No Sound on G5- Never has worked- Possible Alternative?

Hi There,
I've had my G5 for 5 years, the sound has never ever worked on it from day 1. I tried hooking up speakers to the back- no dice...settings don't fix anything.
I brought it to apple store to the genius bar and they said it may be the motherboard, if so, its over $700 to fix...no point.
When I plug headphones into it, they show up, but still, no sound.
I was wondering (before I go out and buy them) if I can use USB speakers? It's an external device...so will that work?

You could try a USB audio interface such as the iMic

which has an analogue audio-out port for speakers, etc. You would then be able to connect your choice of speakers - possibly the ones you have already - rather than being limited to "USB" speakers.
The optical digital audio-out port on the G5 is another possibility - which would give 5.1 surround-sound from DVD Player - but would require a somewhat greater investment in a speaker system with optical audio-in such as

Never has worked properly

I bought my Ipod in May 2005 and it has never worked correctly. Either it would not recognize the USB port at all, or 90% of the time when it appeared to be charging correctly, it was actually uncharging the battery. Most of the time it wouldn't read the USB port. Also, the Ipod would only select a few songs to download half the time from ITunes. We figured our old computer and USB port did not meet the minimum qualifications for the Ipods needs.
Now, we got a better computer, and now having the IPod plugged into the USB port, sometimes interfers with the the computers ability to start or run if the Ipod is plugged in. Again, I am getting the message that there is something wrong with the USB port, which was the same thing that happened on our old computer, except this computer is brand new, and there shouldn't be anything wrong.
It has been a very expensive headache, and if anyone has input I would great appreciate it!!
Ipod Mini (2nd Gen) Windows XP

I think the computer we currently have is a Dell XPS400. Before on the last computer most of the time it didn't charge at all or if it appeared to be charging, when you went to use it the battery was completely dead. I think I was able to use my IPod for the first 8 months about 8 times when it actually worked properly.
When we got the new computer, the IPod seemed to finally start working for the most part (90% of the time). Now, it isn't being recognized at ALL (for the past 2 weeks). The error message that I am constantly getting is "USB Devise not Recognized, One of the USB devises attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it." My personal opinion, the IPod I have is seriously defective and is messing up our computers! You got to love the return policy's on this overpriced gadgets too, which is you can't return them, just try and figure out the problem!
Can anyone explain why we've had two different computers to this one Ipod and the Ipod seems to not be compatible to either one? If anyone has a once and for all solution, I would be ecstatic!

6 months in, never has worked!

So 6 months on from first buying itunes match, the thing still crashes constantly, has never worked, and obviously never will. I have no errors, no files over 200mb, no ineligible tracks, all formatted properly. And as usual absolutely no indication which files it has issues with.It just crashes. End of.
I have just finished uploading my songs to google music, which is free, only had an issue with 4 files all of which it bypassed and listed the names of and what the issue was. I fixed it and it carried on. All files uploaded with no issues.
Apple is junk, and they care nothing for their customers, only their money. Maybe if they actually looked at what their competitors are doing right (a lot better than apple style without substance) rather than sueing them out of fear of competition, then they'd have a lot less unhappy consumers. Real consumers, not fanbois. Bring on the Galaxy player!!

I haven't had a single issue with iTunes match. To each his own.

Open iTunes when this iPod is connected - ticked
Sync only ticked songs - ticked
Convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC - not ticked
Manually Manage Music - not ticked
Enable disc use - not ticked
On the Music tab I have ticked the big sync music box at the top then in the box under that have selected the radio button for Selected playlists, artists and genres. There is nothing else ticked in that top box. In the boxes underneath I have only got ticked items in the playlists box
On the Podcasts tab I have ticked the big Sync podcasts box at the top and have it set to automatically include all unplayed episodes of selected podcasts then in the box below that I have ticked the podcasts I play on this iPod
On the Audiobooks tab I have ticked the big Sync Audiobooks tab at the top and have selected the radio button for selected audio books. The in the box below that I have one or two books from my library ticked at any one time.
On the Photos tab I have nothing ticked.

Compressor 4 never has worked. Please help.

Okay. First the tech specs. MacPro 2x3 Quad, 26G RAM, Lion 10.7.5.
I installed FCPX, Motion5 and Compressor4 on same drive as FC Studio. Followed the directions on opening Motion4 before opening any “new” FCP programs.
FCPX and Motion5 work fine, but I cannot get Compressor 4 to work. Jobs will say they are processing, but nothing seems to be happening. I always have to use Compressor 3. It works right away.
No problems with sharing out of FCPX. That works fine.

Suggest your Qmaster state info and Parms are buggered! Post your request over there and while you're looking you could start here for getting Qmaster kicked off again.

No need to revert to compressor v3.. cOmpressor v4 is great! .. Just sort applemqmaster out and it will work very well.

I have tried the mystical swiping upward on the screen with 4 fingers to get some special sound menu (which I never succeeded in getting). My headphone jack doesn't work all the time either so some times my kids can hear their games and sometimes they can't. I am super frustrated at this point. So any suggestions would be great. Am I missing something basic or do we just have a soundless iPad now?

The sound on my laptop has stopped working entirely, with and without headphones. What should I do?

The sound on my computer has stopped working. I have searched through countles google entries to try and figure out the problem but I can't find anything remotely useful. I never spilled any liquid or anything on my computer. I was just searching through youtube and when I clicked a video there was no sound. Then I checked iTunes and tried to play some music, still no sound. I played around with the preferences and volume control, still no sound. If you have any advice please help. Going to the apple store is so expensive and I don't have the time or money.

Did you try resetting PRAM and SMC?
Is there any red light visible in the headphone port?

All the Drum Kits available for GarageBand are mixed in stereo.
Logic provides the same 18 Drum Kits also as "Producer Kits", which are multi-track outputs,. Each Drum Kit Piece (Kick, Snare, HH, etc) and also room mice and overheads are routed to individual channel strips.
Here is a screenshot of one Drum Kit in Logic Pro X with individual Channels Strips. Each Channel Strip can be loaded with individual effects (compressor) and adduced with individual sends, etc.
What that means is that all the Drummers are professionally recorded and sampled with individual mics. The Stereo Drums Kits are just "stereo mix-downs" for easier handling and less CPU demand. I explain all the details about the Drummer ecosystem in my graphically enhanced manual "GarageBand X - How it Works"

No sound on windows 7 ultimate, but it has worked before!

Hi, I'm using a macbook air OS X Mountaint Lion (10.X.X <- not sure about those numbers since I'm on the windows 7 atm) and I've tried to install windows 7 ultimate(32-bit) a couple of times, and the very few first times it did work, installing it, and getting the sound and internet, everything working.
But when I realized I didn't have enough space and had to re-do it, I removed windows 7 again and re-installed it, this happend a couple of times because I needed 50gb, but ended up having about 45 everytime I finished installing windows 7.
And for some reason I just couldn't open set-up.exe anymore through my USB with the boot camp support software in it. Note, it did work before, but after a few re-installations, whenever I try to open the set-up.exe this is what shows up : This version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.
I mean it has worked before, I did exactly like all the other times, but I did notice one change from the first times and to the times where errors started occuring. It was that when I'm installing windows, I get to choose between windows 7, basic, and all the other ones, including windows 7 ultimate. But the very first times I installed windows it automatically chose Windows 7 Ultimate, I couldn't chose which one I wanted.
I've tried to install boot camp support softwares through apple's website on the download page, I've tried 4 different and only one, almost worked. I could open the set-up halfway and and then somehow I couldn't install anything, so I decided to try and open all the maps and install the softwares manually, which provided me with internet atleast, some worked some did not work such as Nvidia. But I need the sound! Help me?

On W7, you have a higher version (6.30.223.215) of the 802.11n driver compared to what I have on W8.1 (5.106.199.1).

Can you check the USB that you built with BC Assistant or manually from Bootcamp downloads to see what you have?

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. If you did not do step 4 properly, start all over again.

- Is it a 4G iPod? That model sometimes mates poorly with dock because the configuration of the iPod by the dock connector is different that other devices. Thus, make sure it is fulld/seated in the dock.
- Have you brought the iPod and dock to the Genius at the an Apple store.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

TS1440 A flashing question mark appeared when I started my MacBook Pro, I've tried all the suggestions and nothing has worked. How can I back up my current files so I can reinstall Mavericks?

I recently did a manual reboot after my MacBook Pro had frozen, and instead of the usual Apple and loading icon, it gave me the flashing question mark on a folder, which I've never encountered before. I looked up some possible reasons on my PC, and after reading that there's a problem with my HD I tried looking up how to back up my files so that I can do a clean reinstall of Yosemite (latest ver.). However, I've never used anything like Time Machine or anything else that could back up all my files, so it didn't sound like I could do anything about that at this point. I've also tried going into Disk Utility and attempting to repair the disk image. There was only 2 available, disk0 and the base system. I verified the base system, and told me there was nothing wrong (it didn't give me the option to repair anything either, on both available options). I don't think this is the right thing though, since my drive was called MacBook Pro HD. So basically this is the point I'm at now. Is there anything I can do that will repair my HD without erasing all my files?

You can boot into Recovery and re-install the OS X on top of what you have. It will preserve your user data.
