Noise on line and long disconnects since repair

Hi there. I posted on here previously. Had a major line fault just after activation. Basically something blew and the line died as soon as I tried to use bb but a line check showed as ok. Based on advice on here, arranged for an open reach engineer to visit. He identified a fault with the cabinet outside and tried his best to fix it.
During and since
-The engineers box failed to do some of tasks he asked of it while he was testing the repaired line. The guy even phoned in about it.
-He said there was brief noise on the line but his box was acting up and I was to keep an eye on it.
-The broad band keeps disconnecting for long periods and massively dropping sync when it does comes back. (syncs at 19.25 Meg then drops to 9.30 Meg). I normally have to reboot the hub to regain full sync from there.
-The phone line, when receiving a call, causes the bb to drop the connection.
-The phone line keeps getting interference, I believe from the bb line. Can actually hear computer noise over the line, not just crackling.
Think the lines still faulty and even crossed to a degree. Just swapped out the micro filter for a second time to test all the same. Do you think I maybe need to get open reach out again?

  • Crackly phone line and broadband disconnecting

For a month or two i have been having problems with our phone line and broadband connection. The phone line is extremely noisy (interferance) and when you make a call or recieve a call the broadband disconnects. I have tried different filters, routers and wires but no good. I have conducted a quiet line test and the result was i could hear nothing on the line. When i unplug the hub and just have the phone connected to the socket the noise on the phone has gone and their is no problem, connecting the hub make the noise come back. As a result of all this my broadband speeds are very low.
Here is my hub stats and a bt whole sale speed test.

your drops in connection have at one point reconnected with a far lower speed than normal resulting in the low ip profile.  if you stay conencted 24/7 for 3/5 days the profile will correct itself for your current connection speed
I would as john46 suggested connected to test socket with a new filter and see if that helps

  • Noisy line and internet disconnecting

    Hi
Last year, I had a problem with the phone cable outside the house. When it rained, it caused noise on the line and the internet would disconnect often. It turned out that the outside line was really old and needed replaced, which eventually happened after a couple of engineer visits.
Everything has been going fine, but now I seem to have the same problem again. The noise on the line started last night and today the broadband light on the hub has been turning orange.
I've tried all the usual - I've changed the filters as I have three spare ones, I've tried plugging only the phone into the wall, even via the test socket. I thought maybe it could be an extension cable, so I tried plugging the phone and router directly into the wall.
The noise seems to come and go, just like last year, which makes it harder to pin point what's wrong. At one point I thought I'd sorted the problem and I thought it was the extension cable because the noise disappeared - but then it came back again!
We have had a lot of rain over the weekend, but I think it's strange that it's affected the new line like it did with the old one, unless it's been damaged?? I'm wondering if it's actually the hub itself? It's the black homehub 2 that I have.
I've been at this all morning and I really don't want to call BT because I hate speaking to someone who doesn't understand a word I say and vice versa!
    Any suggestions?

  • Crackling phone line and broadband disconnecting

I'll try and keep this short as i have no intention of wasting another 4 hours of my life trying to explain how disappointed i've been with my BT Infinity broadband.
I have recently come to the end of my 18 month contract so was looking for a new provider. I have been getting speeds of 10MB for a while, when i should be getting much higher download speeds. My phone line has always crackled badly and whenever i use the home phone the router resets itself.
I made the decision that if BT could rectify any problem with my speeds i would stay with them. I have basically been told that the problem is in my house. There is no problem whatsoever with my phone line so any engineer visit would cost me a fortune.
After using the BT line test/speed test it tells me that the speeds between my home and the phone exchange (0.7 miles away) is just under 10Mbps. Does this mean that there isn't anything wrong with the internal set up of my broadband and if so why did none of the several people i spoke come to this conclusion? I've been paying for the 76Mbps service for 18 Months and not one person at BT has ever offered a solution just the same scripted rubbish that it is me that had the problem. Not only have i spent a fortune on the broadband itself, i also bought new phones on the recommendation of another BT "expert".
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I use the home hub 4. Yes it does have a filter on it and then the phone plugs into that. Tried test socket this morning and still getting crackling on the line.

  • Disconnecting Line and Final Bill

I had been a loyal Verizon Wireless customer since 2008. I
was on a share plan with my wife and my brother, and I would pay the bill each
month which was about $160 for the three of us each month. I never missed one
single payment. Well the 3 of us decided to switch to
US Cellular. My brother’s wife had already been there, and they had these new
phones for a penny and it was time as we’ve had these same phones for 5 years
almost now, we were out of contract, and I had a work discount through US Cellular. So.......
February 22, 2014 the three of us went over to US cellular
and started a new plan with new phones. My phone number and my brother’s phone
number switched without a problem. However, my wife, who’s number was from a
different region could not be switched, we needed to get her a new number.
After we switched, US Cellular told me to call Verizon the very next day (which
was February 23rd) and disconnect/deactivate my wife’s line because
that one would not happen automatically as they didn’t transfer her old number.
So on February 23rd, I did
just that. I called Verizon and they said we were disconnecting it and I’d get
the next bill and would have to pay that and should be done.
Well sure enough around March 1st, the next bill
came, and on it is the full balance of $160 due March 10th. I question this and
call Verizon again admitting I thought it would be a lesser amount. They instructed
me to look at the billing date. The cycle was from January 15th to
February 15th on the bill that is due by March 10th. Well
we switched phones on February 22nd, so it made sense to me that
this bill didn’t reflect the few days of February 16- 22nd but
rather the previous full month from January 15th up until February 15th.
So far so good, I just misunderstood the bill cycle date.
So I asked if I could just pay off the remaining amount and
be done with it all. I mean we’re in the beginning of March now and haven’t used
the phones since February 22nd, and they’re all disconnected now,
why not? They told me unfortunately no, I had to pay this whole bill first and
then wait for the next bill cycle to come available which wouldn’t happen until after
March 10th for that last billing cycle which would  reflect those few days of, Feb 16- Feb. 22nd.
The rep ensures me it will probably only be a few bucks per line for those 6-7
days or so.  I said that’s too bad I can’t
just pay the whole thing now but oh well; we’ll do it your way. I guess I’ll just
go online in a few days and pay it  and
then come the next bill cycle (which doesn’t go out until March 10th)
we’ll go online about that and pay the rest; just a few dollars per line.
The rep butts in, “yeah, about that sir, once you disconnect
the line, as you've done, you lose service to your online bill pay and accounts online so you
will have to call us to pay. I’m thinking aww man, another inconvenience, but
oh well, I’ll do what I have to do and call back twice to get these bills paid.
Well, a week later a couple days before March 10th
when the full $160 is due, I call and pay it (which took me forever on hold as
one of their centers was down). She apologized for the delay, took my payment,
and said when that last bill gets generated here in a few days (March 11th that shows usage from Feb 15th to March 15th, but will only reflect the few days I used the phones in that cycle which would be to the 22nd) I can just push pound
something something and pay the last bill through the automated phone system and be
    done. I said okay
Come now to March 22nd I get that final bill in
the mail. I expect it to be a few bucks per line as is it would only reflect
from February 15th to Feb 22nd when we disconnected our
lines.  But no, the bill is $120. That's almost
3/4 of the price of all three of our phones for an entire month.  I was thinking something must be wrong, unless they didn't prorate the bill in which case the whole month (which would be a rip off) would be $160 like usual but why all this confusion? I was hoping to just use the automated bill
pay via phone to pay for those 6 days in the last cycle and be done with it forever but no, now I have to call the
company AGAIN to figure out all of this. What happened next was a nightmare!
I called and spoke with a rep asking why the outrageous
price for just a few days of service on those lines. She puts me on hold and
looks into it. She comes back and says my wife’s line was never disconnected. I
said you have to be kidding me; I’ve called in to disconnect it initially and
then even called back w/ questions on how the last bill works and everything
after we disconnect the lines. You can even see that no data or minutes were ever used on
any of those 3 lines since Feb. 22nd. She answers, yes sir I see
that, let me place you back on hold. Okay I figure she’s going to check this
out.  She comes back again, well sir I
see you called a couple times  but I don’t see that you requested to disconnect your wife’s
line. WHAT?! I thought. Why else would I originally call? US Cellular was right and told me specifically told me to do this the very next day and I did! AND THEN I ALSO EVEN CALLED BACK LATER AFTER THE NEXT BILL CAME CONFIRMING ALL THE LINES WERE DISCONNECTED AND HAD QUESTIONS ON HOW I LEAVE VERIZON AND WHAT MY FINAL PAYMENT WOULD BE!   And why was my
account access to pay my bill online turned off (I did try to go online to see
if I could pay the last bill and I was no longer to go online) if my wife's line was never disconnected? This is getting
nuts. She placed me on hold again and returns, okay sir, this is what I’m going
to do. I’m going to suspend her line today and then you can call back tomorrow
to disconnect it.  Then you can pay off the last payment on the next bill cycle.
At this point my blood is boiling, was this a joke. I should
not have to call back again, this should have been disconnected weeks ago! and
you can see nothing has been used on those phones. I told her this is the last bill cycle and  I’m not calling
back and we need to get this disconnected today and that bill lowered to its
fair amount.  She places me on hold again
and comes back and tells me she had overridden something and got the line disconnected
today and she was going to take $40 off my phone bill.
At this point I’m like finally, but an hour later and now my
phone bill is $70 for the three phones that we used for 6 days!!  I said 6 days is about 1/5th of the
month. If our final bill is reflecting only the days of the month we used it
should be more like 1/5 the price of our original monthly bill which was $160. which would be more like $32, not $70. I had to explain some of the simple math to her and she
goes on to push about how the line was active and such, and I said but that
wasn’t my fault you didn’t disconnect it and this is not a fair final bill for
6 days of usage!!  She put me on hold yet
again and finally came back and said I’m going to take off another $40 from the
bill but it will need approval from my supervisor which will take 2 business
days. If and when she approves it, you will get the final bill in the mail for
the $120 minus an $85 credit. FINALLY!!!
I wasn’t even looking for something free, I just wanted a
fair final bill after I’ve taken the time to call to disconnect my wife’s line
and understand how the final bill works and everything. No one should have to
go through this and spend hours on the phone trying to understand how the
process works so you don’t get duped and then end up getting duped anyway and
having to spend more time to fix that. It was a big rip-off and extremely frustrating.
Telling me the line’s not disconnected but taking away online bill pay, and the
final bill itself was not only wrong, but it outright lied in certain spots.
Almost as though they were making up dollar amounts and dates. The bill cycle on the last bill said Feb 15th to March 15th but then under then under my wife's name there was the charge of $120 and the dates next to that said March 15th - April 15th!?!?! The phones haven't been used since Feb 22nd! Not simple at all and very confusing.  Make sure you’re carefully monitoring your
bills when leaving Verizon Wireless. Needless to say, I’m never going back to
them so I won’t have to worry about this again. I just hope this new paper bill that shows the credit gets to my mail box before it's due date of 04/10 so I don't get a late charge. I was assured it would. I hope the CSR is telling the truth this time for once. I have faith in the last one I spoke with. I'm hoping she doesn't let me down too like everyone before her so far has.

Leaving is quite simple via porting out. As you noted when two of the lines ported successfully. However I can see no valid reason why the wifes number could not be ported out. There are porting laws in place. But on to the rest.
If your monthly service runs as you are saying "The cycle was from January 15th to February 15th on the bill that is due by March 10th".
That would be incorrect. If your monthly bill is from lets say January 15 through February 14 then your payment on the account is always that last day. (February 14th.) The next new billing cycle is now February 15th through March 14 again the bill closing date is the day the invoice must be paid. All three lines since they were ported on February 22nd. still must be paid in full (2 ported & 1 not ported). There is no prorating in this case. Now in regards to the bill closing date again would next be March 15, 2014 through April 14, 2014. Since the wife's phone was not closed the only device should be just that line and no other. The other lines are paid up through March 14, 2014 so there should be no further charges.
Some where along the line folks must remember to terminate service (port) a few days BEFORE the next bill comes due. remember we pay in advance.
    Good Luck

  • Noise on phone line and broadband cutting out when...

Hi, I have been experiencing a problem with my broadband dropping out when the phone is in use. I have also had a very crackly/noisy line whilst using the phone.
After reading various problems on these forums (some sound similar) I wanted to see if anyone else could help as I’m still unsure what to do next. I haven’t really had much help out of BT except for them sending out a new Hub (V3) saying that it should fix the problem. It did not fix it and I have since had a few more conversations, which have resulted each time in BT saying that there is no fault on the line, and it will be £130 minimum call out for any further action.
I have done everything I can think of in the house to see if the problem was to do with my household wiring including replacing the wiring for my extension. The filters have all been replaced and I have also used the quiet line facility and there is still noise on the line and the broadband still drops out when the phone is used.
At the moment I really have no clue what to do next so thought if I post up my ADSL line status results that maybe someone would see a problem or maybe have a thought on what to try next as I don't really want to be paying £130.
My set up is BT HomeHub 3 (option 3) with a BT Vison Box. The problem with the broadband dropping out seems to have started around the time I was notified by email that there was an upgrade on the network completion that was on the 24th June.
Any help would be very much appreciated as this is understandably getting a very tiresome. Cheers in advance.

One thing to add, are you sure on how they phrased the info regarding to the £130 charge. That should only really be applied if it is YOUR equipment that is at fault (and on some occassions if you have damaged the external line).
I have what sounds to be a much more intermittent issue than yours, the vast bulk of my visits have resulting in the engineer not finding an issue (occassionally they do but then seem to lose that info before the next one) and I have never been charged since there is no issue with my equipment and the effect on the broadband can be seen via BT's own logging (ie speed reductions etc).
There has been some reports that sound like inappropriate charging but really you have an obvious line issue and even if intermittent should not be chaged providing you have confirmed it is an external cause.

  • Openreach Disconnected Line and then Wouldn't Reco...

I've been experiencing problems with disconnects and slow connection on BT Infinity.
An Openreach engineer visited my home this morning.  He tested my line and identified two faults.  He was able to demonstrate that these faults were caused by the connection between the fibre cabinet and my telephone line (he was able to demonstrate this by disconnecting the fibre completely  - the faults disappeared when he did this).  He also mentioned that one of his colleagues had told him that there were “problems with fibre in Fillongley”.
He left my home promising to reconnect the fibre and to notify Openreach that a Broadband engineer was needed to resolve the problem.  Since he left, I’ve received no call from him and the broadband has not reconnected – so I’m now completely without service.
I've been onto BT all day trying to get this solved.  They tell me that engineer couldn't reconnect the line because he wasn't a broadband engineer and isn't qualified to do so - if that's the case, then how come he was qualified to DISCONNECT it?  And why didn't he explain to me that I'd be without service.
These hopeless jobsworths say that they'll send a broadband engineer out tomorrow to look a the problem, but the situation's ridiculous - I've gone from having a slow line to no line because the guy who disconnected it for testing isn't qualified to reconnect it.

If it was disconnected, how could you tell the faults disappeared?

  • How do I read from a text file that is longer than 65536 lines and write the data to an Excel spreadsheet and have the data write to a new column once the 65536 cells are filled in a column?

I have data that is in basic generic text file format that needs to be converted into Excel spreadsheet format.  The data is much longer than 65536 lines, and in my code I haven't been able to figure out how to carry over the data into the next column.  Currently the conversion is done manually and generates an Excel file that has a total of 30-40 full columns of data.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No need to use nested For loops. No need for any loop anyway. You just have to use a reshape array function. The picture below shows how to proceed.
    However, there may be an issue if your element number is not a multiple of the number of columns : zero value elements will be added at the end of the last column in the generated 2D array. Now the issue depends on the way you intend store the data in the Excel spreadsheet : you could convert the data as strings, replace the last zero values with empty strings, and write the whole 2D array to a file (with the .xls extension ) using the write to spreadsheet function. Only one (minimal) problem : define the number of decimal digits to be used;
or you could write the numeric array directly to a true Excel spreadsheet, using either the NI report generation tools or ActiveX commands, then replace the last elements with empty strings.
We need more input from you to decide how to solve these last questions.

    Hi.
You simply can't. Snow Leopard is compiled in Intel binary only.

Unfortunately yes, though technology would never move on if it kept to older standards and did not strive to do more.
The app store always gives you the option to use a previous version of the app IF it is available for your device.

    "Could not join “NAME-HOTSPOT”.
    A connection timeout occurred"
Please someone help me with this - I do a lot of travelling and use my hotspot!
    Thanks

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wrieless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • Need a VB-Script that read a txt-file and only the lines that are new since last time

    Hi,
I need help to write a VB script that read all new lines since the last time.
For example:  The script reads the textfile at specific time, then 10 minutes later the script read the file again, and it should now only read the lines that are new since last time. Anyone that has such a script in your scriptingbox?
    cheers!

Based on the excellent idea by Pegasus, where is a VBScript solution. I use a separate file to save the last line count read from the file, then each time the file is read I update the line count. Only lines after the last count are output by the program:
    Option Explicit
Dim strFile, objFSO, objFile, strCountFile, objCountFile, strLine, lngCount, lngLine
    Const ForReading = 1
    Const ForWriting = 2
    Const OpenAsASCII = 0
    Const CreateIfNotExist = True
' Specify input file to be read.
    strFile = "c:\Scripts\Example.log"
' Specify file with most recent line count.
    strCountFile = "c:\Scripts\Count.txt"
' Open the input file for reading.
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strFile, ForReading)
' Check if the line count file exists.
    If (objFSO.FileExists(strCountFile) = False) Then
' Initial count is 0, so all lines are read.
        lngCount = 0
    Else
' Open the line count file.
        Set objCountFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strCountFile, ForReading)
' Read the most recent line count.
        Do Until objCountFile.AtEndOfStream
            lngCount = CLng(objCountFile.ReadLine)
        Loop
    End If
    ' Read the input file.
    lngLine = 0
    Do Until objFile.AtEndOfStream
        ' Count lines.
        lngLine = lngLine + 1
        strLine = objFile.ReadLine
        If (lngLine >= lngCount) Then
            ' Output the line.
            Wscript.Echo strLine
        End If
    Loop
    ' Close all files.
    objFile.Close
    If (lngCount > 0) Then
        objCountFile.Close
    End If
' Ignore last line of the file if it is blank.
    If (strLine = "") Then
        lngLine = lngLine - 1
    End If
' Save the new line count.
    Set objCountFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strCountFile, _
        ForWriting, CreateIfNotExist, OpenAsASCII)
    objCountFile.WriteLine CStr(lngLine + 1)
    objCountFile.Close

    Hi
Are you still facing the same error ? If yes, are you getting this error everytime you are trying to export ?
    Please try again and check.
This is basically a compilation error , where files are not converted into proper format correctly.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

When my iBook got hot like that, I would take a break and let it cool down.
You can buy laptop desks that have USB powered fans on them, such as the Targus Chill Mat.

  • Line no longer allows a thumb-nail gallery view and will not save names of drawings. No one is available on Adobe chat is able to address these issues.

Is anyone having problems with line and iOS 8? I can't save or name my files or see them in gallery view.

    Hi Tmhenton,
I'm running iOS 8.0.2 and it is working okay for me. I'm able to view all the projects and their drawings and when not in an individual drawing and can use pinch or expand gestures to zoom in or out for the project/drawings thumbnail view.
I can rename projects doing the following (click to view larger)
You might try these if you're having difficulties
Completely power off and back on your iPad. long hold the power button
Backup any projects/drawing you want to save and reinstall the app
    Hope that helps,
    - Dave
