine w/ either Get or Post
    Or perhaps I am using oreilly MultipartRequest incorrectly??? but I copied it directly from another discussion.. ???
    any thoughts
    Thanks

    taybon:
    you could do it like this. in this case, you submit your form with the parameters (industry, company, collaboration), and upload your file at the same time. and in the target servlet, you can build your MultipartRequest object like this:
    MultipartRequest multi = new MultipartRequest(request, temp_location, 50 * 1024);where variable temp_location stands for a temporatory diretory for file uploading.
    and then you get your parameters, so you can build the directory with them. and after that, you can move your file to that directory using File.renameTo();
    but as i've suggested in my previous posting, i just recommend you upload your file in a separate form. and then you can perform an oridianry doPost form submit with those parameters. or you may have problems with the file uploading. (this is just my personal experiences with Multipart).
    there is one other thing i'd like to mention, file.renameTo() won't work if you need to move files to a network drive in windows. it won't work if you move files across file systems in unix.

  • No rows returned when passing unicode criteria using UNISTR

    I'm trying to send a query that's looking for data from a column that is UTF16. The character set of the 10.2.0.4 DB is WE8ISO8859P1 but the national character set is UTF16, and the column in question is set to nchar.
    I am converting the character to hex and sending it through wrapped in the UNISTR function so that the DB can understand the unicode character (the query goes through as ASCII text but should get back a row with a unicode character).
    The problem is that when I issue the query in a program like SQL Developer or Toad, it returns the row, but when I do it through a .NET web page it doesn't return anything. Just to make sure, I ran the page in debug mode and took the query just before it's sent through the connection and pasted it in SQL Developer and it still returned the row, so the query text wasn't getting messed up. The query is something along the lines of the following (with some other unessential criteria omitted):
    SELECT * FROM <table>
    WHERE UPPER(<column>) LIKE UNISTR('%\1E24UQ%')
    These are the highlights from the code executing the query:
    OracleConnection oConn = new OracleConnection();
    oConn.ConnectionString = "Password=" + password + ";User ID=" + username + ";Data Source=" + database;
    oConn.Open();
    string sSqlLogs = "SELECT * FROM table WHERE UPPER(column) LIKE UNISTR('%\1E24UQ%')"
    OracleDataAdapter oAdaptLogs = new OracleDataAdapter(sSqlLogs,oConn);
    oAdaptLogs.Fill(dsLogs,"LOGS");
    The fill operation returns zero rows. Anyone have an idea of why this might be happening?
    --> Never mind. I figured it out.

    My SSIS package retrieves a excel file and saves the vales into an SQL table. When I run the package by itself in my server it works fine but when it's called from a SQL agent, it fails with the above error. Please help me resolve it.

    That's the issue. If it's a SQL login the password cannot be retrieved by account executing the package from the job which is why login fails. In that case best thing would be set password in job properties or pass it using configuration created in the package

  • Can we get row counts when using dbms_datapump?

    When using dbms_datapump, is there a way to get the rows loaded for each table, similar to the log files when using the command line? I can't seem to find anything. I'm trying to import. Database is 10g r2.

    if you don't have to use DBMS_DATAPUMP and can use external tables for the import (both work exactly same way), then you can use ROWCOUNT
    INSERT INTO MYTABLE SELECT * FROM EXTERNALTABLE;
    v_number_of_rows := SQL%ROWCOUNT ;
    COMMIT;
    if you have to use DBMS_DATAPUMP then look at "worker status types" in this document

  • Question about number of rows returned in PL/SQL , SQL

    The Child Table has 3 Million plus records, but the loaded table only brings back
    approximately 1.2 Million records. Is there anything on the Oracle side that would limit the number of rows returned.

    Would it be possible to post a test case that explains what you're seeing? It sounds like you are indicating that
    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM <<some table>>returns 3 million rows. When some process goes to load a Teradata table by extracting all the information from this Oracle table, the Teradata table ends up with only 1.2 million rows. Is that correct?
    If so,
    - What is the ETL process?
    - Is it possible that the ETL process is encountering an error midway through?
    - Is it possible that the ETL process is extracting a subset of the data through a WHERE clause?
    - Is the ETL process logging in as the same Oracle user you're using to do the COUNT(*)?

  • How to force simple tags and null attributes to appear when using SQL/XML?

    Hello everybody:
    I'm developing a non-schema based XMLType view.
    When the XML document is generated, i noticed two things I need to manage in order to achieve the desired result:
    1. Oracle generates a <tag></tag> pair for each XMLELEMENT defined; in my case, some tags need to appear as <tag/>... how do I do? Is it possible when using schema based XMLType views? Is it possible while using a non-schema approach?
    2. When using XMLATTRIBUTE('' AS "attribute") or XMLATTRIBUTE(NULL AS "attribute"), no one attribute with label "attribute" and null value appears at the output; how do I force to Oracle DB to render those attributes which are with no values (needed to render those attributes as another parsing code will await for all the items)?
    3. Some tip about how to route the output to an XML text disk file will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello odie_63, thanks for your reply:
    Reasons why needed single tags are these two next: Needed to generate a single XML file from 50,000,000 rows, where the XML ouput matches not only row data but another default values for another elements and attributes (not from database but using strings and types with default values); by using start and end tag, the generated file is as much twice bigger than using single tags; second, needed a very precise presentation for all the document.
    For generating that document, currently focus is based on using a batch process relying on Spring Batch with using a single JDBC query where a join happens between two tables. From my point of view, that approach uses: database resources, network resources, disk resources, and processing resources, including the price of making the join, sending to network, creating objects, validating, and making the file (Expending too much time generating that XML file). That processs currently is in development.
    I think possibly another approach is delegating the complete generation of that file to the database using its XML capabilities. My current approach following your recomendations is to generate a clob where I will put all the XML and putting it into a table. It leads me to another issues: Considering limitations on memory, processing and disk space, needed to append a single row-as-xml into the clob as soon as possible, and putting the clob inside the field as soon as possible, or putting the clob inside the field, and appending into it as the data is generated; so How do I manage the process in order to achieve that goals?. Seen these issues aren't related to my original question, so I'll open a new post. Any help will be apreciated.
    Thanks again in advance.

  • SP 2013 - Database Recovery Mode When Using SQL Server Mirroring

    Hello Community,
    Our DBA is configuring a High Availability Architecture for our SharePoint 2013 Farm.  Essentially he is using SQL Server Database mirroring with a clustered automatic failover using a witness server.  He has informed me that mirroring requires
    that the databases are set to Full Recovery Mode, but that several of the databases are set to Simple Recovery Mode, the databases are the following:
    SearchService_DB
    SearchService_DB_CrawlStore
    SearchService_DB_AnalyticsReportingStore
    SearchService_DB_LinksStore
    WSS_UsageApplication
    User_Profile_DB
    User_Sync_DB
    User_Social_DB
    However, when I checked the following article -
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc678868.aspx - I see that Simple Recovery Mode is the default configuration for these databases.  So, finally, here is my question - will it be detrimental to these databases to set them to the Full Recovery
    Mode?
    Thanks!

    This really depends on your recovery objectives. The main reason for taking log backups, aside from truncating the log, is to be able to recover to a specific point-in-time. This is very helpful in mission-critical, highly transactional systems. I have not
    seen a SharePoint environment require a point-in-time restore of the content or application service database. So for this case, you can overwrite the LDF bakups. Just make sure that you can recover your databases appropriately and meet your recovery objectives
    on the farm level.
    As far as the log file growth is concerned, you are correct. If you cap the size of your LDF file to let's say 10 GB, regular log backups will truncate the log, thereby, having space for additional transaction log records. The only risk here is when your
    log backups are not frequent enough that the LDF file fills up before the next log backup runs to truncate the log. You run the risk of your database behaving as read-only and that will affect the site collections/applications using those databases

  • ORA-01003 when using SQL*Loader

    Hi people,
    Can anyone shed some light on this.
    We have a multitasked dataload operation that is using SQL*Loader and on occasion we're seeing some rows failing due to ORA-01003 no statement parsed. Could this be due to some shortage of a database resource (cursors, connections ??) or are there other well known reasons for this.
    Any help appreciated.
    Regards
    Andy

    Check those registers ( rows ) in the bad file or in the discard file. If the register(s) are in the discard file is because the register ( row ) does not complete the requirements of denoted in the controlfile file and if those registers are in the error file is because the database is rejecting them according to constraints and so on.
    Conclusion: realize in what file those rows are being stored after to be rejected.
